Britania Rules The Lisbon Hotels
"We stayed at the Hotel Britania for 7 nights on our honeymoon in early August. On our first full day, we went to the Oceanarium, and bought a cute 2-ft long seahorse (with 2 baby seahorses in its pouch, kangaroo-style). We loved the humour of the staff ... when they made the room up each day, they kept positioning the seahorses in comfortable positions on the chair or the bed! The breakfast is as good as others say: my wife enjoyed the custard pastries each and every morning! Our hairdryer worked fine. We also appreciated being able to use the wireless Internet at 2am to see our wedding photos newly posted online. A few things others haven't mentioned: complimentary newspapers in reception each day; in addition to the decanter of port, they also have a decanter of ginjinha (watch out for ginjinha bars, live it!); they have an antique art deco barber's chair, behind glass as a mini-museum; art work throughout the hotel focuses on Portuguese exploration; the fish restaurant near to the hotel, on the opposite side of the Av. da Liberdade (at no. 155), is Ribadouro. We went there twice and enjoyed the crab starter, the garlic prawns and dark beer. The air conditioning kept the room nice and cool in the 35 celsius weather ... it was on occasion slow to engage, but do you chew out a student for only getting 99% on a test? Now that we have read about the 6th floor rooms, we have to go back and hope for an upgrade!"

It's all true, folks
"We stayed for a weekend. Some websites call this a 3* hotel, possibly because it doesn't have a pool or other facilities, but I'd give it 5*. The rooms are fabulous. I wanted to pull up the cork floor and take it home. Great decor throughout the hotel, and the staff are charming. Parking is no problem, as they have reserved places on the street right in front of the hotel (free!) and park your car for you. Buses/metro just around the corner, although we preferred to walk. We loved it, and hope to go again."

One of the nicest places in Europe
"Believe all the reviews. This was a lovely place in a great part of Lisbon. The staff were very accomodating, and friendly. They looked after our needs, including for our children with excellent room service. Breakfast is good. The staff are superb. Stay here and you'll write similar reviews to ours!"

Could not be any better!
"My wife and I stayed at the Britania in early July and were absolutely delighted by the service provided by the extremely friendly and helpful staff of this wonderful boutique hotel. The common areas are small, but very cosy and spotlessly clean. Our room was very spacious and nicely decorated. The bathroom was also fine. Breakfast was excellent. The hotel location is also prefect. In 20 to 30 minutes one can walk to the city center . Or if you prefer take the underground, which is some 200m from the hotel. And despite this central location, our room was very quiet. We can only recommend the Britania to anyone visiting this lovely city."

Impressed with the Brittania
"This review is a little overdue, but when done later, I believe you know it's done in an objective frame of mind. We were a party of four, and had found the Brittania Hotel on the internet. We were particularly interested in the reviews. I would say that I speak for our entire party when I say we were extremely pleased with the hotel and staff. The breakfasts were great! The rooms were quite comfortable, and the front desk staff were truly helpful, notably Raquel, whose linguistic and organizational capabilities were quite impressive. The location was fine, with most areas accessible by 10-15 minutes walking, albeit briskly. We felt that we were well looked after, and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to visitors. We will definitely rebook in this hotel. signed: Brian Lee Abbotsford, British Columbia Canada"

Art Deco Elegance
"This is a lovely character hotel for those who like Art Deco style even though the hotel was built in the early 1940's . In some ways it is a bit like staying in a club rather than in a city centre hotel as it has only has 30 or so bedrooms. Our room was extremely comfortable and spacious. The staff were all charming and helpful and always avaliable to assist. If you like all mod cons this is not the hotel for you, as some aspects are a bit quirky e.g. air conditioning which has been mentioned elsewhere. It may also be a bit further from the city centre (10 minute walk) than you may wish. We discovered a very good fish restaurant but unfortunately I've forgotten the name! It is on the opposite side of the main road to the Louis Vuitton shop. It was full of local people but the waiter spoke some English. Avoid Hard Rock its awful."

Great Hotel and Staff
"Most reviews have covered it all. The hotel is excellent - large, clean, modern rooms but still with character. The staff could not do enough and were extremely helpful and informative on Lisbon. The breakfast was perfect - fresh fruit, fresh coffee, danish pastries etc. Would definitely recommend"

An Awesome Hotel!
"I can only agree with the rave reviews already posted here for the Britania Hotel. This being our first visit to Lisbon and not speaking Portuguese, we were hoping the claims of great customer service would hold true. They exceeded! From the prompt doorman who first hauled our bags from the taxi to the incredible desk staff and friendly server at the morning breakfast buffet (which was delicious), these folks could not have been better. And the hotel itself is fantastic. The rooms are large, and the hotel is located 1 block off the Avenida Liberdade, just steps from the Avenida metro stop. It is the perfect location for strolling down the avenue toward the waterfront, or hopping on the metro to reach any part of the city in a matter of minutes. The hotel is beautiful, and was spotless the entire time. For our last 2 nights at the hotel, we were upgraded to 1 of the hotel's new rooms on the 6th floor. These are great rooms -- beautiful marble bathrooms with "rain head" showers and towel warmers, a flat panel t.v., beautiful private balcony with lounge chairs overlooking the city (complete w/remote blinds). Definitely worth it! I highly recommend this place. We've stayed many places in North America and Europe and this is by far one of the best."

Lived up to expectations (and reviews)
"My fiance and I stayed here for just one (too short) night in late May on our way to Africa. I chose it based off the reviews and I can't say that I was the slightest bit disappointed. Arriving super early (7 am), we were unable to check-in, but the front desk staff were amazing and kind and let us store our luggage and enjoy the superb breakfast before we ventured out to go sightseeing. While the room wasn't luxurious, it was comfortable, clean and well-kept. The best part of the hotel was the amazing staff. Everyone was exceptionally terrific, from check-in, to recommendations, to getting us a rental car at the last minute. The location can not be beat. Great hotel!!"

"We missed our connecting flight to Spain and had to spend the night in Lisbon. Hotel Britiania was recommended by the information desk at the airport. We were pleasantly surprised at how clean, comfortable, and charming the hotel was. The staff were very friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. The free breakfast was delightful. The hotel is conveniently located walking distance to transportation and many of the main attractions. We had 2 adults and 2 kids and all of us loved this hotel. The only minuses were that the decor was a little quirky (strange mix of contemporary and traditional) and our bathroom door tended to get stuck. But those things were minor. We would definitely stay there again."
