"Lovely hotel we have stayed before , although it appears they have removed some of the facilities from the apartment eg washing machines and other bits,,??? Very central for old and new town , and lots of nice restaurants and shops. Try the nearby Chinese Shanghai .. The staff Carlos , Fernando and Anabel are a credit to the hotel . All lovely helpful people . We used the same transfer company as last year yellow fish transfers who were great . On time and also very friendly , have some nice new cars with internet . The driver played some great old school tunes during our trip to the airport ... We are returning in the autumn , and very much looking forward to it .. Highly recommend .. "

"Spent a week at the Forte De Vale Apartments in the new town of Albufeira Portugal. The apartment itself was well though out plenty of room with fantastic good quality facilities. Cooker,Dishwasher,Microwave, Toaster,Jucier,Fridge Freezer Pots pans,Cups,Saucers etc. The rooms were clean with modern decor and very well presented. The staff are very pleasant and speak very good english. The pool was cleaned every morning aswell as all sun loungers. There were no restrictions on when you could use the pool and the pool side bar prepared fresh pizzas on demand and brought to your lounger. All staff were pleasant through out our holiday. Praia beach if good fun and within walking distance from apartment, I would recommend though that families travelling with children take along some swim shoes as the water is rather rocky and can be dangerous. We went to the old town every night which is about a 20 minute walk very nice in the evening. There is plenty to do from eating to live music places I would recommend is alababa chinese, and Central Planet Cocktail Bar the staff in the cocktail bar are fantasic they have live music every night to suit different people. There are also three or four different water parks in which you can visit the best one is slide and splash which is a 30 min drive from the apartments which can be booked just round the corner. We had a fantastic time and would recommend any one to go. We will be returning next year. The only problem we experienced was the tour operator Lisa from cosmos never showed up. "

Forte Do Vale
"Just back from a relaxing week at this hotel. Accommodation, location and staff top class. Decent size pool with plenty of loungers, hotel quiet but plenty of life nearby Hotel 10 mins from a beautiful beach, 10 mins from the strip and 15 mins from the old town. Apartments high standard and decent size with two balconies and TV with English channels. Plenty of decent places to eat nearby and also in old town. Couple of good live music bars in old town square, try Harrys great rock band play every night if you like your muisc loud. Bar across the square has a guy on acoustic who is also good. Most Restaurants offer tourist menus or daily specials which helps keep costs down especially as pound is so poor against the Euro. Small shop beside hotel and a cash machine, large Modedo supermarket 10 mins away. Also games room in hotel with internet access, 1 euro for 10 mins and pool tables."

Forte Do Vale - not a four star hotel
"My friends and I stayed at this hotel half board. The dinner was horrible and upon complaining to the hotel 'owner' who walked away whilst my friend was still complaining about the food got the chef of the hotel to sort out our complaint. The chef informed us that the hotel management have outside catering for dinner and that the dinner is not cooked in the hotel. They ran out of bread at breakfast and there was no normal tea at the hotel at all. The maids did not clean our apartment at all, just put fresh towels on one side and that was it. We were three of us therefore not messy but the maids did not clean the bathroom at all. When booking the hotel we were informed that there was a jacuzzi, sauna, gym and other facilities. Upon arriving we asked about these facilities and were informed that they were not ready and would not be until next year. We informed the Manager and Owner of these points when checking out but the owner said we were causing alot of problems. For a new hotel only two years old, they should take on board what their customers are suggesting to improve their services, but far from it. The owner and Manager instead walked into their offices totally ignoring us. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The apartments however are quite nice and the kitchen has all the necessary equipment if you are staying self catering. On the whole, the hotel/apartments are lovely, new and very nice but customer service is nill. If you pay for half board for a four star hotel, the food should be excellent for a four star, but it is not. There are a lot of restaurants and bars along the strip within walking distance and the hotel is close to the beach."

