not what was expected
"We recently stayed at the valmangude "4 star" accomodation in albufeira, def by no means it was 4 star, it was prob 2 star, rooms were clean but extremly basic...there was no toaster (and u could not rent 1) or no kettle. I have never stayed anywhere that the noise carried as much, the app next to us we could clearly here them using the toilet so obviously they could here us as well! The beds were made every day and towels changed tho. The info the hotel states about location to beaches etc is clearly wrong, it is not 800m to nearest beach it was at least 20 mins walk which we were disappointed to find out. In saying that the pool was v nice the only down side being it was very expensive for drinks and food, â¬5 for a burger on its own. Strip is bout 10 mins away and old down 20 mins. Quite an expensive hol and we only had 2/3 drinks a nite, we spent the same here as 2 wks in ibiza last yr. Breakfast & lunch cost between 15 and 20 a day, and dinner anythin between 30-60. One wk was def enough in albufeira, money wise and everything, was in portugal twice before and i noticed a massive diff in price this time, def no more portugal for us! Hotel staff were polite tho but there was no such thing as goin back to the app's for a drink, there was no buzz about, i think i only saw one to two people drink there..."

Good pool poor accommodation
"We stayed here in August 2009. Pool was excellent for the children. Location couldn't have been better, close to shops, bus route etc... The hotel is a nice size, not too big and rowdy. The staff were courteous and friendly. However, the accommodation was below standard. The decor was shabby, the bathroom, tiles and all were given a coat of gloss paint. Fittings were old and the wear and tear was showing. TV was a small portable sitting high on wall bracket with dodgy controls. Sofa bed was broken and kept up with a rough piece of timber just nailed to bed! Not the best range of cutlery or kitchen ware. Having said that, the location was good and the children really enjoyed the pool and grass area.Ask at reception and hire a bicycle for a few days. While we would go back to Albufeira we wouldn't stay again at Valmangude. "

"We stayed here from 17 oct until 24 oct, weather was in the 30s, staff very polite , the small bar was kept open until late evening even though we seemed to be the only ones using it, plenty snacks through the day , location , ideal , we are pensioners and it allowed us to walk to most areas around Albufeira, the local circular bus service was also near at hand for journeys more farther afield, pool area at this time of year was half full so no need for the obligatory towels on beds carry on, one incident when a group of everton supporters let themselves down , by causing a disturbanse in the early hours , but it was dealt with very quickly and the place quietened down again"

"Ive just come back from this hotel after 4 days on a Hen Party. The rooms are fantastic and for 4 girls all getting ready for a night out its plenty. The pool is very spacious and with lovely clean water and the pool side bar is great value for money. Based on what I went there for it was 10 out of 10 however, if I was travelling with my husband and daughter then I would not stay here due to them taking hen and stag do's on. There was a stag do there when we were and it was nt something your children would want to see however fine for couples or single sex groups. If you ve got a hen or stag do go here!!!!!!"

"Iâm just back from the Valmangude apartments. There nice apartments & are very spacious, all apartments have pool view, there quite enough, not much entertainment at night. Itâs very relaxing by the pool and all staff are all very friendly. The pool bar is ok, the toilets are not very clean so I would suggest you use the toilets in your apartment or in the actually apartment block. Its great for kids, they can stay in the pool until about 8pm. The apartments are a great location about a 7 minute walk from the beach & strip and there are other bars & restaurants close by. "

"There were 6 of us travelled altogether, with my 2 children 3 and 8 years old, for a weekâs holiday at the end of June. The hotel and apartment was very spacious and clean. The hotel staff were very friendly and polite. The pool bar offered a variety of reasonably priced food. Both pools were great for the kids. I'd definitely use these apartments again. The only downside is the noise from the traffic on the road directly outside, but that didn't spoil the holiday. Its location is great for getting on to The Strip and into Albufeira old town. Would definitely recommend these apartments. Really enjoyed holiday."

