Holiday from Hell!
"We have just returned from our holiday to Portugal to the Dom Pancho hotel in Albeferia. I have to tell you it was nothing short of a holiday from hell. Every single night we were woken up anytime between 2am and 4am, some nights for 2 hours at a time. There was at least 4 or 5 groups of stag parties in the hotel from England, one of which consisted of 50 men. They ran through the corridors at night shouting and chanting, banging on doors as they went. Baricaded up doors along the corridor with suitees and left empty waste all along the way. I have to tell you this was very frightening at that time of night when you have a young baby. We complained to the hotel while we were there, along with many other people staying in the hotel at the time, but nothing was done about this. During the day these stag parties drank by the pool chanting football songs all day long. My problem is that this hotel obviously always takes bookings for stag and hen parties, and does not seem to care that the rest of the guests are woken up constantly during the night. I really wish you had not recommended this hotel to me. Our first holiday with our baby was a complete nightmare. I definately would not recommend this hotel to anyone."

"My family stayed at this hotel for 10 nights. 3rd - 13th August. Hotel was excellent. Would go back again. Not too far from the strip - maps available at hotel reception. The old town is even better but is a taxi ride instead of a walk. No to Spain next year back to Portugal!!! Staff were very helpful and friendly."

"Don pancho is great hotel which is based in the algarves, self catering is cool but you have to get your own food, the pool sometimes is warm and sometimes cold, before you go you may need a portugeese book."

Nice Hotel in good location
"Nice hotel, only shop walk to the strip and the beach. Reception staff friendly and helpful as were the bar staff who make fantastic cocktails! Resturant in the hotel do a nice, good value meal and there is also many places to eat not far from the hotel - stone steak is a good choice for an evening meal, many of the restuarants do this and there is also lots of places for a cooked breakfast in the morning. Room very nice, only things that let it down slightly is that there is no elcetric kettle so you have to wait ages for water to boil on the hob and cleaners don't come everyday and when they do come they don't wash up mugs/cups (and no washing up liquid sponge is provided in the room kitchen). "As it was a last minute booking I wasn't very sure about the accommodation but when we arrived at the hotel the receptionist was very polite and helpful. The accommodation was very nice and clean. The swimming pools were well looked after. Food served in the restaurant was good but could do with more varieties especially for vegetarians. The location is very good as you've got shops, restaurants and the beach within walking distance. I was very happy with hotel accommodation, services offered by the hotel and the staff. If I have the chance to visit Potugal again then Don Pancho will be my chosen hotel."

"Great hotel in a good location! The Strip is only a 5 minute walk away and the beach about 15, and with the Old Town and Marina both within bus/taxi distance everything is really easy to get to. The rooms are a decent size - the kitchen has basic utensils with a fridge/freezer and microwave (but no kettle) and each room has a balcony with a good view. The pool was also a good size - quite popular but not overly packed. The resteraunt and bar is probably the only thing that lets this hotel down - there isnt much choice and its expensive. However there are loads of bars and resteraunts within minutes which offer great prices - I highly reccommend the mexican round the corner. Overall a place we'd stop again."

"Don Pancho Is not a bad Hotel,But the lady in reception was not very pleasant or helpfull. She would'nt phone my transfer company to see when we where to get picked up, If you wanted a sunny room she said you have to pay extra for the sun , a horrid person. Entertainment was a rubish Elvis does'nt sing he mimes to all the songs . Rooms are ok beds a bit hard. Dont book trips with Paradise Tours they take you on shopping trips and the shops are closed. Dont buy cigarettes from anybody except shops.people on streets and bars ask you to buy them but DONT. The good bits are it was sunny and thats why we went . "

"I stayed in the Don Pancho Hotel last week with my girlfriend for 7 days. My first trip abroad and I was more than satisfied with this venue, as a self catering apartment it was ok ... no chance of cooking, only toast and a cuppa but fine for wot we wanted as we ate out everynite in the old town about 10 min drive as we had a rental car, recommended! The staff were friendly with a smile, could of been more urgent, if they were chatting or doing some paper work you have to wait .. but when they get to you there more than friendly. The pool was coldish but its fine, its outdoors and not heated but in summer you wouldn't want that. Noisy bar at night so get a room high and far away :) 9/10 but it was my first experience! I'll be going back! 15 min walk from a busy beach, we rented a car from Eurocar no comment about them and drove to find quiet local beaches.. sometimes an hours drive, lands end (our beach ). Such a good holiday! Go try it yourself!"

