Excellent 5 star resort but 3 star service

"The As Cascatas is a lovely resort and has everything you could ask for. My husband and I had a wonderful holiday, but the hotel certainly does not offer a five star service. We liked the location of the apartments and although isolated a little you can get to the Marina/Beach via the courtesy bus or the little train which runs around the resort. It took us roughly 25 minutes to walk to the Marina and it's a very nice and safe walk. The apartments are of a very high standard and I'm comparing these to the Lake Resort. The As Cascatas apartments are much bigger, better lay out with a seperate kitchen and luxurious bathrooms. The problem with the resort is the service. The hotel was certainly low on staff for the number of guests. Breakfast and lunch times were verging on 'Fawlty Towers' style. On a number of occasions I had to ask for cutlery, plates, food to be replenished, milk, hot water for tea was luke warm. There's no waiter service by the pools, there's no door man available to greet guests, i.e. take luggage etc, which ok it didn't ruin our holiday but it's certainly not Ritz Carlton. However when we were paying 15 Euros for a Kir Royale and 10 Euros for a Gin and Tonic, 15 Euros for a burger then you expect to get the service that goes with the prices. I would certainly recommend this resort and no doubt we will return again but there's some areas which certainly need improving."

"We stayed in Apartment 003 ground floor overlooking the pool. It was fantastic. Really safe for the children - we had three terraced areas and our own garden. It was 5 star plus. Decor was out of this world. TVs in all rooms plus DVD player and selection of games for the kids. Fully equipped kitchen and two de luxe bathroooms. You can use all of the facilities of the Hilton Hotel for free. If you are going to Vilamoura don't stay anywhere else. Make sure you don't end up renting a timeshare at the Hilton hotel as they are more expensive not as luxurious and much smaller. As Cascatas Apartmento is the place!! We will be back."

Fantastic apartments but let down by poor service in hotel!

"We have just returned from a stay with our baby and whilst the apartments are amazing it is such a shame that our experience was let down by the terrible service in the hotel. They certainly have no idea how service in a 5 star hotel should be and the hotel appears to be run to the convenience of the staff rather than customer focused. The good: Gorgeous apartments, absolutely immaculate, great maids (never said that before!). The bad: They advertise a show cooking chef in the restuarnat but never once saw him cooking anything fresh. He would come out occasionaly to cook a batch of whatever it was and leave them in a tray under hot lamps. When we have stayed in other hotels at breakfast eggs would be made in front of you fresh and at dinner food would be cooked individually for you also. Don't know why they advertise a "show" chef when he may as well just cook things in the kitchen and bring the tray out for the buffet like everything else. Service was very dissapointing. No one ever checked if we would like more tea/coffee/drinks. There seemed to be no warmth or friendlieness to the staff. Ate in the poolside restaurant twice, first time we waited 20 mins to get served. 2nd time ordered a club sandwich (£12 each) which arrived stone cold (even tho toasted), clearly they had been made and stored in the fridge ahead of time, waitress told us they were meant to be cold (with a runny egg???) then when we lifted our baby out of the highchair she was soaking wet from the chair, even tho I had asked the waitress to check it was dry. Buffet way overpriced and not worth the money. Not a patch on buffets we have had in other 5 star hotels. We were half board but changed to bed and breakfast and had dinner at the marina each night which was lovely. Pool does not open until 9am but this more like 9:15 when anyone turned up and began to put mattresses out & towels. Pool bar often is open but with no one serving, at least 3 occasions we went to the bar to find no one there! Prices v expensive, 3.50 euros for a can of coke. The only way from the apartments to the hotel is via 2 sets of steps. Not good for families with a pushchairs or anyone with a disability. Mentioned to reception and they said they were aware it was a problem and are looking at ways to rectify it. In summary, we had a lovely holiday, the apartments are brilliant for anyone with kids. Pool area is lovely. Was very quiet when we were there, lots of beds no matter what time you get there. They were also very accommodating letting us have an early check in and a late check out for no extra cost. The main problems were with the hotel restaurant and staff and to be honest in the end we just didn't bother going there as we had no need to, we had lunch in our apartments and went to the marina of a night to eat. When we have stayed in other hotels of this standard the service has been brilliant and staff go the extra mile all the time to ensure you are enjoying your stay."

