Pateo Village Apartments

very very poor !
"we visited the first week in May 2007.
Pateo Village is very basic. What disappointed us most was the stink of sewers and drains in our first room. It was soooo bad even the travel rep agreed and luckily moved us. Unfortunately the people beside us where not so lucky and had too stay . The smell was hidious! And the wiff hit you as soon as you entered the apartment .
our second room was slighly smaller but didnt smell which was a relief! overall the pateo village is a basic complex, the rooms would sufice and the pool area is a major plus for children. However pateo village is a good 20 minute hike up a hill so would not be suitable for couples with young children or older people with walking difficulties."

Ok, not luxury but fine for a simple week away..
"We were at Pateo Village last week (31/3 - 7/4/07) and on the whole we were impressed.
There were just two of us so there was ample space - I imagine the apartments would be rather crowded if there were also people sleeping in the living area!
All the apartments are the same size and on the ground and first floor they are in pairs, but if you are on the top floor, as we were, there is only one apartment so you get the benefit of an enormous terrace, which is the equivalent to the apartment underneath!
This is a somewhat well kept secret and we only found out when we walked in, but it could be worth asking for one. Be aware that although the roof terrace is walled to waist height it would be quite easy for a child to climb over...
We had no concerns about security during our stay and all the staff we met were very professional and courteous. The gardener is great and seems to work non stop! The First Choice rep for this year is a really super guy called Richard.
They have two fast internet access computers in reception, 1 Euro for 10 minutes.
We had a coffee and beer in the pool side bar, didn't use the main bar and only used the shop a little, it just wasn't very appealing.
The pool looked good with nice terrace and sunbeds and there is an indoor pool and jacuzzi. The whole place seems clean although they clearly have a damp problem in some rooms.
There is plenty of parking if you have a hire car and access to the N125 and motorway is easy, via Guia.
We chose to eat in most evenings and the only problem we had was that our stove didn't work properly, the oven was fine though slow but the rings were useless. We did report it and were later told it had been fixed but it was no different. However, we coped, although there are minmal cooking tools! (Cue excuse to buy a colourful orange squeezer and a few other odds and ends!)
We would go here again, it was good value, ok it wasn't luxury but it was fine for a simple week away."

pateo village appartments were one of the best we've stayed in
"Hi my husband and I stayed at the Pateo Village Appartments in Albufeira with our 3 children aged 14, 13 and 9. These appartments were very spacious clean and had everything you could want to cook a meal including a full cooker, fridge with freezer compartment.
We were lucky as we had a ground floor appartment so we just opened up the pateo doors and put the table and chairs on the grass outside of our pateo and could watch the kids down by 1 of the 3 pools as we relaxed and cought the sun.
The restaurant within the complex was nice clean frendly a little expensive but worth the little extra for the convenience and the food was always nice and hot, but just down the hill from the appartments approx a 5 min walk there was a fabulos restaurant, I cant remember the name but u go down the hill turn right and it was on the left with breath taking views very good food and the best service we've every had from any restaurant. For 5 euro's the kids got a kids meal you know chicken nuggets, sausages or pasta or pizza with chips a can of coke 4 page colouring in book/quizs a wooden anamal pen that they could take home and my kids loved it.
The hotel entertainment was ok but nothing great but what do you expect for a small complex I would say the entertainment was mainly for the older people as it was manly 60's music but me and my hubby didnt mind as we love that music plus your twice weekly kareoke. The kids went off and played while we were in there with the video games or on the internet but be warned it was 2 euro's for 20 mins, the older 1's used to pop off and play pool or table tennis outside and just down from the reception.
Dont buy anything from the shop in pateo village as its half the price just down the hill on ur left there are 2 supermarkets and a papershop, the papershop is great the cigartes are the same price from him as in the old town an dif he doesnt have enough there for you he will get them really quickly. (25 euros for 200 red royals or 29 euros for most other brands regal. lambet that sort of thing.)
All the staff there were very friendly there was never any troulbe infact although the appartments were all full we hardly heard anyone even around the pool there were quite a few kids but hardly heard them just the normal giggles as 1 pushed the other into the pool kind of thing, and if that wasnt all the jacuzzi was wonderful always hot and ready to wind away those hang overs.
When going to Albufeira no matter what time of year you need to take a cardigan for the night time as it does cool down considerably and the see breeze as quite a nip to it.
I guess what everyones wondering about at the moment is the old town - well yes it is like a bomb site and it looks like the workmen are just slowly moving a bit of rubble from 1 bit to another and a lot of the shops and restautants are closed BUT do not let that put you off once you get past that bit and start heading towards the beach its amazing the open air resturants and bars with there live music its so relaxing and everyone is so friendly its just a wonderful place to be and so different in the day time to the night time. If you go and get as far as the beach look over the wall and hopefully the men doing there sand pictures will be there they are out of this world I wouldnt of beleved that you could create such delecate pictures in the sand.
The strip well we visited that twice and that was more than enough for us so if your a group of young lads wanting to get lashed or stag or hen party's go for it but apart from that you can keep it I'll stay in the old town.
1 last warning for all the lady's pack yourself a nice pair of flat evening shoes, I didnt I took high heals and wedge shoes and nearly broke my neck a few times the pavements are very slippy and uneven on both the strip and the old town.
Dont forget to go to zoo marine its well worth it all attractions are free when you get in and the food is nice and resonably priced."

