10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"Hotel location good just a bus/train ride away from Sorrento and easy to reach other destinations. If you don't mind walking, Sorrento is about 30 minutes away by foot, although we took a few pit stops along the way in the many bars! Travel by bus or train is very cheap. Bedroom comfortable with a balcony overlooking the orange trees. Hotel very clean. Food was excellent and made all the more enjoyable by the attentive staff and Salvatore who was the head waiter. My husband is a vegetarian and the waiting staff were more than happy to advise on alternatives to meat every meal and there was plenty to choose from all well done! I would recommend Alpha Hotel to my family and friends and would be happy to return again some time in the future."

Loved the hotel, area and people
"I only got to this hotel because of the price but i have to say it was such a nice place to stay for a week. It was about a 5 min walk to the train station which you paid only 1 euro for a ticket, a 2 min train drive to Sorrento for a more busy place with shops, bars and resturants, supermarket up the road, resturants and bars. Fab place to be. The staff were really helpful, friendly, polite, always remembered my room number, was at the bar enough! The food was good, menu changed eveyday, entertainment through the week. The room was lovely, comfy beds, my balcony over looking an orange field. the swimming pool was nice, had a bar down at the pool, when we were there it was closed but the waiters kept coming down to check if any drinks are needed. i would definatly go back to this hotel."

"We stayed here as a family of four in one large room with our two young sons sharing our room. We had a wonderful time and particularly welcomed: the comfort and cleanliness of the room; the quietness of the balcony at the back of the hotel (north faciing so cool in the afternoon); the wonderfully luxuriant garden; the lovely swimming pool, kept pristine clear; the uniformly friendly and helpful staff who were also great with the children (Salvatore, Gennaro and Antonio in particular); the varied and delicious meals; the attractive spaces in and around the hotel, especially the outside seating for breakfast. This place is a gem! It is also wonderfully located, especially if you prefer to be a little away from the hubbub of central Sorrento but still get the benefit of its terrific transport facilities and other amenities. Our only problem will be finding anywhere else to match what we got here."

the Hotel Alpha is an excellent place to stay
"My wife and I stayed at the hotel from October 08-14 and the room on the second floor we had was spacious and spotlessly clean. It had lovely furniture and a large bathroom with jacuzzi bath/shower which was very welcome after some of our long walks around the surrounding area(7 hours around Pompei and I lost count after 1500 steps down from Ravello to Amalfi via Atrani). Travelling around by bus and train couldn't be much easier or cheaper - 1 euro to or from Sorrento by train, and the station is only 5 minutes walk from the hotel, the buses sometimes get crowded though. We got a 24 hour bus/train pass for the trip along the coast to Positano,Amalfi and Ravello from the hotel reception desk for 5 euros. To get to the hotel from Naples airport we caught the curreri viaggi bus outside the arrivals hall which went to Sorrento but dropped off in the square in front of Sant'Agnello circumvesuviana train station and only cost 7 euros each way. Overall we can't fault the hotel for service, cleanliness, friendliness etc. and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel to friends who were coming to the area for a holiday."

Super Holiday Service
"Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks (21 Sep - 05 Oct 2007) and can describe this hotel in one word... EXCELLENT !! A spotlessly clean hotel with large comfortable rooms. First Rate staff for whom nothing was too much trouble and were always cheerful and helpful and made all guests feel very welcome. It's been a long time since I was genuinely made so welcome in any hotel. Breakfast was from 0700 to a respectable 1000 am with ample "continental" and or "cooked " meals along with Cereals, Toast and plenty of fresh fruit. Waiter service at dinner could not be faulted with an excellent choice of Menu and all very appetising. Musical entertainment was provided on several evenings during the week with a very good bar service The hotel has a perfect swimming pool and separate childrens pool all enclosed within some truly spectacular gardens. Although the hotel is not in the centre of Sorrento it is only 5-10 mins away by bus or train (1 Euro each way) with bus stop and train station "on the doorstep". (Around 20 minutes walking time) Located on a tree lined avenue within the area of Sant' Agnello and surrounded by vineyards and lemon orchards, the hotel is in a fairly quiet area,in many ways far better than being in Sorrento itself which tends to suffer from "Traffic Noise" In short ....A lovely hotel with "Super Holiday Service" in a pleasant location which is more than worthy of its 4 Star rating and well worth considering for a long or short stay. You won't regret it !! George Gloucester"

The Alpha, a little dissapointing!
"We stayed at this hotel for a week from the 7th September 2007. To be honest, given the previous reviews, we were a little disappointed. Our room, although huge, was on ground level with no view at all with terrace being right next to the kitchen outlet grills. The Jacuzzi shower unit did not work, but did manage to soak the entire bathroom. We did not ask to be moved as our rep was on airport duty and once we had unpacked it was too much trouble to repack and move. We found the restaurant food to be ok but the service rushed this alongside the extremely bright lighting and the surly maitre d made a romantic evening impossible. The bar service although very friendly was slow. In all we may have just been unlucky but we would not be able to recommend this hotel to friends or family."

