Not a 5 star
"If you are looking for a 5-star break this isn't it! Majority, of the staff were rude, drinks are served in plastic cups and most of the time involves Queuing up for as does with meal times, food is very hit and miss! And sometimes cold, we experienced a 5/10 Minuit wait several times! It isn't very clean either dirty tables! overflowing waste bins! Not what I expected for a so called 5 star, the apartments are good, although beginning to look a little worn, shuttle service is limited, wouldn't return! Be sure to read all reviews before booking, "

Well I/we wanted to stay somewhere that was clean, safe, peaceful, where we could just relax and not have to worry cooking and cleaning! All this was found at Eden Resort.
We went all inclusive and stayed in a one bed apartment with lovely fixture and fittings. It was clean and very comfortable with a balcony which caught the sun. Although having said it was clean, the walls could have done with a lick of paint, as lounge walls had a few scuff marks on it, as did the sofa, but we put this down to the wear and tear over the earlier busy season, and would hope that apartments would have a âdeep cleanâ at the end of season to freshen up paint work and seating. The resort itself was kept very clean and tidy.
We found staff friendly and helpful, but felt that there should be more than one member of staff on Reception at a time, as on occasion there was a build up of holiday makers waiting to be dealt with. Probably a more comprehensive and accurate information sheet would help.
Meals were enjoyable (something different each day ie main meals: lamb, pork, chicken, pasta, fish, and a variety of salads) â everyone should find something to eat. You could also have a soup starter, dessert and a drink (either alcoholic or otherwise). There is also an area which opens for an hour late morning, afternoon and evening, where you can obtain snacks (hot or cold) when the main restaurant isnât open.
There is a free shuttle which goes to the Old Town (less than 5 minutes away) with bars, eateries, shops and the beach.
Location is reasonable, as it is not too far from the beach by the free shuttle bus. If you wanted to go further afield on a regular basis a car could be useful, but we found a day trip was sufficient which we arranged through Reception. Pick up was from Eden Reception. You could also travel by taxi to get around.
We did feel that WI-FI should be free, the free shuttle bus should be able to transport more 8 people at a time and entertainment in the bar area of the resort (for those who wanted it) should be advertised in advance.
We enjoyed our stay at Eden and would return.

Lovely place badly let down by some staff who could not care less
Four of us â me, my toddler, my sister and her young daughter â stayed at the Eden resort for 4 nights from Dec 13-17.
We got a good deal and booked it. Maybe if we had read some of the reviews sooner, we would not have so.
In any case, to highlight some of the positives of our stay there â the resort space is lovely, with great sized and well-laid out rooms. We found ours to be nice and clean, with plenty of space.
The private outdoor space was great too.
Some of the friendly, helpful staff we came across during our stay were Carlos, Douglas and a a couple of others, whose names, unfortunately, I do not know.
What we found let the place down hugely was the other staff and their complete lack of interest or care in the guestsâ stay.
We had requested a travel cot for our stay. We arrived just before 10pm on the first night to be told there was no travel cot as there was no mention of it in the booking. We had to chase it up the following day and eventually got one in the afternoon for the rest of the stay.
That was not too bad. We also had to chase up the hot water issue. That was eventually sorted a little bit.
The above was dealt with by someone at reception called Natasha, who was just about the most unfriendly hotel staff Iâve come across.
Like I said, we got a good deal on the break and we know what to expect/not expect in an all-inclusive package.
Food, as a lot of reviews said, was not the greatest at the Eden. Weâre vegetarian but we didnât have as much of a problem with the food itself (some of the staff were very helpful and made us pasta and pizza a few times); it was more so with the way certain staff dealt with requests. On the second afternoon, there was a nice, simple salad we had there and on another night we saw it was there again but with bits of meat in it. So we asked the very tall guy working in the restaurant if the kitchen could make that for us without the meat.
The absolute appalling response was that no, that could not be done, and we can do that ourselves! In any hotel weâve stayed in, regardless of how much weâre paying for it, weâve never had that. We were disgusted by that and so went to reception to see if we could speak to a manager about and find out if that was normal practice for a supposedly 5-star resort.
The rather abrupt Natasha told us the manager only came in the morning and had just left and asked if she could help us. It really didnât look like she cared but we went through the whole thing anyway. During this, I saw a manâs head pop round the door behind reception - when asked who that was, Natasha pretended not to know and insisted the manager had left. And then went on to make up some rubbish about how he *might* be back later in the afternoon and how he *might* come and see usâ¦.
What made me even more angry was that while I was talking to her, Natasha waved her arms up flippantly and said âWell, Iâm sorry you feel that way.â When I pointed out how dismissive that was, she had nothing really to say, apart from carry on looking as if we were taking up her valuable time. I was flabbergasted at such utterly poor service in hospitality.
The fact that she needed to go behind the door at reception and actually close the door each time spelt out there was clearly someone there. A manager that we had asked to see. By lying to us, she ended up making herself look ridiculous. And for the manager to pop his head round but not actually speak to usâ¦ what kind of a manager does that!? The whole thing is totally laughable if it was not so frustrating.
Another thing the helpful Natasha said she would do â we had to leave at 7.30 on our last morning and had requested some breakfast, just toast or something, we could grab before we left. Knowing full well we had a toddler and young child with us, she said she would sort it out. But at 7.30 the following morning, when we went to check out, there was nothing there for us â surprise surprise!!!!!
The guy (Juan) who was there, again really unfriendly and unhelpful, knew nothing about it.
In all the hotels you may have stayed at, have you stayed at one where you get no paperwork on checking out? No feedback form?
This was the first time we stayed in a place where there was nothing of the sort. I wonder why. We were actually given a feedback form the evening before but it got ruined and we had to throw it away. Unfortunately, Juan was not able to give us another one.
It may have just gone in the bin anyway.
It was the first time we visited your country and you can imagine the impression we now have of some of the people there. It would not put me off visiting Portugal again, but I certainly do not have very positive things to say to friends and family here about the Eden resort.
I have taken the time to write a long email outlining some of the things I think were particularly awful. To reiterate, I have never ever experienced customer service of this sort. It will be interesting to see if you bother to respond or not and if you do, what you have to say.

