Vila Gale Atlantico Hotel, The Algarve.
"A gorgeous hotel in a quiet part of the Algarve, it sits high looking over some attractive properties 200 yards from the sea. The rooms are more than adequate and all the facilities are what you'd expect for a 4 star hotel. However the food that is included in half board is an ordeal. The restaurant and the black-clothed staff is funereal at best, the food bland and without seasoning. Add to that an horrendous mix of lift music and Kraftwerk that pervades all the hidden speakers in the restaurant as well as the rest of the hotel and you have ample reason to run screaming to any of the 3 wonderful eateries within 3 minutes walk from the hotel, with the added attraction of being on the beach. There are lovely pools and massage treatments and some helpful staff, but there are also some very glum people working in the reception who have a sense of misery about them that could ruin your holiday if you're not careful. I would advise bed and breakfast only so that you can discover the real Portugese dining experience. Great beaches and coves, by the way!"

"I and my boyfriend went here in September 2005, and we were blown away by the place. It was clean, the staff were very friendly, it was quiet, and itâs just the place to go if you are a couple as there were no kids there! The beach is a few minutesâ walk away, which was stunning, lots of cafes. There are lots of water sporting activities to do on the beach; we hired out a jet ski for the price of 50 euros for 15mins. All in all, a wonderful place, we are going back this year! The only thing is there is not a lot of bars etc around where the hotel is, so every day we would get a taxi into the town/strip where there are lots of bars, clubs, and restaurants. Itâs around a 15 minute taxi journey, and I think in a week we spent about 200euros on cabs going to and from the town! We would have hired a car but we were out to have a good time and have a drink, so bear that in mind!"

"My partner and I visited this hotel in September 2006 and we were blown away by the place! It's absolutely beautiful, the staff are amazing, the food was good (although we only went bed & breakfast), the facilities are fantastic and the room exceeded all our expectations. The beach is a 5 minute walk away with some fantastic cafes on the sea front (wouldn't recommend eating dinner in these, we made that mistake once and wouldn't do it again). We thoroughly enjoyed our week and certainly didn't want to come home. If you get the chance, book at this amazing hotel - it'll certainly be a holiday you won't forget!"

Total Satisfaction with Vila Gale Atlantico
"I travelled to the Vila Gale Atlantico with a girlfriend at the beginning of March and we had a fabulous time. The hotel was located outside of Albuferia which suited us to a T. We had a good view of the ocean and we were only on the second floor, the rest of the floors must have had a fantastic view. The room was clean, lots of cupboard space and a kitchenette that was adequately, not fantastically equipped. The low flow toilets took some getting used to but I rate the room a four star. We had dinner once in the hotel and it was fine. I would not go with a meal plan as you can find interesting and reasonable restaurants all over the Algarve. The pool was cold at this time of year but the weather was fantastic, lots of chairs around the pool and nice and sunny. We did not use the spa or indoor pool but if you plan to you may want to bring a bathing cap. They charge 2.50 Euros for one. The turkish steam room and gym cost 7.50 euros extra. The bar was fine for a drink, the entertainment is a bit lounge lizardy for my taste but we had a night cap and enjoyed talking to the waiter. The staff were all friendly and most spoke english very well. If you want good bread remember to go first thing in the morning as it sells out and only the junk is left in the afternoon. Renting a car is a must and a breeze to get around here at this time of year. The round abouts take a little time to get used to but the freedom of the car is amazing. Check out Monchique in the mountains. Try the chicken piri piri at any of the roadside restaurants and head over to Lagos for fresh sardines. I loved the Algarve and would recommend it to anyone. I was thrilled with our hotel choice and its location. Much better then being directly in Albuferia."

Loved the weather/people
"Good clean hotel with very friendly, cheerful and very helpful staff. Great bar staff but drinks a bit expensive compared to other bars nearby. Must have own transport although hotel has shuttle coach to Old Alberfeira 4 times a day free of charge. Beach really is 5 minutes walk with about 4 restaurants and bars. Lots of activities can be booked through reception. Good food although boring after first week and no childrens menu but special Portugese nights and good entertainment every night. No supervised childrens clubs, good swimming pools but very cold. As usual to get a sun bed you need to be up at dawn and I have never seen so many towels by 0800hrs."

