Very nice choice
"My family and I decided to spend 4 days away and stayed at this hotel in April. Its a nice hotel, comfortable beds and rooms aceptably decorated. I asked to look at a suite and superior room and was impressed with the size and they also had nice LCD TV sets. The public areas are welcoming, good breakfast (Full English), the bar and restaurant are close to each other. What my kids really enjoyed was the wonderful pools one indoor and the other outside pool with lovely lawn and lounges to relax. The staff were all very nice and friendly and they also have a free shuttle service from the hotel to the city centre where you can easily take the train to Lisbon centre etc. We also spent a day at the close by beach and there are plenty of nice restaurants and the lovely marina area to spend some time."

"How disappointing it was to arrive at the Pestana Cascais. This is definitely not a 4 star location, it is tired looking, not particularly clean requires new pillows, towels and sheets all had holes. The counter tops by the stove requires a change, our room had broken laminate and the stove was not very clean. We have stayed at other Pestanas and this was definitely a disappointment."

"I've been staying here for the last 15 years (when the hotel was called the Atlantic Gardens); the hotel changed ownership 1-2 years ago ... but everything is still terrific. Lots of free parking (not easy to find in Cascais these days, due to a real estate explosion), quick check-in, a large and beatiful ocean-view room, nice bathroom with marble fixtures and shower/bathtub (hard to find in Europe these days). The grounds are nice, and the hotel is directly across the street from the ocean (with no buildings on the other side of the street to block your view). Cascais has made tremendous improvements on this side of town in the past 2 years - there is now a paved promenade by the ocean for walking/running. I enjoyed this every night after work! The hotel breakfast was wonderful - lots of variety from breads and pastries to 6 hot items offered every day ... and the world's best coffee. There is a tiny gym in the basement with a treadmill, a stair climber and 2 bikes, but nothing else. My only complaint - their Internet access - they need to pull themselves into the 21st century!! You can only use dial-up in the rooms. Wireless is offered in the lobby/bar at a rate of 3 Euro/hr or 10 Euro for 24 hrs."

A really nice place to stay
"We have just returned from 2 weeks holiday in Cascais at the Pestana Atlantic Gardens (or Pestana Cascais as theyâre now calling themselves). I really liked this hotel, the rooms were spacious and we had a wonderful sea view from the balcony of our room. We had breakfast in the hotel every day which I felt was good value at 8.50 euros each. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the centre of Cascais but this is no bad thing as it was really quiet and the walk along the ocean to the town from the hotel is nice. The hotel has a shuttle bus into Cascais and along to Guincho Beach and taxis from town were never more than 4 euros when we came back late at night after the bus had stopped running. The hotel is also on the tourist shuttle bus from the airport so is very easy to get to. The only complaint was that the shower in the bathroom had a mind of its own and the poor water pressure meant you were either scalded or frozen - and usually both. The hotel has 2 pools and well-kept grounds for relaxing poolside with a pool bar doing snacks and drinks. I really liked this hotel and would go back again and stay here and am happy to recommend it. Cascais isnât overly touristy and has plenty of charm. Sintra and Belem are wonderful days out and Lisbon is very easy to get to. You can take free bikes from the local BiCas outlets and cycle to Cascais or along to Guincho Beach on the cycle paths - definitely worth doing (as long as you donât fall off and make a fool of yourself, ahem). The Casa de Guia restaurants and shops are worth visiting (turn right at the roundabout on the oceanfront instead of turning left to Cascais from the hotel) and I heartily recommend Eduardoâs Belgian restaurant in Cascais itself. Itâs on a side street in what can best be described as a shed, and is a wonderfully old-fashioned and charming place to eat."

Not a 4 star status
"I just returned from spending 5 days in the Pestana and while it was ok, I did not find anything particulary spectacular about it. It certainly was not a 4 star hotel, even by Portuguese standards (we stayed in some other hotels in Portugal also). The room did not smell the most pleasant and this was probably from people cooking in the rooms. In my mind, there was not enough room for that anyhow, let alone do cooking there. It is a bit out of town but taxis are cheap. The decor is interesting....if you like boats. Television would increase sund for no reason and the shower was tempermental and choose at its own time to be hot or cold. Overall it was fine....but I won't be going back to this hotel."

"We spent a week (second week of august 2005) in pestana atlantic gardens. In general all is very good. In particular : swimming pool for the children, international customers are present (german, english, spanish, dutch, french, italian, japaneese ...), mini club for the children with a very pleasant staff, activities for the children or the adults (volley ball, waterpolo ...) like in a free club. Rooms sea side are very nice, right side is maybe a better choice while left side is hard heated by the sun until 9 o'clock. Buffet restaurant is always the same :(, buffet breakfast is fine excepted the coffee which is absolutely awful. Cleaning is pretty perfect. Hotel is a little bit away from cascais town and from the beach. Traffic is heavy in summer, so you have to choose the bus proposed by the hotel, to choose shift time or be very patient. Beach of guincho (7 kms west, first beach west coast of the portugal) is absolutely splendid, paradise for surfers and windsurfers and offering a wonderful sight while the sun is diving into the ocean (around 9.30 o'clock in august). Enjoy your stay."

Very enjoyable stay
"We stayed for 5 nights and found hotel to be very comfortable, pool and gardens excellent and staff very helpful & pleasant. We wholeheartedly endorse previous reviews and would very happily stay there again. ps - I think that the ** rating on tripadvisor is too low - should be *** or ****"

Good Value for Money!
"This Hotel is a good spot for the Golf Lovers. You have several Golf courses to choose from and at the Reception they have acess to great prices at the Golf Courses. We had a nice time at the Great Fairways of Penha Longa and Qta da Beloura wich have very good greens. The Hotel is very much OK. We loved all the staff from receptionists to the housekeeper, who was very polite during our stay. We had a great Time there. Regards to Cascais!"

Good value, great view
"We have just returned from a 6 night stay in the hotel and found it very good. Room was really excellent - on the top floor with an uninterrupted view of the whole Tagus estuary, very roomy because of the kitchenette (with fridge) and large balcony, refurbished modern decor and furniture, and massive queen sized bed. Facilities are good with large indoor heated pool as well as outdoor pool with sunbeds and lawns. Breakfasts are very good too. Optional evening meals were 18.5 euros with three courses (buffets most of the time - so you eat as much as you wanted) - and we thought they were good value the three times we ate in. The hotel were also doing a discounted rate of 15 euros if you took 3 meals (voucher system) which made them even better value. The house wine is good and quite cheap too. Location might seem a bit of a downside - a brisk 20 minute walk into Cascais, but there is a free regular hotel shuttle bus and the airport shuttle (about 7 euros) starts from outside the hotel. Also the Buscas local bus service runs every 7 minutes from a stop 5 minutes walk away near the bullring. We hired car for three days - which we think is a must if the stay is for more than a few days. The hotel have very good rates for this - cost us about 110 euros including full accident insurance. It is easy to access the motorway from the hotel and we were over the bridge in Lisbon within 30 minutes."
