Good Hotel, very pleasantly surprised
"we booked this literally the day before we travelled and for what we paid and the star of the hotel I was dubious. Luckily my husband and 8 year old daughter were very pleased. Basic but very clean and pleasant rooms with individual air conditioning included in the price. we boarded on a B&B basis which ran from 8am to 10am on a self service basis, although the staff cleaned your dishes away. cooked breakfast, pastries, muffins, fresh fruit, tinned fruit, cereal plentiful every day with small changes each day so you didn't get bored. pool medium in size with kids pool, always clean and lovely. no need to 'book' sunbeds with towels and the whole atmosphere was family orientated, fairly quiet and safe. There is a spar across the road with a bus stop and train stop 2 minutes away. the walk to the fabulous marina with it's restaurants only 10 mins walk and the centre 2 mins walk away. fabuluous, would recommend to anyone. Best Holiday Ever!
"We have been holidaying in Majorca annually for the last 18 years and we can honestly say that our latest holiday in Cala D'or was the best. The D'or Hotel was everything we could ask for. Clean accommodation, quiet surroundings, pleasant staff, excellent breakfast, close to all amenities.
Will definately be back there next year and can't wait to book again.
Thank you to all at the D'or Hotel.
Graham & Tricia."

Happiest Holiday at Hotel D'or
"We have just returned from pretty Cala D'or and its equally stunning surrounding coves. After a very stressful year we are now well rested, largely due to our happy stay at lovely Hotel D'or. Our fist floor room in this small two storey property was spacious with a pleasant bathroom and large furnished terrace. We enjoyed both mountain views as far as San Salvador, and a side view over the pretty pool area. Breakfast was plentiful, good quality, lots of choice and all presided over by by very pleasant staff. Those same staff manned the bar and sometimes reception. Our room was serviced daily with lots of fresh linen and nothing was too much trouble for the cleaning ladies. Both Cala D'or and its marina area are just lovely with many restuarants and bars-- we ate well at lunch for 4 euros and sumptuously at dinner for 40 euros-with all prices in between. A special mention for the gorgeous "Barlovento"- Mallorqin fine dining an absolute must !! We are about to join the legion of "returners " we met at Hotel D'or. Sue and John, Merseyside"

Really nice hotel. Wasn't expecting much...
"Really nice hotel. Wasn't expecting much for what we paid but we were very pleasantly surprised.
Nice rooms with individually controlled air conditioning!! Pool area was small but you didn't need to reserve a sunbed at all. Food from the snack bar was nice and reasonably priced, as were the drinks with a daily happy hour buy one get one free.
Restuarants and town centre are literally just round the corner and the supermarket is across the street.
We are going there again in August 2008!"

sleepless in cala D'or
"We stayed at the hotel D'or as a last minute break, we read all the reviews after we booked maybe we should have read before . We were lucky the nightclub opposite was only open on the Sunday that we arrived and the noise did go on until 4am then closed for the winter. However the noise from the constant traffic outside our room was 24/7 'unbelievable'. We didn't sleep properly the whole week. We live in the country and had asked specifically for a quite resort. I guess what is quiet to one is noisy to another. The staff were very friendly, helpful and there was plenty of a limited selection to eat at breakfast. Our room although clean and big enough, was a bit damp the bathroom was a bit dated and smelled a bit. There is a handy Spar shop opposite for provisions for picnics as the beaches were very crowded we sought out the other beaches along the coast. There are plenty of bars and restaraunts near by the hotel not to expensive but many have a theme, or TVs and all the proprietors try to grab you to eat at their place which is a little unnerving. Majorca has a lot to offer if you have a car get out there and explore. Some of the people staying at the D'or stay every year and love it and others said much the same as us, about a 50/50 split really. 2sleepypeeps."

Friendly Hotel D'or
"This hotel cannot be faulted. For a 2 star hotel the D'or has everything you require. The room was rather small, but air conditioned & kept exceptionally clean by the friendly cleaners.
Hotel pool was lovely and clean and not overcrowded, plenty of sunbeds with comfy matresses. All hotel staff were helpful whatever you asked of them, We would highly recommend the D'or for adults, but unfortunately there is not much in the vicinity for children. It's also positioned in a great location. Plently of lovely places to eat and a very cosmopolitan area.
The only niggle with some people was the noise from the square at the back. We had no problems but had a room around the pool area. We booked through Travel Republic, Real Good value for money and no problems."

"Its always a bit daunting on your transfer from the airport as to what your hotel will be like. Especially if it is a small hotel with 1-2 star ratings. But we were extremely pleased with the Hotel D'Or.
Yes the hotel is small - but it has all the neccessary amenities of a larger one. Well stocked bar. Nice friendly staff. Plenty of games (pool, darts, board games etc.) FREE internet access ALL DAY.
The pool is small but very deep and never got crowded. Matresses on your sun beds. Absolutely excellent breakfasts.
The location of the hotel is brilliant. A huge SPAR shop is directly opposite the complex with all the shops and restaurants about 5 or so minutes walk away. You are spoilt for choice with the restaurants in Cala D'Or. We tried the Don Leone (owned by the same people as the hotel) Their pizzas are out of this world.
Try the paella at the DiFeReNt bar/restaurant directly opposite the Don Leone.
The beaches are great - our favourite was the Cala D'or as the Cala Grande was much more busy.
Overall we loved the resort and especially the hotel. Yes there was music coming from the Square bar til very late - but if you had a room like us (which we requested when we booked) - on the opposite side by the pool - you won' be disappointed.