"me and my son have just come back from a 4 day brake at the eden resort 15/1/12 till 19/1/12 and i must say that we had a lovely few days. our apartment was lovely with plenty of space and clean. the apartment had everything we could of needed somthing we dont normaly get when you go all inclusive. the staff where lovely plesent and helpfull. the food was faily good and you can find something to eat. the pool area is clean and warm. all in all fantastic place to stay and i will be back again!
down sides if i have to find any* if you arrive after 10pm even if you all inclucive you will not be served food! we ordered a pizza it was ok!
*the old town and beach were lovely and worth a visit and the weather was bloody hot plenty of sun..."

Paradise - still undergoing creation
"The Eden Resort is NEW and has that lovely clean, fresh feeling. Buildings are cheerfully painted, Pool areas attractive, Roads smooth, Footpaths well laid out and well lighted, Little shop reasonably priced. Staff are friendly although you do get the feeling that they are under pressure whether it be from inexperience at running such a huge complex or because of under-staffing.
When we arrived about 3.30pm there was initial confusion about how many suites we had reserved. We had a short wait while two suites were sorted, not adjoining as requested but at least near each other.
The suites are fabulous. They have a bedroom, sitting room and dining area, bathroom, well laid out kitchen, good sized balcony. All rooms are large and air-conditioned. The TV is more than adequate, but don't expect many English speaking stations. The Internet is available on your TV, but trying to use it with the buttons on the remote proved difficult and slow. (On the last morning an engineer came to check the internet performance and told me that you can get a keyboard : pity this is not made clear. In fact there is no guide to use of the TV/Internet in the rooms.) You can also check your bill from day to day on your TV screen for extras you have charged to your room.
And when the wonderful Algarve sun switches to the front, you can enjoy the comfort of a front 'balcony' area complete with little table and two cushioned chairs.
How could the rooms be improved? Shelving in the bathroom seems to have been overlooked with towels taking up the single under-washbasin shelf. In the interests of safety, the bath area needs support rails or handles. The shower is over the bath and there is an obvious risk involved, especially because the bath does not have a non-slip surface or mat. As for the rest of the rooms, they are great. (A washing machine in the kitchen would be a bonus.)
I had read reviews on Tripadvisor which suggested that the food was not up to expectations. Unfortunately this was our experience too on the first evening with later than advertised opening and substandard hot food. This led us to eat out in town on the second night and we enjoyed a lovely meal in one of the many diners/bars. However, we did risk the resort's evening meal on the following evening and it was very good. The same applied on the following evening when we enjoyed the best of fish etc. You can have soup, cold starters, main courses and several desserts. On some evenings a good array of fresh fruit was also available. Well done!
The '5' Pools mentioned in some blurb turned out to be 3 and one of these was not in use. I was surprised at how late people arrived to poolside to avail of umbrellas and loungers. The Resort provides large towels at the pool when you produce your 'towel card'. You return the towel and you get your room numbered card back. Beware of losing it as there is a â¬25 fine.
The extensive footpaths within the Resort are ideal for walking - even taking you through little 'estates' and past the pools. However, the same kind of paths leading for a couple of hundred from the Resort to the main road are largely overgrown. And many grilles are missing from the drains on the road's edge, a danger for traffic and pedestrians. On the other hand this carelessness is reflected on the public footpaths which had regular sections missing where workmen had removed cobbles in order to fit large concrete panels which celebrate the City of Albufeira. There were no barriers or warning signs as we would find at home. It takes about 20 minutes to walk into the old town. There is a Resort minibus available at pre-booked times each day (Book 24 hours in advance) but it takes only 8 passengers. It seems a pity to offer such a poor service. The bus could run in and out in a few minutes and repeat this several times to meet demand. But then, it is again a question of availability of staff - the driver is also a pool attendant. Taxis cost â¬4 to â¬5 approx and are generally available through reception. The receptionists are very helpful and have good English.
It would be very helpful to have a car during your stay at Eden. Parking facilities are good. Security is good. If you need reliable transfer from the airport, I recommend faroairporttransfers. We were met by a driver with our name on a card. And the comfortable car arrived on time to take us back to the airport.
Enjoy Albufeira and do call into the Breffni Bar as you enter the Old Town! And you will enjoy the Eden Resort."

