Basic hotel never a 4 star!!
"Just got back from this hotel and got to say we were very disappointed, we had read reviews on Tripadvisor so knew it wasn't the Ritz but it seriously needs a refurbish. The bathrooms have mold on tiles, the kitchenette has the bare minimum although the rooms are spacious and the beds quite comfy. The pool area is not cleaned regularly, there was a dirty plaster laying on the poolside for at least 3 days and the pool is always full of leaves and bugs. The grassy area next to the kids pool is filthy and covered in cigarette ends and if you want a sunbed you need to get down early as there are not enough for all the hotel guests. The games room consists of a pool table and a TV and the free WiFi is only available in there or in the reception. Some of the rooms have an awful smell in them but luckily we got moved to a better room. The staff have to put up with a lot of complaints as nearly every guest had something to complain about but Natasha on reception was lovely."

Lovely hotel & friendly
"I would recommend this hotel as staff were very friendly. Food was good and you could always get a drink of whatever you wanted. Rooms were clean and adequate. Lots of bars/restaurants near by and a fantastic English pub down the road where we ate 1 day and food was beautiful. Met some great people and would certainly go back here."

"Not sure I would give this 4 Stars. Location ok for the youngsters. Rooms were ok but could do with some maintainence ie. taps and shower. Around the pool cheap umbrellas not enough sun loungers. Not a lot to do there in the evening if you had been out all day. Overall i don't think I will go to that hotel again. But Portugal is a must."

definitely not a 4 star hotel
"I have just returned back from this hotel and this hotel is definitely not 4 star hotel, The rooms are cleaned everyday but the bed sheets where not changed once in two weeks and the towels where only changed once in two weeks. There was also a funny smell coming from the drain in the bathroom and the smell got worse during the day, The pool area was full of glass, so always wear something on your feet, Also the pool bar shut at 6pm, so you had to go to the sister hotel for drinks and snacks. Also one night we found the hotel staff alseep on the front desk, I also found the staff very unhelpful and rude. The road what the hotel is on is very dark and you usually find a people sleeping rough just outside the hotel, I would not return to this hotel."

Clean but very basic- DEFINITELY not 4 star quality
"We just visited this hotel last week (May 29th to June 5th) Hotel itself was pretty basic for what was supposed to be a 4 star. It was self-catering but there was no cooker (so we weren't able to eat in some nights to save a bit of money) and no washing up liquid or washing up brush- despite a notice on the wall saying we would be charged 100 euros for not doing the washing up before we left (very welcoming!! so we had to buy our own washing up utensils. Our TV didn't work, and despite contacting reception, it wasn't fixed until the day before we left! Plus double room we booked was two single beds pushed up together which was pretty poor. Also they wanted to charge us 2 Euros a day to "hire" the key to the safe that was already in the room itself! How stingy can you get? Plus the hotel bar shut at 6pm and although we were allowed to visit the hotel next door's bar, when we got there it was completely dead save a handful of people! Swimming pool was fairly small and no spa or jacuzzi facilities. Room service was satisfactory, the staff were ok but a little miserable. When we checked out, the guy on Reception just took our keys without a word. ("thanks for staying with us, have a safe trip home" would have been enough!) All in all, a good location to beaches, bars etc.. very clean, very basic, but no frills, no 'holiday' atmosphere and hardly any customer service. I'd have felt more pampered in a youth hostel! "

extremely clean,and lovely staff..
"having spent 7 days at varandas, iam glad tosay it met all my expectations.the rooms are adequatley firnished and their is cleaning service daily if you require. the pool area is very clean and an excellent sun trap for bathing. its situation means you get the added bonus of being inbetween the two main shopping areas, old town and the strip, the localfoodisdelicious and the people are really friendly. i will be returning again in september"