"My sister and I (both early 30's) have just returned from 10 days at this hotel and are shocked that noone else in any reviews have mentioned the noise! The hotel is right next door to the Sound Republique (a bar/disco) which has live singing outside until midnight and then you can hear a further rooftop nightclub until 4am. We certainly are not party poopers, nor are we fussy but we didn't get a decent nights sleep the whole time we were there. The rooms are tiny and we didn't have hot water the whole time we were there. Most of the rooms face onto the courtyard where the pool is so there is constant noise. There is also the traditional "bagging of the sunbeds" with your towel which I thought went out a decade ago and did cause problems with people reserving the limited number of sunbeds but not turning up to use them until early afternoon.
On the plus side I have to say that the staff were very helpful, the Spar across the road is very handy and the breakfast was really quite good for a 2* hotel.
Overall, I would say if you have young kids or you are a teenager then this hotel and resort is ideal, if you value your eardrums, want some sleep or would like to find a beach close by that doesn't have every square inch covered then try somewhere else."

A most enjoyable stay
"The Hotel D'Or consists of a number of two storey buildings situated just a few minutes from the town centre and right opposite a Spar supermarket. There is a stop for buses and the small train just a few yards away.
Our room was clean and well-presented, with a large balcony, air conditioning and a great shower. A room safe was available for a small charge. Maid service was daily (except Saturdays) which included a daily change of towels.
There was a smallish swimming pool with an area separated for children and there were plenty of free sunbeds with mattresses around
the pool. The snack bar (open to 1am) offered a small range of hot/
cold snacks and was reasonably priced. Reception was manned 24 hours a day and staff were very helpful from our experience. Breakfast included ingredients for an English breakfast as well as pastries, fruit and bread/toast plus tea/coffee/juice.
We thought the Hotel D'Or was very good value for money and would have no hesitation in staying there again"

Great Central Location Hotel
"Hotel Dâor Cala Dâor
- - - Location & Surrounding Area - - -
The location of the hotel cannot be better suited. The main town centre contains, many restaurants, cafes, bars, club and small local bric-a-brac shops and is only a 5-minute walk away from the hotel maximum. The area is family orientated, even though there is a nightclub, located at the square on the outer parts of the town, families are welcome and through our stay we saw no trouble. Opposite the hotel, there is Spa, which is very friendly, and the prices are reasonable. A taxi is also located close to hotel if you want to travel further a field.
- - - The Accommodation & Room- - -
The hotel is small but friendly with mixed groups of people varying from families, couples, elderly and young groups (which in our stay caused no trouble) the pool is small which is the hotel only fault, but the surrounding area is spacious with many to sun lounges bathe. The bar was also very clean and offers, Free Internet connection, darts and a well kept pool table. The members of staff are friendly and helpful and will help with any queries you have at any time of day, as the reception is manned 24 hours.
The room is small but has everything you need, air conditioning and a safety deposit box being a huge benefit to store all passports and money. The upper rooms have a balcony with table and chairs while the ground floors offers sun loungers.
The maid service is everyday apart from a Saturday where is change of towels daily and beds are always made and also changed regularly.
The restaurant is very clean with a pleasant atmosphere, with a large variety of food (Breakfast Only) varying from fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, toasts, egg, bacon, a mushrooms beans plus hot and cold beverage.
The hotel as a whole is excellent and was a very pleasurable place to stay and would definitely recommend it.
We Would like to recommend these places to eat.
Cafe Plaza - Excellent value for money
Don Leone - Excellent range of pizza plus 10% discount if you stay in the Dor Hotel
Aquamarina - Food was exceptional for the quality and price
Tony's Bar (Cala Egos) - Excellent family run restaurant"

Not bad, not great
"This hotel was in a good position, and very small and friendly. The rooms are a bit basic but you don't spend much time in there anyway. However, there have been some changes since the last reviewer wrote their piece! We did not get a washbasin with marble surround - ours was just bog-standard fixed to the wall and our toiletries had to go on the floor! Breakfast was not
taken by the pool or bar, but downstairs in a cellar-like breakfast
room with no windows. A bit depressing.Coffee was not freshly-made and you had to get your own from a machine. The hot buffet was fine and there was a good array of cereals, cakes, cold meat etc but no bread rolls and toast was do-it-yourself. Staff were friendly and helpful but there was no functioning tv lounge ("our 'SKY' card has expired") On no less than two occasions the bar ran out of beer! \How, we couldnt understand, as the hotel was less than half full ! However, the d'Or is in a brilliant position for accessing the local hostelries, but very noisy at night from 'The Square'. We did ask for a quiet room in advance, but don't think they have any ! One bonus was free internet access for all for a computer in the bar, so I was able to keep in touch with my young son at home by email. I would stay there again, but be prepared for a very low-key experience."