Clean & spacious
"Have just returned from two week stay in these apartments. Despite security reports in previous reviews everything was absolutely fine - no problems.
The apartment was very clean and spacious but somewhat basic lacking in comfort i.e. no easy chairs to sit in apart from the bed settee which was not very comfortable. Being such a large apartment there is plenty of room for a few extras. The TV on broadcast foreign channels apart from Sky News and CNN.
The kitchen had a lot of cupboard space but very little in the way of equipment.
No dishes to use in the microwave and no bowls to mix anything in not even a measuring jug.
The grounds were kept very well and there is a very pleasant area outside apartments to sit in the sun especially in the summer around the pool.
At this time of year there was no entertainment and the bar was under renovation.
Albufeira is a 20 min. walk away but a very steep climb back up the hill. Not a walk for the less able or faint hearted!!!
All in all a very pleasant place to stay but in need of a few extras to make it more homely."

great for familys
"Just returned from pateo village, was concerned about security after reading reports, but no problems whatsoever. Was given a second floor apt, but was worried about my 3 year old daughter climbing so asked to be moved to ground level, they did this with no hesitation. Rooms spotless, all staff on site very friendly and helpful and honest. left expensive watch in first apt we was offered, didnt realize i left it there and the maid came and returned it. Didnt buy from on site shop as a bit over priced, found few shops just outside complex that were great value. Bit hilly down to old town, worse back up with a stroller, but the bus takes you there for 1 euro and taxi was 3 euros, hired a car the second week. At the welcome meeting we were invited to visit pestana hotels, this turned out to be a time share, no pressure, well worth a visit plus we were given 35 euros for our time which we put towards zoo marine excursion, well woth it."

value for money
"We've been "all-inclusive" on our last few holidays and decided to go self-catering for a change. We'd read the reviews about the Pateo Village after booking and it seemed there were concerns about the security, entertainment, location and prices.
The security was fine - no reports of any thefts whilst we were there and there is a chain on the door now. I stupidly left my handbag in a cupboard and am pleased to report that when I got home and rang them, they found it and sent it on to me with contents intact.
I don't agree with the previous reports on the entertainment. There are 75 apartments and so maximum occupancy is only around 300 - obviously not everyone goes to the entertainment so it wasn't particularly well supported. I was surprised they actually put entertainment on - the local entertainers tried their best but it was mainly lack of support which gave such low reports previously.
The location is up a hill. A big hill. There is a bus which takes you into the town. 1 eu per adult and free for children. However, we walked to the beach and we also walked a few nights into town for our meals. It took around 15-20 mins. I never walked back; a taxi cost 3.95 euros for 4 of us at night tme and for some reason only 3 euros in the day.
The Pateo was expensive. Drinks and snacks and also the supermarket are all a bit over the top. 2 large beers and 2 small seven-ups cost almost 9 euros. They did put the football on for the England game but there's another bar round the corner where the beer was half the price.
The apartments are above average. They are on 3 floors. The ground floor opens up on to the pool area which was great for families. Our children are 13 and 11 and we had a top floor apartment - which was brilliant as the sun terrace is huge. It is the size of a whole apartment. The apartment was clean - however, beware. When they say the maid comes in 5 times a week, she has 2 days off together so we were left without dry towels for a day. However, reception organised fresh towels within 40 minutes of asking.
The staff are friendly and tried their best to help. There were just around 15 sun loungers too few. We got one most days and we didn't get out until 11-ish. If we didn't, we sat on the grass which was actually more comfortable. We always got a lounger later on in the day. We would definitely go back to Pateo again."

Clean, tidy and friendly but noisy......
"We have just returned from staying at the above apartments for a week. The rooms were ok and clean and the staff were friendly.
We made the mistake of eating at the apartments for the first night, overpriced and we did not go to Portugal to only eat burgers and chips!!!!!!
We found a lovely restaurant just at the bottom overlooking the sea, excellent food.
The main concern was that the rules they make are not adhered to. They have notices everywhere saying do not reserve the sunloungers, but every morning as early as 7.45 they were down there putting the towels out (these with British not Germans) and all the staff walked past and said nothing, but the worst was the screaming and the shouting of teenagers every night running up and down until 2.00 in the morning (they say you should NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN RUN RIOT), we had to go out on a few occasions and all we got was glared at and a lot of mumbling. We have children that went with use and did not behave in this manner. I should imagine it is a lovely place to stay out of season, but only go if you want NO SUNBEDS and NO SLEEP in the height of the season. One good point the First Choice Reps were excellent!!!!"

