Lovely hotel but watch out for "sea views"
"Stayed here April 2014 for a week.Booked a sea view room so disappointed that it was a side sea view with very small balcony. However hotel was right on beach and was spotless, food wonderful and all in all we had a great time here. Would recommend it especially for adults."

A lovely surprise
"Like the previous reviewer, we got a great last-minute deal for this hotel from the Thomson website - the previous Tripadvisor reviews having given us the courage to book a 'package' hotel, which is not usually our bag. The room was a good size, with decent fittings and a smart bathroom - housekeeping was efficient and unobtrusive. Nice touches like robes and slippers. fruit basket etc lifted the service. Reception staff were efficient and pleasant.
We spent a lovely week in this calm, cool oasis and thoroughly enjoyed it. The proximity to the protected swimming lagoons was a big plus - we never went near the small(ish) swimming pool, which seemed to suffer a little from the 'towels on the sunbeds' syndrome we'd heard about but never seen!
The restaurant staff were exceptionally pleasant, well trained and well led -we had the evening buffet meal a couple of times (great value at 12 Euros) and it was pretty good, helped by the lovely views over the bay.
Cala Bona itself has some nice restaurants around the harbour area - Thalassa Cafe for lunch was good and the Milano Italian restaurant did scrummy carpaccio! - but our favourite place to eat was a very long walk to the far end of Cala Millor to a little place called Ca Forner - fabulous home-cooking at excellent prices.
A really good experience all around."

Class of it's own.... by miles!
"Let's be clear about one thing. The Gran Sol is the best hotel in Cala Bona. Its also better than any hotel in Cala Millor the adjoining resort. Not just a bit better, but absolutely light years ahead. The other hotels look tired, cramped and frankly uninviting.
The Gran Sol hotel looks better, has better grounds, a fantastic location and everything is absolutely brand spanking new. The food is excellent and the staff were, without a single exception, polite, friendly and courteous.
I won't bother to list all of the reasons why you should stay here as they are already well documented on these pages. All I will say is if you are planning to visit the Cala Bona/Cala Millor area just book it. If you don't somebody else will and they, not you, will have the better holiday."

Don't hesitate - book now!!
"My sister and I (both early 20s) just returned from a week at the Gran Sol, a holiday that we booked through Thomson online. We got a brilliant last minute price and had the best holiday ever. The resort is ideal for anyone who wants to relax and have just a bit of understated evening entertainment or walks on the beach, without all the clubs, late night revellers and through the night partying.
The hotel is superb, far superior to the other Levante hotels on its doorstep which carry a similar star rating. The Gran Sol is so new and with all modern finishes - it feels totally luxurious. Lovely outside pool area with wooden decking overlooking the beach. The beach itself is beautiful - shallow waters that are warm and still, and practically deserted at about 7 in the evening so you can have a lovely swim in the evening with a beach pretty much to yourself.
The food in the hotel is plentiful and extremely varied - good value for money as it's 12 euros a head. I personally would book B&B rather than half board, as there are some excellent restaurants in the harbour which is about 5 minutes' walk from the hotel and these are well worth sampling.
Whilst the other Levante hotels are high-profile Thomson golds and therefore have reps and annoying poolside entertainment, the Gran Sol is relaxed and quiet, and we were only approached once by a Thomson rep who let us know he was at his desk if we needed any information - other than that we were left to bask in the sun and do our own thing.
As long as you're after a relaxing break and don't want a clubber's paradise, book this hotel - you won't regret it!"

great gran sol
"We had a lovely restful stay at the Gran Sol. The hotel was reopened in May after a complete refurbishment. The beds are comfortable, the rooms on the beach side are quiet if a little on the small side. Storage is hanging and shelves with only 1 small drawer. Hotel is right on the beach and has a nice pool area. Dinner is only 12 euros and so we did not expect much but it was very good. It is mainly buffet, but there are also eggs and bacon in the morning and a selection of fish and meat in the evening that are cooked to order. Dinner is only 12 euros and so we did not expect much but it was very good. Staff are mainly excellent but the bar is understaffed meaning that service to the pool and outside patio area is poor. At the moment small children are allowed, although they are not catered for in any way. There is room for children in the junior suites and supposedly a "cot space" in the ordinary rooms. Moving in a cot would require removing the chair and luggage rest. The majority of the clients were couples and a number of small children would have totally spoiled the lovely atmosphere."

