"This was the most amazing holiday of my life and one that I shall certainly never experience again. From the very start, when we were offered bellini's on arrival and shown to our lovely rooms with fantastic views over the sea, olive groves and cliffs of the Sorrento coastline. The setting, in all is fabulous. You really couldn't ask for better scenery. The hotel is situated some way from the main town of Sorrento, but handily the hotel has a free mini bus that runs backwards and forwards from the hotel every hour into town. The town of Sorrento itself, is lively and in typical old style italian, full of restaurants, bars, plenty of shops - loads of entertainment for everyone. The beach from the hotel is about a 10-20 minute walk from the hotel, but is very easy to find and makes for a nice day. Eating at the hotel, was a joy in its own. Offering a simple continental breakfast in the morning and an individual menu in the evening, which changed everyday. The hotel staff were incredibly warm and accommodating, doing their very best to please your needs. The only thing I would say is that this is not a hotel I would reccomend for young adults looking for clubs or young families. Although we had all ages in our group and did not have a problem with entertaining ourselves, others may do. Other than that, this is a fantastic hotel and would love to return one day."

"We just spent 5 nights at the La Solara in Sorrento, and we could not have been more pleased with everything. The service was the best, it was clean, and comfortable, and had everything we could ask for in a hotel. Sunday night dinner special included candle light and piano music, and the food was excellent. We ate there every night, as we were completely satisfied with the preparatiion and service. We also ate lunch around the pool area and were completely happy with every aspect of the meal. The free Shuttle service to downtown was the main reason for selecting this hotel, and we were not disappointed. We rate this hotel a 10 out of a possible 10 for everything. Thank you La Solara for making our stay one of the most enjoyable ever. If anyone is looking for a hotel in Sorrento, this is the one. Oh yes, it is also very quite and relaxing, and that is something we needed during our 3 weeks tour of Europe."

"We also spent a week in La Solara over Easter. We went to Sorrento to get married and most of our 30 guests stayed at La Solara too. My new husband and I have been to Sorrento twice in the past year and on both occasions stayed in hotels close to the centre, both of which feature very positively in this forum. However, having experienced La Solara we would not choose to stay in the centre again. The courtesy bus service was hourly, (apart from on Easter Sunday when the service was suspended between noon and 4 p.m.) Otherwise there was a totally reliable service on the hour, starting at 08.15 from the hotel until the last bus at 11 p.m. The travelling time was only 10 minutes to the centre of town, with some stunning scenery along the way... certainly no hardship. In any case, the distance from Sorrento is clearly mentioned in all information about the hotel, so people have the choice when booking to decide if it suits their needs. The hotel staff could not do enough for us; they had the perfect combination of friendliness/ professionalism. On the day of our wedding, we asked for lunch instead of dinner; no problem. Furthermore, they set the tables up in formal wedding style and even decorated the area with a range of balloons etc my friend had provided. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel itself is beautiful and feels very spacious. It was spotlessly clean and the swimming pool area was very impressive and included free sun loungers and bathing towels on request. The food was exquisite and included a good variety of choices. In addition to the three course evening menu, an extensive salad buffet bar was also provided in the dining room. On Easter Sunday there was a substantial Easter egg for everyone at breakfast. There was entertainment on two nights during our stay. I was unaware of noise from other rooms in this hotel. Our room had beautiful sea views towards Ischia. Puolo beach is also visible from the hotel and is a lovely authentic Italian area with great views towards Vesuvius and it's just a short, though hilly stroll from La Solara. I found the tranquility offered by being out of town was great, well worth a 10 minute bus commute. It was like having the best of both worlds. Both of the central Sorrento hotels we had previously stayed at offered rooms with a very gloomy outlook facing other buildings. On our arrival, complimentary champagne was offered as the rooms weren't quite ready. There was a complimentary bottle of wine in the bedroom; we mentioned it to others in our party, saying that it must have been put there because we were here to get married. But it turned out that everyone had been given a free bottle! On our wedding night there was also a complimentary bottle of champagne chilling in our room on our return. The policy of charging for personal use of the minibar fridge was made clear in the room information. My sister used their fridge for storing bottles for their infant and the hotel made no charge. There was a room safe provided at a cost of 50 cents per day, which was very reasonable. I know we paid a lot more than this last summer in the centre of town. Overall, we were very impressed by La Solara. I feel it offers the very best of Italian warmth and hospitality. It's the hotel we will stay at on future trips to Sorrento. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to travellers who want warm hospitality, beautiful surroundings, top quality food and a tranquil setting. It's the best!"

