Hotel Relais ValKarana

"We have just returned from 5 days at this hotel which is placed in a most stunning setting.. Salvatore and his staff were friendly and helpfully. Our unexpected bonus was the newly opened swimming pool set on the terrace overlooking the lake, just beautiful and such a peaceful location away from everything. Some form of transport is useful as we were a km or so from the village."

Peaceful, tranquil, beautiful position and views
"The Valkarana is a special hotel, in a beautiful solitary setting overlooking a lake. It is quite difficult to find from the village, but worth the effort when you get there, It comprises a long, low level building of two floors, in which is the main administrative and catering function. The hotel rooms are chalet bungalows dotted throughout the grounds, all facing the lake, which is at the foot of the sloping hill to reach it. The rooms are huge, and clean, and fairly sparse in terms of furniture, etc., but with amazing views. It's very peaceful - when we were there the hotel wasn't full, and those visitors who came only stayed a few days and moved on to the remainder of their itinerary. The small inland train which passes nearby during the summer months, only came once during our stay early in the season, but tooted its horn in the early hours, and, given the total quiet surrounding us, scared us silly! The food was excellent, and we ate there every evening bar one, because it was 17 miles in any direction to an alternative. Our waiter's English was scant, and no written menu appeared, so our choice was really left to him. However, we had no complaints - the food was delicious. Despite the distance from civilisation, it made a good centre for a number of day trips, and it ticked every box for us as a holiday. I would definitely recommend it, and go again."

"We stayed for 2 nights and could not believe how lucky we were to find a gem like this, if you were looking for something like this you would not be able to find it. It is a family owned hotel with a lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff, the views over the lake are breathtaking. We used the Reastaurant one evening the food was great, excellent value for money with many regional dishes available. Our room was extremely spacious and very clean, we could not fault it. Total recommendation for a peaceful & relaxing holiday-take plenty of books. Due to the isolated location you need to drive out to find shops/beaches etc We will definitely return, Salvatore made us feel extremely welcome"

"Spent two nights last week at the Valkarana. The hotel service, restaurant and rooms are all very good. It is also a great base to explore much of the costa smeralda. The only negatives would be that it is very isolated, it could do with a pool and the dirt track leading up to it makes driving at night a bit of a nerve jangling experience."

Very quite, good service
"We stayed for 4 days in this hotel with two small children. We saw the positive reviews on tripadvisor and the very nice website. The hotel is uniquely located in a remote part of the island, on the edge of a hill overlooking a lake. We choose for this hotel, because we thought that the children could play at the lakeside as the hotel does not have a pool. Upon arrival we were told that the pool is not suitable for swimming and that there are also no places at the lakeside to play. There are enough beautiful beaches in 30 minutes driving distance, but for us this was not the ideal setup. We would advise the hotel for everybody who appreciates a very quite and very nice hotel, with large rooms, a nice restaurant, but we would not recommend this for families with young children."

"The Valkorana is a wonderful hotel with spectacular views over the lake. The rooms were very comfortable and had great views of the lake. Salvatore and his staff did a great job of looking after us and made us really feel at home ( he got up 2 hours early just so we could have breakfast before our rather early flight!).The food and service was really excellent and really well priced(you must try the sardinian soup!) It takes about half an hour to get to the coast by car but the stunning location and seclusion of this hotel makes the trip really worthwhile. I would visit soon before any more people find out about and it gets too busy!!"
