A relaxing, unique place to stay

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tavira Inn. We felt at home and very welcome, as Sebastiao is a great host. The Inn is well furnished with interesting features and artwork. Our room and balcony were spacious. The bed was very comfortable. The en-suite bathroom was also fine, although the shower cubicle was not the biggest we have come across. The Inn is also a great base from which to explore Tavira, while being in an overall, quiet location. There are plenty of good places to eat breakfast and other meals within walking distance and the bus station is also a short distance away. Ideal, if you are traveling without a car, although parking is available if required. A great location for a laid back, relaxing and interesting holiday. The railway bridge and infrequent trains (not at night) only added to the interest in our view. The beaches are a short inexpensive ferry ride away."

"My third visit to the Tavira Inn and the second by myself. Can't recommend it highly enough. Perfect if you are after a relaxing, friendly and unpretentious place to stay. Sebastiao is also a brilliant host. If you want to visit a non-touristy part of the Algarve, stay here."

Urban contradiction

"Tavira Inn is an urban contradiction - situated on a beautiful old tidal river where the occasional jet ski is ridden past - home to lunch at 2 or back to work at 5. The quiet street is shattered by the occasional sewing-machine motor bike with no exhaust. The railway lines hang on the bridge above to support the occasional train as it thunders by (not after dark). Then there is the red garage door to access the well stocked late night bar where the travel weary visitors share stories. And the salt-water pool, sun lounges and roof-tile lamp shades. Finally Sebastiao, his story is amazing and his passion for food, wine and music. The recommended restaurants are equal to the best anywhere in the world. This sleepy little town transforms into a holiday bonanza and yet at the Tavira Inn time stands still."

"If you like 'laid back', then look no further than Tavira and Sebastiao's amazing little Inn, anymore laid back and they would fall over. Sebastiao is the perfect host and goes out of his way to make your stay in Tavira a memorable one. The hotel is perfectly situated on the river bank, only a short walk from the town centre and its lovely mix of bars and restaraunts, the beach is a little further but well worth the walk. The guest rooms and the bar area are very comfortable and the individual decor in each reflects the artistic nature of the host. If you want to see the real Algarve, turn right at Faro airport and head for Sebastiaos in Tavira."

Boomerang again

"We've been at Tavira Inn for the second time. It was the same boomerang effect as the last time (4 years ago): We started our trip at Tavira Inn and after a few days in other areas of the Algarve and the Alentejo we had to come back to this beautiful and calm place. Lying at the pool, taking a boat trip to the beach, going out for dinner into the town and after that coming back to Tavira Inn having a drink at the Jazz bar under the pool, what do you need more?"

"Stayed at Tavira Inn again this year. We keep saying we will try somewhere different but just end up going back. The relaxation and ambience is wonderful. Lovely comfy beds, spotlessly clean, friendly host .Sebastiao is like an old friend whom you just want to keep visiting. Far preferable to the formal stuffy atmosphere of a lot of high rise hotels. You are not going to hear someone in the room upstairs dragging furniture accross the floor at 6 o clock in the morning just calm and serenity. Now where shall we go next year? "The Tavira Inn / Casa do Rio and its wonderful proprietor Sebastiao alone are worth a trip to Tavira! The place with its absolutely unique surrounding - the train bridge really doesn't pose any problem at all, on the contrary, we found that it added tremendously to the great atmosphere (it's a real beauty) of the place - offered us a perfectly comfortable and relaxing stay. So, on the one hand we had the tranquility of the place and on the other it took us only a couple of minutes by foot to get to the town's nice center with its cafes and restaurants. And with Sebastiao we met a perfect host: It was a pleasure talking to him, exchanging thoughts and ideas. Sebastiao is a very friendly, inspiring and open-minded person, who gave us the feeling of not being merely our host, but somebody we had already known long before. All in all, we can only recommend the place and the great guy - 5/5. Nick & Andrea"

"Tavira Inn (Casa do Rio) is an hidden oasis in a perfect idyllic setting. My room was comfortable and tranquil with a wonderful view from the balcony. The Inn is such a fabulous building with wonderful original artwork in the interior and extraordinary plants surrounding the exterior. Sebastiao and his son, Joao Maria made me feel so welcome that I really felt at home. My only regret was that i didn't stay longer, so that I could enjoy more days by the refreshing sea water pool or more evenings in the fabulous bar with it's chilled atmosphere. As I had never visited Tavira before I was pleasantly surprised by the town with its culture both old and modern, the island with its unspoilt stretch of beach and the restaurants with their delicious mix of portuguese and fusion cuisine. I will definitely be back, thank you both."
