"We stayed at this hotel for seven days, it was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The rooms are cleaned every day, the food was fantastic more like you would get in a four star hotel. Every day the English owner was at the reception to help with any problems you have and nothing was too much trouble for her or any of her staff. The hotel is right next to all the sunset bars and straight across the road from the Golden Budda where you can have a drink at this bar to watch the sunset - great for taking photos, we have been to Ibiza six times and always stayed in san Antonio but I have got to say this was the best location where you could have lovely chill out bars and still easy reach to the night life of san Antonio. "Having been here many many times I have never been disappointed. Great location, great atmosphere, great food, outstanding value, and service, and all made possible by the owners Pepe and Anne, Rosie on reception. Tony and the dining room staff and the always cheerful BAR staff Jose and my good friend Vicente. Have already booked my flights for 2008. Looking forward to renewing old friendships."

"Stayed half board at the Gran Sol for 11 days. A truly excellent place, located on the northern part of the bay. Friendly staff, clean, sizeable, air conditioned rooms, regular clean linen and towels, even a safe was included in the price! Tariffs very reasonable. CCTV in operation throughout all corridors and public areas. Large reception area, with first class bar and catering facilities. Decent sized pool and area plus a large lawn area. Even the sun beds were provided with mattresses making them very comfortable. An unusual feature of the hotel was that guests were so friendly, because many were repeat visitors to the place, and consequently had got to know each other very well over the years. This not only indicated the consistent level of service that the place offered, it also created a very homely atmosphere. It would be very difficult to fault any aspect of this hotel. There is a small sandy beach within 300 metres and a new walkway along the edge of the sea has just been completed, which leads all the way to the port at San Antonio. This is a leisurely stroll of 15 minutes. There are many bars and restaurants nearby for those wishing not to use the hotel's catering service. Wife and I really enjoyed our stay here and without doubt will be returning again next May/June. Value for money, I can put hand on heart and say that this is one of the better hotels that we have patronized."

As soon as I booked this and paid for it...
"As soon as I booked this and paid for it, I thought "Why have I booked a 2 star, Half Board hotel as cheap as this - it will be rubbish!" Not so. It's a lovely hotel, with lovely staff. The outside of the hotel is nothing to write home about, and the pool area is plain and simple, but the rooms are lovely and spacious, and CLEAN. In fact, they are cleaned EVERY day, and the towels are changed EVERY day. Even the corridors are clean! We arrived by taxi (about 30euros), and checked in very fast. You have free air conditioning, which also has a heater (if you need it!), and a free ceiling fan. Even the safe is free. The only extra you pay for is the fridge, which at 3euros a day is fine. I like to keep cold water, so it's worth it for me to pay that! You can hire a full size iron and ironing board for 2euros a day. There is a launderette just up the road too - they take your clothes from you one day, and you get them back the next day - washed with fabric conditioner and folded for 10euros. There is even a hair dryer in the bathroom, which is not mentioned in the Thomson blurb. Water in the bathroom is ALWAYS hot, you have a shower over the bath, loo, basin and bidet. The hotel has a bar, entertainment 2 or 3 times a week, and a snack bar for during the day/early evening. Our package was HB, and the first night we ate out, because I just didn't feel that the food would be up to much. We only ate out once more on an evening after we had tried the restaurant, as it was great. Not the biggest choice, but there are only 138 rooms in the hotel, so they're not going to have loads of choice. For breakfast you can have toast, full English, cheese and ham on toast, cold meats, boiled eggs, cereals, fruit, Danish pastries, Madeira cake etc, plus various juices, as well as tea, coffee, hot choc etc. Dinner seems to consist of 3 choices of meat/fish for the main meal, then a couple of vegetables, and either roast, mashed or chipped potatoes. Starters range from full blown Paella, pizza, pastas, meats, vol au vents, olives, salads, soups and croutons, then desserts - there is ice cream - 3 different kinds of Walls desserts, an angel delight type of dessert, a "pudding", fresh fruit etc, then there is a hot dessert, which can be bananas in spices and syrup, apricots in spices and syrup, or poached pears - lovely! You are about a 10 minute walk from Cafe del Mar, Mambo, etc, but expect to pay for a drink at these pre-superclub bars! About 15euros for a vodka and a beer - would probably cost you 7 in any other bar. Another 5 minutes takes you into San Antonio town, where there are some fountains, and a few cafe bars/restaurants and shops. A walk up the back streets will take you to the Irish/British/Scottish pubs - expect to pay 5euros for a couple of large beers and a free shot each. The only reason the hotel doesn't get a 10 is that the pool and façade could do with updating, but don't let my being picky put you off. It seems to be in a residential area, and there are not many bars nearby, but as we went at the end of September, maybe some of them have shut down already? Apparently, all of San An shuts down around 18 October. There were PLENTY of sun loungers, and they are all washed down every morning, and all have mattresses on them. You can lounge by the pool, or round the corner in an area that is away from it all, set in a grassed area with Palm trees - OK if you don't have kids! Our 4 year old loved the hotel, the staff, the entertainment and was spoilt by the lovely guests, especially Maggie, Kenny and June from Leeds who he fell in love with, and Rose and her husband (who bought him a truck), and Tony and Maureen, who bought him too many ice creams to mention, as well as teaching him to play noughts and crosses! There is a tennis court, internet access at 1euro for 15 minutes, and the hotel are happy to book you taxis, trips, etc. We DID NOT see the Thomson Reps once, in 10 days. Normally, they stick a card under your hotel door if you don't attend the Welcome Meeting, but NOTHING from them this time. We were in reception when they were supposed to be visiting, but still did not see them. It is also up to YOU to ring THEM to find out when you are going to be picked up for your return to the airport - get a taxi for 30euros, then you don't have to listen to them whingeing on! Hee hee! The Aquarium is a nice hour long trip and costs 4euros each for adults and 2 for kids! Bargain! Not much there, but OK for a change. Takes about 20 minutes to walk here from this hotel (more for us as my hubby had a pot on due to him breaking his foot before we came to Ibiza). Have fun. x"

