Blue & Green The Lake Spa Resort

"We stayed at the The Lake resort hotel on 24th May for a week. We would highly recommend the hotel and local resort. Although the hotel was fairly quite - the receptionist said about 50% of rooms were occupied when we were there, this made for a peaceful break. In high season, I am sure it would be much busier round the pool and in the nearby marina. We opted for a garden view room which was more than adequet for us, however if you wanted to sit out on your terrace or balcony it may be worth paying more for a lake view room. The hotel was luxurious in every sense - the staff were very helpful and polite, everything was spotlessly clean and the decor was modern and comfortable. The breakfast was great with lots of choice - everything you would expect from a five star hotel. We did not eat any evening meals in the hotel restaurants as we sampled the range of restaurants at the marina, but it would be advisable to book as the nicest places (the Mayflower and il Lamparo - in our experience) seemed very busy once the half term week began and people without reservations queued for tables on most nights. The only disappointment was the food at the lagoon pool bar at the hotel where we had lunch on a few days. It was average to say the least and rather expensive. However, overall we had a great holiday!"

A pretty good 5 star hotel
"Just got back from 1 week at the resort with wife and 4 yr old daughter.
The Hotel : Very large, w shaped on 4 floors - looks a bit stalinist from the front but more palatial from the back, which is where you spend most of your time.
Rooms : We staid in the cheapest room but were upgraded to sea view ( same size ) - you can't actullay see the sea, but get to watch the swimming pools. Would not pay extra for this.... The rooms are very nice, being relatively new, large ( the 3 of us fiited in no problems ) with seperate toilets, bath and shower and lots of cupboard space. Small balcony. 21" flatscreen TV with the usual channels but no internet access
Food : 3 main restaurants are all pretty good. Fusion is an attempt at mixing Portuguese and Asian cooking - doesn't quite come off but nice restuarant - about 150 euros for 2 with wine. Gastutio is Portuguese / Europe and is alright - about 120 Euros with wine. Finally there is a grilled fish restuarant on the Lake which does what is says on the label.. also about 120 Euros. There is a small restaurant by the beach but did not try this. The main marina is about 10 mins walk away with hundreds of restaurant which all look the same ( and the same as every marina in the Med... ). Breakfast is a big buffet - not bad but gets a bit boring after a while - a small lack of healthier options too. All restuarants had good chidlren menus but only opened at 7.30
Facilites : 3 pools - one very shallow with sand and popular with children, one heated ( though still quite cool on our trip ) and one cool ( very cold end of May ). Pools are pretty square and characterless . Small but very well equiped gym ( lots of new cardiovascular equipment ) though could be better air conditioned. There is also a basketball/5 a side court, though there was nothing organized on this ( I was told the hotel was too quiet at the mo for "activities" ). There is an area where they organize activites for little children, but this was being run by 2 guys who spent the whole time organizing football games and playstation stuff ( fine for little boys, not so good for little girls ). The beach is about a 10 mins walk away. There is a big lake in the middle of the resort ( unsurprisingly ) and there are free peddleoes etc... Lots of golf options in the area ( though didn't try these ) and they can organize tennis about a 10 minute walk away
Staff - very friendly and helpful. Made a big difference
Overall - quite a good 5 star hotel. We were there just before high season and it did feel very empty which some will like, some won't. Half the guests seemed to have young families, the other half were in the 50+ brigade. About 75% were English. My only comments/complaints would be a slight lack of facilities ( no Tennis courts or golf actually there ) and a certain lack of character to the place ( possibly because it was quite empty ). It was a nice hotel, but a bit lacking in any surprise and delight features to make one really feel like you were in a 5 star hotel. There was nothing particularly wrong, just nothing really to recommend about the place, other than it did nothing wrong. Still, for a lot of people, and judging from comment about other places, this is more than enough...."

"My husband and I spent 5 days at the Lake Resort and it was just outstanding.
From the moment we arrived the staff could not do enough for us. We were celebrating our 7 year wedding anniversary and, when we mentioned this at check-in, we were given a complimentary room up-grade and a bottle of champagne. We were also shown around the hotel by the concierge who told us where everything was. We were made to feel very special!
The hotel and the rooms were very clean and the bed was extremely comfort! Also, each night, when the beds were turned down, a note was left to say what the weather forecast was going to be for the next day - nice touch!
The view we had from our room over the lake, marina and sea was fabulous. The 'sandy' swimming pool was fantastic as were the jugs of sangria and cocktails!
The staff were so friendly (especially those at reception) and nothing was too much trouble for them. (I find it hard to believe that others who have stayed at the Lake Resort have had issues with the service as there was no evidence of 'bad attitude' when we were there.)
We would definitely go back again. We have stayed in other 5 star hotels but this is, no doubt, the best we have experienced."