A relaxing time at pateo
"Within the first hour of arriving at pateo our little boy fell at the side of the pool, total accident. but the manager of the apartments took us to hospital, helped us through the language barrier and brought us back again. He asked about how he was doing everytime we saw him afterwards and this along with the friendliness of other staff and fantastic reps made our holiday extra special with a personnal touch.
The shop at Pateo is a little on the expensive side, but nothing that you don't mind paying for the convience of not having to go any further, but if you choose to you don't have far to go.
The evening entertainment is acceptable but only if you don't want to venture too far into town at night time.
The pool side bar have lovely meals and a very friendly service, we would reccomend this to you.
When we first arrived we had to walk into town it seemed like a long way but if you cut through the park it took about 10 to 15 minutes, unfortunately all uphill coming back!
The cleanliness is excellent, staff on reception and bars are very friendly (shop a bit dodgy!).
The reps Jason and Sally Anne are great and so helpful, can't fault them. The Jeep safari is a must as is the splash and slide, would probably give the zoomarine a miss and also the casino (that was ok. cheap and cheerful but eat before you go!)
Without going on too much I must say that the safety of your valuables are all without any worries. CCTV cameras have been fitted and the safety keys are all sorted out now.
Hope this helps you with your hols if not I will be happy to help you again. Sit back and relax that is what this wonderful, friendly holiday is all about."

"This complex is very well presented, with clean spacious apartments. This is the ONLY good point of the resort.
PLEASE BE AWARE - The security at the Pateo resort is non existant. On Wednesday 25th May, my apartment was burgled. The thieves apparently had keys to the apartment and simply let themselves in as there was NO sign of forced entry. Whilst inside, they also gained entry into my safe!!!!. Once they had helped themselves to cash, video camera and other items, they simply walked out and deadlocked the front door after themselves. Also, both apartments on the ground floor of my block were also burgled on the same night. One particular guest who was staying in one of these rooms, was also targetted 6 days prior. In this raid her watch was stolen. After this incident she contacted the First Choice Rep, and asked that she warn future guests during the "welcome meeting". This DID NOT happen.
I was later informed that some master keys had been stolen, and it appears that nothing has been done to address this issue. I will NOT be returning. Please BE CAREFUL."

pateo village nightmare
"we arrived at pateo village on 12 may 05
and thought what a fantastic looking place, perfect location of the apartment on the ground floor right next to the pool perfect for keeping an eye on the children.
first few days were ok then we got burgled on the wednesday night,
NO FORCED entry gold watch was stolen, another apartment 3 doors down also robbed NO FORCED entry. Upon reporting to the rep SALLY ANNE who filed the paperwork we advised her to mention these events in her future welcome meetings, we were told by her that this would be done.HOWEVER none of this took place, nobody was informed
second week same night, our last night on the island after completing all of our shopping for friends family etc.left all the purchases in the room at 8.30 went to watch the second half of the football. returned to the room at 11 front door was WIDE OPEN everything gone. cases that had been packed for goin home hade been opened up and searched through, we lost approx £800 worth of belongings on this holiday.
i returned to the reception reported the theft and the police were called
i then went to the bar where people were watching the entertainment, took hold of the mike and informed other guests what had took place.
people left to check there apartments another 2 apartments had also been robbed NO FORCED ENTRY
we tried to call the REPS no answer on all numbers, the police confirmed it had been a KEY that had been used to gain entry to all the rooms, even a safety box had been emptied in 1 of the rooms, the police came and requested an officer for fingerprinting, one arrived later inspected, he tried to shut us out of our room, so upon me asking i want to see what you are doing his reply was "DONT TELL ME HOW TO DO MY JOB" and promptly left.
this i could not believe, the manager was called and the only sense we got out of him was"IVE GOT TO BE BACK AT WORK IN 5 HOURS".
we had three terified chidren who all ended up in one room with us, and no help from any staff, police, reps
i feel totally let down by all these people, they are supposed to be the ones you can turn to when you get into a situation like that.
next morning the rep turned up along with the supervisor, yet more paperwork
then we had to go police station and PAY to report the crimes
upon returning to pateo village, the rep manager came to see us, we explained the events, she had no answer as to why we could not get hold of the rep the previous night, but she did admit that security was a problem at pateo village.
we were also told that all the locks would be changed the following day(THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE THE PREVIOUS WEEK IN MY OPINION) and cctv was going to be installed over the next couple of weeks.
this in my opinion is to little too late for the 5 families just in the last 2 weeks, i am in contact with them all and we are in agreement, THIS WILL GO FURTHER.
for this to be allowed to continue is not acceptable.
i have read some of the forums from last YEAR and the same thing was happening then. this proves how much they dont care.
if this has happened to you in pateo village. post a reply and i will b in touch

"We visited this complex once before and loved it so much we bought an apartment there, Staff are very helpful and friendly. Location is the top of a hill at the back of Albufeira but everything is still within easy reach.

Miles from anywhere
"The hotel is dated and could do with a good clean, the hotel shop is poorly stocked, and very expensive. The hotel is perched on top of a hill, with the main town at the bottom, so you either cook in the room , or walk down the steep hill to town, and get a taxi back, although, that's a lottery as to how much they are going to charge you? It varies every time. The toilets round the pool are very smelly, so you can't sit outside the pool bar due to the smell."