Good value hotel in between the Old Town and the Strip
"The hotel is newly built so everything was in good condition. We had a 2 bedroom apartment which included a balcony (granted, it overlooked the car park but we spent very little time in the room). The kitchen had the usual - stove, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, juicer and a toaster but no oven or kettle. Although there was a bottle opener there wasn't a corkscrew or tin opener so we had to buy one. The staff were very helpful and booked our excursions and reconfirmed our transfer back to the airport. We arrived early (11am) but we were able to go straight into our room. The only downside was that we weren't sure how much of a clean the rooms had during the stay. The bins were emptied and the towels changed but the floors could have done with a sweep. As there were only two of us this didn't really cause us a problem as there wasn't much of a mess but it stopped me rating this an excellent hotel. There's an outside swimming pool but it was too cold for us to use (we went in February). There's a games room on the ground floor and the Health Club is due to open in March/April." There's a bar and restaurant in the hotel but we didn't use it so can't comment. One night we went to the Koala Restaurant (5 mins away) - the chocolate cake was delicious! There is a small shop (Blue supermarket) selling food a couple of mins away or a larger store Modelo less than 10 mins. There are also cafe/bars and a pharmacy in this same block. The hotel is next to the Three Palms roundabout which leads to Avenue Infante Dom Henrique. From the hotel, turn right down this road to go to the Old Town (10-15 mins) and turn left to get to the Strip (10 mins). It's a bit hilly so allow extra time to come back from the Old Town! There's a lot of work going on in Albufeira Old Town & beach and we preferred Oura beach. Go towards the Strip but turn right rather than left at the beginning. It's a beautiful beach with great views."

Forte Do Vale - Best hotel in a long time
"Forte Do Vale - This is a recent development and we stayed 1st week in March 2009. We were given a 1 bed apartment on the first floor comprising, large bedroom, kitchen/lounge, bathroom, balcony and loads of storage space. Daily maid service kept it pristine and the reception staff could not have been more helpful. This apart - hotel has all the facilities you would expect from a 4 star and being new was a bonus. It is possible to just see the sea from some balconies but this is not a sea view/beach front hotel. The location is central to new and old Albufeira with the more recent "strip" and restaurants about 15 minutes walk on the level. Watch out for the street touts who are doing "customer surveys" to see why more people are not going to the Algarve. The end result can be a long high pressure sale at a local Complex for "Infiniti Holiday Club" which just happens to be able to swap points with RCI. There are supermarkets nearby within 10 minutes walk. There are small nice beaches within a 10 minute walk downhill. Heading toward the old town is around 20 minutes and I have to say Albufeira is "work in progress". The old town pavements have been ripped up for new utilities but should be finished for high season. Also this is not an out of season resort as it rained 3 days out of 5 and without a car was a challenge to keep occcupied. We recommend a visit to Portuguese traditional village of Alte approx 30 mins drive through countryside and also the rich and famous playground of Vilamoura for golf and marina. Went to Praia de Rocha, nice beach but found high rise and strip, soulless and not to our liking. Overall we would go back to Forte Do Vale and stay again but when weather better."

Value for money
"After reading other reviews we agree with most of what has been said. We found out by accident that in order to use the washing machine you have to ask at reception for the door to be unlocked. There was no kettle, no iron or a board and drying facilities. we were the LONELY EATERS in the dining-room. Half board was very good value and we were surprised nobody staying at the Hotel ever use it, only the odd couple coming from other hotels. DO NOT EVER lose your apart-key because they will charge you for the lock to be replaced which has 8 monster tubes like the bank of England safe! Everyone very friendly and obliging and they speak very good English. Excellent"

It is Gorgeous!!
"This hotel really is 4 star, it was v quiet when we stayed as late in the season. However, it is luxurious. clean and everything you would expect from a 4 star establishment. Taxis to and from the centre are approx. 4 euros. We did not eat in the hotel as too many eateries we wished to try. Albufeira is a lovely resort, we enjoyed it hugely."

