Good hotel but nothing to do in the evenings
"Returned after 2 weeks with 2 children aged 12 and 10. Hotel very good-rooms spacious and very clean. Arrived mid morning and room made available for us by 12-00.We were stayong half board but facilities in room were more than adequate forself catering. Pool area excellent. The pool itself was huge and never felt crowded despite the fact we were there in August. The children thought the slides were fantastic and spent hours in there. This area had a lifeguard on duty all the time the slides were open. We liked the bonus of an indoor pool as well particulalrly when it was really hot and wanted to escape the sun for a bit! People did reserve sunbeds but you could usually get some in the morniing without having to get up too early/ The food was okay-having stayed in 4*hotels previously would debate whether it was up to the same standards..There was always plenty of choice but after 2 weeks the food did start to taste a bit the same. Disappointed by the quality of the children's buffet which normally consisted of cheap chicken nuggets, burgers and fish fingers. We liked the fact that you could eat outside and found the restaurant staff to be friendly and hard working. Evening entertainment was poor-a Michael Jackson impersonator and magician were the highlights-say no more! Agree with other comments we read that location not great as nothing around except other hotels. We hired a car (from Panda Cars at the end of the Strip-would recommend as reliable, slightly cheaper and even delivered to the hotel) which allowed us to explore area more. The coastline was beautiful especially aroung Lagos and we were able to go to the Old Town in Albufeira at night easily without having to wait ages for a taxi. Beach Luisa Maria which was a10 min walk away was lovely and we managed to find large area to ourselves even in August. Overall thought hotel was lovely but not sure we'd return again as is becoming all inclusive which doesn't appeal to us as a family."

"Stayed at the Alfagar 11 from the 5th to 19th of August. I must say these were the best apartments that we have ever stayed in spotlessly clean, cleaners worked hard to ensure this.We had paid a bit extra for a sea view and got a huge apartment with both sea and pool view. There is a fully equiped kitchen with full oven, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, microwave and so on.There were three full size patio doors in our apartment and a huge balcony with a table and 4 chairs and two sun beds. The pool was great with a seperate kids area and another area with slides. There were a great variety of restaurants on site, the buffet in the Alfagar 11 and the pool snack bar and a snack bar in alfagar 1 and an ala carte restaurant, we ate in all of them over the course of two weeks and we found the quality of food to be very good and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and always on hand to help and our rep Lauren was lovely and very helpful and friendly. The outside area by the bar had sofas and decking and was very comfortable. The entertainment at night wasnt great but was adequite, my daughter went to wavelenght and thought the girls were very nice and she got a card posted through the door the day before we left to say goodbye and safe home etc, I thought this was a lovely gesture. We did eat in the new town on most evenings as we found it difficult to get a taxi from the old town, you could be waiting anything up to an hour for a cab home in queue and this seemed to be at any time of the day. We did find a lovely restaurant in the new town called Restaurant Doris straight across from where the train stops. Great holiday."

mostly great tho needs a fewimprovements to make it truly 4star
"travelled as couple with 2 kids 10 + 5 with First choice in 1st 2 weeks school hols. Had read a lot about the complex and was pleasantly suprised with the standard of accommodation in aparthotel. Arrived mid morn and expected delay to room til 2pm, reception staff apologetic, waited around pool bar for couple hrs, very pleasantly suprised to receive upgrade to 2bed apartment from booking 1bedder. Apartment was huge! Very spacious, lovely side sea view, away from busy pool face area, spotless, pretty comfy beds, iron, iron board, hairdryer - wish I'd known wouldn't have brought own! 1st week fairly quiet, kids loved slides and splash pool, main pool very nice. Only negative is inadequate sunshades. Particulaly prob for families arriving 2nd week with lotsa kids. Hotel beach not the best esp if fear of heights to get to, but very close maria louisa beach great - easy 10min walk. Half board - brekkie usual fare, fine, dinner hit + miss, sometimes good sometimes bland ++ though we not fussy eaters + enjoyed few lovely meals out in nearbly olhosd'agua for change. Bit of a trek for eve strolls to anywhere but taxis to Old town + olhos d'agua only 4 - 5e . Staff in reception + restauarant friendly + helpful. Highlight of hols fantastic speedboat dolphin trip with Sunsation co. booked via reception. Best speedboat + skipper by far in marina. Found school of 25 + dolphins. 1st visit to algarve - will def return as people + places+ weather great. Hated 'the strip' but each to their own! Overall all really good hols - kids happy - parents happy!"