Don't tell too many people!
"We are a married couple of young at heart 50's. We stayed at this hotel last August and are due to return at the end of May. The hotel was reccommended by some friends who go about 3 times a year, sometimes for the weekend as it is so affordable. I was, like some other reviewers, wary of staying in a 2 star hotel as we normally go 4 star and usually upgrade. The standards in the hotel are excellent. The place is well run, clean, friendly, spacious and the food is well above average. We booked half board as it was so reasonable and fully intended to eat out most of the time however the choice and quality of the meals was so good we ate there most nights. On the Sunday night a huge Paella was produced which was delicious. There are plenty of sunbeds on the large grassy area behind the pool, which is pleasant, we did find the pool area a little too cosy as it is not large but were happy to sunbathe in the garden. The location is super, very near Mambo and Cafe del Mar, and within walking distance of plent of bars and restaurants, however we didn't find it noisy, also if any guests did get noisy in the night they were soon told about it. All in all this hotel is a great venue for any one wishing to book a cheap flight and hotel seperately and hire a car to visit the lovley beaches of Ibiza. The beach near the hotel is not great or very large so I wouldn't recommend the hotel for families wanting a beach holiday. Anyway I don't want too many people spoiling the peace and quiet!"

Excellent Hotel Y Turner Bradford
"Stayed at the Gran Sol for 7 days, excellent value. Very clean, although the furniture in the rooms looks a bit tired it is not a problem as everything else was spot on. Rooms cleaned each day and fresh towels, staff very pleasant, nothing too much trouble. The food was very good and you had plenty of choice - so you would never go hungery - something for everyone. No problem getting a sun bed. I would have preferred to probably have stayed in either San Antonio bay or the wonderful Santa Eulalia, just felt that this hotel was just a wee bit out - very quiet and the beach (not sure if you can call it that) not very nice but 10 minute walk into San Antonio and you have everything your need. Would I go back again - probably not, but only because there are other places I would like to see.......but I would definately recommend the Gran Sol Hotel."

