"Apartment was spotless and cleaned every other day, bins and towels changed daily, staff were friendly and helpful with any enquiry. Air conditioning kept bedrooms lovely and cool at night. We had a balcony and were 30 second walk from the pool and sunbathing area whwich was kept clean and tidy. The beach was a couple of minutes walk away with bars, restaurants and supermarkets close by. There was a choice of entertainment aimed at families NOT 18-30's!
Would certainly recommend the apartments and resort, our friends stayed in the hotel which they said was excellent service to.
Cala D'or felt safe and relatively peaceful."

After having panicked for about 2 months...
"After having panicked for about 2 months before leaving to go to Cala D'Or after all the negative remarks about the Cala Gran Apartments, we were really pleasantly surprised! We were in a 2 bed apartment with a 2.5 year old. The apartments are not luxurious by any standards but they are clean and roomy and everything that you need is there, should you wish it. The cleaners were in every day to take away bins and change towels if needbe and your linen was changed weekly. The pool area was good, no broken tiles that we could see and the baby pool was great for the kids. The only thing we would say is that there is not enough room for all the loungers and you really had to be up with the birds to get a decent spot, which was a bit of a pain! The beach is so close, you don't even have to leave the complex, its crowded but its a nice. Loads and loads of restaurants, you could pick a different one every night if you wished, however they do tend to all serve the same kind of food, some just better than others. We did find a great restaurant our 2nd last night called Grillworld and the food was amazing!!! The Marina is a short walk away and lots of choice there too.
Dont let any negative comments put you off, as the Cala Gran is a decent place to stay and very very central for everything, yes we all have different standards and needs when we go on holiday, but everyone we talked to on the 2 weeks were there, vouched it was a pretty OK place!

"we stayed in a studio at the cala gran appartments and were a bit worried about going after reading some of the reviews below. but we both thought they were great! centrally located. the beach (3 min walk), shops, bars & restaurants (3 min walk).
the studio was clean & had everything we needed for a week. balcony, fridge, hob, shower & bath, even a hairdryer & bidet in the bathroom. the bins were emptied every day, toilet rolls supplied when low. they seemed to be cleaned every other day, towels changed & beds made. there was a couple of pools that you could use. we stayed around the largest. it did get fairly busy though with towels placed on sunbeds every morning but we managed to find one. it was clean & well maintained & even had a disability seat which lowered into the water if needed by anyone.
the harbour was about 10-15 min walk away.
don leone (italian restaurant) was lovely pasta, pizza & wine. bodega tapas restaurant a street away from the main bars & restaurants was fantastic tapas for anyone that wants to try a taste of spain. the best meal we had was a chinese (next door to the pirate restaurant) try the chicken in garlic! but there are plenty of other bars, restaurants & cafes to choose from.
it is fairly hilly though in some parts of cala dor, for people with walking difficuties. the beach is a cove which does get busy but very pretty. we would definately go back to cala d or & cala gran app, we are 35 & 30 years old, a couple & family resort we would definately recommend."

"Cala Gran appartments were fantastic, yes they were basic but they were clean, very roomy and quite comfortable.
i would recommend staying here to anyone. i had been to Cala dor twice before and can honestly say that this appartment was the best i had stayed in!
i will say though that if it rains there isnt a lot to do in the evenings as places that do entertainment are outdoors. we had 4 days of rain whilst we were away
Cala dor is a fantastic place for all ages (me and my partner are both 22) to relax "

"Cala Gran should have a health warning attached!
It is the worst holiday park I have ever has the misfortune of visiting.
1) The caravan/furnishings/appliances are atrocious - broken, dirty etc
2) The so called Holiday Sales Manager or General Manager for that matter couldn't organise a p*ss up in a brewery. They are clearly not trained in "professionalism" or "complaint handling" - picked off the street I guess?!
3) The staff are badly trained and are for want of a better word are dossers.
4) There is nothing for the children to do - unless it involves spending money on arcade games.
5) There is nothing for adults to do - other than get drunk - spending a bit more money
6) The swimming pool is tiny and the changing rooms manky
7) The roof leaks in the bar - children dance around the buckets and wet floor signs.
8) The Launderette has an Asbestos roof - is that still legal?
9) Take wellies if you go - if it rains you're in trouble!
10) They have rats - and rats that aren't afraid of making themselves known!
I really am suprised that Health and Safety have not shut this place down.
If you plan on going please consider other parks first.
ps. Pontins in Blackpool is as bad."

"Dont worry about the hotel we had the time of our lives, the beach is accross the road and a short walk up hill takes you to the town centre. The only part of the complex I found disapointing was the self catering complex which is in a seperate block from the half board & all inclusive. I am sure everything will be ok. The resturant has a kids menu but you have to ask for it. The pool just outside the resturant is the best one for kids a lot smaller. We found the staff very friendly espically Maria in the resturant."