Lovely hotel but a little remote
"There are far more positives than negatives for Alfagar 2. We were on a half board basis and this is a good option to go for. We paid a little extra to have a sea view which in this instance means being on a higher floor. The room was excellent and it was tastefully presented in a clean and contemporary style. We had a wonderful terrace with glass screen so that we could enjoy an uninterrupted view from the loungers. Aircon was a blessing as it was very hot during our stay and the rooms were comfortable at all times. There is a very good pool complex but we did find that the usual idiotic practice of bagging a sunbed with a towel prevailed and more annoyingly it appeared that quite a few people staying at Alfagar 1 were coming over to use the beds and facilities. This meant that often beds were unavailable due to this monopolisation and the hotel needs to address this. The pools were excellent and also the tube slides were brilliant. The beach is a walk through Alfagar 1 and then down some quite steep stairs and tracks down to Santa Eulalia beach. The beach is charming and there is a long stretch of sand which accommodated the beach users without a feeling of crowding. The sea was a bit cold on occasions and not too bad on others but it is the Atlantic!! The steps on the way back are hard going and those with young children or mobility problems might find it a challenge. We found the food excellent and there was always a good selection for both breakfast and evening meal. A nice touch is that soft drinks are free with the meal and a large beer was only e2.50. The Alfagar supermarket was cheap enough for lunch such as rolls and fruit which suited us. The hotel has entertainment on some nights but it has to be said it is a little amateurish, The position of the hotel is a little remote and there is nowhere comfortable to go for an evening stroll. The nearest group of bars and shops are about 20 minutes away down a busy main road that is quite undulating. There is a busy area called 'The Strip' which is a little further on. walkable but an E4 cab ride. It is a road full of bars and a few shops and it did not appeal to us as it the sort of place that hen and stag nights go to and we found it a little unsavoury. Albufeira old town is very charming and worth a visit but it is probably worth getting a taxi. This was our first visit to the Algarve and i am glad I did not bother with a hire car as there is just not much to look at if you do not play golf. So our main complaint is with the location I guess but overall this had no negative affect to our holiday, we just felt a little cut off in the evenings."

A Fantastic Family Holiday
"Just returned from a 2wk stay in Alfagar II, it was a fantastic holiday and one that I would recommend to anyone. The Hotel was clean, excellant friendly staff, accommodating and very modern and stylish. The rooms were clean, spacious and had everything you could need in them ranging from coffee makers, hairdryer, iron and ironing board to bottle opener! There is a maid service 6 days a week as cleanliness is one of the hotels assets. We were half board which suited us with a 7month old and a 4 yr old. The buffet style food was excellant, good choice available, always replenished quickly and very tasty. The snack bar by the pool served excellant food in the daytime, although the service was a little slow at times. I would advise sending someone ahead of the family to place the order whilst the rest of the family remained around the pool! There was very little entertainment at night time which was a disadvantge especially with children who dont particularly want to walk far at night. Although the entertainment that was on was quite good and past a few hours for the kids. The Kids club was excellant and the staff were really helpful and very friendly. The Rep at the hotel (Lauren) was also excellant and was always on hand for assistance if needed. The holtel is suutuated a 20 min walk either way to bars etc so with children it is a long long walk or we found taxi's to be the best choice (just make sure you go before 7 or after 8 from the hotel. Overall it was a fantastic holiday and I want to be back there now! I would recommend aa trip to Zoomarine too, its great fun for the family. The warm up clown was the best entertainment for myself and my partner! Once you have seen him you will understand why!"

Superb accomodation and location
"Went with husband and two 16 year olds. they had their own room. Rooms were superb.Food, quality and variety was great. One problem-people are allowed to reserve sunbeds with towels, people were out at 6am putting their towels out. Hotel should stop this practice. Would recommend"

"I have just returned from a weeks' stay at the Alfagar II in the Algarve with my husband, 5 year old son and 23 month old daugther. We have had a fantastic time. The hotel is gorgeous, plenty to occupy the kids in the day with their own mini waterpark/splash park and baby pool. The adult pool also really inviting. The rooms are really spacious and finished to an extremely high standard. Air conditioning in all rooms. We had paid the supplement for a sea view and this is exactly what we got. Completely central to the pool and overlooking the sea, the balcony was huge! Snack bar around the pool area provides gorgeous lunchtime snacks, drinks and icecreams. We stayed on a half board basis and the breakfast and evening meals were of great quality with plenty of choice, even for kids. Our only regret was that we didn't book up here for 2 weeks, we were all very sad to be coming home. Would definiately go back and would definiatley recommend to anyone. The resort is about 5 mins taxi ride from Old Town and costs around 6 euros, there is also a shuttle bus running several times from the hotel costing about 80 cents. A trip to Slide and Splash Waterpark is definiately recommended, a fantastic day out for the whole family. An all round brilliant holiday."

