La Luna Hotel
10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
Excellent location, great holiday
"Have just returned from a two-week family holiday (including 18 & 17 year old teenagers!!!). Booked a 4 bed maisonette and a 2 bed studio; very impressed on arrival. Firstly; weather was fab every day of the holiday, secondly; the views are really something special (picture postcard..these are 5-star views!!!), thirdly; both accommodations were excellent; clean and spacious (particularly the bathrooms), great kitchen areas (just enough), brill air con (defiantly needed!!!), comfy beds but take a pillow if you like to sleep on more than a wafer.
These apartments are certainly the best we have ever stayed in during our many visits to Skiathos.
Kids (9, 12) loved the pool area so much it was hard to drag them away so that we could go to the many lovely beaches on Skiathos.
Bar is great; Dimetris, Rula and Tony will make you feel very welcome (donât know how they remember everyoneâs name within two minutes of arrival). The bar will stay open until the last guest leaves so donât expect a morning bar service much before 11.00amâ¦.
If you can drag yourself away from the bar and pool a great beach is located just below the apartments, in fact you could easily spend 2-weeks just drifting between these two areas, but if you want to cast your net a bit further I would recommend hiring a 4x4 and visiting the many beaches and great little tavernas (mostly hidden and only accessible by car) Skiathos has to offer.
Despite each year saying we will take the family somewhere different we keep returning... this island is a wonderful place, small enough to be really safe for the younger kids but just big enough to keep the teenagers happy. A great holiday was had by all, in fact as soon as we got back we tried to re-book this accomodation for next year but the dates are already FULLY BOOKED!!! Well done Firstchoice you picked excellent apartments in a great location."

brilliant holiday, wish i was there still!
"Well...lets start with...Tony?! how FAB is he?! brilliant bar man, everything a girl needs to have around the pool, a fit body, cheeky smile, a flirty bloke just a shame when its the last day of the holiday and you have to say good bye =(
the apartment for a family of 3 is basic, we werent overly impressed with the kitchenette but werent to phased as we were only there for breakfast on the odd day.
the beds were very comfortable however the pillows were a bit small and hard, the bathroom was brilliant it was spacious and had plenty of facilities however the shower head was a bit erm..dodgy.
the view was gorgeous, every room had a sea view and one block looked over onto the pool whereas the other was unfortunatly looking over the car park, not too much of a problem as guests were considerate late at night and the rooms were very sound proof.
the resort Troulos was lovely, the beach was beautiful and was well equipt with water sports including the new FlyingFish!
the restaurants were all lovely and served food for everybodys tastes at a reasonable price!
Nectar & Amvrosia is highly recommended ( opposite the Victoria petrol station, up a flight of stairs )
the other staff at the hotel were also good, we got the impression however from Dimitrious that he favored the big bar spenders.
well weve just finished our holiday and enjoyed it so much, there were let downs but they were soon forgotten as the beauty of skiathos is so wonderful it relaxes you and it just makes you so much more calm.
i would return to skiathos in the near future and would love to see Tony again! ( as will many other young girls! )
you are definatly guarenteed a 10/10 holiday!!!!!"

Heaven On Earth- in Greece!
"First may i say Top marks to First Choice travel operators, From book in to departure all brilliant service.
Skiathos is a beautiful low key beach based holiday. If you are seeking adventure or museums, nightlife or tours go somewhere else. this is purely chill out. relax and recharge the batteries kinda Island.
You can travel one end of the Island to the other for 2 euros!
Food is incredibly inexpensive, a 3 course meal with wine will set you back around £23!! brilliant or what?
The beaches are great, but out of all we visited, Troulos Bay was by far the best, no music, loads of space and lovely little old fashioned tavernas of Greece 20 years ago, bliss!
The La Luna apartments are run by Dimitri & his soon to be wife Stravroula, with the bronzed greek god that is 17 year old Tony, what a life this boy has!
The Pool, apartments and whole complex are clean, safe and recommended. This holiday howevwer is not for the fainthearted, the steps and hills are a killer! but you do aclimatise after a week. I would suggest this holiday is really for couples and small families, there is little nightlife and the restaurants are quite a walk away. Agelikas and Green Meadow were very good and highly recommended.
We did not hire a car, do any trips or go on a boat, we read, swam, walked and helped out the European wine lake! It was bliss and if you are feeling stressed with life this is the destination for you! The views are worth the trek up the hill, the Greek people are always friendly and welcoming, the sun shone, the beach was blue flag, as I started this holiday was" heaven on earth"
Wish I was there now :)