Hotel Gran Sol. San Antonio. 5 Star Elegance at 2 Star Prices
"From the moment I arrived at the Marbled Reception Area of the Hotel Gran Sol in San Antonio, Ibiza. I was greeted by Anne (The Wife of this Spanish run Establishment) with a smile and total professionalism. The Whole area looked wonderful and when I got to my room on the 5th Floor I was delighed to discover that this single traveller had a twin-bedded room with balcony from which I could see both the sea and the Tree-lined sloping hills almost masking the private villas and other hotels. The fully furnished Bathroom (Bath and Shower Unit) was tiled throughout. I had faxed a request for a Fridge and this was ready and waiting for me, there´s something nice at being able to have a pre-drink on your own balcony before going down for Dinner. Both breakfast and Dinner are buffet Style and the choices are terrific, there was everything at Dinner from cheeses, cold and hot meats and a Salad selection as good as any 4/5 Star hotel would offer. Breakfast was the same, so much choice. Around the pool the staff, some of whom I found out later had been there for years, some as many as 25Years were on hand to serve your every need with a constant smile. Having travelled the world I was a little worried about staying in a 2 Star Hotel, but as with this review I had read all about what people thought of the Hotel Gran Sol in Ibiza and I´m glad I took their word as I hope you will after reading this. A Remarkable Hotel which I look forward to visiting many times over the coming years. Should you need any further recommendation I would be happy to respond to any emails you might care to send! 5 Star Wonderland! Carl Gresham. Writer/Broadcaster BCB Radio PO Box 3. Bradford. "Wow, wow, wow! We booked this holiday last minute and it was allocation on arrival. When we arrived at the airport and were told we were staying in San Antonio we nearly fell over, as it was a family holiday. Why did we ever worry? This is probably the best holiday we have every had! The hotel is absolutely fantastic. The rooms are immaculate, and are kept cool with huge ceiling fans. The staff at reception are wonderful and I cannot speak highly enough of the bar staff - especially Vincente and Jose - they truly made our holiday. The pool area is beautiful and even has waiter service. There is an excellent terrace by the pool side bar to escape the sun as it gets very hot here. It is a 1 minute walk from the hotel door to the nearest beach (clear water and white sand) and a 10 second walk to the beach from the pool. If you're willing to take a 10 minute walk to go to an even better beach then you need to go to Cala Grecio. Ask Jose at the bar for directions. It's like being on a paradise island. I could not rate my stay at this hotel any better. I'm off to Florida this year, but will be back to see the gang next summer. Vincente, Una grand Cervasa por favor? Looking forward to seeing you all again next year! Kimberley xxx"

good value,clean hotel :)
"My best friend and myself have just returned home from staying at this hotel and we were really happy with the overall standard of the hotel especially considering we only paid about £150 each for a double room for 10 nights. Its very clean, great maid service, good air con in the rooms, good pool and views from balconys and brill location just a block behind Coastline and Kanya. Not very lively though,no music by the pool, probably more family orientated, lots of nationalitys staying there with a varied age group too. Also theres no chance of smuggling your mates back at night or day,the staff are very strict on security which isnt such a bad thing really. xxx"

"This was a thoroughly pleasant hotel, clean, well laid out, very helpful reception staff. Due to the refurb, this surely deserves more than a 2 star rating. Upon arrival, due to my fear of lifts, the staff immediately set about getting a room on the first floor, which started the holiday off to a great start. Room change took place within one hour of arrival, you can't get this in a 4 star and the staff were more than helpful, they actually listened. Rooms were immaculate and generous in size. The only downside that happened to me and members of my party was two bar staff seemed less than friendly. We wanted to move sun loungers but they would only let us move them to the corner edge of pool, which IMO, proved more of a health & safety question than against the dining room wall/window. Their reason was that people MAY want to sit at the tables there? Siting them at the corner edge of pool restricted walking perimeter of pool. They did not ask us to replace them, they shouted from the bar area, therefore attracting attention from other guests, which made us feel like naughty children. Three times in the first day, they told off a member of our party. Apart from that, I would certainly recommend a stay."

"We have just returned from a short stay at the hotel Gran Sol - San Antonio, Ibiza. What a fantastic hotel. Considering we were only expecting a 2* hotel it was far from it. It would easily have passed for a 4*. It was in a great location only 5 mins from the nearest beach and about 10mins into town and the bars. You could sunbathe by the pool or for those wanting a bit of peace and quiet you could go into the hotel gardens to relax. The rooms were very clean and the staff were really friendly - especially Vicente the bar man. We can't wait to return to Ibiza where we will once again be booking to stay at the Gran Sol hotel."
