SOL PINET PLAYA HOTEL SAN ANTONIO
"This hotel is excellent value for money. The staff were very helpful and friendly especially in the restaurant and snack bar. Food was great, all meals were buffet, chef was excellent, cooked lots of the meat and fish in front of you. Great for vegetarians and people who need gluten free diet as plenty of choice, cleanliness of restaurant and hotel in general was outstanding. We paid for full board and all drinks were included at all meals and you could have as much to drink(alcohol and soft drinks as you wanted).Hotel is in a quiet location, evening entertainment was typically spanish but had plenty going on a short walk from hotel, lots of shops/pubs near by etc. Our room had lovely sea views and was very quiet daytime and night time. The swimming pool was good, very clean but slightly on the cold side, plenty of chairs and umberelas, nice music and atmosphere, it is right next to a safe sandy beach where you can take the boat across to San antonio town or hire pedalos plus other water sports. Safe for swimming and great for snorkling. Not really suitable for families with young children or wheel chair users. Great for couples, families with teenagers and able older people. Lovely mix of people, Spanish,French,English Will definetly return . "

"Excellent value for money, room a good size for me and my wife, maid service very good cleaned every day, hotel public areas also very clean, food good although no english breakfast. View from balcony was brilliant, straight across the bay to San Antonio. Right on the beach, ferries across to San Antonio every 30 minutes outside the hotel for 3 euros return. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Stayed during the volcanic ash crisis, they didn't hike their prices and were very very helpful. Plenty of bars near to hotel. Got a good nights sleep every night. Only downsides are in the summer possibly pool area maybe crowded and walls between rooms thin. I would definately recommend this hotel especially considering we paid just £38 per night half board for a double room."

Sol Pinet Playa was a wonderful place to...
"Sol Pinet Playa was a wonderful place to stay. It is about a 20 minute walk to the main party part of San Antonio. This meant that the noise level was fairly low and there were more Spanish speaking people to practice my spanish on!! The hotel has a great pool and its own beach, so you can sunbathe in peace. All the staff were extremely helpful. San Antonio is not a place to bring the kids ordinarily, but this part of the town was perfect. The little restaurants around the hotel were all reasonably priced, as were the shops. The taxi from the airport is quite expensive (20-30 euros) so if you can organise a bus then it saves a lot of money. If you don't want to walk the 20 minutes to the main clubbing area, then as a cheaper alternative, there are water taxis only costing a couple of euros. I would recommend it if you don't mind a touristy, tacky holiday."

Lovely Hotel - Great location
"We stayed at this hotel in May/June of this year (2006) and it was the third time we have stayed there. It is a lovely hotel with a fantastic location. Right on a little beach that is not too busy with a couple of decent beach bars to keep you refreshed throughout the day. The staff are all fantastic here, and I just thought I'd make a special mention to the entertainments duo of Paco and Jose who did an excellent job under some trying circumstances. Also Jose and Christian from the bar were fantastic too and very helpful. The hotel is absolutely spotless and for anyone concerned about cleanliness you needn't be here - the maid service in the rooms is impeccable. Also the standard of the rooms is extremely high - I have stayed in four stars in the canaries which weren't as good as here. The public areas are spotless too and the atmosphere here is really pleasant and relaxed. The only thing I would say is that the choice of food in the restaurant is a little bit restricted especially for kids - we had our 3 year old with us - and the menu could do with being expanded a bit, however the food that was on offer was of a decent standard and no complaints there. All in all a hotel I'd definitely recommend. In the quieter (bay )area of San Antonio so good for families or anyone with small children."

"Having been moved here from Es Cana due to overbooking we were not very happy, and then to find that most of guests were Spanish served only to fill us with dread. However hotel was first class, rooms were clean and tidy. Situated right on the beach plenty of room around pool. Entertainments staff during day and night were simply the best and as one of very few Brits staying here made us feel very welcome, worked really hard to ensure everyone was catered for. Bar / restaurant staff were very pleasant, cheerful and helpful. Food was varied and something for all tastes even if a bit slanted towards a continental style. Would definitely visit again but would probably book direct next time. At the end of 2 weeks realised we had not seen a Tour rep and it didn't bother us at all. "

Sol Pinet Playa Hotel
"Arrived at the hotel on the 11th June 2006. Hotel was very clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Good pool. The only criticism is that there was not really a lot to choose from in the restaurant for evening meal, meat options consisted of veal or pork. The beach is right next to the hotel, with golden sand and crystal clear water you couldn't ask for anything more. On the Pinet Playa beach are 3 small cafe/bars the best is the one immediatley to your left as you leave the back of the hotel pool area. To the immediate right of the back of the hotel is a small jetty with a boat which operates every half hour on the hour and half past the hour to san antonio town, a return trip is 3.5 euros each, very cheap considering it costs 7-10 euros in a taxi, the last service from Pinet playa is at 1900. San Antonio town is ok, it is just full of bars, cafes and souvenir shops. In the eevning it gets very busy, most of the bars will try and lure you in, you can't walk down the street without being harrased to go in somewhere for a free shot or cocktail. Once in the bar you have to purchase a drink before you get your freebie, the price of drinks ranges anywhere from 4 euros to 9 euros each!! There is a taxi rank in the middle of the town near the fountains. Around the harbour are various boat excursions you can go on. There are 2 of the bigger nightclubs located in San Antonio town Eden and Es Paradis. After a short walk from the toen you will find Cafe Mambo and Cafe del Mar, I would definitley recommend a visit to watch the sunset. Around the hotel itself, there are several bars/restaurants within walking distance, we found that the Mar i Pins bar is good. If you are planning a trip to anywhere else on the island, I would recommend to travel by bus the buses are very clean, efficient and cost only 1 euro 60 regardless of where you are travelling to. You can get bus timetable information from the tourist information office near the egg statue in San Antonio town. I would definitley recommend a stay at the Sol Pinet Playa if you want a nice relaxing holiday. The entertainment in the hotel is quite limited as they cannot compete with the bars/clubs in the bay. It would be a nice place for a family with very young children as you do not have to trek miles to the beach and can reach the town centre easily by boat or taxi."