Vilamoura The Lake Resort Hotel
"We were booked into this five star hotel into oneof the apartments I booked through Vilamoura.com. The apartment had a 'garden view' and although partly faced the car pack (as it was on the ground floor) we also saw quite a lot of the marina and we also had the bonus of the garden area where we moved the table and chairs once the sun began to creep around!
The apartment was large but dull! There were some rough edges in that it wasn't particularly clean and a nice touch would have been to have had a welcome bottle of water or wine in the fridge and perhaps tea and coffee.
After rearranging the furniture, the coffee table and table lamps and side tables etc we settled in for the duration!
Vilamoura has a lovely large marina with many shops and restuarants and bars. A boat trip alang the coast was the high light of our ten days. Don't miss a chance to have a look at the caves and amazing coast line. We hired a car for three days (90Euros from Budget in the marina) and took ourselves up to the golf course academy for those afternoons, to learn a little more about golf and try our hand at the three holes available and a bucket of balls on the driving range! This little course is perfect if you don't feel you're quite ready for the 'big' stuff!
Will let you into our little secret, possibly our most favourite little eatery (at the club) where we were able to rest inbetween the driving range and the 3 holes sitting outside with almost undivided attention and the most delicious food simply served and at 'simple' price never more than 30 Euros for three.
The lake resort although a rather grand place lacked souold for want of a better description and I would have preferred to have stayed in a small villa or similar farther along towards the western coast of the Algarve.
In April the weather was iffy however we managed to come home with a sun tan!"

"We stayed at the Lake Resort in August 2006 with my 4 year old son. We stayed in one of the apartments and were very impressed. The apartment itself had everything we needed (except a dvd player although we'd bought our own). We were right near the beach pool which was perfect (if a little uncomfortable underfoot as the sand is
made of crushed tiny pebbles and shells I think). The food in the restaurants was lovely although we did venture into the marina for more reasonably priced food. As our apartment had a kitchen we also bought food from the local supermarket and make some of our meals in the apartment. My son had a wonderful time, the kids club was great! All in all a brilliant holiday the only thing that wasn't ideal for me was the beach - it was so busy but that could have been the time of year. We'd definitely visit again."

Service and attitude 2 Star Max- Hotel 5 Star
"We had looked forward to our stay at the Lake resort for some time, but I have to say their web site makes the hotel over rated. Yes the hotel itself is absolutley lovely, but the overall service lets it down and they need far more man management. We booked a 1 bed appartment with views over the marina, we had our 15 year old son with us. The room was very comfortable and we were happy with it. We soon realised that we were 1 of only 3 other families/ couples staying at the hotel, although it was half term. We put this down to the price as all the other hotels in the marina were buzzing. Because of the lack of guests the hotel had decided to turn off the heating in the main pool, and when questioned admitted to us it was because they were not busy and could not warrent heating the pool. On top of this the outside floating restaurant remained closed for the 1st week, and the outside bar closed for the two weeks we were there. They did finally open the floating retaurant for lunch a total of 3 lunch times because we complained. The Fusion restaurant was closed for the whole of our stay, which left one restaurant open which is where breakfast is also served and in the evening has as much atmosphere as a school dining hall. The menu is limited and did not change for 2 weeks!!!! There is no pool service for drinks and as the outside bar was closed we had to go inside the hotel bar in our swimming costumes- which they ask you not to do. We finally got pool service on 3 occassions, again only after complaining. The service at this hotel is the worst We have ever experienced and we travel all the time and always stay in 5 star. The compensation to us was an upgraded room to a 2 bed, 2 bathroom which was more comfortable, but as the hotel was so empty, it did not seem much as everything else was closed and we were forced to leave the hotel every evening to get different food. The pool with the sand- I almost forgot! Was empty- out of use for maintenance!! We understand they have to maintain the hotel, but not surely when everything else is closed. My Husband had a very heated disscussion with the management before we left, and their attitude to our complaints stunk. They do not give a damn it seems about there reputation or getting customers to return. The reason for this we discovered is that the appartements have all been sold off to private individuals, and it looks like the hotel rooms may go the same way. You are made to feel like an absolute nusience for even being there. They also have alot of corporate functions and surprisingly they managed to use the closed restaurants for these! I have not written this review before as we were told by the company we booked through that they would try and get us a complimentary weekend stay as our experience was unusual. This has not happened as the hotel feel the upgraded room was enough and that we should be happy. All I can say to The Lake Resort is- We will not be back although I would visit Vilamoura again."

