FANTASTC! great views, perfect location, lovely staff.....
"We have just returned from a fantastic stay at the hotel continental and i can't recommend it highly enough.
The location is perfect. Central to the centre of Sorrento but set besides a small park so peaceful at the same time. Beautiful views accross the bay and mount vesuvius. There are only a few hotels with such a great view and the others are twice the price. I spent alot of time researching and reviewing hotels before i went, and for the price we wanted to pay, we couldn't have got better.
The room was decorated and furnished to a high standard. Large tiled bathroom with power shower. We had room 309 which was larger and had a balcony twice the size of the others (approx 12ft). Huge queen sized bed, 3 piece settee, 2 armchairs. We didn't pay any extra for this apart from the sea view supplement, which is worth every penny, the view is amazing!!! The basic rooms have no view and look over an interior staircase. Exterior rooms look over a school which may be noisy in term time, but they break up for summer in June.
I can't understand the poor reviews about the food. Having read them i went fully prepared to eat out every night, but it was lovely and we ate there every night for 2 weeks. I didn't see chicken nuggets, burgers as previously described on the menu. There was a choice of 5 starters eg pasta, rissoto, soup, asparagus, vegetable hors doevres.
5 main courses eg fish, steak, veal. 3 puddings or icecream, cheeses, fruit.
The menu was different every day and i was always full.
Breakfast was croissants, cakes, breads, yoghurt, fruit, cheese, ham and there WAS TOAST!!!! There was also champagne which was great with orange juice.
The staff were the most friendly and accomodating people i have ever come accross.
They couldn't do enough for you, epecially franco and mario.
Lovely pool (sunbeds 3 euro), and a lift down to a private bathing platform.
Nearly all the guests we spoke to were repeat guests having returned year after year and i can see why. We will go back, but book early because so will everyone else!"

"My family (husband, self, and 3 teenage boys) stayed here in the beginning of June. We all loved Sorrento and the Hotel Continental and wished we could stay longer. Very clean, very comfortable rooms. The staff was helpful and eager to please. We had the Tasso Junior Suite, and the Goethe Junior Suite. Both rooms had plenty of room and the tile throughout the suites was really pretty. They both also had balconies with gorgeous views. What a beautiful way to start your day! The location was the best. We loved walking around Sorrento, especially at night. I don't know about the food, since we opted to find places with more of a local feel, but the breakfast was fine, no better, no worse than other breakfast buffets we had on this trip except for the juice - that could use some improvement. However, I did not go to Sorrento for juice and I would certainly stay here again and certainly recommend the Hotel Continental."

Nice Hotel. Shame about the food.
"First of all, the location couldnt be better, only a five minute stroll in to the heart of the town. The staff were all very friendly especially the Restaurant and Bar staff. Franco in the restaurant was the comedian who always kept you amused. Giovani in the bar is an absolute gent and will do his best to make sure you are happy. The rooms are very clean, with fresh towels every day. The only real dissapointing thing is the quality of food served in the restaurant. For a four star hotel it is very average, and the breakfast is very limited, and yes......NO toast. However i would have no hesitation in staying there again, i would just do B & B next time."

"Second time we have stayed at hotel. Wondeful seaview room, also overlooking pool. Food not so good as last time but still palatable most of the time. Staff lovely. Very friendly. Have already booked our third holiday there this coming October. Hotel right near centre so easy to get everywhere from their. Staff will advise on places to eat, to visit, etc. which will help you to save money. Can't wait to go back.

Great Hotel and location
"My wife and I stopped at the hotel for 2 weeks and had a great holiday. Its location was only 5 mins from the centre of Sorrento. We found the bedroom we had to be first class with a very large bed.The room service could not be better, clean towels every day and kept very clean. But the best was the staff in the dinning room and bar. They were so good at there job and so friendly. However the food let the hotel down very much.I had to ask for toast as this was not provided in the morning, and the evening meal on some days was poor.On one night the main cause was one sausage with very little veg and two little potatoes.I would rate this a 4star hotel but the food only 2 star."

"We have just come back from a week in Sorrento staying at the Continental Hotel. Everything was fantastic, including the food. We never had a meal that we didn't enjoy and there was plenty of it. There was enough choice to satisfy all tastes and was always beautifully presented. The waiters immaculately turned out and pleasant. We had a superb room on the top floor with a great view out over the Bay of Naples. It was exceptionally clean and the bed was comfortable. Lovely floor tiles! The only thing I would have liked is toast for breakfast but it wasn't an issue and after all, when in Rome.........etc.
We did all the trips and each one was good except for the trip to Capri. We were herded round like cattle all day, made to stand for, what seemed like hours, in the scorching sun. The place was teeming with tourists!! and the Blue Grotto trip was cancelled due to rough sea conditions. Half day would have been enough and definitely not a place to go if you don't like crowds.
We almost cancelled the trip to Rome thinking it would be too long but this turned out to be a really good day. Obviously not enough time to see everything ( a bit like going to London for the day) but, never having been before, it gave a nice taster for a return trip. We stopped for most of the time in the Vatican and although didn't get to see the Sistene Chapel (queue too long) St Peter's Basilica was spectacular. Not too crowded on the day we went nor too hot. Also stopped at the Trevi Fountain and walked to the Spanish Steps.
This is a beautiful stretch of coast and I would definitely recommend it. The Continental Hotel was everything we could have wished for - including the food!"

Lovely hotel, shame about the food.
"We stayed in May, and all aspects of the hotel were superb, except the standard of food at dinner. The dinners were awful. The choices were limited to omelette, pork chops, a sausage or beef liver. The food seemed to be aimed at people who want to eat basic English food, with a lot of salt. Very poor for a 4 star hotel.
If we go to an Italian hotel, we expect some actual Italian food in the restaurant.
On the positive side, the staff, and all the facilities in the hotel is superb. The room was clean and a good size, and it is in a perfect location. In fact everything apart from the food is of 4 star quality.
I would definitely recommend the hotel, but on a bed and breakfast basis only."

"Just spent a week at the Hotel Continental. Ideal position, about five minutes' walk from the centre of Sorrento. Buffet style breakfast with various breads and pastries. Portion sizes of the evening meal were not huge and the food was a bit bland. Good sized pool with lots of sunbeds and deckchairs and a lovely garden. Helpful and friendly staff in a spotlessly clean hotel.
Decent size bedroom but our balcony (room 122) had a "view" of outside staircases and the noisy air conditioning shaft which was turned off at 9.30pm. Plus it hardly got any sun. Most of the other balconies had brilliant views of the sea or pool. Very clean though with daily clean linen."