Fantastic hotel with great facilities
"Just back from the Alfagar II aparthotel and we had a fantastic holoday. Myself, my husband and two children (age 4 and 8) stayed for one week and had a brilliant holiday. The hotel is very clean and definately deserving of the four star status. We stayed on a half board basis therefore we had breakfast and evening meal. The food was buffet style and I really can't fault it. They had a great range of meals available and they were delicious. And for picky children they had the usual-chicken nuggets, burgers etc. The rooms were spacious with a fully equiped kitchen and a spacious veranda. The maid service was excellent and the rooms were always kept clean with fresh towels. The different pools offer something for everyone. The large adult pool was gorgeous and very welcoming when baking in the 30+ degree heat. The smaller childrens pool was perfect for younger children as it wasn't very deep. They also had a great pool for older children with 5 slides which kept my children entertained for hours!!! The supermarket on site is slightly expensive but grand for smaller items. There is a supermarket across the road from the hotel (about 100yards to the right) which is marginally cheaper. The staff were really friendly and accommodating and definately made you feel welcome. The entertainment on site is quite good too, something on every night. We travelled with first choice so had access to the kids club on site. What a God send!!! Nutty Natalie, exciting Eilis and loopy Leigh were great with the girls and had lots of activities for them to do- they made our holiday!!!! All in all we had a fantastic time and we were all very sad coming home (wished we'd booked for 2 wks!!) Will def book for next year again and have started lookng into already!!!"

You will not find a better hotel!!
"Stayed at the Alfager II from the 1st - 8th July and i have to say its one of the best hotels ive ever stayed in! Hotel is brand new and the rooms are huge! Each room has a seperate air conditioning unit in there so was a welcome relief from the 40oc heat outside! Kitchen had eveything you needed and yet again all state of the art. Food was ok, not a big selection but there was something to eat every night - breakfast was the same. I think taxis are a must if your going into either the old or new town as its quite a distance but only costs around 5euros. Old town great for food - lots of restaurants. New town good if you want to stay out until 6 in the morning - something i did a little bit too much! I would have no hesitation comming back here and would recommend it too anyone!"

Great holiday - would go back next year
"On arriving we were advised we couldn't check until 2pm-4pm however we arrived at 12.30pm and our room was ready for 2pm so not too much of an issue. We went for a walk on the evening and I wasn't impressed with the area, nothing really around apart from other hotels and nearest restaurants are about a 20 mins walk down a very busy road which isn't good with a toddler who prefers to walk than go in a pushchair. The ocation would have been an issue if the hotel wasn't very nice however we loved it. The food was very good for half board as I don't normally rate half board unless its at a 5 star hotel. Always a very good choice and replenished often, the staff are very friendly and always happy to help. The hotel is very clean and the pool is good for children as has toddler pool and pool with slides. I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you don't have children as lots of children round the pool but it was great for our first holiday abroad with our 2 year old. I liked being half board but still having apartment facilities. Coul do with a bit more entertainment as good on some nights."

"Stayed at the Alfagar aparthotel in June. We stayed in an apartment but were half board. The apartment was perfect....all brand new and spotlessly clean. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful..especially the restaurant staff. The food was very good and plenty of choice. On request they would prepare a childrens meal so everyone was happy. You also get a free soft drink or water with dinner. The onsite shop is very reasonable and again friendly staff. Pools are lovely. My son started at the kids club for 9 - 15 year olds...he was the oldest one there as it appears this was a new thing however he had fun. Just 2 gripes about the holiday...the towels should be changed 5 times a week and we had to speak with the rep and reception to get this sorted as we arrived on Thursday and towels werent changed until Monday. The other thing is that you are not near anything so unless you enjoy walking or taxi's it might not be for you. On the whole a great holiday...also a great first choice rep."
