54 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"Have just returned from a wonderful weeks holiday staying at the Plaza Real and could not fault it at all. Location is perfect for a quieter holiday but you are only approximately 20 minutes from the beach, shops and restaurants. Immaculately clean and spacious, with staff who are second to none! Especially Gaspor and the Chef who made our holiday extra special. Having read an earlier review on here i was a little worried but shouldn't have been. All the windows are fitted with security screens and there is a very secure lock on the door so both myself and my mum felt extremely safe. Would definitely recommend this to family and friends and will be making another visit in the future"

no forced entry, safe smashed open contents taken, made complaint and thrown out
"this review is shocking and unbelievable but VERY REAL !!!!! paid 3500 pounds for a 10 day family of 5 trip to the above resort booked through co-op travelcare , 1st impressions were good ,until day 4 while we were lying by the pool at approx 11.30 am , someone got into our room with no apparent forced entry , the safe was forcefully removed from the wall , smashed open with tools 1800 euro cash taken ,5 passports return travel documents and my partners purse containing credit debit cards , driving license etc. at first the hotel were quite helpful, the called the police who took approx 25 mins to arrive they took statements and forensics etc. the hotel then took us to british consulate to get temporary passports they cost 580 euro, they also advised us to make a complaint in the hotel complaint book, when we approached the manager to ask about safe insurance, cctv footage and the complaint book ,her attitude changed she told us we had caused her nothing but hassle for the last 3 days, she was not concerned about us as paying customers and were now victims of crime , the manager then phoned the police and got us removed from the premises !!! TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE !!! we had to book further accomodation which cost 260 pounds and my partners brother had to send us 1500 pounds over to survive the rest of our hoilday from hell. the stress and hassle has left us all emotionally drained and our holiday was a disaster . anyone who thinks this treatment is normal then stay here if u dare !! my advice is avoid at all costs , we looked at trip advisor and this site to rate the hotel before we travelled and it looked pretty good ,but if u look back this has happened before but the hotel told us it was the first time it had happened . this is a very real experience we had and not very pleasant and would hate it to happen to anyone else "

entire contents of safe stolen,no forced entry, then made a complaint and thrown out
"paid £3500 for hoilday for a family of 5 , 1st impressions very good rooms massive and well equipped , what happened on day 4 was unreal and completely true , the room had an intruder at approx 11.30 am while my partner and i was at the pool and kids at the beach they are aged 15,16,18 , i found this out when i went up to the room at approx 11.45am the safe had been forced off the wall and smashed open, the room had no apparent forced entry, we lost 1800 euro cash,5 passports all travel documents and my partners purse with debit credit and driving license inside . at first the hotel where helpful they phoned the police who arrived 25 mins later who took statements fingerprints and photos etc. we had to go to the british consulate and buy 5 temporary passports which cost 580 euro ,the consulate advised us to ask the hotel about the safe insurance and to file a complaint in the hotel complaint book. when we approched the manager and asked her these questions what came next was the biggest shock of all she told us we had came her to cause her trouble and other guests where telling her they felt a bit unsafe after what had happened to us and she had been very stressed cause she was getting hassled and it was our fault cause we warned a few people we had met and to b careful.the manager then phoned the police who arrived 5 mins later and we where told to leave the hotel cause we had broken the rules ??? unreal we then had to get another hotel and pay a further 260 euros plus a transfer, we also had to get £1500 sent over from home to survive the rest of our holiday from hell. we did get to fill in the complaint form and we will b sending it to the relative authorities "

Burgled, Abused by staff an then thrown out, DISGRACEFUL......
"We were in our apartment for 2 days when our apartment was burgled and the safe was pulled off the wall an crowbarred open. Not only did we loose a lot of money but our passports an travel documents. The British consulate were able to help us but a few days later the manager verbally attacked us when we returned to the apartment. They refused to show us the CCTV an then refused to place it in the incident book. Our insurance company asked us to ensure this was completed and the staff refused. The next day they called the police and had us thrown out of the complex as we had breached their confidentiality by discussing the burglary with other people we had meet up with on holiday.... The police told us they didn't agree with what was happening but we couldn't stay if they wanted us out. THEY THREW 2 ADULTS AND 3 KIDS OUT BECAUSE WE TOLD OUR FRIENDS WE'D BEEN BURGLED! this is the truth, unbelieveable I know but it happened. It's blatantly obvious the only thing they were interested in was keeping this quiet. They have failed believe me. Be warned your safety and security are at risk with such an attitude. Instead of helping us they threw us into the street like criminals."