beautiful facilities badly let down being disorganised and with some poor staff
"We went to Eden the month after its 'soft opening'. The apartments were fantastic and very comfortable and modern. The facilities were all brand new and first class. There was free wi-fi throughout the site and the young staff were in the main very helpful and enthusiastic. The apartments were cleaned every day to a high standards and the facilities within the apartment were all top notch.
There were several things that did let the resort down:-
1. EVERY morning after 10 am they ran out of almost everything at the buffet breakfast. They seemed genuinely surprised every morning that the same number of people came into the restaurant and the staff ( who all insisted on telling you with a shrug of their shoulders that they were only students doing summer work) were charmless and disinterested. There were not even enough tables available and there were frequent queues.
2. It was advertised as being within walking distance to town and the supermarkets. It most definitely wasn't for anyone with young children. Taxis were reasonably cheap but...
3. The resort had little to no entertainment on site and almost all guests wanted to go into the town in the evening. The hotel seemed to have a contract with one taxi firm and we all had to wait for at least an hour for the taxis to arrive. By the end of the week everyone had sourced their own taxi firms and rang them directly which eased the congestion slightly but you would have thought that the resort could have resolved this issue themselves.
4. The resort was not finished. They carried on building a swimming pool right outside our balcony but to be fair disruption was kept to a minimum.
5. There was however a shortage of sunbeds and pool space with this pool not being finished on time and there were several frayed nerves as young families couldn't access the pool some days. Unfortunately the female pool attendant was the most confrontational and unhelpful individual - I don't think that there was anyone at the resort who we spoke to that hadn't been insulted by her!
All in all the resort should be able to sort all these issues out in the passage of time and the setting and accommodation was first class.
One final warning though -the majority of the promotional pictures are computer generated and don't all necessarily reflect what we found at the resort."

Perfect for relaxing!!
"As a couple we were looking for a holiday of nothing but rest and relaxiation, therefore here is our review of Eden Resort:
We were a little sceptical before arriving given the resort is still so new and had only been open for a matter of weeks before we arrived. Upon our arrival, we found reception wasn't sign posted all that well, but once in, we were tended to very well.
We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which was beautiful and finished to a very high standard. Any issues that had been raised in earlier reviews about air con not working seem to have been recitified as we had no such issues. Their are still workman working on the resort as roughly half of the apartments are still being finished.
We found that the restaurant was a little hectic at times, particularly at breakfast and that the staff lacked experience and management to maintain a high level of service, though they did their best of which you can ask of no more. The staff do not speak fluent English, therefore communication at times was a little challenging. I am sure these are just teething problems as they are young group of people that seem to have been given the task of tending to all the guests needs.
1 of the 3 pools advertised was not open, therefore we had a choice of 2, the main pool, which had music, games etc on throughout the day and a smaller and quieter pool to choose from. We found the quieter pool more to our liking due to wanting to avoid lots of children. The resort did seem to have a lack of loungers available for all the guests on site, something that I hope the management recognise over the coming weeks as no doubt the resort will gain in popularity. A little grumble we had was for all the pools which will be open on this resort there is only one pool bar, which is next to the main pool, therefore getting a drink or an ice cream requires a small trek if you are not lounging by the main pool. The pool bar closes at between 5.30 and 6 dependant upon how busy they are which I felt was a couple of hours too early based on a resort of this size.
For a resort which offers self catering facilities the on site mini market was not stocked very well,with day to day food which we are accustomed to having in the UK and was not always open. Again I put this down to teething problems.
This resort is not within 15 minutes walking distance to Albufiera as is mentioned on some literature. We can personally verify that having walked into the center of Albufiera on an evening. It is a hilly walk and the paths still need to be finished, in the heat which approached 35 degrees most days made the journey hard work and very tiring. I would therefore recommend either taking a taxi or booking yourself on the daily transfer offered by the hotel.
All the above were minor issues, which in time will be resolved, so please do not let these minor issues put you off. The resort is probably 6 months away from having all the views/ facilities up and running to the high standard required for such a stunning resort.
I would recommend this resort to anyone wanting to get away for a nice relaxing holiday."