Very old fashioned and small but clean
"Have just returned from a week at the Costa Del Sur hotel and although we had a fantastic holiday, there are a few comments I would like to make about this hotel.
We arrived at six o'clock in the morning and were put in the tiniest hotel room I'd ever seen. We are a family of 2 adults, 1 child and 1 baby. There was a double bed, a single bed and a cot crammed into a room with 1 wardrobe and no floor space at all. We had nowhere to stand cases or the pushchair. We were too tired to complain at the time, however when i did the next day, we were moved to a much larger room where the kid's bedroom was bigger than our original room!
The food got better as the week went on but the restaurant was too small for the amount of people that they crammed into it and like the rest of the hotel, it was very dated. There was a kids menu but we only found out about it because another family told us half way through our holiday.
The pool nearest to our hotel block was very small but I actually found that an advantage as my 5 year old daughter could play by herself but I could always see her. There was also a kid's club which was quite good.
On the last day we had to vacate our room at midday but weren't been picked up until midnight. We asked if we could pay to keep our room on but were told 'no way'. We were told that we could use a courtesy room to shower and get ready and that luggage could be left in a separate room ( which wasn't locked and was easily accessible). When we came to use the courtesy room, we had to wait for an hour and a half as there was a queue and the 'room' was actually a shower and sink with a small bench in there. We were disappointed as it was very difficult to get us all ready in there as it was like a sauna.
The location of this hotel was fantastic and we will definately return to Cala D'or but I don't think we'd return to this hotel."

"Very friendly staff, Food was fantastic we stayed all inclusive for a week, i have read bad reviews on the food in this hotel so we were very surprised on how good it was.
The hotel is in a great location, just across the road from cala gran beach. The only downfall i think this hotel has is that the rooms are quite small and very tired looking, there was myself, husband and 13 year old son sharing one room with 3 single beds all next to one another, not good really when i had to pay adult price for my son!
This hotel is part of a complex, the part we were in catered more for are german friends, the television in the room was even in german!"

Friendly and clean
"We stayed at the Cala Gran Apartaments, but were half board, so I can comment more on the hotel too.
We were a family of myself 32, my mum and my daughter aged 5. In terms of location it was fabulous, right on the beach and only 100 metres from Cala d'or main streets of shops, restaurants and bars. It appeared the hotel was 4 'knitted' together, 2 hotels and 2 apartment blocks, hence the 4 pools, none of the pools were particularly large, but they were nice. My only complaint with the pools would be that in 7 days we managed to get a sunbed once, mainly because there arent enough (although there isnt room for many more!) and the ones that are there are reserved at the crack of dawn by the germans, this is ok, but we were in apartments, diagonally as far from the main pool as we could be, so the chances of my mother or I getting there and going back to bed (as some Germans seemingly did) was impossible as we would be fully awake after our 10 minute walk!!
The food was ok, for kids it was fine too, there was a kids menu, but you had to request it and it wasnt that readily advertised, we didnt know about it for 3 days until some people we met told us about it!! For the amount of people they have to cater for and the nationalities it was good, i would give the adult food 6/10 and the kids 9/10. Be careful if you are half board, they pounce on you to order drinks with the evening meal, but dont tell you they are not included!
My daughter loved the pool, and the mini disco. The entertainment lady (yes one!!) was very nice to the children and did a great job on her own. The balance was good, not OTT with activities, but they were available if you wanted to take part.
We met some great people, you must try the Fish and Chip shop on the road behind the hotel (Something Fishy) Xav and Liz and their little boy were so friendly and the food is fab!!
All in all we had good weather, a fab location and a nice hotel, it was all good.
Some people moaned all the time about the food, but it isnt the Ritz and its a reasonably priced hotel!!
My Tip - Pay for half board and upgrade to all inclusive locally, 15 euros for adults and 7.50 for kids per day, you cant go wrong."

Not a great place for peace and quiet
"We have just arrived home from Cala d'or. We booked to stay at the Cala Gran but when we arrived, we found we were staying in the Costa del sur - an ajoining hotel. This was obviously were all the young singles were staying and we got very little sleep the first 5 days. Everyone in the hotel the first week seemed to be German and we had a few problems with some of them. We got up early every morning to put out our towel on the sunbed (as did everyone else), but on a couple of occassions on return from breakfast, we found that our towels had been removed and a German couple were using our beds!!
The smell from the sewage system was horrendous throughout our stay and semed to be worse in the morning and evening.
On a more positive note, the hotel was clean and our room was cleaned daily. The food was ok but the majority of evenings, fish was on the menu for starter and main course. As a hater of sea food, we had to eat out a couple of nights. For good british food we would definitely recommend 'The Dumpling' in town. Also, the 'Shangrila' Chinese is fabulous and the service is second to none!! For a central location, the Cala Gran is perfect. Its a 1 min walk to the beach and right at the town.
If we were to go back, we would definitely opt to go All Inclusive as it is a very expensive resort. A pint of local beer is £2.50!
Our second week was fantastic as we had no neighbours and a lot of british people arrived at our hotel. We made quite a few friends and in th end didn't want to come home!"

Just returned from an excellent holiday...
"Just returned from an excellent holiday in Cala D'Or. We were recommended by friends who had been to these apartments 3 times, and were not disappointed! As per other reviews, a porter took our luggage to our room which was clean & tidy, towels & bins emptied every day with cleaning several times per week.
The hotel itself is well maintained & kept extremely clean & tidy. Our kids are 2 & 5 so we requested low floor, were given appt #71 with large ground floor balcony - perfect for us. Entertainment in hotel was OK, suited us with the mini Disco & the kids played afterwards, and there are other places to visit for larger shows etc(Tropical Garden). Cala D'Or itself is beautiful, lots of great restaurants to choose from for evening meals. We'd recommend Casablanca, Regina, Capriccio to name but a few. For drinks, check out Cheeki Tikki cocktail bar - this is excellent & a must!
There's a lovely Marina a few mins stroll from Cala D'Or centre. All in all an excellent holiday, with the apartments being a great base. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Cala Gran apartments & Cala D'Or.
