"Been to numerous countries and found this hotel the best in every aspect. Cleanliness, food, friendliness of all staff made our two weeks in July/August a real pleasure. For someone to complain choice of breakfast 'poor' - what are they looking for? Do they just like to moan for the sake of it. Other people complain about it being too quiet with nothing much to do, if they'd read up on it they'd have been aware that it is a quiet place, that's why we choose to go there. If you want night life then go to Magalluf! We came home completely refreshed and that's why we went there, we have now booked for our fourth visit, we just wish we had discovered this hotel before and not wasted our money on inferior places."

Fabulous hotel , fabulous holiday, fabulous Adam!
"Stayed here for two weeks July 2014 , this is beautiful hotel in a gorgeous location, our room was beautifully clean. Large bathroom, spacious shower, and large balcony with fabulous view of the beautiful, bay.hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Food has to be the best we have had in any hotel. The icing on the cake was finding the entertainment team included the wonderful Adam Flatman! This guy has made several Thomson gold holidays super special, for us. Just his appearance poolside is enough to produce the widest smiles from the majority of guests, and the aqua aerobics" Adam style" are guaranteed to not only exercise your body but give you chuckle muscles a real workout too! He truly is the Gold in the Thomson team! Will definitely be returning to this hotel, would strongly recommend to friends families and foes!"

Beware all that glistens is not gold
"We are not usually moaners or groaners. But!!! From some of these reviews people have not been in the same hotel as us. Airport transfer was not as advertised but in total took two and three quarter hours. Our room 511 had a good view but we could not use the balcony for the smell of sewage soaked seaweed. Numerous guests were changing rooms for a number of reasons so why have they not let others know of their problems they were willing to be critical when around the pool . Our room was so small you could not walk round it without catching the furniture. The toilet leaked, the shower fell apart the floors were swept but never mopped even after the leak. The bathroom door used to swing open leaving such a small gap that you could not get passed, when it swung the other way it banged into you whilst on the toilet. This is a lovely bay with sand but you have to rent a shade or bed on the beach. They are beginning building a large private complex next door, this will incur noisy pile driving for a sustained period. There are a lot of "streetwise" guests who have been before and endeavor to get the rooms they know, our room was in the old part, the rooms in the new feel as if they do not belong to the same hotel (although they cost the same). To summarize this is a hotel in a lovely location pity the hotel isn't up to the same standard. Good luck to the reps they were as helpful as possible but they are going to get some very disgruntled guests"

Some very inferior and noisy rooms
"I have previously written a review on Trip adviser, but I am not allowed to write another one unless I return to this hotel. I certainly do not intend to return. My TripAdvisor review was dated 8 August 2013. TIPS WHEN BOOKING. Do not book any of the rooms at the front of this hotel and especially rooms 101, 201, 301 and above if any. After speaking to other guests when staying at this hotel, their advice was do not ask for a double room, always ask for a twin room with a sea view as these rooms are very little more in cost, much larger with better facilities and quieter. ANOTHER TIP Give the management a ring approximately one month before arrival and they will try to allocate a room to your liking. This information comes from people who have stayed previously at this hotel and returned on this basis. If you do not wish to join the extremely bad way of booking at this hotel and the risk of getting an inferior room - DO NOT BOOK. Thomson are very unsympathetic when complaining about the room we were allocated which was 201 and offered no compensation whatsoever due to the terrible facilities and noise we had to endure during our two week stay. Simply The Best!!
"I stayed at to the Grupotel Playa for 2 weeks in June and have already booked to go back again next June. It was the quickest and friendliest check-in i've ever had. The hotel is spotlessly clean with fabulous views and even though I only had a side sea view room, which usually means you need a pair of binoculars to see the sea, I had a fantastic sea view. The restaurant was large and I never had any difficulty finding a table and the food was brilliant. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and Jose, the manager, was always around making sure that everything ran smoothly. It has a nice pool from which there are just a few steps down to the lovely sandy beach. The Thomson evening entertainment could be better. Ancora, an Il Divo tribute band, and the Beatles tribute band were both excellent and there was one new show by the Thomson Entertainment team but the other shows they did were the same ones they've been doing for years and should be updated. This is a beautiful resort with a turquoise sea and ideal if you want a nice relaxing holiday but, as others have said, there are only a few shops and bars (none with entertainment). However, if you want more action you can catch a bus into Paguera for only 1.50 Euros. I was more than happy to go on one of the many walks around between coming off the beach and having dinner. A word of warning if you are thinking of booking this hotel. When I booked for next year Thomsonâs wanted to charge me £87 to keep my room until 6pm as I have a late flight. I asked at reception at the hotel this year and they let me keep my room until 7.30pm for 20 Euros!!! Thomsonâs have just got too greedy. This is not only the best Gold hotel i've stopped at, it s the best hotel i've ever stopped at and in my honest opinion deserves to be 5 Star. "

nothing to do
"arrived at camp de mar asked for low ground was put on top floor, not nice. staff was good was moved within 2 hrs, if you want some where to go at night u either have to take a taxi or bus to next town, as there is nothing much around cam de mar its self, as for entertainment well it was very poor for a gold, the staff and reps in the hotel was very lovely very pleasent , would not go again but if any one goes avis bar at the villa real across the road is good he provides english music and makes you feel welcome and alot cheaper on drinks then the hotel. take own teabags coffee etc, "

