Really nice rooms, a few problems however
"I really loved the rooms, the AC in both rooms was great. The staff were ultra friendly on reception and even in the snack bar. The rooms were comfortable, well stocked with pots and pans and generally everything you could ever need for a holiday.
A summary of good things:
- Great rooms
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Really lovely pool
- Great indoor facilities such as gym and pool
- Games room
- A large area for the pool, so no fighting for loungers. I loved the loungers which had the sun blockers so you could read without squinting.
- Complimentary glass of Port on arrival.
- Proximity to Lagos town centre
A summary of bad things:
- 5 Euros to use the laundry and that's just for a wash!! 7.50 for a wash and dry.
- Area is very safe, but not much there, it's a little quiet, and although Lagos is very close in walking proximity, the area needs a bit of a clean and restore.
- Building work, our room lost electricity a couple times because of this and it wasn't exactly relaxing whilst by the pool.
- Also, the pool has speakers all round and you have to listen to the local radio for the whole day and sometimes they put on the most annoying music tapes too. It was quite loud at some points.
- There is a "seagul poo alley" as I called it. They are everywhere so watch out!
- The snack bar was about average and the BBQ food at 15 Euros each was not worth it, it's just a buffet.
I would say you would also need a car because the local supermarket is extortionate. My boyfriend and I walked to InterMarche for cheaper prices and got a 4 Euro taxi back.
All in all, a good place to stay but with a few major glitches."

"Just come back from a weeks hoilday here, had a fab time! Lovely room all with pool view.Hotel staff friendly pool area really clean and well kept ,a lovely area with sunbed, no puting your towel out here at the crack of dawn! Booked breakfast, lovely sat on terrace, really chilled out atmosphere. The snack bar had nice food. Lagos had a buzzing atmophere at night, lots of things going on in the square and plenty of places to have a drink. Lagos also had a marina which was nice but could of done with some nice restaurants. Would recommend this hotel to anyboby and would definitly vist again."

It's a great place!
"This is probably the newest, largest, cleanest and most well equipped apartment we have ever stayed in. Room controlled air-con in bedroom and living area was great, plus helped to drown out occasional noise made from the odd seagul in the early hours! We were even provided with tea towel, washing-up liquid and sponge in kitchen, I've never had that before!
The pool area was lovely, especially the decked areas, plenty of loungers at any time of the day. The pool was very clean and refreshing! Pool bar served reasonably priced drinks and snacks.
Excellent location, 10 mins walk into the Old Town of Lagos, which isn't that hilly!! Where there are lots of lovely restaurants and bars.
10 mins walk to the beautiful Praia d'Ana beach and well worth the 30 min amble through the old town and marina to get to the long vast Meia Praia beach.
Would definitely recommend the Aqualuz!"

Loved the Aqualuz
"Had a great time at the Aqualuz. I think it was renovated in the last year or so and they have done a great job. The pool area is really nice with loads of loungers. The snack bar is very reasonable and the staff are very nice and will chat away with very good English. The games room has a couple of pool tables, table tennis and video games. The hotel was very quiet while i was there which is a shame for such a nice hotel. The spa and gym are really nice as well. The town centre is about a 10 min walk away along the beach and downhill. Got a taxi back for 3.50 euro to avoid the hill. Lagos itself is really nice with loads of great bars and restaurants.
All in all, it was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay."

Nice Stay at Aqualuz
"Arrived on a Saturday afternoon. Simple check in, receptionist spoke little English but enough to get our points across.
Courtyard/Pool area very nice. 2 large pools, one for kids and the other for adults.
Rm 264 very nice, modern and spacious. It was a comfortable stay, wish we had more time.
Bar made good drinks and decently priced.
Walk to city center was a little more than 10 min but it is doable, wear comfortable shoes. Beach was about a 10 minute drive, we went to the beach down the street from the Marina."

My wife and I have been to this location...
"My wife and I have been to this location every year since 1998.
We have always stayed at the Aqualuz except when the complex was closed in 2006 & 2007 for the major renovation. The old complex was good but the present one is just superb.
On the first few visits we booked through a package holiday but later we started to book direct. We have always found the staff in the reception and the bar and snack bar very good. It semed that they went out of their way to get to know the customers and always did everything to help. This was a big factor when we first came to Aqualuz and was a major reason why we returned. We have been there in May, Aug/Sept and even in Dec. August is very busy as this is the main Portuguese holiday time.
We have been there in total 14 times and will continue to return again in Sept.
We can strongly recommend this seperb accommadation to any person who wants to enjoy a nice stress free. holiday. It has the advantage of being close to the centre of Lagos yet quiet at night. "

lovely when the weather is hot!
"We visited this hotel for 11 nights in the hotel largest suite with the kitchen. We visited out of season - there was a max of 5 rooms occupied at any one time during our stay and the hotel has over 500 rooms! The hotel was scarily quiet and the restraunt and so called 'Irish Bar' were too. All the hotel staff were friendly, helpful and chatty.
This isn't to be said for the rather rude fitness club reception staff. The fitness club (2 indoor pools, gym etc) is separate to the hotel but you are allowed to use it once a day with a pass form the hotel reception staff. Me and my husband found the fitness club to be quite snooty and the reception staff escpecially rude and unhelpful. We used the gym a few times and the staff working inside the gym were nice but there was no air con - far too hot to work out in! The indoor pools were nice but you have to wear a full swim suit (if you're a lady!) and swimming cap-seemed v over the top! We only went once but it seems that the local children have swimming lessons there so it was busy and noisy. Also its worth noting that the sauna/steam rooms are in the seperate male/female changing rooms.
The first week of our stay was great as the weather was good. The outdoor pool area is lovely and well thought out and the roof solarium was lovely to go to when it got a bit cooler in the afternoon (lovely view of the sea and roof tops)
The second week was overcast and cold. Our air conditioning had broken (we needed to use it for heat!) and it took 3 attempts for the maintenance people to fix it! We got so fed up with asking that we asked to move room but then found that our room was the only room in the whole hotel to have a double bed. The hob in our kitchen also broke but the 1st time we asked the reception staff if it could be fixed it was. (Don't think this was the hotels fault but the maintenance peoples) The rooms were cleaned by the cleaning ladies everyday to a high standard and they were very friendly.
We went for breakfast a few time which was very nice - served between 8-10am & 5 euros. Good value! we also used the snack bar - v good value again and good food. The restraunt was very nice inside, plenty of choice for wine and a good menu. Massive portions!!
Another nice thought was that we got served a bottle of champagne sent to our room on our first night with compliments from the manager (it was our honeymoon). The hotel really did make us feel welcome and the room was lovely (v modern)"

