We have just returned from jardin do vau...
"We have just returned from jardin do vau for the the third time. We hight recommend the hotel for families and single people also. All the nightspots are just a short taxi ride or walk away. The hotel itself has everything you could ask for on holiday, on the beach, beautiful pool area, lovely spacious apartments with sea views and some with pool views. All apartments have air con except the ones in block A. We availed or the daily towel service for the pool/beach we found this to be marvelous to have a fresh towel every day. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. Everything at your fingertips. I you decide to go you will certainly not be disappointed as we have met people there that have been returning year after year and have no plans to change destination"

Great pool & beach
"Stayed for two nights at the Jardim do Vau in April 2005. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the kitchen is well appointed, with dishwasher, microwave etc. Very clean appliances. Large balconies. Despite being an apartment complex, the on site restaurant was very good value for money and the food was excellent. Try the pork fillets! The pool was of a good size and there was a pool bar and a beach bar. The magnificent, clean, white sandy beach is right outside the property. The busier resort of Praia Da Rocha is literally a two minute cab ride away, as is the more subtle charms of the resort of Alvor. A superb property which I hope to stay at again very soon."

Great Family Hotel
"Just returned from 2 weeks in the Algarve area. My husband, my son (2 year old) and I stayed at this hotel. It's a good hotel for family stays. We brought a portable DVD which saved us, since our son would have missed his Thomas train and Blues Clues. As far as European standards go, the hotel was a 3 star with springy beds. It has a full kitchen, the hotel has a mini-market opened 8:30-6:30 - which stocks all the main necessities (and also has fresh bread delivered daily), and is conveniently located by the praia do vau beach. Because of its location, you can just walk down to the beach, which is not as busy, less dirty with litter, etc as the other more famous beach, like the Rocha beach. The nice thing about the hotel, is you just walk down the stairs, and the beach is right there. You could then go back to your hotel room to make lunch, or order lunch from the restaurants on the beach or the hotel. The swim pools (indoor and outdoor) are nice. They clean everyday, but only change sheets twice weekly. I would recommend renting a car, since the hotel is not that close to the city center of Portimao, maybe 20 minutes walking distance? (This is not a criticism, since the other hotels were not that close to the city plus they had zero to minimal direct access to the beach - ie you had to walk a distance or drive to get to the beach). The car lets you explore the Algarve area, unless you just want to veg on the beach. Portimao was a perfect place to explore all the cities of the Algarve. Portimao has the right mix of beach, shopping, exploring and restaurants, but everyday we went driving to different little cities as well. The hotel staff is terrific. Very accommodating. We arrived at 8 am, and they had our room ready for us. We also booked a good day-trip to Lisbon at the front desk. Overall, a good hotel, especially when travelling with a toddler."