"We had a 2 bedroom apartment which was massive, very clean and nicely decorated. Staff are very friendly, food was lovely and i have fussy children who loved it also. Kids club was good but not on all the time, Only thing was the pool being a bit small but the kids very happy with it. Beach is beautiful. Drinks are a little cheaper in the bars outside the hotel. Defo go to portimao and eat at the brazilian restaurant, food is amazing and the staff very friendly and great with the kids. "

Great Hotel, Great Holiday!!
"Don't know what was with all the bad reviews, stayed here for 2 weeks and didn't have a single problem, the beach isn't far, neither is the massive cheap supermarket. People don't half exaggerate! The 2 bedroom apartments are massive inside and there is a bath with a shower and a stand up walk in shower, which makes it easier and quicker so 2 people can shower at the same time. The pool isn't huge but it's big enough to cool down in when you get to hot and is a reasonable size. The entertainment is o.k but you can go down to the main strip and come back to the apartments as it starts. The bar area isn't that dear either for food, although cans are 2.50 and only 69 or 79 cents around the corner! I stayed with my boyfriend and his family and had a great time. If you have already booked then I would be looking forward to it if I was you :-)& I would definatley go back in the future."

Worth the walk.
"Stayed here in June 2011. Apartments were big and clean. Bar prices though were expensive as were the snack bar prices. Thomson rep was very Helpful and couldnt really do enough for you. Pool was adequate, but the usual thoughtless people would grab the towels, put them on loungers, then dissapear for a few hours. On the whole though, a very good place to stay, out of Praia da roche a bit, but a ten minute walk and you were there."

great value for money
"Just returned from a week here. I have travelled all around the world for the past 15 years staying in places from 2 dollar backpackers to 5 star hotels. I have stayed in well over 100 hotels and this is the best value for money hotel I have stayed in. I had a ground floor apartment which was massive as mention in other reviews. The towels are only changed once a week, but so what? The beach is a 10-15 min walk, big deal... It's so easy to be negative but I can't with this hotel. If you are reading this review then you are planning to stay here or have already booked. Well you have made a great choice or are about to.. Go for it, you wont regret staying here... Read all the other reviews cos all the nice things written are true, just ignore all the negative stuff cos as you will notice it is all petty. Oh yeah, the beach is awesome, especially at low tide."

"Stayed in Plaza real Hotel at the start of September. The rooms were clean and spaceous and the view from the balcany was great. There where no shops onsite, the shop 2 mins away was rubbish and was expensive, so the cheapest and nearest shop was 30 mins away if you dont mind walking , you can get a taxi wich was only 4 euros. The reastrount onsite was very expensive but if you dont mind walking to the beach wich is only 10 mins away you can get a pint of larger fo 1 euro. The jeep safari was fantasic but not for the faint heartied ,its a way to really explore the Algarve contry side .Overall the holiday was one we will never forgett.x "

Great Apartments but be careful!
"Just returned back from a short stay at the Plaza Real. Would agree with other posts that the apartments are great, but a word of warning! On the last night our apartment was broken into, we are assuming someone climbed up on to the balcony (we are on the 1st floor - not the ground!), whilst we were sleeping. Balcony door was locked so not sure how it was opened, someone was in the room where a 7 year old child was sleeping! Wallet / money / mobile taken, thank god nothing else. Block C is open at the back to a large open space, nobody would see someone breaking into the apartments."