Fantastic hotel right on the beach
"We had a great holiday in this recently rebuilt hotel . The facilities are superb both within and without the hotel . The bedrooms are spacious and include a "proper" refrigerator, not a small min bar. All the staff are very friendly and obliging. The food was good quality , good variety, and well presented. It was lovely to sit in the bar in the evening enjoying a quiet drink and hold a conversation without having to shout above loud music or the bingo caller! This hotel deserves a 5 start rating. We are already planning a visit again next year."

Gran Sol - highly recommended
"Having been recommended to cancel a Portugal break due to major work in the hotel, we had to choose a new location/hotel at very short notice. Our travel agent suggested the Gran Sol and we were extremely grateful. This is a newly refurbished hotel directly on the beach at Cala Bona, with superb views, and very quiet, but with immediate access to local shops, bars etc.
The reception area is very attractive and the standard of fittings and finish extends throughout all public areas and guest rooms. We booked a junior suite, which had the added advantage of a lounge area and double balcony, but a sneaky peek at a couple of the standard rooms showed that they were of a similar high standard, with stone bathroom tiles, flat screen TV's and the latest minimalist decor. We booked half board at a very reasonable supplement of £10 each per night, and were delighted with this choice. The classy restaurant was very well set up, with great sea views, and with excellent service from Miguel, Sissi and Tamara, and a superb selection of food, from traditional British, to Spanish, and including international theme nights. The buffet service meant that we could choose exactly the dishes, portions and combinations that we wanted. The small size of the hotel meant that this was nothing like the dreaded buffet experience in larger establishments - there were probably only some 25 tables, all beautifully set out with white linen cloths and elegant cutlery - even for breakfast.
Evenings were very quiet, but relaxed, with friendly and efficient bar service, and again, the great views. Cala Bona is a relatively quiet resort, but with a more lively harbour area, with a large number of boat trips available, and a wide range of bars/restaurants. Although we always used the hotel for dinner, we had an excellent light lunch in a number of places, including Thalassa, and Janet and John's.
Overall this was a superb holiday, largely due to the excellence of the Gran Sol hotel."

Great New Hotel
"Booked the Gran Sol on short notice.
Loved the hotel and the staff. The hotel had only been open 22 days when we arrived. The rooms were spacious, beds really comfortable and the views great. Bathrobes, slippers and fruit were a great addition to the room, aswell as the mini bar,
The hotel only has 58 rooms, which is great, it generates a really good family atmosphere amongst the guests and the staff.
The food surprised us! Allthough we'd only booked B&B we decided to eat in the restaurant for dinner 4 nights out of the 7 that we were there. The food was fantastic, fresh, steaks and fish cooked to order.
Breakfast was great also, I have never had my bacon cooked to order but that's what they offer at this breakfast buffet. Being in the hotel industry in the UK and the Caribbean for the past 18 years I have never seen it done before either..
Thank you to Maria and Liz on reception, Sissi and Miguel and the lovely breakfast lady (can't remeber her name).
We will be back."

Lovely new hotel
"Have just returned from a lovely holiday at the Gran Sol. This is a relatively small hotel with about 50 rooms. It had only been open about a week when we arrived, so everything was new. The hotel is situated right on the beach, with the main entrance at the back along the pedestrianised promenade. So there is no traffic noise. Our room had a beautiful view overlooking the beach and sea. It was tastefully decorated and was very light and airy. The restaurant overlooks the sea. The quality of the food was excellent, with a good choice of main courses, most of which were cooked in front of you. The hotel has two pools, the indoor one being adjacent to the roof -top sun terrace. The staff were always very courteous and helpful. The only downside is that we found Cala Bona to be a very British resort whereas we would have preferred a resort with a more Spanish feel. Overall an excellent hotel for couples looking for a quiet relaxing holiday."

Fantastic new small luxury star hotel
"If you are looking for a five star experience at a reasonable price, then this is one I would recommend. The hotel had only just opened, but my wife and I had a lovely time in this new hotel. The food is excellent, mainly catering for the British tastes, but of a high standard! The hotel has a roof top indoor swimming pool, and spa with excellent views of the bay of Cala Bona.
We enjoyed the fact the hotel is quite small, so there was a very personal feel to the place, and this is one I would highly recommend."
