Great value, but a few rough edges
"Myself and my wife booked into this hotel for four nights in mid July. The hotel decor was impeccable, the rooms were modern and comfortable, and at 65 Euro a night for the romantic package, it was a price that could not be beaten. The hotel is located a good 10 minute walk (downhill) from the riverside and the center of the nightlife, with a taxi back costing no more than 4 Euro. Overall, the staff were fine, though like most of the Portugese, we didn't find them oozing friendliness. However, it's always the little things that detract from the overall experience of a hotel and sadly there were a few that took the shine off our stay. We got off to a bad start with checkin taking almost 20 minutes. Requesting an iron turned into an ordeal and we were quite taken aback at the fact that the hotel does not appear to serve any kind of drinks or food before 7:00pm. Would I recommend this hotel? For that price, probably. However, If you want top-class service with great food and facilities, you may want to look elsewhere. To sum it up, you get what you pay for."

"I stayed in June 06 for four nights in a single room. The rooms are modern and a good size with nice bathrooms. Very clean and comfortable. It was a proper double room not a stinky hole by the boiler room! The bar / lounge and terrace are comfortable, if a little small, but are stylishly decorated. The bar is very reasonable and has a decent range of produce. Breakfast was not included in the rate but was of a better standard than many buffets I have seen. I generally chose to eat out. The staff were all very professional, knowlegable and were willing to assist with any enquiries / ordered taxis booked restaurants etc. The hotel is tucked away in a side street but once you get your bearings it is easy and quick to find your way around the local sights. There a few cafes/bars near the hotel, they dont look much but are friendly and provide substantial fresh meals for about 5E, Beer 1E and espresso 50-60c. Turn right from the hotel walk about 2 mins and there are places with charcoal grills doing fresh fish / steaks etc. Taxis, busses and trains are plentiful and cheap. This is a good thing as Porto is very hilly. The bars and restaurants down on the river offer a nice lively environment to while away a few hours at any time of day. Porto is very affordable and friendly. Eurostars is a good choice for the prices online."

Unlikely to find a better hotel
"2 of us stayed at the hotel in May after finding reviews about the hotel. Apparently it is a new hotel and so unsurprisingly all the facilities in the hotel were in good shape. The rooms were stylishly decorated and probably the most aesthetically pleasing of all the hotels i've ever stayed at. There were a couple of problems with our stay. Firstly we arrived at around 11 oclock. Unfortunately no room was ready by then - this we could accept as the usual check-in time at hotels is 12pm. Unfortunately we were told that our room would not be ready until 2pm. I was feeling ill that day so I was far from happy with that. The second problem we experienced was the low sound-proofing of the rooms. From inside our room, we could hear fellow guests wandering along the corridor and our next door neighbour stumbling in late at night. Otherwise, our stay was perfect. The price (which came to about £50-something in total for the double room excluding breakfast) was unbelievable for a hotel of that quality. I believe (although one can never be certain) the cheapest way to book rooms for the Eurostar das Artes is through the hotel website, having tried to beat its price. Beware that turning up at the hotel without a reservation would mean you have to pay considerably more (as is usual practice with most hotels) - I think a double room would cost you something like 120 Euros"

What a winner!
"My family (53, 53, 23, 20) booked 2 rooms here for the last 2 nights of our Spain/Portugal trip. Following 2 stays at some quesionable hotels recommended on this website, I was starting to wonder if the TripAdvisor reviews could be trusted. But the reviews on this property were clearly on the money. Nice convenient location, modern clean rooms, excellent bathrooms, friendly staff. We parked our car in the protected courtyard. OK, so the view out of our room was only fair-to-good. Still, a great value. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat."

very good value
"We stayed in the hotel for the first night of our holidys in portugal. I booked a romantic stecial with fresh fruits and wine in the room on bookings.com for only 65euros p.night inc.breakfast. The hotel is well located and it takes u a 10 minutes walk to the center. The stuff was very friendly. The room was nice and clean, the bed was one of the largest ive ever seen and there was a marble bathroom. I liked the breakfast buffet. Our only problem was the lift which looked modern but we got once stucked inside. The problem was solved in a few minutes but the staff could have excuse for that. The parking was 3 euros per night which is reasonable."

Euro is a star
"We stayed at this luxury hotel for 3 nights based on the reviews we read. The staff were friendly and courteous the hotel was beautiful and rooms spacious and quiet. We paid £109.00 in total to include breakfast with lastminute.com. We arrived early and were able to leave our luggage until our room was ready. The breakfast room was aesthetically pleasing and part of it looks out into a lovely garden. One word for the breakfast WOW. What a selection of beautiful breads, meats, cheese, fruit just something for everyone. We would definately stay there again. There is a great cafe about 20 metres before the hotel and on the same side. The walk to the river from the hotel is a good 15 minute walk. We caught no 601 from the airport to the Palacio de Cristal and walked approx 10 mins to the hotel. Maps can be obtained from the airport on arrival. We have stayed at various hotels throughout Europe but this one definately has the edge especially for the price."

"We spent five nights at the Eurostars Das Artes in late May-early June. There is not much we can add to the positive reviews that others have posted about this hotel â we basically agree with what everyone else has said! We booked directly from their Web site and paid 63⬠for the three weekday nights and 54⬠for the two weekend nights. Parking is still 6⬠per day. Breakfast wasn't included; we just bought some yogurt, fruit and fresh bread locally for an average cost of 1,25⬠including the excellent coffee we drank at the bakery. One major plus for us was Internet access for our laptop â wireless in the common areas and ADSL in the room. (Do bring your own network cable. They have some, but none were available when we got there). We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again."

"We stayed at the Eurostars Das Artes hotel for 3 nights in May and thought it was fantastic. The hotel is very new and modern, the rooms are spacious, clean and really confortable. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful, and nothing seemed too much trouble. We paid â¬53 a night and believe that this is an absolute bargin. Breakfast wasn't included in this rate, but one morning I ordered room service breakfast for one person to be delivered to our room as we had an early start. I paid â¬15 for the most amazing continential breakfast, and it was huge - more than enough for 2 people, even though I only ordered for 1 person. The only possible downside for some people is the distance from the old town of Porto, it is a good 20 minute walk down to the river but the taxis are very cheap, about â¬3.50 from the river back to the hotel, and there are always plenty of taxis around. All in all this is a great place to say."

"We came to this hotel after staying at the hotel Tuela at rotunda da Boavista. Eurostars is a little farther out of the way as far as visiting the sites and catching buses, but the hotel is so amazing that it is totally worth it. Amazingly clean, total european design, best breakfast we had in Portugal, and good service too. It was refreshing to walk into the hotel at night with it being so nice and high class, because walking the moderately dirty portuguese streets plus humidity really tires you out. Best selection of channels on the tv, tub big enough for 2, and looking brand new. Good price (75 euros/night, hotelsdotcom). Highly recommend."