Lovely Hotel with excellant food
"I booked this hotel through Citalia and for a special birthday. The pictures in the brochure are a little out of date and really do not do the hotel justice. We stayed for 1 week half board. The room was spacious and quiet. Our balcony faced the mountains not the road. The room had a flat screen TV with English channels, safe and fridge. It was cleaned daily to a high standard. The food was the highlight of the day. 3 or 4 course meal. Some nights with music and special gala nights also. The choice was good. All the staff were polite and well presented. Breakfast was eaten outside on the terrace. It was a buffet style, toast, fruit, cereals, juice, cold meat, cheese. A choice of eggs was served at the table. My partner arrange with the head waiter for a cake on my birthday. The lights were dimmed in the restaurant and the cake came out with a candle ablaze. The cake was delicous! The drinks were put on a tab which you settle at the end of the week (I used my credit card, no problems). They give you a receipt every time you order a drink so can keep track of your spending. The pool area was very nice. The main part of the pool is deep if you have small children that can't swim. The shallow end was 1.5m. However a circular shallow pool was provided for younger children. Sunbeds/chairs around the pool, we never had a problem finding somewhere to sit. Reception sell bus and train tickets. For the nearest beach the hotel has special rates, so get a ticket from reception and pay when you get to the beach. Make sure you get a parasol when on the beach as it got very hot in the sun. Beach about 10 mins stroll and where you will find lovely views from the cliffs of Sorrento and Versuivus. You can get onto a concrete jetty next to the beach entrance for free. The pay part of the beach has a restaurant and toilets. The beach is small with a huge wooden deck. You don't have to have a sunbed you can just pay to go on the beach. No need to get a sunbed for kids. Supermarket 5 mins walk. Train station about 10 mins walk. Sorrento is only one stop and takes about 3 mins to get there. Corsa Italia is the main road leading into Sorrento, it is very busy with traffic. We did walk down it a little way and look in the shops. Go up to the hotel roof and take a look at the views. Lovely. We had an excellant holiday at the Alpha Hotel and are looking to return in the future."

Great Little Hotel
"The Alpha is a lovely small and friendly hotel. The staff are truely excellent. Both breakfast and evening meal are very enjoyable experiences - good food and relaxing - wonderful silver service. The rooms are lovely not 'plastic' built-in furniture. We asked and got a quiet room - so traffic noise not a problem although double glazing would cut out most traffic noise."

Well looked after at the Alpha
"We had a very pleasant stay for 5 nights at the Alpha. The hotel itself is approx 5 mins walk from the station in Sant'Agnello. Sant'Agnello is the next town to Sorrento but effectively one runs into the other. What this means is that the centre of Sorrento is maybe 25 mins walk away. Alternatively you can readily go by bus or train. There is a bus stop outside the hotel but with an infrequent service. More frequent service from near the station but buses can be packed so you may not get on the first bus that comes along! Tickets to Sorrento cost â¬1 single and can be used on either the bus or train. We bought ours from the hotel reception. Restaurant was a highlight of our stay at the Alpha. Waiters were all absolutely immaculately dressed and delivered the food silver service. Breakfast was served on the patio, the tables covered with white linen table cloths. Slightly noisy due to passing traffic but you can cope with that. Decent enough selection of food in a buffet style and they do offer fried or scrambled egg which they serve to you at your table. Bedroom was in traditional style. Whilst this older style may be perhaps typical of Sorrento, we would have preferred something more modern. Room was well cleaned but we had a feeling that the drains may have been slightly supect. Good size balcony which faced the hills to the South. We were on the side away from the road and the room was very quiet indeed. We thought that all the staff at the Alpha deserve special mention. Generally, they speak English quite well and they were very helpful, welcoming and pleasant. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Alpha. After a day's site-seeing, it was pleasant to spend some time relaxing by the swimming pool before dinner and maybe a drink sitting out on the patio. Some evenings the hotel provided live entertainment. Whilst there is no doubt what a lovely part the whole area is, we certainly left the Alpha feeling we had been well looked after."