"Well we have just returned home from 5 weeks of travelling and this was our worst experience. Firstly we booked this place on the advice of tripadvisor, so we are now cautious of the reviews for our next holiday. When we arrived our rooms were not ready (3pm), we had just paid a small fortune for a taxi to the hotel and then we had to sit and pay for lunch as there was no bus into town until 4pm. When we booked we were led to believe that by staying out of town the bus service would run quite frequently. We did not enjoy having a constrained time frame of going into Sorrento and having a meal at 6:30pm and returning back to the hotel on a bus at 8:30pm. Also the walls were paper thin, we could hear the next door neighbour go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, the other neighbours up at 6am and the lift all night (well lights out was 11pm in the lobby). Also we were charged 5 Euros a day to have private use of the mini bar in our room. On a plus our room interior was pleasant and we enjoyed the lunch we had on our first day."

"My wife and I are both in our 40s and went to Sorrento as a late deal. I knew in advance that the weather was not going to be in our favour and true enough in poured down for most of the stay with thunder and lghtening thrown in. The 75 minuite coach transfer from Naples was pleasant however it showed exactly how run down this part of Italy is, poverty everywhere. When we arrived at the hotel we had to drive past about 2 or 3 miles so we could turn the coach. First impressions of the hotel were good with the staff being very friendly and we was offered a free drink whilst waiting for the rooms to be ready. We had paid a suppliment for a balcony and they gave us a pokey little room with a shoe box balcony and peeling wall paper, it stank of mould and was gloomy, the view was of a roof top and some vent shafts. After complaining we got upgraded to a sea view and a much larger room. Overall the staff made up for the lack of facilities, no games room, no shop, no gym/sauna/jakuzi etc, just an ageing pool. The noise was very disturbing, we could hear tv's from 4 different rooms, the lift buzzer from 3 floors and traffic noise occationally when they beep to turn a bend. We heared people going to the toilet and people making babies. This is however the best hotel (from 65 I have stayed in) for food, and the staff in all areas were first rate. Angelo the barman is fantastic but dont believe a word he says and the restaraunt team were very proffessional. Snack food and drinks are very expensive, you paid 4 Euro's (£2.80 ish) for a medium bottled water, you have to pay for other things which are normally included, such as room safes etc The hotel is very clean, very friendly but noisey, uneventfull and expensive, it lacked basic 4 star facilities and being the first week of the season it lacked full functionality (No hot water for 3 days in our room)."

"Tina and I stayed at La Solara during the last week of September and the first week of October. Two weeks well spent. La Solara is an excellent Hotel and the staff made it that way. The bus service to Sorrento was very very reliable too and the driver didn't seem to take a day off, thats dedication! I particularly enjoyed Angelo's (barman) humour and that I resembled a famous musician!!! We also enjoyed the music DVDs that were played on a giant screen in the lounge on some evenings when the weather turned a bit sour."

"We stayed for a week as a Thomson package, and couldn't rate the Hotel highly enough. It was incredibly clean, the food was superb, and the staff (especially in the restaurant) couldn't be more friendly or do enough for us. Yes - it's a distance from the centre of Sorrento (and I wouldn't recommend walking - the road is dangerous on foot!) - but the shuttle bus is reliable and regular. The upside of the location being the beautiful views."

"Definitely a great hotel that prides itself on service and cleanliness. It was more than one could expect. The rooms were very nice, large and clean. The views were awesome and watching the cars drive along the road is added entertainment. After visiting Sorrento, I would not want to stay in the town. The pool is beautiful; the food was great. But the coffee was the worst coffee I have ever had, but it is Italy. If you like to exercise, then you can jog up and down the road to the marina. It's very steep and one should be physically fit for such a jog. Just ask, and you will get directions. Plus, we bought water down there at the marina for 3,50 euros for six very large bottles at Rosa's. Can't beat that! The hotel will charge you a hefty 4,00 euros for only one smaller botlle than we got at Rosa's. The hotel shuttle bus takes you to Sorrento. We tried to drive the car down there one night and never could find the marina, got stuck in traffic and it was awful. Forget the car. We tried to drive into Positano and it was a stressful adventure. We really enjoyed our stay there. We met so many nice people along with the staff. You can't beat the value either."

"We have just returned from a week at La Solara. This was our first visit & whilst we had read previous reviews we were not prepared for the experience that is La Solara. The staff are friendly, with nothing being too much trouble, and the food was excellent. Ingredients of the highest quality are exquisitely cooked and presented and the Sunday evening, candle-lit, gala dinner was wonderful. Yes, we were on a 'package holiday' with Thompson but there is definitely no sense of this being a 'tour company' hotel. As stated in previous reviews La Solara is approx 3kms out of Sorrento but with the regular, timetabled hotel bus this presented no problem, particularly when the trade off is a hotel with stunning views. The management and staff at La Solara certainly have the recipe for making their guests welcome & the abundant small touches ensure a never to be forgotten holiday."

"We had a great time at this hotel. The staff was very attentive and helpful. For example, our flight arrive very late and the airline called the hotel so that I would not loose the reservation. When we arrived at the hotel (very late) the kitchen had already closed but the hotel (without asking) had made two plates of food in case we were hungry. Fantastic!!! The hotel is a bit far from the center of Sorrento but they do have a hotel bus that runs every hour (you can walk the distance if you don't mind a long walk)."
