"Having exchanged here with RCI, I was very disappointed with the standard of the rooms. Very tired. I was charged 50 euros for the facilities, eg having the RCI rep there, reception, etc, however only rcimexchangebguestsnhavento pay. Owners and package holiday clients do not.
If that was not bad enough they had the cheek to charge 2 euros a day for sun shades. They really is nowhere in the shade , at the same time they are showing you,the UV of the sun as very high.... They certainly do not have any duty of care to the poor guests going red like lobsters
However the view from the pool and balcony were fab.
I would not go back. They will properly start charging for sun beds next.

Second holiday with the Atlantic Holiday...

"Second holiday with the Atlantic Holidays, part of the Pestana Group. First time at the Palms. This hotel is on the waterfront. Fantastic view of the sea and the round tower provides views over Funchal and the Desertas Iles in the East and sunsets to the West. The Maderian staff are very helpful at reception and in the resturant. All speak English though there are usually more German than British guests. We went at half term. the pool area is well maintained and there are plenty of sunbeds. Atlantic Holidays is a Maderian company so the reps are Madeiran and very helpful. The organised trips are very informative as are the Levada walks with Dorinda (You will need a head for heights but the views are spectacular). Would we go again - yes. We took our friends to introduce them to the delights of Madeira and they loved it and will be going next year. The hotel is in the 'hotel area' of Funchal. there are some excellent resturants nearby. the Tricolore is excellent value for money - try the steak on a hot rock and the local fish the espada. The Palms is more expensive than the 5 Star Pestana Carlton. It may need a bit of a refresh but all the rooms are spacious, with a full size fridge, utensils including glasses, plates and facilitites for cooking. Madeira is not the sunniest place to go for a holiday but beware - it is further south than many European resorts and the cooling effect of the Atlantic keeps in temperate but it is easy to burn."

We are going back every year

"This hotel is our favourite. We went for the first time in 2000 (discovered it by chance, while having booked another one), then in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. In winter, in autumn, in summer, in spring, it is always enjoyable. The Atlantic Ocean is so close, you can smell, hear, feel it, from your bedroom window. The staff is extremely helpful, kind, friendly and professional. The breakfast is a dream, surrounded by the ocean, with a good choice of food and drinks and great service. The pool is nice, okay, could be bigger. The "villa" is great for a cocktail, okay the entertainment is a bit boring, after having heard it five years .. The fitness/sauna is great relaxing, okay, could be a little bit bigger and better maintained. For kids there is not much to do, there is not even a kids club ... and not a lot of other kids to play with .. But it is home. It is hospitality. It is VACATION!"

~ Tropical Garden Paradise on the Sea Shore ~

"~ Island of Madeira in Portugal a 'Floating Garden Paradise' ~
I highly recommend this all inclusive apartment at The Pestana Palms.

We stayed in a large one bedroom sea view apt on the sea shore with views to the Deserta Islands ~ It was one of the best Holidays my family & I have enjoyed over Christmas and New Years...
Spotless!! Most comfortably furnished Portuguese style. With King & Queen size beds. TV in 5 languges. Our own compact kitchen. Lots of great wardrobe space. Enjoyed eating breakfast in the morning sun to the sound of the waves ~ Daily freindly maid service... Received a welcome bottle of Madeira wine and a bouquet of orchids on arrival.
We swam both in the pool and the sea ~ Buffet B.BQ served daily at pool side. We attended a complimentary Madeira wine tasting and a weekly cocktail party {meeting people from all over the world} Enjoyed dancing to live music each evening in the beautiful restored 19th C Quinta which is sittuated in the grounds of this beautiful Resort along with a five star 'theme night' restaurant.
We treated ourselves to relaxing 'Afternoon Tea' in the Quinta.
'The Palms' is walking distance to every thing a person would desire.
Local buses took us to the down town (Capitol) Funchal to the lively {fish & produce} in/out door markets just a 10 mins ride away.
The very tasty food is organiclly grown. Fish lovers do try the 'Esparda'

The Island was lit up like a Fairy Land ~ even the fishing villages and the 'Extravaganza' of fireworks at New Years eve was fantabulous!!
Do not miss the tropical gardens ~ A tour of the west & east sides of this Island. A levada walk takes you into the 'Real' Madeira.
At the Casino... we enjoyed a bonvoyage dinner show. Wonderful!!
All this for our family of four was for the amazing price of 500 B.Pounds for two weeks. THIS IS A VERY FRIENDLY And SAFE ISLAND.

"could not fault this hotel in any way,an island well worth a visit, not a destination for kids,if you like a beach holiday, there are none . go on organized trips to see breathtaking views, and try the toboggan run, after going up on the cablecar, but choose a clear day to enjoy it best."