"We stayed at Forte Do Vale for a week in October and the apartments were fantastic.I would fully recommend them and would have no hesitation going back . We booked a one bedroom apartment and it was extremely spacious and spotlessly clean. The decor was bright and modern and everything was well finished. There was a small flat screen TV in the living room which had lots of English channels and a huge bed settee along with a table and chairs . The kitchen was well kitted out although there was no oven, only a hob and microwave and we did not have a washing machine. Despite this we were able to cook meals without any trouble and made use of all the equipment. There was a hob, microwave with grill , coffee maker , smoothie maker , dishwasher and a big fridge / freezer. The apartment was cleaned three times during the week we stayed and the towels were changed every day and the rubbish emptied daily. There were two main pools and a wee pool for very small children. The pool area was hosed and scrubbed down every morning and there were plenty of sunbeds and umberellas. The apartments are situated about half way between the old town and the new town and both were about a 10-15 minute walk away.As the pavements are cobbled and the way to the old town in particular is a little hilly people with walking difficulties may find this a difficult walk but taxis are not expensive. Both the old and new towns have lots of bars and restaurants and we thought the food was quite good but expensive due to the Euro. On average a main course for two plus a beer and water was around 50 euro. The beach was about a 10 minute walk away but it was well worth it as it was clean , had lots of little coves to sunbathe and had lifeguards . There is a small supermarket less than 5 mins away from the apartments and a larger one about 10-15 minute walk away up another hill. There are several nice restaurants around the apartments and a great bakery about 3 blocks away that do lovely breads and pastries. There were mainly couples staying when we were there and I think it would be best suited for people who want to relax but have nightlife nearby if they want it. The traffic did not bother us at all and our apartment looked onto the road and the pool area. We had a patio table and chairs and it was lovely to be able to eat outside during the day and at night. The staff at reception were all very friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. The transfer time from the airport was about 1 hour."

"Like I suppose all fellow guests I booked late given star rating and price. Boy am I glad I took the plunge. As earlier reviewers have said you cannot really go wrong here. Unlike them I booked a studio, being on my ownsome but ,unless a studio now has a separate bedroom and lounge, I was upgraded. The apartment was huge and contained everything you could need, No nasty shocks with having to pay for aircon or TV remotes or breakage deposits. There is a room safe but did not bother so do not know if a cost would be involved. A little confused because 4, I think ceramic, hobs and no other bits of cooker but I was told microwave doubled as grill/oven. By the way no mention of washing machine (no iron - so take if needed). As to the public areas the lobby is on a monumental scale (half of it with a 2 storey high atrium) and many faux marble columns and luxurious seating. Sauna/gym/indoor pool promised for early next year. Pure "gut feeling" but for family oriented viewers I suspect more for an adult only audience rather than a family one. Location: I am neither a young nor particuarly fit chap but would knock a minute or 3 off some of the earlier walking estimates but this would depend upon the route as well as the walking pace. But - Strip 5 mins(Wilde & Co), Praia Aveiros the same but remember we are talking about the north face of the Eigger for coming back! The Main Square 15 mins there but 20 mins back. The toy train passes the hotel but the nearest stop is a long way away so think taxis for return but at least cheap). Verdict: First time to Portugal and want now to split my 2 hols between there and Turkey each year. Have a finite amount of holiday money availabe but, all things being equal, I would like split it between somewhere in Icmeler and Forte do Vale."

"My husband and myself booked this hotel/apartment the day before we flew to Portugal, so it trully was a last minute holiday. As this is a brand new hotel (only opened in July) there wasn't any reviews online so we went into this one totally blind. However it has a four star rating and it was brand new so we thought how bad could it be???? The worst thing we expected was that there may still be some building work going on. This was not so, everything is beautifully finished to a high standard and it's just waiting for next season to really come into it's own. The location is good, 10 mins walk from the new town and about 20 mins walk to the old town. Personally we walked down into the old town and got the taxi back for only 3 euros. We would most definitely recommend this hotel and will certainly go back."

"The apartments are brand new - we were there two years ago and recall seeing them being built. They are approx 10 mins walk from the so called STRIP and 20-25 mins walk into the old town. Taxi fare to/from old town is 5 Euros. The apartment we had was divided into bathroom, large bedroom with two large single beds pushed together, living room, kitchen and balcony overlooking pools, Rue Dunfermline and the Tres Palmeiras roundabout. Apartments were spotless and maids came in every day to clean, change towels and remove rubbish, etc. It also has full cooking facilities, well at least a hob, microwave, coffee maker, juicer, toaster and, rather remarkably, a dishwasher !! As we had a westerly facing apartment we caught the Sun after midday but I can imagine the apartments at the rear, which do not overlook anything to write home about, would be cooler in high summer. Saying that, our gaff had aircon in both living space and bedroom so if we went back we would opt for a pool view. Others say it was noisy due to traffic but we did not find that at all. The beach is a pleasant ten minute walk away and, if you time the tide right, you can walk all the way into Albufeira along the beach. There is a bar/restaurant on the lower ground floor but with the abundance of eateries on the Strip and in the old town, we never used it and we only saw one other person in there during our week there, so can't really comment on the place. Staff were very pleasant at check-in and check out but that is the only time we encountered them. We would certainly go back again."