"Spent two weeks at the Don Pancho in 2005 and we had a really great time. We stayed in a studio apartment which was nice and clean, although towels could be changed more often. The pool area was spacious with enough shaded areas for children. It also had a nice play area with slide and swings and a smaller pool for little ones. The snacks were good. Although prices were reasonable they were more expensive than other places. Entertainment wasn't great and was repeated weekly but the bar was still a friendly place with a good selection of drinks and a good atmosphere when enough people were in! Although the brochure clearly states no entertainment for children the hotel would have been much better with it, possibly a children's club. Staff were very friendly with the children making lots of fuss! The best place for breakfast has got to be Rumours. Great food, good prices and Jeff and Ian were very friendly blokes. The American Diner just left of the hotel was excellent with big portions and friendly staff. Also try Sr Frogs and Fredi's on the corner for excellent sword fish. Coconuts was a great family bar although the hypnotist was unable to hypnotise and the parrots wouldn't perform! There was plenty of games for the children to join in. Watch out for the 'go and grab' game where children were asked to get a chair resulting in my husband almost breaking his spine! Ha!! Take the Noddy train into old town which is very nice during day and lots of bars and places to eat at night. We ate at Asian Street kitchen which was very smart inside and good food. Need to use chopsticks though! Definitely worth visiting is the Zoomarine, with good shows and a 4-D cinema which was fantastic!! Also visit Aqua show Water Park which was a really good family day. I would DEFINITELY go back to Portugal and the Dom Pancho hotel the only problem being the many children's rides on the streets which cost me a fortune! Make sure you have plenty of Euros if you have little ones. "

"my sister and i booked our hotel at last minute and as we literallt left about a week after we booked it and got a very cheap deal we weren't expectin alot!! our expectations were completly outdone! the hotel was fantastic and our apartment wonderful, we had a beutiful view over the pool and then could see out 2 the sea! the apartment was clean and had everythin we needed for the week!! it was also in an great position so that we could walk 2 all the clubs, pubs and resteruants without being distrubed by the noise of them all! we were also close 2 all the pick up points 4 days out!!! the only bad thing i can say about it is, u can not pre-book a taxi unless u are travellin over 15 miles, so in the mornin we wnated 2 travel we were a bit worried as all the taxis were busy, not so much the hotels fault as the taxis! also at one point in the week we had a maintenence man come into our room whilst we were in it to measure it and put up nails! we felt this could have been done whilst we were out or after we had left the apartment! i also believe rooms without a pool view dont get such a spectacualr view! but overall awesome holiday!!!!"

Excellent all round apartment
"We stayed as a party of 3 girls for a hen weekend in late June. We had looked at the reviews on this site first, which were mixed but we took a gamle, and it paid off. We were very impressed with the staff, the apartment, the cleanliness, and the pool was large enough to actually swim in which is rare these days. The location was perfect, just a 5 minute walk to the strip (and we felt safe with the walk, which was an important factor for us) The beach was 10-15 minutes away, but we only went once because the pool area (and snack bar) were perfect. One thing I will say is there are not enough sun beds, but we went to the local shop and got 3 lilo's to lay on, so it was not a problem. If you want a good price apartment that is clean, well equipped and spacious, look no further."

noise noise and more noise
"We stayed at Dom Pancho for a week and during this time we experienced a few problems. Having read the other reviews i realise these must be of people who had a pool view room...lucky for them,as we didnt. We stayed on the back side to the hotel on the first floor,as i took my 1 year old daughter. Rooms were very clean i must admit, but on this side of the hotel we were awoke every morning around 2-3am by the metal bins being collected by the bin men. it sounded like they tipped the bins into the wagon and then got a large stick and started whacking the side of the bins for about 5mins. This was every night for a week. we asked if it was possible to move to another room specifically asing for a different side to the bins,as it was waking us and my daughter up. We were assured that there was a room and it WAS on a diff side to the hotel. so we packed our things and moved up to our new room, only to find it was on exactly the same side a few floors up and directly above the bins! As you can probably tell we were more than annoyed at the fact that we were told we would not have the same probem. we ended up moving again, yes on the same side but on top floor. stiil awoken by the bin men but too tired to argue again. We wouldn't have minded if the receptionists had told us the spare rooms were on the same side then we wouldnt have lost a whole day with this mess. Instead they moved us without telling us that it would make no difference. Staff were very unhelpful at the front desk and quite rude. They could not even phone a taxi to the nearest beach. Not a very good experience at this hotel at all. Good luck to anyone who does not get a pool side view :P Other than that loved the surroundings of the strip, restaurants etc. and the Zoo Marine is must for anyone!!! Fantastic day out."
