Where's it gone?
"We spent the first night of our honeymoon 25 years ago here - only we didn't as it turns out as they knocked the original hotel down and rebuilt in 2002. Entering the foyer it's hard to believe you are in a hotel, more like a bank or stock exchange. The rooms are very good in a modern sort of way. Service on the roof terrace is laid back to the point of indifference, definitely not 4*, the views though are nice while you wait 20 minutes for a waiter to notice you are sitting out there (twice in one afternoon!). Reception staff are more on the ball. Faro itself has come along way in 25 years - no longer a staging post but a vibrant tourist town. Don't miss (it's easy to do so - turn left outside the hotel) the old quarter of the town - totally unspoilt by commerce."

Very smart. Shame about reception.
"The Hotel Faro is in a terrific location, handy for shops, the promenade and public transport. The hotel occupies the upper floors of the building. downstairs are a bank and a couple of expensive clothes shops. It took ages to get anyone to emerge from the office behind reception to attend to us. We were left contemplating the elaborate but dead flower display on the counter, with a queue gathering behind us. Eventually someone came and we were allowed to leave our bags in a side room until the room was ready.
Our room was very modern and attractive, with a balcony. Breakfast is served on the top floor and was very good, with a fine view of storks nesting in the city rooftops.
On checking-out, four days later we were back contemplating the same withered flowers at reception. This time the same young man on duty was occupied with removing a staple from a sheet of paper as the queue lengthened.
The Hotel Faro offers superior accommodation at a very acceptable price, but it really needs to sort out its reception and allow guests to check in and out without unnecessary delay."

Faro Hotel, Faro Portugal.
"Cracking hotel. we boooked this last minute through Expedia, and only because it had had such good reports on Tripadvisor. The reviews were bang on and I would have no qualms recommending the hotel to anyone. The rooms are clean and bright and the breakfast is first class. Book it, you won't regret it. I would advise you to avoid a supermarket at the back of the hotel though. It is called the Supermercado Rui Garrafeira, it's opposite the newspaper stand. The wine bottles have been stood up for years and the corks have dried out, the wine has "corked" and when you take the wine back he says that he is not interested, so no refund. Buy at a proper wine retailers or wait until you get to the airport."

"This hotel is very easy to get to from Faro airport. There is a bus which takes about 15-20 minutes and stops outside the bus station which is close to the hotel. If you drive there is an underground car park which you have to pay extra for.
The reception is clean and the staff were pleasant making check-in very easy. When you step out of the lift you may be surprised to see cream coloured carpets in the corridors - not the ideal choice to keep the place looking clean! The rooms have the same carpet so look a little shabby despite being clean and modern. The room we had was average size but with a comfortable large bed, TV, minibar, hairdryer, air con./heating and open clothes hanging space. The bathroom was very clean and a good size and we had a balcony area which got the sun, but had a view of rooftops.
For a panoramic view of the Marina area you can go to the bar/restaurant on the 4th floor. We did not eat dinner here but the breakfast was very good - a buffet with hot and cold food, fresh fruit and cereal. The location is great for exploring Faro and there are lots of restaurants and bars in the close vicinity which serve excellent local food at low cost. There are also lots of shops and buildings of historical interest.

"You can get to the Faro hotel very easily by bus from the airport for 11/2euros. The bus stops beside the bus station in the centre of Faro and the hotel is across the road overlooking the Marina. If you go by car there is an underground car park which you pay extra for.
The reception area is clean and the staff were pleasant. Our room was ready even though we checked in at 1130am. Once you get out of the lift it is a surprise to see cream coloured carpets on the floors in the corridors - not the best colour as you can imagine! The cream carpet is also in the room so it looked a little grubby as every stain shows up, even though it looked as if it had been cleaned. The room was average size but the large bed was very comfortable and there was a TV, mini bar (quite reasonable prices) and air conditioning/heating. The bathroom was a good size and very clean. Plenty of good quality towels were provided. We had a good sized balcony which got the sun but the view was of rooftops. However you get a panoramic view from the restaurant on the 4th floor of the Marina area. We did not eat dinner here as there are lots of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. We did have breakfast which was very good - fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, bread and buns, ham, cheese, smoked salmon, tomatoes and hot food - eggs, sausages and bacon. Check out was also very quick and easy.
This is a good standard of city hotel which is in a great location for exploring Faro and has easy connections to the airport.(15 mins on the bus)"

"An excellent hotel in a wonderful, central location, overlooking Faro's delightful marina and just minutesâ walk from the bus station, railway station, a host of top-clas shops and restaurants and even a playground for youngsters. Our late arrival and request for an extra bed for our four-year-old were handled efficiently, as were our reqests for a plug for our bath and extra pillows. The breakfast, served in the top-flooor restaurant, was sumptuous, with one of the best buffet selections I have ever seen. This hotel is just 10 minutes from the airport and Faro is a delightful city. I would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here."

"I cant remember ever having to wait so long to check into a hotel, however the reception team definetly made up for it by allowing us to leave our bags behind the desk after checking out and picking them up later that night before heading to the airport.
In the center of town over looking the harbour, this hotel cant be beat for location. This is a modern hotel with clean spacious rooms. Unlike some of the more touristy hotels in Portugual, you cant bring food/drinks into the hotel. There are little facilities with no pool or gym. Breakfast was good with a varied selection, it is served on the rooftop which provides great views.
What you get for your money is a modern clean spacious hotel,
a bed and breakfast. What you dont get is charm or somewhere that you will spend anytime during the day by a pool or hotel bar.
This hotel is a bit like Faro itself, smart yet lacking the atmosphere found in some of the other parts of portugual. Maybe its more lively when the students are back.
If you want to save a euro or two the hotel is about 200m from the bus station, which costs about 1.5 euros to the airport."

4 star living
"Spent 5 nights at the 4 star Hotel Faro, in Sept 2006, and 4 Star it was, although a "standard" non smoking room, it was very large, with flat screen panasonic TV, (many English speaking channels) and a wonderful bathroom, double sinks, full size bath with a fantastic power shower, kept extremely clean and fresh, the Air con is fully adjustable and essential.
Having breakfast in the open air, in the roof top restaurant overlooking the marina, was just the best way to start the day, and such choice.
Faro Town itself was a delight, (finding at the time the English pound quite strong, £ = 1.40e, so it all seemed very cheap),and a very different lifestyle, with café culture going on late into the warm night, We explored the area by bus and train, without the slightest problem, would certainly recommend visiting the town of Tavira, along the coast we used the train.
A bus is required to reach the beach, unless of course you have a hire car!, a 14 or 16 from outside the hotel Eva, 20 Min's travelling through the local area, with the local people, great stuff ...."

"The location of the hotel cannot be beaten. Right on the waterfront overlooking the harbour and within minutes walk of many restaurants and shopping area.
Taxi from airport to hotel costs about 8 Euro and is only a short drive away. The breakfast served was also good with a choice of cereals, fruit, fries and pastries. Good clean rooms with spacious bathrooms which were promtly cleaned every day.
I would use this hotel again when in Faro."

Rooms clean and bright."

"Position of hotel central, handy for bus and rail travel. Near the marina and local bars and shopping. We were in a room that was noisy during the night from outside, but asked to change rooms and was given a very quiet room. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Did not seem a great deal of choice of hotels in Faro."