Check on your room
"In our opinion this is not a four star hotel,it is a little dated. The Restaurant could do with being larger to avoid crowding at peak times, but all the staff both in the restaurant and bar were always helpful Depending where your room is depends on your view. We were at the side,on the 2nd floor with a very good view over the cove. Our room appeared to be part of the original hotel band importantly did not have double glazing which is very unfortunate because it meant that we had little rest throughout our stay. The adjacent hotel played music late into the night, and buses were dropping off and picking up at that hotel at various times during the early hours. The noise became intolerable and meant we awoken at about 5am on several occasions with the chattering of departing guests. The diesel engines and bleeping of buses reversing could not be avoided. It was really very bad. We did not find the Thompson Team leader very sympathetic, and was defensive when we complained. The Manager confirmed that he would report matter to the owners but I am surprised if others had not complained previously. The other interesting event is at 8.30am every morning when the doors to the poolside are opened there is a race to the sun loungers and shades, some people waiting an hour. It was like the start of the Grand National. It is a sight not to be missed. Overall for the room we had, the lack of rest we felt that the holiday was over priced. "

Go, it's great.
"I have just read the reviews below about the Playa Camp de Mar and wonder if some of you have actually stayed at the same hotel as us. I am surprised there were criticisms. We have been to this hotel 7 times now and cannot find that many faults. We always recommend it to friends and strangers and some of the other guests have been returning for decades - sometimes twice a year. That must speak volumes. Okay, the weather can let you down, but the Playa have very helpful staff and we find the food good, plentiful and tasty. One review mentions blancmange and tapioca as puddings. I have never seen these on the menu. Fruit, gateaux, ice cream and specials. Nothing is stewed and it's certainly not 'chips with everything' as suggested. There is always a vegetarian dish and they now cater for vegans too. Being a child free holiday you can relax in comfort by the pool. There is poolside entertainment at set times: aerobics, quiz and so on and these can get a little loud - but, hey, you're on holiday - expect a little noise and fun. Believe me, it is far worse at the hotel next door with hordes of under-8's charging around at full tilt. The Playa had to install a gate to keep out other hotel guests who were coming in to enjoy the quiet. The evening show is outside and guests do tend hang about till late enjoying the warm night air and a few, perhaps slightly too many, drinks. This is a holiday hotel, not a monastery. The majority of rooms are well appointed and are swept and cleaned everyday, overlook the pool and have a fantastic view of the bay. However, there are rooms to the side and back of the hotel that should be regarded as cupboards. Prospective guests should be made aware of these rooms when booking but Thomson - not the hotel - allocate the rooms and sets the prices. We were caught out October last year when we booked online for a sea view room only to be allocated one overlooking the tennis courts and car park at the side. This was done by Thomson and the hotel manager easily organised an alternative as it was late in the season and the hotel was only 70% full. Don't expect the reps to sort out any problems. The main man has several hotels and resorts to look after and is not on site all day everyday. The other reps are really the entertainment staff. Think 'Hi-de-hi' and you will get the picture. While on the subject of reps, they will try to flog you the Thomson excursions. Remember, they get commission on this. The hotel also have excursions, so compare the two. I have been on the Caves of Drach and Inca Market with Thomson. Both were good but rush, rush, rush. Yet the hotel-arranged trip to Pollensa, Cap Formentor and Alcudia was very relaxed and cheap. If you want to do Inca Market on a Thursday, then go under your own steam - early bus to Palma and then train to Inca. You then get 3 hours at this fantastic market instead of 1 Thomson one. Likewise Andratx market on Wednesday - it's only 10 minutes up the road from the resort. Public transport in Mallorca is reliable and cheap. We go to Camp de Mar to enjoy the scenery, the company, the atmosphere. To relax, to let someone else do the cooking and make the beds. To have a good time, to go shopping in Palma at C&A, to stroll along the promenade in Paguera, to haggle in the market, to have a laugh. What do YOU want to do? "

If its a beach and great pool you are lo...
"If its a beach and great pool you are looking for then look no further. Our party of 4 consisted of 2 over 50's and 2 over 70's and for us it was perfect. If you are a younger couple then I would say you would have to travel to the next town for nightlife. Taxi's were very reasonable. The hotel provided evening entertainment every night and I must add that the Friday night show done by the Thompson Gold reps was a winner. The food was buffet style and they provided an excellent choice at every meal. The rooms we booked had twin beds, with balcony and sea view. We were advised to ask for this and I'm glad we did - it was a perfect view and you could also sit on your balcony and watch the evening show. For those that enjoy their sleep, the show ended at 11pm. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable as well. There was quite a lot you could do, as well as beach and pool and all could be booked from the hotel. We went on the 'Secrets of Mallorca tour', which was enjoyable, in an 8 seater mini bus which enabled the driver to go down little village roads, away from the tourist areas. A 'must see' if you can is the 'Son Amar dinner show', it was fantastic. We were slightly let down by the 'Aquarium cat' as the 'submarine part' was standing only and our elderly companions couldn't manage that. They failed to mention that in their brochure. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and always at your service. I would definately recommend this hotel."