Valmangude was very good value for money...
"Valmangude was very good value for money, the rooms were much bigger than we expected! The staff were friendly and helpful. the pool area was very nice and calm, and the bar in the evening was quite entertaining, but other bars and clubs are a very short walk away on the strip, where there's something for everyone. The walk to the beach was also much shorter than expected from the descriptions, and the local bus to the old town was very cheap. It was suitable for young people (like me and my friends), couples and families."

"Iâve just come back from one of the best and most relaxing holidays Iâve had. The staff at the hotel were friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and very nice. The pool area was excellent, cleaned everyday and the snacks were nice and reasonably priced. Entertainment was ok but there are plenty of bars and restaurants locally and a great Chinese restaurant across the road. Albulfeira is beautiful plenty to do for families lovely beaches. I will definitely go back there again with my family whom also enjoyed it!"

Dirty, grotty and noisy
"The Resort is awful, full of lager louts who have nothing better to do on their holiday then get drunk. The place is ugly too, turn down the wrong street and it feels like you are in bay route! There is graffiti everywhere, and the smell of the bins and grids is unbearable. The only plus side is the beach, that is lovely. Well worth watching the sun set over the old town. We preferred the old town to the strip. The strip is very much like Blackpool, dirty and full of dodgy bars. The old town is more typically Portuguese, but once again, stick the main areas. Now the Apartments. They are dirty and the staff were totally rude and unhelpful. We were placed in a room (204) where the patio door and the main door didnât shut properly, and was over the bins. We asked for a move, and had to wait 2 days before they agreed. The next room we moved to (214), was only slightly better, at least the door shut! The maids do not clean very well, in fact all they do is sweep the floor and make the beds. The kitchen surface was not cleaned once during the 2 weeks of our holiday - seriously! Also donât ask for a wake up call. We and several other guests asked for one on our day of departure, this was not done. Their excuse was "I forgot". I seriously wouldnât recommend these apartments. They are surrounded by 3 very, very busy roads, and it is very difficult to sleep (along with having lumpy pillows). Also groups of drunken lads walk past singing until way past 5am. Also the swimming pool, was dirt, there was sand covering the bottom of it, and that was there for the whole 2 weeks. We spent most of the time at the beach. I wouldnât recommend the reps trips either, went to Seville (the shops closed until 5.30pm for Siesta just as we got there), Jeep Safari (jeeps are not open top, and drive on the normal roads), first choice fun cruise (secluded beach was a busy beach full of litter, and the barbeque was abysmal)."

I thought the resort itself was good but...
"I thought the resort itself was good but just the accommodation was rubbish. The pools was a good size and lovely views from the windows but the apartment when we went in it was not clean and the showers and bath was disgusting it was like rust on the walls and the toilet seat was always creaking so when someone needed to go toilet in the night everyone had to wake up for it. The staff was very polite and very helpful. In this stay you have everythink there including English internet, 2 pools, pool bar, television, lifts, games room -1 etc. I really enjoyed getting out of the apartment because the maids was not cleaning it properly and i was disgusted. In the night the entertainment went on until 4am in the morning so you would not be able to sleep even on the top floor and the children would be up all night. The pools shut at 7pm so the children could not be able to stay in the pool at night if they have nothing else to do the drinks were expensive and couldnât afforded it every night."

"date 15 th june to 29th june was disapointed to learn the shuttle bus had been stoped the appartment nice and big the cleaners did a good gob .have to say it was the most noseiest place i have ever stayed at the poeple upstairs started to get on my nerves and my familys we had water chucked over our balconey a couple of times it hit myself and daughter got quite angery and let them know it . the food was lovley at the club house and the people was very friendley could not do eough for you .entertainment not very good for chirldren i think the best thing there for goung kids was the swimming pools .the weather was lovely though it gets chilly at night so take a cardi. i would personally not stay at the hotel again beacuse there is nothing for the goungters at night plus its to far away from the towns you have to do a lot of walking or as in our case take taxis as there was 6 of us it cost a lot of money to get a bout .the excursions was value for money zoomarine is fantastic my daughter swam with the dolphins would recomend this outing also splash and slide can not fault albuferia for a holiday and will go back again but not at the jardim1 to far out of the way"
