Excellent Value for Money
"Myself and my partner have recently returned from a fantastic trip to these lovely apartments. We booked for my birthday through alpharooms.com, paying just £64 for 4 nights for a studio apartment. When we arrived at the apartments we were pleasantly surprised to find that the normal room rate is 70 euro's per night! The receptionist checking us in was very friendly and helpful, advising us of the cheapest internet cafe in town (even though they had internet in the hotel, she advised this is very expensive) and giving us maps of the local area. Be warned.... there is another alagoa mar in Altura. This is around a £100 taxi ride away so when booking transfers, be careful! We almost made that mistake so would be an expensive correction to make! All of the rooms have been refurbished and have everything you could wish for inc microwave, full cutlery, glass ware, plates etc. The pool area is beautiful and very clean. We actually had it to ourselves almost all of the time as the resort was so quiet! As we went very early on in the year, we had lovely sunbathing weather, however, you need to be very brave for a dip in the pool as it is not heated! We found the old town to be the nicer of the two main areas (the 'Strip' and the old town) which is an approx 15 min walk away, mainly down hill. (the strip is also approx 15 - 20 mins walk away in the opposite direction) Just before you enter the old town, there are some new escalators down to the town, a definite help on the way back! A few tips on where to eat..... Cabana Fresca. On the sea front in the Old Town at Fishermans Beach. Full English Breakfast only 2.50.... everywhere else around 5! I also had an amazing romantic birthday meal here, with them throwing in a free glass of champagne each to celebrate the occasion. Cais Velho is next door, so again on the beach front. Excellent value for money and a very hot but yummy piri piri chicken. Mi Sombrero is a lovely traditional mexican set just slightly back from the sea front, again in the old town. A set menu of onion rings to start, 13oz rib eye steak for main, cheesecake for dessert plus half a bottle of wine.... only 15 euro's proved excellent value for money. At approx 5pm as the sun is beginning to go down, a glass of wine at Louisiana (bar on the corner at the front of fishermans Beach) is a must. A local busker plays his acoustic guitar followed by the bongo's for around 45 mins each night, an amazing atmosphere. finally, out of season most bars are pretty quiet, however the Rock Cafe on the square in the old town has a live band each evening. Lots of locals and tourists giving a lively atmosphere. One thing to remember is eating in the main area's i.e. The Square, will cost more and drinks are more expensive. You can get an equally high quality meal for a lot less in the restaurants just off from here."
