"We stayed at the Vau Hotel from 29th March to 2nd April, our stay was cut short & we were moved to a different hotel for the rest of our stay.
We booked & paid for a 1 bedroomed apartment with Jet2. We got to our room and spent a good minute trying to get in as the key card lock was faulty. This happened everytime we wanted to get back in the room. The apartment was very dated & not of a 4* standard as stated on the Jet2 website. The cupboard door in the kitchen was bashed in & hanging off, there was a mouldy plate & plug in the bathroom, the furniture had seen better days with chips & scuffs on them. We were led to believe by the jet2 website that the hotel had been recently refurbished & we would feel like we were walking into a new hotel. This was certainly not the case. On entering the apartment, we noticed that we didn't have a very nice view, in fact the view was of a carpark & every morning the balcony had a very unpleasant smell. We also didnt have sunbeds as it stated on the jet2 website for one bedroomed apartments only. We approached the staff at reception as requested a different room & view but was told all the rooms with the nice views were for people in groups of 6, & we were only 2. They also didnt know anything about sunbeds on the balcony.
The first evening we decided to have food out & take our minds off what would be a very upsetting stay so i called reception to pick up an iron only to be told they do not allow irons. I went to reception to question them further as i would have even paid for one but was dismissed & to have a head shaken at us. We were dismissed twice so we didn't feel we could approach the reception staff anymore. We rang the Jet2 helpline & scheduled an appointment. Unfortunately due to the holidays, we could only see someone on the Saturday. We made an official complaint & were shown to a different room which had a very unpleasant smell in it when we walked in & the kitchen was again in an unfit state. They failed to deliver on two rooms & said they had no more rooms to offer us so we had no choice but to request a transfer. Again due to the holidays we would have to wait until Monday for the request to go through which was upsetting as we had to spend another 2 nights here. We eventually moved Monday afternoon but had to pay extra. This was unavoidable but a disappointment. It was the best decision as we got moved to the pestana alvor park & we finally felt we was on holiday in a 4* accommodation like we paid for.
We would never have picked Vau Hotel if it hadn't said newly refurbished with sunbeds in one bedroomed apartments on the website. We were misled & this was falsely advertised.
We would never return to the Vau Hotel & would suggest anyone looking at it not to. Please do not take that risk, they ruined half of our holiday."
