Old World, well buffed
"Of two wonderful weeks in northern Italy in four good hotels, the seven nights at the Lido Palace were the best hotel experience. While I largely agree with the recent reviews, I cannot agree that the Lido felt "past its prime." Very definitely "Old World" in feel, with a grand main floor aglow in shining dark woods and sparkling chandeliers with a panorama--gasp!--of Lago Maggiore, the Borromean islands, and the preAlps. Nothing shabby in the carpeted expansive stairways, nor in the small but comfortably appointed rooms. Lots of closet space and drawers, and a modern electric safe in each room (oddly, the shower curtain around the small tub tended to pull in onto one's body). Food was excellent, freshly made and abundant--and served, well, INTRODUCED with loving detail by Roberto (actually, the food was served by a well-trained young staff who spoke a charming rudimentary English and adressed all men as, "Mister" and the women as "Mother"!). Over the course of a week, a superb variety of regional dishes were offered, providing a sense of having "eating Italian" in a whole new way."

Divine living at the Lido Palace Hotel
"From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were made to feel very welcome. This hotel has caught the essence of Italy's elegance and style at a pace of life that is service orientated but not overwhelming. The staff from the manager to the chamber maids were charming, polite and helpful. The views from the hotel of the Lake and the Islands are stunning and a delight to wake up to in the morning. The local towns and villages have wonderful restaurants and shopping. We have taken away such wonderful memories and will be returning to the hotel in the not too distant future. To sum the Hotel Lido up in a nut shell "Fabulous" !"

First class hotel
"Can't say enough about this hotel. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights during our trip through northern Italy. Very accomodating and friendly. Beautiful views and excellent location. Couldn't ask for anything more! Definitely recommend this hotel."

"If you're looking for lovely rooms, look elsewhere. This faded beauty has seen better days: worn carpet, peeling paint, bathroom smelling of damp, grungy upholstery, uncertain airconditioning, dusty drapes that don't quite close and that don't stay open. The public rooms are beautiful and the dining rooms, in early morning light, are magnificent. The staff is lovely, though if you're travelling with a tour group, as we did (individual traveller beware: this hotel is a standby for AIHA and other tours), the food will be less than wonderful (due, possibly, to tour budget rather than skill in the kitchen). Views of the Borromean Islands are grand; the walk to Baveno is safe enough, though, to get to nearby Stressa, you'll need a cab ride (too dangerous to walk). Enchanting sunrise views. All in all, there are better bargains to be had along the coast of Lake Maggiore. And this would be a good choice, if something could be done about the rooms."

We felt like royalty
"We spent five days at the Lido Palace in late July, and it was blissful. The location is beautiful and the hotel transports you back to a more peaceful and gentle era. The superior room overlooked the lake and was spacious, quiet, cool and had a lovely bathroom. The staff were so attentive we thought they had mistaken us for someone famous, but they try to make everyone feel like that. The pool was clean and quiet, we hardly went anywhere else because of the heat, but we were utterly relaxed and evenings out on the terrace overlooking the lake were unforgettable. We would recommend booking half board as the food is excellent and there's nothing to compare nearby. We loved it!"

Excellent family run hotel
"We stayed at the Lido Palace for 7 nights late July/early August 2006 and were very pleased with our choice. The hotel itself is in an outstanding position on the lakeside, 10 minutes walk from central Baveno and the ferry station, mostly along a lakeside promenade. The room we were allocated was on the third floor with a balcony and lake view. Whilst it wasn't the most elegant room in the hotel, it served its purpose and was kept clean and tidy. - and the view had to be seen to be believed. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The food was splendid, with at least two choices for each of four courses on the table d'hote menu. The Lido Palace is a family run hotel and they made us feel really welcome."

Great Place & Great Staff
"A very warm welcome when we arrived and the staff were all excellent throughout. We had the Winston Churchill Suite on the first floor, what a room and what a view. The whole hotel was very grand and lots of history. However the staff managed to make it feel like a small family hotel by their friendly attitude and warmth. Really enjoyed all aspects of the stay, with the only small issue being the breakfast buffet. It was good for some Italian hotels but could be better for such a grand hotel. Would recommend to anybody."

Loved the Lido Palace
"We visited the Lido Palace last June for 12 days and had a wonderful holiday. The staff were superb and went out of their way to provide any help required. The views from our bedroom were superb, an excellent hotel."

"We recently stayed at the Lido Palace Hotel in June 2006 for our honeymoon. It was the most wonderful experience. The view from our room and the general view from the hotel was breathtaking. It is a family run hotel, the staff were second to none and made our stay even more relaxing and enjoyable. The rooms were decorated beautifully, very oldey worldey, and very tasteful. The four course meals every night were superb, and we were lucky enough to have a table at the very front of the restaurant for our entire 10 night stay, overlooking the lake, an extremely romantic setting. Roberto, the head waiter and one of the hotel owner's son's, was warm and friendly and made sure everyone felt so important and cared about. The other waiting staff were excellent as were all others members of the team, absolutely faultless. Paulo, the other son of the family, looks after reception and nothing was too much troubl. Baveno itself is a very quiet resort, however, this wasn't a bad thing, it made the whole experience even more relaxing. Lazy days by the pool or catching the odd ferry to visit other resorts, absolutely perfect. The hotel is in a prime location, as I said earlier, the views were second to none. It was only a ten minute walk to the ferry port and it was so easy to plan a ferry trip, nothing was hard work! I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a romantic and relaxing holiday. Ten out of Ten!"

Very Good - However .... !
"Our recent visit to Hotel Lido Pallace was most enjoyable and in most areas we would support the previous complimentary comments about the hotel and its staff . It is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful position, the staff are efficient and very friendly and there is a warm and caring atmosphere . However - in our experience - (one week ) - the food was definitely a let-down ... We did not have a 'bad' meal but, again, at no stage had we an exciting or memorable meal. ... '2 star' rather than '4 star' , mediocre rather than good - and definitely not 'exceptional' !"

Could not fault this hotel at all.
"This is an amazing family-run hotel but on a grand scale. Service and attention were faultless. Food was excellent - and served silver-service would you believe in 2006?This hotel will definitely be in the five star class when all rooms have be renovated. Not that there was anything to complain about in ours, furnished with antique-style furniture and a balcony overlooking the bay. Location is fabulous if you want to visit the Borromean Islands. Gardens at the hotel groomed with nice terraces. An unheated swimming-pool but we went in in May to cool down. There is a private lakeshore beach. I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a nice, lazy holiday in Italy. The road - ah, the road! Be prepared for 24 hour traffic noise. This is one of the plagues of modern Italy. The other two are mosquitoes (not in May!) and children on school outings.(100's of them in May.)"

"This Hotel is run by a very professional family. The accomodations were wonderful and very clean. We had a Luxury lake view room with a very grand pink marble bathroom. The Hotel has the quiet air of a graceful palace with beautiful wood and marble decor and service to match. Very interesting Bar area and unusually furnished in the old grand style. We loved the whole place. The food and service we received was exemplary and one of the family owners - we think it was Roberto made sure we enjoyed our stay by his wonderful charming service in the dining room encouraging us to try new dishes etc. The dining room overlooks the lake and is in a very romantic setting complemented by excellent Italian food and wines on offer. These represented good value for money and were exceptional in terms of quality and variety. Nothing was too much trouble for the Hotel and from the day we were welcomed at the reception until the day we left we felt we were throughly pampered. The Hotel is situated within walking distance of the town and for the boat trips on the lake. You can also go to Milan by car or train. We would not hesitate to go back as soon as possible and highly recommend this Hotel."
