"We visited this complex once before and loved it so much we bought an apartment there, Staff are very helpful and friendly. Location is the top of a hill at the back of Albufeira but everything is still within easy reach.

"The hotel is dated and could do with a good clean, the hotel shop is poorly stocked, and very expensive. The hotel is perched on top of a hill, with the main town at the bottom, so you either cook in the room , or walk down the steep hill to town, and get a taxi back, although, that's a lottery as to how much they are going to charge you? It varies every time. The toilets round the pool are very smelly, so you can't sit outside the pool bar due to the smell."

"Just got home from our christmas in the algarve!

We arrived at Pateo Village at around 1030pm, the recepntionist was very helpful and even directed us to the nearest macdonalds as all other restaurants were finished service.

The apartments are very spacious. On arrival they were very clean with almost everything we needed ( a dish cloth would have been useful). the apartments were cleaned 5 out of 7 days that we were there, one of those days that they didnt clean was xmas day so we forgave them. The apartments look good on the surface but upon closer look the fixtures and fittings are on the cheap side. Evenings in december were chilly so we did use the heater provided, ours was broken so one call to reception and it was replaced in 15mins. On xmas day the oven kept tripping and then the plug socket started smoking, so a quick call to reception and the repair man was with us in 20 mins and replaced the plug and socket.

It was too cold to use the out door pool but we did use the indoor pool and the jacuzzi, it was very hot, a little too hot but not unbearable. The bar, cafe and shop were shut as the complex was very quiet with only a few guests.

We walked into the old town numerous times, it was a lovely walk (down hill and not to far), walking back was a bit more strenuous as its up hill but it wasnt too bad, but we are 2 fairly fit young couples. a couple of times we got a taxi back and it didnt cost us more than 4 euros.

We did visit the strip but there wasnt much going on, it was quite far too so we used our hire car to get there and back.

The marina was lovely, we visited there a couple of times as there is a beautiful ice cream shop that did some lovely flavours, farraro rocha was our fav!

Prices vary vastly in albufiria, in the main square in the old town and at the beach front bars soft drinks were around 2 euros and beers 3.5. just off the square a large beer would cost as little as 1.75!

We had a lovely relaxing time and when there was no wind it was beautiful, I even got sun burn in december."

"Apartments are lovely and spacious but this is the only good point.Starting with the basics there are no parasols around the pool available to rent. When you complain to reception you are told to buy one from their shop for 7.50 euro when you can buy them in town for 5 euro.

Security is poor, with a burglary taking place during our stay. My husband thinks he saw the culprits and offered his assistance to reception who said they would allow him to review footage from the CCTV cameras but never did! Lighting is present - when it works which it does not frequently do.

The issue of dogs has been raised before but needs mentioning as dogs freely roam the complex and their mess is not cleared up and on one occasion they were seen drinking from the swimming pool. They are not phased unless you aggressively chase them."

"Stayed at Pateo Village with my wife and two boys for 10 nights at the end of August to beginning of September 2011. The first thing that hits you when you arrive at the reception on the complex is the smell, I asked the receptionist what the smell was and she replied "is the drains." None of the staff appeared to be bothered by it.

Once you get use to the smell, the rest of the holiday was ok until a group of rowdy lads moved in to the apartment next door after 7 days and we insisted on being moved. At 4am the following morning they were outside the new apartment trying to intimidate us because we had complained about them. We contacted the night security and his response was "what do you want me to do?"

Good points - trip to the old town
Bad points - complete lack of security at Pateo Village"

"Just back from a weeks holiday at Pateo Village and overall the whole family enjoyed it.The apartments were basic but very clean and spacious. The pool area was excellent and due to the very high temperatures , we spent most of the week poolside. One quibble with the place would have to be the poor choice of nightly entertainment in the complex meaning a nightly trip to the strip or the Old Town in search of same. There also seemed to be a distinct cash flow problem in the complex as the poolside bars ran out of change very frequently.Staff were friendly , especially the barman from the Ukraine in the main bar and Filomena in the other bar."

"We were concerned prior to our visit having read the reviews. Concerns proved to be well founded. Although the apartments are dated they were clean and spacious. The maids come in for a superficial clean five times a week. Excellent at changing bedding and towels, and sweeping and mopping floors, but no other cleaning took place during our stay. Our welcome was poor on arrival.Receptionist appeared disinterested. Had to wait 3 hours for our apartment. Complex mini market understocked and very overpriced. Cafe serves only junk food and closes at 5.00 pm. The bar opens at 5.00 pm until 1.00 am. If you stay two weeks prepare to see the same old bar entertainment again! Not that brilliant first time round. Bar has no atmosphere although bar man is very friendly. Not enough sun beds and sun umbrellas for all the guests. Only one sun umbrella on the complex, and far too few sun beds! Ground and pool kept clean but beware dogs take a dip in the pool. Main issue and conern are break ins, and overall lack of security. People were broken into when out and also when in bed in the early hours of the morning. Security must be improved at Pateo Village. "

