"My wife and I traveled for a few days break.
Maison la Minervetta received great reviews and it definitely stands up to them.
I wanted to book a few days somewhere special
We arrived late at night and the view from our window across the bay of Naples was very nice, though in darkness. When we woke in the morning.....Wow! Blue sea and Vesuvius across the bay....the view from our balcony was amazing.
Breakfast on the terrace was as impressive. What a view. We did not eat lunch or dinner but enjoyed a fine hearty breakfast each day. Sorrento was a 10 min walk down the hill and we ate the first evening and went to Sorrento the musical, which was entertaining. Lots of restaurants to choose from so we asked for a recommendation. The hotel could do even better...,they arranged for a boat to bring us to a restaurant two villages away and we had an amazing meal. Fresh seafood. The chef even brought out some courses to us and introduced them to us. The restaurant owner walked us back to our lift home.
Cannot recommend the staff or speak more highly of them. Our last morning we were late for our flight and could not stay for breakfast. They insisted on making us something to take away.

Feel free to email me"

Our 'wow' hotel in Italy

"Based on La Minervetta's website, I felt pretty certain that we would love this hotel. But, when we actually arrived I was thrilled beyond words (guess that's where the jumping up and down in the hall with my friend came from!). We were on this trip with friends celebrating their 25th anniversary and we spent almost two weeks going pretty much first class, but this was the best in my opinion. Its location, high atop the hillside overlooking the bay and Mt. Vesuvius, was stunning in and of itself; in combination with the bright open design and the kitchy modern artwork throughout the hotel, well, as I said before I was speechless. I loved the small size, the friendly (yet unobtrusive) staff, and the feeling of SIMPLE (as opposed to stodgy) luxury that permeated everything about our stay there. I would say that it was not convenient to the shops or restaurants in town, meaning that you would need to call a cab or walk a bit for dinner or shopping...but since the location is what makes it great, that is not a complaint, just a comment."

"Just to agree with all the other reviews, La Minervetta is a gorgeous hotel. Fantastic decor, amazing views from every room, in a perfect location, and so relaxed and friendly - I just can't recommend it highly enough. Breakfast on the terrace, overlooking the bay, in the sunshine has to be one of life's great experiences!"

Unbeatable Rooms, Incredible Views

"Everyone says the same things in their reviews because it is all true!

We stayed in room #4 (the blue room) for three nights in mid September. The room was by far the nicest we enjoyed in Italy. Beautifully decorated, tile floors, amazing views, shower, tub, mini bar, tons of tv channels, nice towels, supplied toiletries (including hair dryer). Not all rooms have balconies, ours had huge window wall that even opened for fresh breeze. This room was a "deluxe" room and we paid 250 euros per night in Sept.

The hotel itself matches the rooms, with quirky, modern decorations in the common area. Couches, chairs, fireplace, tons of seating on the deck. Breakfast was again the best we had in italy. Made to order eggs, huge selection of cheese, vegetables, fruits, breads, sweetrools, cereals, and so on. We never ordered a drink there as they were on the pricey side. Parking is easy (though when looking for the hotel, we passed it twice as the sign was behind a flag!). Staff was pleasant and always available. Perhaps the only thing I would have liked would be a more engaging effort at helping guests determine HOW to spend their time. They provided plenty of assistance but little real "insider" advice. But that's nit picking. It may be, in part, because the staff was younger than many of the guests. Most spoke excellent English, with at least one staff person from the UK. Pool is as noted in other reviews. Very small, COLD!, September sun only in the AM. You can walk down to the beach and sun yourself at one of the bar/restaurants or on the free beach. We did and it was very pleasant, with warm water. The only drawback is that the beach is VERY dirty.

The number one recommendation for this hotel is definitely the view! From our room, the view to the right was Sorrento. Look down and you get the quaint little Marina Grande with its brightly painted boats and piers and beach. Straight across is Vesuvius and Naples. Some mornings fog rolls in over Sorrento, in the evening the lights are bright and colorful and reflect on the water. One night we had an amazing thunderstorm and watched the lightning for an hour.

Another recommendation is the location. You drive all the way through Sorrento and then up the hill. The walk to Sorrento is relatively easy, we never took a bus or cab. The one time you might is to go to the main marina for boat rides to Capri (skip this unless you're doing the grotto) or Ischia, Amalfi, Positano. We drove and parked for about $20. The 285 steps down to Marina Grande take some effort coming up, especially after a bottle of red wine, but just stop every couple minutes and enjoy the view.

We ate at Delfino's on the pier. Nice, fun service, pretty good food, a free taster of Limoncello at the end. We also ate at the Hotel Ravage, just a few minutes walk towards town on the sea side of the street. This was great, very affordable and offers outstanding views.

