Okay hotel, good location
"Location of hotel is great, only ten minute walk to the old town. Probably not suitable if you have difficulty walking, as uphill to the hotel.
Our room (213) was smaller than we would have liked, seemed a bit like it had been an extra room which just happened to be turned into a bedroom! The bathroom did not have an opening window and the room had probably the smallest balcony I've ever seen. Saying that, it did serve it's purpose as we didn't spend lots of time in it anyway. It was kept clean and you get fresh towels every third day. Would have been nice if there had 's been a fridge/coffee making facilities within the room, but thats probably because we are more used to going self catering
Didn't like the fact that the air conditioning was on a timer, definitely would prefer to be able to control it ourselves as to when we wanted it to go on and off
We stayed B&B, the breakfast was ok, but just average, would have been better if the fruit salad had been fresh, not tinned mixed with some chopped banana or apple! No fresh juice either, only some sweetened stuff
The pool area was nice and there was always ample sunbeds. The pool bar was okay, nice salad, fries and icecream!
Nice touches included a complimentary welcome drink at the bar on the first night. A bottle of wine in a bucket of ice placed in the room on our 5th night (my birthday).
Any staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful.
Restaurants that we liked in the old town were Bank, Bravissimo/Bravo and Alfredos.
All in all we enjoyed our stay, but would possibly go to another hotel next time. Expected a little bit more from a 4 star"

"Sept 07 1st to 14th. â 2 couples
This was the second year in succession we had stayed at the hotel so we knew where everything was from the off. Yes itâs up a hill from the centre of the old town so if you canât walk donât go.
We were staying on B&B and enjoyed the wide choice of breakfast food on offer, it is the same every morning but if you canât find something to suit then you are a very fussy eater. We did hear people winging about the evening meal but I canât comment as we always eat out
Maids are in you rooms every day to make up the beds and clean with towels changed every couple of days.
There are limited sun beds around the pool but rarely unable to get one, although you had the usual hogs who put towels on in the morning and donât turn up till lunchtime and yes they were âBritishâ.
The staff are friendly particularly Carol with her âdryâ Blackburn humour.
Overall this is a good clean family run small hotel, which at these prices you canât be beaten on, as I said we have been twice and would go again."

Beware of Room 97
"Stayed here for two weeks, returning on Thursday 6/9/07. Having read previoius mixed reviews my husband and I went with an open mind. The hotel was quirky, decor a little tired and in need of a renovation. However our room 97 was acceptable, it was large with two beds, plenty of wardrobe drawer space and two arm chairs, with terrace which had a view to nothing. Infact, how the hotel was laid out I think our room was in the basement. We had to climb up our wall onto the lawn to look at what would have been our view (if we were higher up) and it was a school playground. Our room never got cleaned until 4.30 which was a bit of a problem when wanting to go back for a pm nap only to have the maids disturb you.
The food, especially breakfast was a little repetative, the same every day with not much choice. Evening meals were well cooked, but once again not much variety. Its so cheap to eat out that we had a few meals in town. If eating out can recommend the Tourists Menu at O Velerie, 4 courses with coffee and half bottle wine for 9 euros 50.
Pool area quite small, also needed cleaning daily, which obviously it wasnt as guests were clearing the leaves out of the pool. Sun beds pleantiful. Cafe bar ok, but service slow as only one person manning it and has to do everything.
Also location not good if you have mobility problems, every route is hills and more hills. It would have been nice to see the hotel provide a courtesy bus down to the old town and beach.
Albufeira itself is beautiful, the square comes alive at night with different street artists. Well worth the visit. But I would not come back to this hotel again."

Not so sure!
"Upon arriving at the hotel i was a little dissapointed by the location. to access the town center and beach you have to walk down a very steep hill, and the walk back is less than enjoyable especially in the mid day heat. I was reasonably pleased with the interior look of the hotel. The decor was nice and it was still quite traditional even though it had recently been refurbished (looks a little different to the candid traveller photos) Our room was lovely, however, we were made to wait for over an hour after checking in to get access to our room, and this was ater the 12pm chescking out time. The rooms are very clean and quite comfortable. The pool area was quite small but we found it pleasant enough. The food in the cafe bar was nice and the seating area inside was comfortable and somewere pleasant to get away from the heat. However, overall we were dissapointed by the hotel. We had paid half board but the evening meal was a disgrace. The was limited variety and the quality was awful. Luckily there are some brilliant restraunts in the town square, i recommend The Bank and Bravo! The town center of a night is lively and there are plenty of bars and shops!
I would recommend this hotel to older people but i deffinately would not recommend it to families or young couples as we found the pool area a bit small and the loaction was a bit to far from the beach and town centre.
Overall, i wasnt overlly impressed with the hotel as the food was appauling or the resort itself as there was little to do and we found ourselves getting a little bored after a few days. I certainly could not spend longer than a week there.
if you are looking for a simple hotel and simple holiday and just want to relax by the pool then this hotel would be ideal for you. However, if you want to explore and get a taste or portugal and the algarve i would not recommenf this resort or hotel."

nice hotel but
"Looking at other reviews we thought that the hotel was going to be excellent. The best thing about the hotel was the pool area, the cafe bar and the staff that served their. The towels were changed three times a week. Ok i now they are into the environment but we have stayed in Portugal before and have never come across this. Our room was not cleaned on the first day and after that not cleaned until after 4.30 most days. The food most have taken a nose dive as we and other guests ate out most nights. Albuferia was a lovely place to stay. I would recommend going there but maybe not that hotel. There are some fab bars and eating places in the old town, the locals are really helpful and friendly. Overall we had a nice relaxing holiday , meet some great people but will not be staying at that hotel again. It definitely not a 4* hotel."

