"We have stayed in Vilabranca a number of times over the last few years. Cleanliness was poor this time. The cleaning staff has been cut and cleaning does not appear to be checked. The staff are fab and will do anything for you. Please do something to inprove cleaning. I could not recommend as things are. more

As a family with 2 children one 10 year...
"As a family with 2 children one 10 year old and a teenager we have been here twice, as we found it so lovely. Met another family there that has been going every year for the past 9 years - which says something. first time we visited we booked with a travel agent but second time booked with vilabranca and got a few extras in the apartment like DVD player and washing machine etc.
The 2 bed apartments are very spacious and clean. The master bedroom especially big. Both times we had a balcony looking over the pool which was very pleasant
There are two pools an older one and a new one which has a bar. The new one is salt water and we found was quite cold. We preferred the old pool near the resturant, and kept us entertained with playing games of pool. The sign says no drinks or food and no inflatables but people ignore it and the staff shouldn't say anything to you.
The restuarant is quite over priced but is ok for drinks, snacks and icecreams but wouldn't recommend for meals. The resturants in lagos are great - i would recommend the dutch resturant which is down a little alley , it is quite expensive but is worth it because the food is delicious.
Staff very freindly and there is a minibus which is free and will run you down to the town or the beach and then back again. Although goes quite early in the evening. There is a couple of small supermarkets across the road from the apartments which we used to stock up on things and then a larger supermarket nearer the town- pingo.
Both times we booked a visit to Slide and Splash which is a massive water park and is a brilliant day out and far better then any other attraction in algarve.
I would fully recommend hiring a car, it makes life so much more easier on holiday- pick it up at the airport and then you don't have to get a taxi back. Visiting the big supermarket with a car is so much better as you don't have to keep going back and forth to the shops. It is also good if you want to visit attractions or the beach. They have a car park so it is easy to park it.
Overall this apartment is a brilliant retreat, recommend it to everyone. Lagos is a brilliant town and i would be very willing to go back for the third time."

Just come back from Vilabranca Apartment...
"Just come back from Vilabranca Apartments in Lagos, Portugal with the family. As first timers to Portugal we were not sure what to expect, apart from reading a few reviews of the apartments we didn't do too much research on the resort (mistake I know!). We had a one bedroom/bath-roomed apartment and it was well equipped, large rooms, very clean and maid service most days. Two nice sized pools that were a bit on the cold side and watch out for the ârip offâ prices for soft drinks poolside (2.3 Euro for a tin of 7Up) and the notices saying no food or drink from outside to be brought in â didnât seem to stop most people though!
There is a small restaurant and bar in the complex, only used this once on the first night - menu somewhat limited, bit expensive and poor quality food. Many great local restaurants in Lagos town and a few en route and all provided far better value.
Taxis are quite cheap if you donât fancy the walk home from town with fares varying between 3.8 and 4.7 euros but the apartments provide a courtesy bus three or four times a day.
Many things to see and do in the area including the dolphin safaris (shop about the touts on the riverside particularly if last minute and you will get a better deal â then just hang on for a fast boat ride and the dolphins were non stop once offshore), great beaches (closest was just past the fire station near the old harbour), local zoo (taxi or car needed though), grotto and cave boat trips and all the other usual excursions you would expect from a resort holiday.
Had a wonderful time and the weather was pleasantly warm for October, up to 27c, locals all very friendly, no time-share or holiday club scams noticed and we would definitely have no trouble recommending the resort or apartments.

Great apartments highly recommended. Ver...
"Great apartments highly recommended. Very large and well equipped. Staff very friendly. 20 min walk to Lagos town.
Only drawback was that our 3 boys 10, 11 and 14 got a bit bored as not much to do around the apartments during the day.
Great restaurants in the town all very cheap. We like OS Doutoros, which is really cheap and has great fish dishes. Seems a lot of Portuguese holiday here and thatâs why the prices are cheaper than other parts of the Algarve.
Don't miss a visit to slide & splash. Itâs a great family day out."

Just returned from one week at Vilabranc...
"Just returned from one week at Vilabranca (Family of four with two teenagers) and am already contemplating a return visit. The apartments are, as all other reviewers have commentated, spacious and clean.
We stayed in a two bedroom/ two bathroom apartment with a large living room and a balcony which extended the length of the apartment and was furnished with seating, a table and a parasol.
The public areas are carefully tended and all staff are pleasant and helpful. The mini bus is very convenient and ferries you to either the beach or the town at various times during the day and early evening. The bus driver is courteous and the service is free. Nevertheless, if you are obliged to take a taxi the fare is only 3 euro 80.
We booked Zoomarine at reception (a great day out, don't miss the 4D cinema or the clowns and do not be tempted to lug a picnic with you as the food is of a good standard and very reasonable).
A stay at the Vilabranca is a trouble free, relaxing holiday. We stayed by the smaller pool and the pool area is quiet (no music blasting from bar speakers) and the pool, the toilets and the poolside area is kept scrupulously clean.
Lagos is cobbled so walking in any kind of a heel is ill advised. If you want to eat where the Portuguese do I can recommend the 'Simply Lagos' website which is managed by a couple who own one of the apartments. Their recommendations complete with maps and lots of other interesting details of walks and trips, added to our enjoyment of an excellent holiday. "

These apartments are modern, clean, and...
"These apartments are modern, clean, and spacious. The maid service is prompt and discreet, the restaurant and pool bar staff polite and efficient, and the reception staff were very helpful.
The two pools are large and clean, and the sunbeds were washed frequently (something I've never witnessed on a holiday before).
There is a supermarket almost directly across the road from the apartments which sells fresh bread and fruit amongst other things.
The location (in a residential area) means that the beach and town are a short walk away (maybe 15 minutes each - both downhill there and uphill back, not in the same direction as each other) but the apartments are very quiet which was lovely. Vilabranca lies on a courtesy bus to both the nearest beach and to the town about 4 times a day (each way).
Lagos itself has some delicious restaurants and plenty of bars to choose from. Although you are invited into bars and restaurants by staff they're never pushy. I must recommend the oven baked chicken piri-piri which was absolutely delicious. (Sorry can't remember the name of the restaurant I ate that in but it's a popular local dish so no doubt you'll find it).
I recommend both the resort and these apartments with only one word of warning; if you've never been to the Algarve before note that the wind that comes off the Atlantic is much stronger than you get in the Med and can make both sunbathing and paddling tricky on blustery days."