This hotel has just been refurbished and...
"This hotel has just been refurbished and the rooms are big, you have a balcony and they all overlook the swimming pool.
The staff are very helpful and will go out of there way for you. There is 2 outdoor pools and two indoor pools with a gym which are attached to the hotel you get a voucher then you can go it is like a fitness first they even give you towels so you donât have to take yours.
We had a meal at the hotel it was a set menu and it was 15 Euros each for a 4 course and I can say the taste was delicious. This hotel will be in the brochures this year it has a rooftop where you can sunbathe and it is lovely up there."

Loved the staff
"All of the rooms overlook the swimming pool it is a brill place to stay. You have 2 outdoor pools then you have a gym like fitness first attached to it with 2 indoor pools and all of the running machines and bikes etc, tried this once was brill was going to try again but the weather was fab so dedcided against it. We never seen the maid once i think they knew when you went out and always had it lovely for you to come back to. The reception and bar staff could not do enough for you were always polite and helpful had a meal in hotel one night it was superb. The hotel has been refurbished and it is lovely you also have on the roof a lot of sunbeds which are comfortable hope to stay in this hotel in the near future."

"Just returned from staying at the Aqualuz and we thought it was an excellent place to stay. There was no sign of any building work, the apartments were modern, very spacious (we had a 1 bed apt) and very clean! We had maid service every day including clean towels daily, at a reasonable time and we found the pool area cleaned every day too!
It was fairly quiet when we were there but personally I like it that way (no screaming children!).
We tried the snack bar once and it was quite pricey but we had no complaints about the food. However there is a restaurant literally 2 minutes around the corner and a supermarket. It was a 10 minute walk to the centre of Lagos which has a good selection of restaurants and bars.
Would definitely recommend it!"

The accom is brilliant we had a one bedroom apartment with aprox 12 foot balcony, air con and plenty of space. Nice bathroom and lounge, sky tv (flat screen). It was always kept very clean and tidy the staff where very helful and all spoke English. The beach is aprox 10 minute walk as is the main town. Have been to Albuferia and Alvor but would deffinately go back to Lagos and the Aqualuz."

aqualuz not for young kids, the only buzz was the noise from the fridge
"Just returned from an 11 night stay.
When we first arrived it was very windy and stayed so for the first 3 days and nights, too cold for us brits even. On first impression from the outside it doesn't look much like a '4 star' ? accomodation but on the way to our room we passed the pool area and things looked up for a short while. The 2-3 bed studio was large and fairly well equiped. Everything was brand new even down to the toaster. At this point we were very happy. We left our things and went to the bar for a quick drink and something to eat. The restuarant was shut (only 9ish in the evening) and the only bar was indoors and very empty. Next day went soon realised that this accomodation was under a refrubishment. We were woken around 7.30ish by builders grinding machines etc... Not to be put off by this we went for a swim with our 22mth old daughter. Soon we realised the tiered pool area which looked great was in fact very child unfriendly. Not much room from the end of the sunbed then a 3ft drop to the next level, ok for adults and older children not for babies or infants. The childrens pool had 3 steps into the water, again not very baby friendly and to add to this it was very, very cold and became deep fairly quickly. The bigger pool was even colder. One lunch time and the only time we did eat at the pool snack bar we had to send the â¬4.50 rip off burger (just a burger on a bun, no salad or fries) back to the kitchen because it was still bleeding and cold. I almost gave this to my daughter who would of eaten it not knowing it was still raw. One evening after a 15 minute wait to be served,we had to ask the reception if anyone was serving in the ghost town like empty irish bar (dark and dingy), after another 10 minutes or so finally we were served only to be lefted again waiting to be served again. The maids came everyday sometimes mid morning but mostly around 6/7pmish just when you want to get showered and get ready to out (it quickly became a pain) They never dusted anywhere given the fact of builders rumble/dust etc.. they very often bypassed the balcony area. Bird poo was evident around the pool area on the decking etc.. and no attempt was made to clean it up the whole time we stayed there. Bedding in baby's cot was changed once, even though it was obviously stained. Never found the other 2 pools (unless they were counting the gym ones indoors, if they count?) No shop on site had no water too drink had to buy from a restaurant down the down the first night, never found the childrens park, never found most of the claimed facilties, found the rooftop solarium but the only people using it was the builders!!! The only buzz about this hotel was the fridge noise which woke me up around 4am every am. It was very empty and souless. We did have a very noisy bunch of Italian OAP's staying for a couple nights (the rowdy lot) and the constant banging the fire doors through the night was begining to drive me mental. All this taken into account I don't think this place deserves 4 STARS. Having said all this and missed out lots more Lagos is a lovely place with plenty of restaurants etc... and we did have a good time."