The best swimming pool I have ever seen!
"We stayed here in July last year with our 2 boys (4yrs and 6 months) We stayed in a 1 bed apartment. This was small but perfectly formed. Good kitchen (had to ask for tea towels and dish washer tablets) the staff were very helpful, - they provided cushions and blankets so we could put our son on the floor (the floor was cold and stone) Bedroom was small and my other son slept on a camp bed in the lounge - a 2 bed apt would definatly have been better. The hotel was rather quite when we were there - but you cant complain at that - choice of sunbeds! the "beach pool" is amazing, fantastic - we all loved it - it had sand in it up to half way, at first i thought we had the beach in our hotel - but no it was a pool. we stayed right next to it all week. The staff arround the pool were helpful - but they had some strange rules : you could only order sardines in the resturant, not by the pool bar, but all the food was cooked in the resturant! anyway it was a lovely hotel, and i would go back - but everything is expensive !"

The resort complex is superb, but we boo...
"The resort complex is superb, but we booked this at great expense for five star service and if that's what you want - do not go here in October.
From the day we got there nothing in the way of facilities was as described or as you would have expected from a five star resort.
The general excuses given by the management were that as it was not busy it was ok to:
1) Turn off all the outdoor pool heat
2) Close the infamous "lake pool" for refurbishment
3) Cut down trees around the poolside for one whole week
4) Have only one restaurant out of three open and maintain only one menu for two weeks.
5) Dig up the front entrance causing considerable noise and mess
6) Supply no "poolside service" on any occasion over a two week period unless we took a five minute walk into the main bar.
7) Be warned this is not a five star service resort hotel and I would not recommend this to anyone looking for great service.
8) My comments to the general manager were that: If I happen to be the only person staying at the resort would it be acceptable for me to have to clean my own room and cook my own meal in the restaurant? As he felt it was fair to shut down almost all the facilities as they were not very busy."

"i stayed at this hotel with my parents and friend in august and i have to tell you that it is one of the most asteticly pleasing hotels ive ever been in. we had a suite, and it was huge, seperate livign area, two showers and toilets, two verandas, and an exquisite bed. the interior design of the hotel actually looks just like it did on the website. the spa is also out of this world, a huge array of treatments, and all very modern, with a very luxurious theme running through the spa, all high tech equipment, some treatments i hadnt even heard of. excellent hotel, truely deserves its 5*, and ive stayed at some of the best hotels in the world."

Excellent - from Dublin, Ireland
"My partner and I got married on the grounds of the Lake Resort. The staff and management of the hotel were exceptional and went out of their way to make our day so special and romantic and made all our guests feel extremely welcome. The service was prompt and efficient and the food was superb as you would expect from a hotel of this standard and the general atmosphere in the hotel was very relaxing. The pools, Spa and restaurants where spotless and rooms were very comfortable. Although admittingly quite expensive, we would definitly recommend it.

A must return hotel
"My wife and I spent the first week in September 2006 at this lovely hotel and we will return there if we visit the Algarve again. On arrival we were given an immediate up-grade from a garden room to a sea view. Two days later, we were up-graded to another room but with a balcony as large as the room itself !!. Admittedly the hotel was not busy but the management and staff were very eager to please.
Facilities in the rooms were first class and comments in previous reviews about lack of bathrobes, hairdryers, room service info and turn down service etc have obviously been remedied.
Our dinners in the hotel centred on the "Mare Nostrum" fish restaurant situated on a floating pontoon on the lake and was simply excellent. Our experience was that previous training issues about staff mentioned by past reviewers have been addressed.
A visit to the local casino faced early disappointment by the non-appearance of our taxi, booked by the concierge, but the duty manager immediately reacted by transporting us there by their courtesy car.
Our last resort hotel holiday was in Sharm-el-Shek ,rated 5-star,and, by comparison, we found the Lake Hotel to be very good value for food and refreshments ( we were on B&B basis). Admittedly prices were higher than the marina area, also worth a vist, but the quality of the food was well worth the premium.
We recommend you give this place a try."