Excellent value for money
"Having just returned from the Sol Pinet Playa I felt obliged to post a review. I booked at the last minute holiday (booked Wed night - went on Sun morning) through FlyGlobespan, and both me and my husband thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay there. The first part of the week, the hotel was relatively quiet but it did get busier as the week went on. A very mixed bag of holidaymakers, from groups of Spanish couples to more mature French guests. There were very few Brits at the hotel. The rooms are average sized rooms, with large bathrooms, plenty of cupboard and drawer space, including a mirrored wardrobe. The rooms have a safe (we didn't use, so not sure how much the deposit is). They are cleaned every day very thoroughly and beds made etc., and towels are replaced as you require them (although they do encourage you to re-use where possible). Our room had two twin beds and a sofa bed (which we didn't use as a bed). The beds were quite soft but comfortable as were the pillows - there are extra pillows and blankets in the wardrobe if you require these. The bathrooms have shower gel and shampoo, but no soap or other hotel freebies, e.g. shower cap, sewing kit, boot polish etc. Also, no hairdryer (please note that this is not a critisism, just letting you all know what to pack and what not to pack!). You get two glasses in the bathroom too. The shower is very good and there was always hot water when we were there. The rooms have air conditioning which you can set to 3 different levels - cleverly this only operates when the patio windows are closed. Our room was towards the back of the hotel (near the main road and some bars) but we rarely heard any noise that kept us awake (although might be different on the lower floors). Our balcony faced away from San An and we got the sun in the late afternoon/early evening and could watch the sunset. The balcony is furnished with a table and two chairs. The room keys are swipe cards and you can double lock from inside. Additionally, there is an internal door which blocks out any noise from the corridor (although we did not hear much noise at all). You can jump on a ferry boat into San Antonio Town from the pier just outside the hotel. They run every half an hour and take approx. 10-15 mins. 2EUROS each for single or 3,50 EUROS for a return. The pool are was very well kept with lots of loungers and parasols when we were there, however there is not a lot of space around the pool and I think that it might get a bit packed during the busier months of July and August. We stayed Half Board at the Pinet Playa and have absolutely no complaints about the food. It may get a bit tiresome if you stay for more than one week, however there was a wide selection of good food at the buffet inclucing paella, pork, pasta, vegetables, salad, chips, fish at dinner time. Some very nice desserts too! Breakfast you could have a fully cooked breakfast if you like, and/or croissants, doughnuts, cake, cereal, coffe, tea, fruit. The hotel has lots of public areas with TV's, PS2's, pool tables, and table tennis. We didn't watch any of the shows as it's not really our 'thang' so can't comment on this element. The only one downside has been mentioned before is the walk into San Antonio Town - it is a nice walk during the day (you can walk by the sea or along the road) but at night, it is too dark to walk by the sea and the road route wasn't very pleasant (although this might be because some of the bars and entertainment areas were not yet open) and so it made this part of the walk a little quiet and unnerving. Put it this way - I wouldn't want to make the walk on my own. Also, if you are infirm or taking a pushchair or wheelchair, be warned that the pavements in and around San Antonio Bay are not great - we saw a few people struggling with these. All in all a very good hotel. Staff are excellent and eager to help. Rooms and all public areas are kept very clean. A great choice for a relaxing break!"

Did not enjoy my stay at this hotel
"Sol Pinet Playa is a 45 minute walk to the centre of San Antonio which is okay during the day but the last 100 yards at night is spooky so after the first night, it was a taxi home which cost 7 euros. Was there for a week with my daughter and the hotel is spotless, lovely pool area and even better beach with beach bars. Sun beds on the beach are 4 euros. You can jump on the ferry to the centre for 2 euros each way which is a lovely 5 minute sail, the last ferry being 6 o'clock. Bad points were the dining room which after day 3 we gave up on and ate out. Found the choice to be poor and twice there was no hot food for breakfast. The hotel caters for mainly mature spanish residents. At the time we were there, we were lucky to see six Brits. Entertainment poor. Sorry but just wouldn't go back."

"This is a great hotel on the outskirts of San Antonio Bay. It is situated right on the beach and the room was clean and bright. Could not ask for more from a holiday hotel. We got a great deal booking directly on the Sol Melia website - they regulary have special internet only offers on."