Quiet central location.
"Our sixth time in Albufeira, the first stay this hotel. We normally go at Easter but were desperate for some late sun so booked at the last minute. The hotel is situated approx 15 minutes to either the old town square or the strip in opposite directions. It is set away from the main road and it was very quiet at night, you do however hear some noise from the rooms above you. The Modelo supermarket is only 150 yards away, I recommend buying plenty of Oranges and a squeezer for fresh juice for breakfast. The hotel staff were friendly enough although we did not spend much time in the hotel apart from sleeping. The cleaners were excellent and the room was cleaned everyday. Our room was a good sized studio apartment with comfortable twin beds and a small cooking area. The room is well equipped for self catering only short of the afore mentioned orange squeezer which we bought for less than a Euro. The pool and bar area was clean and tidy with plenty of loungers to go round and the children that were there seemed to have a good time splashing in the small pool. There was no entertainment at the hotel when we were there but there is plenty nearby. We have booked the Brisa Sol for next Easter but I wouldn't hesitate to return to "Varandas de Albufeira" and would recommend it to my friends. "

"We stayed here in 16th August 2008. Very small clean but basic internally, we had a room facing the pool area fairly small but quiet nice and clean. Our room had two-signal beds, table and chairs, TV, and a cooking section; there is a 30 Euros deposit required, for safe key and door key pay this at the reception. There are Snacks available but no restaurant; the bar has only one member of staff runs snacks. If you are a budget there is a Chinese restaurant near by £9.90 Euros for a set meal (Tim Tim) staff are lovely, there is also McDonalds, K.F.C. Many good restaurants in old town, but be careful some restaurant put bread and olives little bits to eat on your table then charge you for them at the end. We made this mistake on the first night our bill came to 89.00 Euros just for four dinners four drinks. So just say no thank you when they bring things to your table. The 'strip'. Is the place to go if you are young! The is Hotel situated almost equidistant between old town and the strip, not a bad walk about 15mins for those who like to walk, or get the little train a day ticket is 4 Euros you can get off and on has many times has you like. The hotel is very close to a supermarket where you can buy everything and anything. The hotel next door plays music around their pool area with a quiz at about 10.30 we had great fun getting the people around the pool to answer them. The only down side to this hotel was you had to get down to the pool early to make sure you got a sunbed. 7.30!!!! There are some restaurants that will not rip you of Alfredoâs a friendly family run restaurant itâs on the way down to the old town. Mi Sombrero restaurant, Infante very nice fish What ever you donât eat in the square you will get ripped of have a walk around the back street you will get more for your Euros. We always use this site before booking holidays and agree with the some of the others comments."

"Stayed here a few weeks ago and it was lovely. The room was basic but cleaned every day and spotless. At the pool there were always sunbeds available and the bar staff were polite and always friendly. For the football fans there is a plasma with Sky Sports and comfortable big sofas. There is also a supermarket 2 minutes away which is huge. The location may seem a little dodgy at first but its ideal for both the old town and the new town. Costs 3.90 Euro to both in a taxi however the old town is a downhill walk and takes 10 minutes, the new town is 15 minutes along a main road. We really enjoyed Portugal and will be returning."

Just got back from 2 weeks staying here ...
"Just got back from 2 weeks staying here and had a fantastic time! We only had a studio but was definitely big enough for the 2 of us with great facilities and balcony. The room was lovely and was cleaned everyday. The only downside was that we had a room next to the bar which was noisy some nights. The location was excellent and we found the pool bar to be very reasonable. There weren't enough loungers but this was due to people getting up early and putting towels on them for the day even if they weren't there til late afternoon! Definitely preferred the old town to the strip for food, however the bars down the strip had great deals for drinks every night. We would recommend a place called Tacos in the old town to eat, great food and very reasonable. We never got a taxi as found everything was in walking distance and the supermarket was very handy. If booking excursions, there is a place called Paradise tours on the strip which was much cheaper than other operators. Although, I would not advise the trip to Lisbon as we did not find it enjoyable. On the other hand, Aqualand was great! Definitely recommend this place to anyone, we loved it and did not want to leave! "
