"Apartment very basic in need of update, was clean but maids only came in every other day.bed linen was only changed once, towels were every 3 days. The pool was a joke, opened at different times every morning you had to queue every morning and there wasn't enough beds, parasols, mats to go round...pool was cleaned but not the pool area, very bad blocked drains which were green disgusting, smelly, talk about contamination? also bird droppings honestly a joke i certainly would not go back near this place!!!! Alvor is beautiful but these Apartments are a no go and wont ever go back, even talking to people who have been there before all said it has changed so much and they wouldn't return......"

3 star not 5!!
"If you go to Club Alvorferias expecting 5 star you will be disappointed. It is a 3 star establishment and very basic. I stayed ten nights in a one bed apt. with my wife and two teenage kids. The beds were fine and they supplied an extra mattress for the fold up bed.The cleaners came in about 4 times over ten days and the staff were reasonably pleasant and helpful. The layout of the place means it is not very quiet....our apt. was above an office and people came and went all day banging the door. We had people above and on both sides and the whole place only goes really quiet at about 1a.m. Facilities are basic....on the first night we ran out of hot water which is supplied by a tiny boiler...you have to wait half an hour for it to warm back up. So to sum up.., basic, quite noisy but very clean. The breakfast was OK and the cafe is spotless. We walked to the beach every day which is about 20 minutes and beautiful. Alvor itself is really nice and has a huge choice of cafes and restaurants and a harbor area which is vibrant and beautiful. The locals are very warm and welcoming and there are a handful of restaurants along the harbor with a lovely breeze coming off the sea. I would definitely go back to Alvor again but probably not in Club Alvorferias. It was OK for us to use as a base but if your kids are younger and you want to put them to bed early and maybe have a drink one the balcony or watch a bit of telly this is not the place. Our telly had 2 English channels....both news and the balcony was tiny and overlooking the noisy road at the back. The pool is big enough but very deep and the sunbeds were not the best."

staff try hard with poor resources
"I had booked a 1 bed apt as a single on half board. I got a 2 bed 2 bath with adequate kitchen equipment but dated furniture. As an experienced traveller I was disappointed that breakfast did not include bacon or sausages & evening meal had minimal choice for main course or sweet. Also the kitchen/serving equipment was very outdated. There is a farm which encroaches into the site where 2 dogs barked incessantly all day every day & frequently at night.I could not really recommend that you book half board as it is not good value even though the restaurant staff do their best with the resources management provide. All staff were efficient, pleasant and helpful."

"After reading some of the reviews we were a bit apprehensive, but, airport transfer was good, reception staff were very helpful and friendly. We were over the bridge, and we were taken there with our luggage by minibus, and our luggage taken into our room (by a female member of staff). The rooms were dated but clean, no toaster but for 50c a day you could hire one, the maids came in every other day to clean, make beds and change towels(put your towels on the floor if you want them changed). The pools were very clean, and cleaned every morning, bar prices reasonable,(but buy a small beer for half the price of a large one and you only get about 13cls less). It is a 5min walk to Alvor town, and go to the Caravella restaurant for a first class resonably price meal, or the Picolo mondo Italian restaurant for the best pizza ever (a few doors away from the Caravella), then go to Michaels bar to finish your evening, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Other reviews have mentioned dogs barking and roosters crowing, we heard the odd dog bark, and the rooster about 7am, remember in Portugal the dogs are wild and do bark, but didnt disturb us. Overall a great holiday for the money, we would go again."

"I cant believe this is 3*, should be 1. Could have cried when saw the room and pool. Dirty, no kettle or toaster in self catering. Air con only in lounge. Pool dirty with hardly any shallow end. Appartments 3 storey (no lift) too many for size of pool.Like run down council flats (sorry).Look out for the cleaner who steals the battery from the tv remote control!. Cost 2e for pool and one of the balls were missing. Avoid this place. The older man in reception is very unhelpful. Drakes in town do a lovely breakfast and evening meals."

Dont go if you want a relaxing holiday
"Don't go if you want a relaxing holiday. Dogs barked most of the night and into the morning and then the rooster starts. If you want to get a descent nights sleep you wont get it here!. Hotel is basic but adequate, although we had numerous problems with several broken window locks and a very dodgy gas cooker, although maintanence did sort out the windows. Our apartment was on a steep hill so not buggy friendly. Bar was small and got very cramped when family activities were on. Road works were going on during our stay for the hotel that is being built by this hotel, paths in and around the hotel were dug up so walking on/off the complex is difficult to do safely especially with children and as it is on a busy main road. Alvor it's self is lovely, but i definately don't recommend this complex. Spend your money else where! "

Accomodation was excellent for the price
"Okay, I read the reviews before we went (mid-April 2011)and was a bit concerned by some of them. Alvor itself is of course stunning, but this review is supposed to be focused on the accommodation. Alvor is easily walkable from Ferias Appartments if you are able to do so..otherwise, advise taxi or bus. We had no need to and enjoyed walking to and from the town. Stop at Micheals Bar (a local, despite the name) on the walk back, as he does the best Mojita cocktail ever! I was informed by a local that the Alvor Ferias apartments had a reputation for a place where the drinking english youth..(which sadly I am no longer)stayed, but in the early season when we went, we had absolutely no complaints. The complex itself was lovely for the price; staff were very approachable and even let us run up a bar tab since they closed soon after we arrived (which was very late evening). We stayed for a week (early April 2011) and the 2 bed apartment was cleaned twice during that time - towels changed once. Staff were friendly and efficient. On site shop quite expensive but then we found the local supermarket badly stocked and expensive too. But we didn't go on holiday to cook! We ate out every evening, which wasn't cheap, but was great. Would we go back to Ferias Apartments? Yes, but only in early or late season, as I can imagine hoards of kids/youths in the peak months, and I have enough of those myself! No lifts, but lovely marble stairs were a good workout. Good facilities, remembering you get what you pay for and we were not disappointed. Just keep your expectations realistic for the money. Alvor is amazing - do take the trouble to walk up the sandy beach to the rocks, which have totally gorgeous coves to sunbathe in, with lots of beach bars on the way. Try Tropica and say 'hi' to Ruhi! Also, pick up one of the free maps that are available in lots of places in stands on the pavements..that was totally, can't stress enough, invaluable for where to eat and general locations information - do try to see the church (it's a gorgeous building..). Don Toro do great tapas. Almost everyone speaks English in Alvor, which is just as well because despite my portuguese surname, I can only say 'thanks' and even then, usually get the gender wrong.. Hope this review helps - we had no complaints, but then we were realistic that we had not paid for 5* star accommodation. Everything was clean and comfortable. We booked with Jet2holidays and they included transfers -you would need transport to get to the Ferias Apartments from the airport. "