"This resort is an excellent choice for families or couples. Quiet & very peaceful. Apartments are very spacious & beautifully decorated, also very clean. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful and I would definitley recommend this resort to people. We travelled into both new town & old town & both cost around 5 euro in a private taxi."

Great to relax
"This hotel is perfect for relaxing, as the apartments are lovely and clean, spacious, and new!! The pools are clean and plenty of sunbeds and hammocks around them. Only problem is location, a bit far out from town for walking and the roads are very hilly and unfinished,but for under 5euros, you can easily get a taxi.
I would definately return here, it is a beautiful resort!"

"My husband and I returned home on Tuesday the 29th of June after staying at the Eden resort for a week. I would highly recommend this resort for couples and families, the appartments are first class, very spacious modern and well equiped, with plasa TV internet access and an i pod docking station. All free of charge to use. We decided to go all inclusive for the week, which would be my only complaint, the week started off well with ice cream included as well as crips nuts etc through out the day. However after the 3 rd day we were told that these were no longer included and only available between 11.30 and 12.30 and 4.30pm to 6pm. Then we were told that crisps and nuts were no longer at all, and as they had replaced the ice creams which included cornetto magnum and solero!! it would now be scoop ice cream.
We didnt let this spoil our holiday as it was so new and just teething problems, the staff are very friendly although the english is not great we managed okay. The swimming pools are very clean always a sun bed available and hammocks to sit in, and plenty of umbrellas were also available to.
I would strongly recommend a visit to this resort before the prices go up which they are bound to very good value for money and I plan to retun in a couple of years to see how things have changed."

If you want to loose weight then go All Inclusive!
"My boyfriend & I have just returned from a one week holiday at the Eden Resort. I totally agree with the comments made on other reviews in respect of the high quality of the apartments and the cleanliness of the pool areas and in fact all public areas. We were the first to stay in our Aparment (129) which was superb. However, the food and service really lets this resort down. We took the all inclusive option - not to be recommended. The food from the pool snack bar is limited and basic and sadly the staff there really don't enjoy their work, not one smile all week!!! At the start of our week the all inclusive was all inclusive between set times however as the week progressed what we could have changed on a daily basis and the hours in which we could have these refreshments reduced - for example the all inclusive at the Bar (there is only one bar other than the pool bar which is not open on an evening) finished at 10pm!!!! After 10pm you are charged for all your drinks!!!!! We did report our problems to the Restaurant Manager who was very nice but did not really accept any blame for the problems and in fact blamed our Travel Company. All this said the resort is new and hopefully the Management there will do there best to overcome these problems. This resort is fine for a chilled week in the sun on a Self Catering basis but is not suited at all to the All Inclusive market. Work is still on going but this did not cause any disruption to us. Please be aware that the 5 pools advertised consists of three pools (only two opened at the moment) and two childrens splash pools, fees are payable for the use of the tennis courts, rackets, etc no matter what board basis you have paid for. The Old Town is a 10 - 15 min walk away and no more than a 5 min taxi ride, cost 4 - 5 euros. Prices in the Old Town are reasonable."

Pleasant stay, quality rooms and great location!
"The resort is amazing and the location is great, 15 min walk to the old town where there is a wonderful beach and 5 minute taxi to the strip for about 4 euros. Very friendly staff. There was some confusion about shuttle bus procedures and times but this hotel is brand new so we put it down to teething problems. But the hotel does run a free shuttle to and from the old town which is very handy. Overall we are very happy with out stay at the eden resort and would recommend it to couples or groups as the apartments are very spacious."