Fab Hotel,Fab location
"Did nt know quite what to expect as im not used to going to a small hotel, everything was just as good, the traditional hotel is situated in a quiet spot on a very quiet street, but my sister and i did feel very safe walking back in the dark, the walk down to the square is not to bad it took us no more than 10 mins, the walk down and back to the beach was also about 10 mins however you need to be fit!! as the hotel is in an elevated posiion,Sis and i did nt put on any weight!!The hotel was lovely and clean and so to was our room. The restaurant was fab, offering different international buffet style every night, the meal times were staggered, there was plenty of choice hot and cold and we also enjoyed brekfast again plenty of choice , we did take our own teabags but we did nt need them the tea was good! The bar, indoor and outdoor lounges were very comfy!the pool area very clean,a bit small, need to be down early.Loads of room on the beach was was mega clean,2 beds and 1 umbralla was 15 euros. The square on the evening was buzzing a great atmosphere, loads of street entertainment,i do feel this resort would suit couples and families, would defo return to the hotel was in a great position compared to he other hotels which we saw"

"We stayed at "Do Cerro" for a week for our honeymoon, and we loved it, the meals were great especially the buffet evening meal which had lots of choice and all you could eat, also the breatfast buffet had a lot of choice from the lovely fresh rolls and cold meats and cheeses to the bacon, eggs and alot more, The room was very comfortable with a huge bed and air con! lovely marble bathroom, both cleaned daily. our room overlooked the pool area which was handy for selecting your sunbed in the early morning! could be quite busy later on, also a great cafe right next to the pool for hot or cold snacks and also a pool table and relaxing sofa area to cool down in. Great views from the hotel and the walk down into town and the beach which is steep and a bit of a struggle on the way up again if you have been shopping but plenty of cafe's and bars on the way to stop and have a refreshing beer maybe not ideal for older folks but there is always a taxi! lovely beach and the people who make the sand sculptures are genious remember your camera! If your taking any day trips we would recommend "Vilamorra" especially the harbour area and they do some great trips out on boats all around the caves and you can go for a swim! We also took a trip into the mountains in a jeep which left from the hotel, lovely scenery and you also go to where they make the local moonshine! which you can buy and their honey yum, the trip ends up at the local zoo which was lovely and very relaxing the kids would love it as well! The hotel has lifts which is a bonus after a bevvie! All in all a very relaxing place that we would recommend, we did not have any problems with noise from the school next door or anything else, reception will even put stamps and post your postcards for you! (you pay the stamps) i have put on a few pics also.

"Went on this holiday with mixed feelings after reading some of the other reviews but we were pleasantly surprised. Our room was very spacious and a suite just as we had booked as we took our 11 year old with us and she had her own room. The rooms were cleaned every day and all staff courteous and polite especially barmen and waiting staff. The food was excellent with plenty of choice, drinks were very reasonable. The pool area was well maintained and poolside cafe served reasonably priced and good food. We received two bottles of complimentary wine (very much enjoyed)
This hotel is not ultra modern and does not provide full on entertainment for children and evening entertainment is not too great but we did not want an overcrowded busy hotel with a bustling atmosphere.
This Hotel is very quaint and has lots of character, personally I would recommend it. The walk to the town takes about 10 mins, a little longer coming back but not a really steep hill."

"Had a fantastic stay here. Swimming Pool was lovely, rooms were thoroughly cleaned every day, towels changed nearly every day, food was always lovely with a good choice. sometimes choice from a menu and sometimes buffet. hotel is high up so a good steep climb from old town and beach but there are roads that can be used to make the walk slightly easier. this is the quirkiest hotel i have ever been too but oh so lovely too. hotel bar and coffee shop were not expensive either. there are a few building works going on down in the old town but makes no distruotion to the holiday at all. the hotel has a mixture of nationalities and variety of ages. we were two thirty one year old ladies on a good girlie holiday and did not feel out of place with the families and couples there. it classes itself as four star. i have stayed at more modern four star but this is not a one star hotel at all.............you will realise that for yourself. more a 3 star."

"If you like CATS, go to this Hotel. They are everywhere, even in the Restaurant. I don't mind Cats but they should NOT be where you are eating...
The Hotel is quaint with lots of nice murals etc. but you will be charged for any extra...
Note: This is a 4 * Hotel, BUT, Towels are only changed every 3 Days except as an extra.
No supplied towels at pool except as an extra.
Pool Caps MUST be worn at indoor pool, extra if you don't have them.
Nearly ALL TripAdvisor reports say the Food is good|
We do not agree. It was bland and NOT up to a 4* Hotel.
Never known Bananas to be cut in half?
Maybe to stop you taking them for later.?
See note at restaurant door about removing food.
If you have paid extra for a sea view, check out your room. You could be looking at a wall.
This is not a hotel for the physically impaired.
As most rooms are accessed by steps, and the hotel is at the top of a hill above Albuferia.
With all this, we did enjoy our stay because we had good weather and there is a bus stop nearby.
Entertainment, as food, mediocre...
Sorry, won't be back... "

"We have just returned from 11 nights and cannot rate the hotel enough, having travelled out there with a trapped disc in my back and after having treatment which he rep organised the reception staff were brilliant as i had to have extra pillows under my legs and an ice pack every 2 hours on my back for 2 days.
The hills around the hotel are not a problem if you read the comments on trip advisor before you go.
We had a lovely room with a sea view
We found the food was good and there was always a good choice, we never went hungry overall we had a great time.
Thankyou to all the staff."
