blue bay hotel & santa ana hotel
"my fiance and I went for a short break at the end of march. originally booked for the blue bay hotel in cala mayor but on arrival we were moved to santa ana hotel also in cala mayor, with no apology! We were really annoyed at the way we were treated at the blue bay so i would never go back because the staff were so rude. it also looked shabbier than it had looked on photos and it is at the top of a steep hill which would be ok in high season as they have a bus that takes you up and down, but not in winter so would cost more in taxis. we were worried because we didnt know what our new accommodation was going to be like but once we arrived we did relax as it was sufficent for our short break of 4 nights.we felt it was better because we got given half board instead of the bed and breakfast we had originally booked, for no extra cost, the hotel was directly on the beach and there was no hill to climb! food was adequate but dont expect luxury, always something, but then we will try most foods. breakfast was the usual cold meats, cheese, breads, cereal, fruit etc. dinner was buffet style with various meat dishes, rice, chips, fish, salads etc and ice creams. if staying longer then it would get repetitive. we ate here for 3 nights out of 4. rooms ok, but no fridge.balcony door wouldnt lock but we used safety deposit box for valuables so we were not too bothered and didnt want to waste our hols waiting for reception. although this is obviously important to mention. cala major has very little, but we went to magalluf most days (bus hourly and half hourly 104 and 106, on main road, takes 30mins) and palma one day (15mins on bus) this suited us but if you want nightlife, this isnt your place. hotel entertainment is zilch! not many english but the ones we met were lovely, hi pat & george! we had a great break and perfect for cheap hotel to visit palma without city prices."

Good hotel, limited location
"Just returned from a week's stay at this hotel. Hotel adequate, seaview from rooms was fantastic. As mentioned in earlier reviews we were the only Brits in the hotel which can become annoying after a while. The food was ok but very repetitive, I don't think I could have handled a fortnight of the buffet! The hotel is literally on the beach with its own access gate, but if you are not beach people the area could be rather restricting. There was no esplanade to walk along on an evening and the few shops and bars in the immediate area were on a very busy road. This hotel would be fine for a short break but the area does not have enough going for it for a longer stay."

"Our overall holiday experience was excellent! We would definitely go back and visit Kefalonia. The resort that we were staying, Lassi was very picturesque with beautiful beaches and scenery. The shops, bars and restaurants were excellent and after finding our favourite, 'Zorba's' we chose to eat there regularly. Our apartments were very clean and the staff were friendly. The pool area was also very clean with toilets and showers close at hand. The travel company were great on our trip. The only downfall of our trip was the both our outward and incoming flights were delayed by a couple of hours. But these things happen!! I would definitely recommend anyone to visit Kefalonia. "

Pleasant Hotel - Shame about the noise
"We have just come back from a weeks stay at the Santa Ana Hotel in Cala Mayor, Mallorca. We wasn't expecting the height of luxury from this hotel as we only paid £400 for 2 people on a B & B basis so we was pleasantly suprised by the standard of the hotel. It was clean and well run. The breakfast was more than adequate. The rooms were a little basic but had everything in them that you needed (although no air conditioning to my dismay!) When we arrived we were thrilled at the position of the hotel room. It was overlooking the beach in a small bay with views of the sea, sun and sand - perfect we thought until we realised that it is also the place for the Spanish teenagers to party every night (all night!!) until about 6am. Then at 8am the sand plough machine started on the beach - this was particularly noisy. So in the summer months, with no air conditioining, when you need to open the room windows at night, don't expect any sleep! The town of Cala Mayor left a lot to be desired and we were glad that we hired a car. The hotel entertainment is particularly dodgy - this also lasts until around midnight and is also very loud. There are plenty of lovely places in Mallorca to stay and although we had a nice time, we would not return to this hotel."

Great Hotel - Shame about the food
"We have just returned from a last minute break to Majorca staying at the Santa Ana Hotel in Cala Mayor. The hotel itself was excellent. Clean, tidy & recently refurbished. The staff were friendly & the room was great with a beautiful view of the beach. The swimming pool was clean & tidy. So much so, the pool cleaner insisted that we moved from our seats watching the sunset so that he could finish the job!! Cala Mayor itself was starting to close down for the winter but there were enough bars & restaurants to please us & it was only â¬1.1 to Palma by bus. The beach itself is pleasant with numerous umbrellas & is cleaned every day. We stayed on "half board basis". Breakfast was quite adequate with fruit cereal, cold meats, cheeses etc. Dinner was another matter!! Poor quality main dishes with over cooked vegetables. The wine was reasonable though, so after a couple of glasses it didn't seem too bad & when you consider that for the price we paid, you wouldn't get a decent "B&B" in the UK, it was good value. I enjoyed the entertainment which was laid on in the bar each night. Multilingual Bingo is a challenge to behold!! What I really enjoyed was looking down on the guests in the 5* Nixie Palace Hotel next door whilst enjoying a "sundowner" on my balcony. Would I recommend it - Yes, but "Bed & Breakfast" only!!!"

mixed feeling at the santa ana
"The Santa Ana was a very nice hotel, apart from the fact that my husband and myself were the only english speaking people there!.talk about a language problem! We felt very intimidated, the majority of the people were german, french, spanish, we didnt have anyone to talk to, apart from ourselves! The tour operator didnt tell us about this befor we went, which i think they should have."

"The Santa Ana is a very nice hotel, very clean, as long as you are German, French Spanish dutch, anything as long as you are not British, or welsh in our respect, you will get along just fine. We didnât have anyone to talk to the whole time we were there. The Thomson rep didnât even meet us, we were on our own the whole time. Talk about being outcasts, but otherwise the place was very nice and clean and quiet"
