11 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"I stayed here for one night on a business trip.I found it comfortable and the staff friendly. My room overlooked the lovely square in front of the town Hall.Very atmospheric. It was less than five minutes to the beach and promenade and main shopping areas. The room was a decent size but a previous reviewer was correct that it was ok for a 3 star but small for a 4 star. But,I had paid less than 50 pounds for it through LastMinute and so it was excellent value. Tips for Business folk -the excellent Hotel Amerigo is 100metres away.It has a great lounge for business meetings. Restaurant Ibericos on Calle Gironda (off the Ramblas Nunez) is a great ,locals restaurant. On either side of it are good clothes and shoe shops."

Fantastic location close to promenade, h...
"Fantastic location close to promenade, harbour, restaurants and shops, directly opposite the town hall in shadow of the castle. The 6th floor Gym offers fantastic views of the castle especially in the evening when floodlit. The rooms are clean tidy a spacious with large bathrooms and storage. If you do not have a view of the square you do not have a view. The breakfast was all encompassing with fine choice. The facilities are limited by the size, location and age of the building. Great little flea market in the square on Sunday morning. Staff polite. The only downside was the noise. On the evening of our stay (Saturday night) there were about 10 weddings at the town hall and as the guest left the festivities we were kept awake between 2am and 4am, not the hotels fault, but boy was it loud as the sound reverberates between the buildings. Great long Weekend in alicante
"I have just returned from a brilliant Long weekend in Alicante, the weather was hot and the hotel was situated in a good position between the beach and the night life. Our Room had no balcony and no view to speak of but the room was clean and comfortable, you can go to the top of the hotel roof where there is a sun deck as such and great views of the castle. The hotel staff were friendly and ready to help where they could. The only thing i found a bit strange is that they had no room service if the cafe was shut, which seemed most of the time. So if you fancy a cup of tea when you get back from the beach go to one of the cafe's along the front by the Marina. The rooms could do with you coffee and tea making facilties but apart from that we had a great time. A good resturant to go to is the miami next to Macdonlds opposite the marina, english speaking staff and great food, we eat there every evening. Alicante's night life doesn't start till 12.30 1.00 am so best to have a sleep then go out till 5.00am!! Make sure you go to Havana club/pub great house music and jumping till very late!"

A Sheep in Wolf's clothing
"As my subject note suggests, this is no more than a 3 star hotel in the guise of a 4 star. I have stayed in many 4 stars in many parts of Europe and America and this is certainly not my idea of a hotel in this category. The bedroom was OK but too small which led to no sitting area except the bed. We had a small balcony, which could have accommodated a couple of small chairs, but there was nothing. The bed was atrocious more of a 2 star standard but the bathroom was large, fully tiled and well equipped, which whilst very nice, you don't live in the bathroom. The hotel reception have to be in line for the most dour bunch in Spain, although they did respond positively to all our requests, a smile here and there wouldn't have come in wrong. The reception itself is very small and the hotel has no communal lounge area except for the small bar, which quite frankly is a little shabby. On the positive side the location is perfect, and at the price of £44 per room we paid, it was fairly inexpensive, but now having stayed there I am pleased that is all I did pay. If you are looking for a 3 star OK but if you want a 4, no way."

Good value hotel in a great location; take care with the parking
"I stayed at the hotel Mediterranea Plaza in June 2005 and was impressed with the facilities, location and value. I found it to be well managed with efficient checkin, clean modern rooms etc. The hotel doesn't have it's own parking but has an arrangement with a local car-park at the port (5 min walk). If you do drive to the hotel, it would be well worthwhile parking in the one spot on the Plaza del Ayuntamiento that is reserved for guests of the hotel so you can check in and drop your bags etc. The local police station is right next door so you may well have a policeman stop the traffic for you while you park in the hotels' spot (as I did...). Be warned though; parking for longer than the 5 minutes allowed can lead to towing!"

good place to stay
"Stayed here for six nights in December 2004 Hotel: - nice building located next to the town hall - english speaking staff - good sized room, bathroom slightly shabby Location: - minutes from the beach - lots of bars, cafes and restaurants nearby - the bus from the airport drops you off practically outside the hotel - right next to the road leading to the Castillo de Santa Barbara Cons: - very thin walls which can be a pain if you get noisy neighbours - rooms at the back have no view to speak of"

In a couple of years will be fantastic
"This hotel has the immediate feel of a 3-star when you walk in (definitely not luxurious), but when you look at the variety of services they offer (even an emergency tailor to patch up your bulging seams if you eat too much paella), that's probably where they pick up their 4th star. Great value for the money, paid only 65 euros per night. The room is pretty standard, but the large size of the bathroom was a pleasant surprise ... it's almost as big as the bedroom. Front desk service was very polite and prompt. Convenient location, strolling distance to the beach, and to the old town. Only drawback had more to do with Alicante than the hotel ... right now Alicante is being completely rebuilt, they are repaving and repainting the entire Old Town, so when it reopens it looks like it's going to be fantastic. But in the meantime, there's nothing but lots of cranes and blocked off streets with piles of rubble to greet you on your promenade. Just 2 blocks away, they had the wrecking ball swinging, demolishing an old apartment block. It's only a temporary inconvenience though."

Alicante Hotel Mediterranea Plaza
"This hotel is great value, ideally situated, clean rooms with a big bed and spacious bathroom. A little noisy from the traffic, my partner wasn't disturbed but I, a light sleeper needed my earplugs (always travel with them). The staff in reception were very helpful."

Perfect location in Alicante
"We just stayed 4 nights in room 607, which is on top floor and has a wonderful outside terrace overlooking the small elegant town hall square. The hotel is quite small, very elegant and the staff friendly and discreet. The location is ideal, situated in the corner of a small square and just a short walk from the main streets and the sea front by the marina. Absolutely top value for 61 Euros per room per night. Would recommend this hotel to anyone."

"WE have just returned from Alicante. We can fly there from our local airport which is a bonus. Hotel room fabulous, biggest balcony we have ever had. Ask for room 607. It overlooks the square, Town Hall, castle, the lot. Hotel staff very friendly, breakfast choices were amazing. Weather, restaurants and Christmas activities all added to the experience. An ideal winter destination and so near to the UK in travelling time."

Decent Price....Quaint Property.
"Stayed Oct 15, 2003 for 2 nights... The price was right for this hotel, 1st time in Alicante. The rooms were somewhat dark and , unfortunately there was a lot of construction (noise) around the hotel.... The hotel and its surroundings were in a plaza type setting which we enjoyed.... Give Alicante a few more years and in my opinion will be a great vacation spot... (water, marina, nightlife)"