Best Hotel Apartment ever stayed

"Went to As Cascatas Apartments with my wife and 8 year old son together with friends that have 2 kids (4 and 8yrs). We booked, for us, a 1 one bedroom apartment and when arrived we were upgraded to a 2 room Aptm. At reception, service was efficient and kind. The Apartments are one of the most luxourious apartments in Algarve with lots of space, modern furniture like LCD´s in every room, stilish furniture and a fully equiped kitchen (separeted from the living room). In the master suite you can find a Hydromassage bath with marble floors. Cleaning service (that includes putting the dishes on the dishwater: Hoorray!) is efficient and twice a day. The balconies are large, one with a table for four where you can have a snack/meal while looking at the resort view. One of the good things of staying in As Cascatas is that you can benefit of the comfort of staying in an Apartment, specially with kids this is really a benefit, (right moms and dads ?) while having all the commodities of a Hilton 5 star hotel. We went on a Bed&Breakfast included and all the restaurants, gardens and 6 (yes 6) swimming pools are shared between the Apts and the Hotel. Now for the SPA: Altough the price is a little high when compared to other good spa´s (90-120€ one massage) it included a full access to the all spa complex that is really great. You have 3 inside pools with jacuzzi, "long chaise" water bubbles massage and of course the traditional sauna and/or turkish bath with scents. It is considered one of the biggest spa in Portugal and it is really a beautiful and relaxing space. The resort is not directly on the beach, but the hotel provides a free shuttle every 30 min that takes you on a 5 min ride directly to and from Falesia Beach where they have a hotel support bar there. You can also Summing everything it is indeed a great place to stay: a 5 star resort, with the service and ameneties that you expect to get from a 5 star resort combined with a great spa and, for sure, an above average, even for 5 stars, apartments. My final recommendation is that if you have children or like big rooms choose and aptm instead of staying at a hotel room. They are even more luxurious than the rooms at Hilton hotel. On the minus side, it is difficult to find one, but the kid´s club, where we left our kids for about 2 hours while we were enjoying the spa, altough inpired confidence when looking at security and personnel are a bit over priced (around 20€ for 2 hours). It is basically the same price that they charge for a full day. In did a great pre-summer experience!"

"We stayed at As Cascatas Hotel Apartamento for 3 nights end of April 2009 having booked through Expedia at a reasonable rate. On arriving we realized what a bargain we had. The Apartments are AMAZING!!!!.....We had a one bed, which had a fully fitted very modern kitchen with everything microwave, oven, washing machine, dishwasher and T.V. Gorgeous bedroom with most comfy bed. Bathroom was fantastic with spa bath and in-built audio/radio in every room. Lounge had sofa bed and massive plasma T.V. and dining table There were also 2 patios....Only problem was we wanted to live there!!! Full use of the Hilton hotel facilities including fully loaded gym all 4 pools with towels....And our favorite facility which we totally abused was the hotel spa 7.... which if staying at the resort can use for FREE!!!!...can't recommend the spa enough perfect!! with the biggest jacuzzi pool I have ever seen!!...Total pampering experience. Eat at the pool restaurant, bar "Rubi" and main restaurant all lovely but bit pricey? Breakfast was included at the Hilton and it was awesome something for everyone!! can fill up all day with it. The Hotel staff could not be anymore attentive. There is a shuttle bus available from 7-9 pm taking guest into Vilamoura or otherwise taxi is about 5 euros or even a lovely 20 minute walk. Overall had a fantastic time."

"We stayed at As Cascactas in early March 2009. It could not have been better – 5 star service, use of the Hilton Hotel, friendly staff, and exceptional facilities. There are none better in the whole Algarve - this is really 5 star !! We are not interested in golf and the beach is a 20-minute walk away so we think a car is essential. Food and Stuff Some local restaurants will pick you up at no cost so if your on a short break then you can do with out. Plenty of Michelin star restaurants but much cheaper than back home - €150 for 2 with good wine. This is a land of contrasts , As Cascatas is 200 yrds walk to Willie’s (Michelin star 2) , next door to Willies is Frankies where you can get a beer and pittza for €8 !!) Use of Hilton hotel was great - great pub - Ruby - bit pricey 2 restuarants - one was Brasilian - OK but dont really like that food style Other large restuarant was brilliant - do themed nights and are great value very proffessional staff Room facilities Bedrooms – Roomy Kitchen - every thing you want Lounge - TV , DVD -- drinks trolley ..... Oh boy Other facilities – everything en suite , well stocked fridge (be careful of price - cheaper in local store) Overall We will definitely be back http://www.ascascatasvilamoura.com/index/lng/EN"

"We just returned from the As Cascatas apartments after a 3 night stay, we found them after we checked out of a self catering Villa disaster. The reception chap Carlos was a gem and is a credit to the Company, he could not have been more helpful when I found the place. Great decor what space in the 1 bedroom apartment. great TVs in the living room, bedroom and the superb fitted kitchen. This is the way it should be when you are away on a break or holiday. The breakfast in the Hilton Hotel was super and we will no doubt be back again in the Autum."