Overall 100% recommended. We researched a bunch of hotels and fell in love with La Minervetta and weren't disappointed. So glad we chose Sorrento over Amalfi, Capri or Positano as well."

"Wow, what a find! Amazing location, literally right on the side of a cliff with fantastic views as far as you can see. The décor is unlike any I have seen, completely unique and use of such wonderful bright colours. You are about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Sorrento, or you can use the hotel steps (although it’s a bit of a trek on the way back up) to visit the restaurants at the small fishing village directly below, Marina Grande. The breakfast was fantastic and served on the outside terrace, such a beautiful setting. There is not a bar as such, but always someone on hand to get you a drink during the day or early evening. The swimming pool is like a large jacuzzi, with only 6 loungers. So if you are keen to lie by a pool all day, this probably isn’t the place for you. If you enjoy having a few hours in the sun just relaxing or having a few evening drinks, you can’t fail to be impressed with the setting. The staff were informative, friendly, but never over bearing. If you want a 5 star hotel where you are constantly pampered and fussed over, this isn’t the place. If you want a genuinely original place to stay, with wonderful décor, rooms, views and just that little something different, then you really won’t be disappointed."

"The things that stand out most about La Minervetta are the design of the rooms and the stunning location.
It looks exactly like it does on the website (you know how some hotels only take pics of their best rooms or a good corner?)
I had tried to book a specific room from previous recommendations but was told this wasn’t possible so it’s potluck which room you get. In the end we had room 1 which is on the left hand side looking at the hotel from the sea. It has the added bonus of a small private terrace shaded by plants.

Each room and terrace has an unobstructed view over the small fishing village of Marina Grande, Sorrento town and Vesuvius. I don’t think you can get a better view. (for info Hotels Bristol and Minnerva are very near and on the opposite side of the road so the views will be similar. Settimo Cielo is on the same side of the road about 100 yards away)
Sorrento is very touristy with people still around until late at night. La Minervetta is a ten minute easy walk to the start of the main town and about a further 10 minutes to the main square so it’s location makes it very peaceful and worth the walk.

Other reviewers have mentioned restaurants in Marina Grande but please be aware that this is reached on foot by 285 steps,
not so much of a problem going down, but a bit of a struggle going back up. (There is a road that goes there but it’s not a particularly nice walk)

The pool is more of a big Jacuzzi with room for only about 8 sunbeds. I was there in early to mid September and due to the path of the sun and its position this area was in complete shade by about noon. The upper terrace gets the sun until about 4.00 This is not a complaint, just that if you’re a pool and sunbathing lover this is something to consider.

The towelling bathrobes are not in the bathroom but on the top shelf of the wardrobe which we didn't find until we were packing to come home!

There is no bar or room service, but whoever is on duty will get you a drink. There is a mini bar in the room but they charge hotel prices so its better to stock this with drinks of your own preference. The staff will gladly supply you with an ice bucket.
A cab from the hotel to Naples Airport is 90 Euros

How to sum up this place? Well, if you are someone who likes to be waited on and fawned over by men in bow ties, this is not the place for you. The staff here are discreet but there if you want them. This is more like the chicest B&B you could ever hope to stay in.

At 300 Euros a night La Minervetta is by no means the cheapest place to stay in Sorrento but go ahead and spoil yourself."

Simply stunning!

"We had booked the hotel after seeing the details in 'Room for Romance' for the first week of our honeymoon. It more than lived up to the reviews I had read on Tripadviser. It is in a simply stunning location and is beautifully and very stylishly decorated with every corner of the hotel paid attention to. The best hotel I have ever had the pleasure to stay in.

We booked the Junior Suite, to treat ourselves as it was our honeymoon after all. The room was absolutely stunning, with two balconies and the view just amazing. That said, when (!) we come back we would happily book any of the other rooms as the public areas of the hotel are so inviting that we didnt often stay in our room. We spent many a mornning, afternoon and evening lazing on the very comfortable sun loungers and gazing with a gin and tonic out at Marina Grande and Mount Vesuvius.

I do not agree with the other reviews posted about the staff being aloof etc. If you want to be fawned over then pick a different hotel! The staff here are discreet but there if you want them, for a dinner reservation or a drink to be made.

Breakfasts are fantastic - but you will definitely go home a size larger!

My only recommendation would be that the hotel had a DVD player in the bedroom, as it would have been nice to just chill out on an evening with a movie, unfortunately the Sky Movies Pay per View was not working when we stayed.

Many thanks to all at La Minervetta!"

This is a one-of-a-kind hotel and definitely worth the stay!"

You sit by the pool and dial 9 for them to bring you whatever you desire - gelato, water, whatever you need. The patio overlooks the beatiful bay where you can enjoy a cocktail. It's also where breakfast is served. The staff is so friendly. We did not want to leave! Will definitely come back if it's not booked up!"