A wonderful week at Vilabranca
"We have just returned from our first visit to Vilabranca, and it completely lived up to its reputation. Excellent, clean, spacious apartment with a small balcony. A very efficient air conditioning system, which was greatly appreciated with temperatures in the mid to late thirties!
Really enjoyed the pool, open from 8am to 8pm, and never too crowded, even in the middle of the day. Nice little shallow pool for kids too.
There is a small supermarket at the gates of the complex which provided everything we needed for breakfast.
In the evenings we usually walked into the old town for a meal (10-15 mins), and then got a taxi back up the hill again. Plenty of excellent places to eat, lots around the main streets of the old town where you can indulge in great people-watching, and some hidden treasures that we located thanks to the free map provided by Vilbranca. Wonderful food (excellent selection of fresh fish) and wine. Enjoyed the odd glass of vinho verde in the afternoon too - such a refreshing drink on a hot day. There's a great German bakery too (also on the free map) for a mid-morning coffee and some divine cake.
We were there for a really relaxing week, and never felt the need to hire a car and go further afield (although we may have done if we had been staying longer). Apart from a trip to one of the gorgeous beaches and a boat trip to see dolphins (no dolphins, but the boat trip was thrilling anyway), there was plenty in Lagos itself to keep us entertained.
I would thoroughly recommend Vilabranca Apartments if you want a peaceful and relaxing holiday - we found the whole experience to be stress-free and both felt about ten years younger coming home than we did when we arrived."

Our family of 4 had a fantastic, relaxin...
"Our family of 4 had a fantastic, relaxing holiday in the Vilabranca in August 2006. The apartments were superb - really clean, comfortable, quiet. The staff at the reception desk were very friendly and helpful.
The cleaning staff were also excellent. I loved the whole layout of the apartment complex, especially the two pools which meant there was never over-crowding or a problem getting a sun-bed like in other places. Lagos itself was a lovely walk into town.
The walk home, uphill, could be a bit much but the taxi service is so cheap. I have been in the Algarve 4 times and I love it. We love the beaches and the Atlantic breeze but Lagos and the Vilabranca apartments has been our favourite place by far. Well done - top marks!

Perfect self catering appartments
"I stayed here in June '06 with 2 friends for one week. We wanted a laid back self catering appartment and this place was perfect. When we initially arrived we were put into one appartment where we unfortunately found a mouse in the kitchen. This isn't that supprising given the gardens surrounding the complex. We were moved to a new appartment without question and throughout our stay the whole place was kept spotlessly clean (there are cleaners who come in on a daily basis.) This certainly wouldn't put me off staying here again.
Our appartment had one bedroom with twin beds and lots of storage space, and a camp bed in the living room (apparently comfortable). Presumably there are larger appartments for bigger groups. The appartment was very spacious with a big bathroom and lounge, a very well equipped kitchen and a nice sunny terrace with patio furniture. There are two nice swiming pools which were set into the gardens and surrounded by plenty of sun loungers. There is a bar in the complex but we didn't try it. Directly opposite the entrance to the complex is a small, well stocked grocers but for a bigger shop, a large supermarket was a 5 minute drive away.
Vilabranca is an easy 15 minute walk outside the centry of Lagos in a residential part of town which might not suit everyone but it made it very peaceful. I could imagine that in the school holidays this place gets full of families as it would be perfect for children. However in June it was quiet and ideal for us (in our 20s). A car is essential. Lagos is a lively touristy town with lots of bars and restaurants but without the "Brits abroad" feel of other parts of the Algarve. There are plenty of extremely pretty, clean beaches nearby (both surfy and sheltered) and I would definitely return to this part of Portugal. And stay at the Vilabranca Appartments."

Brilliant - again.
"We are just back from two weeks at the Vilabranca for the second year running. Having been so impressed with this place last year we naturally were a bit concerned that it wouldn't seem quite the same on return. We needn't have worried - everything was faultless. While last year we travelled through a tour company this year we booked independently and, apart from a heartstopping moment when it seemed our reservation had not been recorded (after a couple of emails this was sorted with the minimum of fuss), everything was faultless. Our two-bedroomed apartment overlooked one of the pools - just as we had requested; the cleanliness of the entire property including all the common areas is commendable; all of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful; and best of all, the children - at 15 and 12 years old typically hard to please - couldn't be prised away from the complex!
This is a totally family orientated place - and seems to appeal to all ages. There is a little bit of entertainment in the bar a couple of nights a week (karaoke/bingo - mainly for the kids) and the place is compact enough for parents to be able to enjoy a drink while the children "hang out" with new friends. Also, because the Vilabranca is situated in a mainly residential area of Lagos - although 10 minutes walks you into the centre - there is little to disrupt a good night's sleep!
We really could not say anything negative about the Vilabranca - and it speaks for itself the number of people staying over the same period as us who were there for the third and fourth time.
We will hopefully make it a hat trick too!"