"Best holiday ive been on would recommend albuferia to anyone as theres somthing for everyone, go to the old town for dinner/drinks not the strip unless u dont mind being harrased to buy drugs and fake phones all the time. If you can definatly experiance the dolphin emotions at zoomarine cant even explain how amazing it is to be in the water with these animals and how friendly they are, my boyfriend was a bit weary at first but had a fantastic time with them, if not then zoomarine itself is still fantastic with shows and definatly check out the 4d cinema there. We also went on on a boat trip with dolphin encounters hoping to see the dolphins out at sea-this was not so good. I wouldnt tell people not to go but i would recommend u check the weather first, they sent out 2 boats at once wich turned out to be quite a lucky thing, my boyfriend and i went onto the snaller boat it was not meant for the ocean at that strength and was a very scary experiance they were about 8 people on the boat one a which was a child who was not offererd a life jacket after getting out to sea the waves became too much for the small boat to handle and started coming in over the top it made the whole experiance worse when the driver bagan to look scared, im not sure what happened to the engine but it did actually stop in the middle of the sea and we had to call the other boat for help after the engine got going again my boyfriend had to tell the driver to take us back getting quite angry with him as we still thought we were going out in search of the dolphins, the wavs continued to come overboard and i actually began to fear for my life as i think everyone on the boat did, 3 of us had to jump onto the bigger ribbed boat in the middle of the ocean which did make u feel safer as its nade for them kind of waters but was very uncomfortable coming down on the high waves, the skippers were not helpful at all and basically told everyone to shut up paniking because there lives were not in danger, they werent reassuring and never once said were all going to get back safely. i dont think anyone on either boat enjoyed themselves and we certainly didnt see any dolphins and to make it worse after finally getting back to the harbour after the worse 2 hours of my life we told we werent going to get a refund/ compensation of any sort and one of the ladies spoke to the owners p.a and she caled us all lyers, my boyfriend were determined not too let this ruin our holiday so walked way and let it go that we werent going to get any money back and were just thank full tobe on the land. The beautiful beaches and scenery didnt make it hard to forget although i think the bad emeories will be there for a long time. The weather was absolutly brilliant and we both came back quite sunburnt we were meant to have 3 days of rain but didnt see one drop of rain all week it does get very cold in the evening so take a pair of trousers, the albuifera area is absolutly wonderful aand there is plently to do for everyone also people in bars/resteraunts are very friendly. Pateo villge is situated on top of a hill so i recommend taxis back to the hotel but there fairly cheap and to walk down the old town or marina is not far at all, also the roundabouts there are brilliant my favourite being the dolphin roundabout, if u get chance to check out albufiera definatly do it im sure u wont regret it we dont. :)"

"Just returned (June 10) from Pateo Village found the place to be very clean but it had no personality, unfortunately the snackbar closed at 5 pm and that was it the village is quite away from any the local supermarkets and the one within the village was not restocked since last summer, there were no fresh veg or fruit anywhere. On one occassion I counted 47 people around the pool( 2X stag and hen do's) and it just closed. But my friend who has a walking disability was unable to go for a local drink as there are none local. When we went for a cocktail the poor bar staff did not know how to make one and then by reading the incredients found she did not have them in the bar anyway. When the snack bar ran out of diet coke it just simply wasnt replaced. And then on the day we were leaving we needed to eat before our late evening flight the snack bar had no food left to cook, we settled on a sandwich but was warned they had no chips but were still charged for them which was 4 euros.Maybe if you have a car like many of the portugese visitors then its not a problem and you can stock up and survive in the village but if your on foot well hard times ahead !!"

"We arrived at the hotel and we were checked in straight away. When I asked was our room on the ground floor I was advised that yes it was. I explained that this was not suitable as we had a 2 year old and an open plan terrace was not an option. We were moved upstairs straight away to a room with a balcony which was great.

When we got in our room we found a very spacious apartment with 1 large bedroom, bathroom with a bath and open plan well equipped kitchen/dining room/living room leading to a spacious balcony. However, the cot they provided did not fit trough the bedroom door (that’s why we were put downstairs as the cots come in via the back bedroom window/door). Again, this was not a problem for them and they went to another complex and got a travel cot to go into the bedroom.

The onsite shop is very expensive and therefore we only used this for emergencies. There are however 2 Alisuper shops close by which were both well stocked and much cheaper. To do a decent shop I would recommend Modelo supermarket which is a short taxi ride away (€4) or 30-40 minute walk up & down hill.

The location of the apartments is a little daunting at 1st but you get use to it and the walk down to the beach or main square is ok but may I advise the walk back is HELL and would recommend a taxi (€3-€4) for the lesser brave, which we were on a few occasions and I have the calf muscles to prove it! The beaches are fab and the main square in the old town has everything on offer to suit all tastes. We did not have a bad meal and we had several good meals in Mama Mias, which is in fact just round the corner from Pateo Village which was great and I would recommend you go.

The children’s playground is a joke… can’t really say mush else to be honest and we did not use it.

The pools have an ongoing problem with missing tiles and these are due to be replaced at the end of the season. This was not a problem for us but has been for other. Oh, the pools are freezing and the indoor pool is dirty so wasn’t entered by myself.

We didn’t use the onsite bar or café.

We had a few days out. One to splash and slide which was great for older kids and husbands! The other trip was to Zoo marine which I would recommend, especially the Dolphin show. Sadly, we had our parasol stolen from the buggy while watching the Dolphins. However, the management at the park have offered to replace this for us which is extremely kind of them. We just have to send them the bill when we get round to buying a replacement.

All in all we had a great time at Pateo Village. Its just a shame is so high up a hill !!!