Incredible Value For Money
"My wife and I along with our 2 year old todler stayed at this fantastic hotel. Room with the sea view was awesome!! Amenities like room/cleaning service/pool/bars were all great. There is a big supermarket 5 minutes walk and a decent beach 5 min walk away. Games room has a pool table/bar football and video games. Alburfeira was about a 10 min taxi journey away at a cost of about 7 euros. I would recommend hiring a car as there isn't much to do in the local area or use the 3 x daily free shuttle service to Alburfiera. I should mention one thing. I booked two days before we travelled 1 st sept 2005. One website quoted £828 for our room. I got mine off last minute for £420!!! TOTAL for all 3 of us.. So shop around!!! The food as others have stated is a bit repetitive but theres nothing stopping you venturing out. Def going back again with a group."

Not for timeshare owners
"If you're looking for a resort/timeshare time, THIS IS NOT THE ONE FOR YOU! guest here are treated differently compared to other resort type that we've stayed. It's more of a hotel environment with the exception of their restaurant. I have nothing bad to say about the restaurant from the food, to the ambiance and the staff who treated us very well. Internet use is 1 euro for 10 min. Billiard table is 6 euro for 1 hr. Arcade is 1 euro per game. Gym and turkish bath is 7.50 euro. Towel rental is 1.50 euro. Swimming cap (indoor pool/jacuzzi use which is not really heated) is 2.50 euro. Other resorts which we stayed in provides a lot for the family to enjoy without worrying about spending a fortune. Poor customer service most especially the lady at the bar in charge of the billiard balls. If you're not using your timeshare, it would have been ok because the rate is not that bad but I would not recommend this hotel to timeshare owners."

"My family and I have just returned from visiting this hotel (half term week February 2005). We were impressed from the moment we arrived as the reception staff agreed to put us in a junior suite rather than the two rooms we had booked for no extra charge. The room was large and cleaned well every day. We had a fantastic view of the sea. The food was good but did get a little bit monotonous after a week. The only down-side was there was not a lot to do in the area, you really need to hire a car here."

"We found the hotel to be brillant, the rooms were huge and very clean. The service from the staff was helpful and friendly. The only down side was the food in the resturant was not great, but as we were on B&B that did not bother us too much. The hotels location was very good with the long sandy beach just a two minute walk away. I would definitely go back."

"One word to say about this hotel, and that is: amazing! I came with my mum and dad, but had my own room, which was fab! It was superb, the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were fabulous, the restaurant was great and had a great variety of food, and we had a perfect stay in this hotel in Portugal. We came in October which I think was a wonderful time to come, because the weather was hot but bearable, and the hotel wasnt busy, which was nice, and the markets and the town was not very busy either. There is not a bad word to say about this hotel...however, the hotel is not for families that can not drive or havent hired a car, because it is a fair way away from the main town of Albufiera. Mind you, the hotel does lay on free transfer buses, but it is better to have a car instead. I would definately love to come back to this hotel."

A fantastic family holiday.
"This hotel was an excellent find for our family holiday. We took our four year old and our baby, and found the facililties so useful. Our room was huge and had a kitchenette - invaluable. The beach was a few minutes walk, with great, clean facilities. October was a good time to go because it was warm and not crowded. Also, a supermarket five minutes walk, and some local cafes and restaurants. Hotel offers a variety of entertainment through the day and evening. The staff were friendly and very hard working. Would definitely return to this hotel before the up and coming area gets swamped with visitors!"

Vila Gale Atlantico - Spectacular!
"This hotel was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and very helpful and the room was great. The only problem was the toilet did not flush properly but once we had reported it, the problem was rectified within hours. The sea view from the balcony was astounding and the swimming pools were nice - one for adults and a smaller one for children. This part of the Algarve is very quiet and isn't for people wanting to party or enjoy the nightlife - it is more suited to couples and families but the hotel is not far from the Zoomarine and other places of interest. I would definitely go a second time."