"We have just returned from a 2 week holiday in La Luna Apartments in Skiathos and I had a absolutely wonderful time.
Here are a few things you might like know if you are soon to be going: -
La Luna apartments are on the outskirts of the resort Troulos. It is a 5 minute walk downhill to the nearest supermarket and beach, getting back up to the apartments takes a little longer as its all uphill. It is not too steep and the views at the top are definitely worth it. Every single apartment has sea views and the apartments themselves are lovely. Greece is normally very basic but you had everything you could need in these apartments. Air conditioning must be hired as must the safety deposit box, which is a little costly (50 euros for 2 weeks). They are self catering with a small but well stocked kitchenette, including clean tea towels. We were on the ground floor but felt very safe and left windows open at night. The linen changes didn't really seem to have any pattern but came often. There is no roadside or bar noise at night, it is extremely peaceful. There is also a nice pool and pool side bar.
Skiathos is gorgeous. It is part of 3 islands closely situated together (the other 2; Skelopos and Alonisos). You can go island hopping for the day to visit the others which is recommended as they are also beautiful.
There is only 1 main road on Skiathos which runs the length of the island. It begins in Skiathos Town and runs all the way across to Koukounaries. The buses run very frequently from Skiathos Town (bus stop 0) to Koukounaries (bus stop 25). La Luna apartments is situated between bus stop number 20 & 21. They are easy to use and the cheapest way to travel around the island. There are 2 tariffs (1.10 or 1.40) depending on distance of journey and these are per person and only one way. There are also taxis which you can flag down from the roadside.
Troulos is ok. Its not very big with some quite nice tavernas but we ate a lot in Skiathos town. In Troulos definitely try the restaurant in the Troulos Bay Hotel which sits right on the beach. Also Nectar & Ambrosia has good greek food. The beach there is lovely. You must rent sunbeds and parasols. For 2 beds and a parasol its 8 euros which seemed to be the standard price on other beaches we went to also.
THINGS TO DO
We hired a 4x4 for 2 days and went exploring off the main roads up into the north of the Island. Two days was enough to see most things. There are 2 monastaries to visit and also an old town called Kastro. Plus there are lots of hidden little beaches to discover. The roads are like dirt tracks but its definately an adventure. Between bus stops 12 & 13 we walked around the peninsula to discover some wonderful beaches.
In Skiathos Town they are plenty of shops to buy souvenirs and greek foods like honey, olive olive and ouzo. There is a lovely harbour to stroll around and lots of lovely cafe bars to sit and people watch. There isn't a clubbing atmosphere here but there are some seriouly chilled out bars with bean bags outside for you to sit on and drink cocktails and watch the sunset.
There is one restaurant in Skiathos Town you must visit called The Windmill. Its quite pricey so only go once as a special treat to soak up the wonderful views and eat some really good food. It is very romantic. You must book to get a good seat.
Have fun and enjoy your time there, we did!"

i want to go back
"the la luna apartments are just the right size for a family of 4 (except the en suite bath they should of just fitted a shower tray), there clean and comfy. the views from the balcony are beauitful you can see for miles. Dimitris and rula who manage the hotel are wonderful they make you feel very welcome and their there whenever you need them no matter what time of day or night(if you stay there round about the 17th june you know what i mean). And they have a knack of knowing you all by your first names within hours of you first meeting, which isnt bad to say the apartments were fully booked so there were quite a few people staying there. Skiathos is a beautiful peaceful place and there are plenty of things to do if you want to do them, the beaches are so clean the sea is clear, my 2 children along with a friend they made even manage to catch a few fish, a couple of shrimps and a crab they were very plesed with themselves. The bars and restraunts in Trolous are fab espeacially the ambrosia and nectar restraunt and angelicas bar. One thing you must try is dimitris chips back at the la luna, now for a family that rarely has chips i think we had them nearly every other day ,they are the best chips on the island, sad i know but if you try them of have had them you will know what i mean. Over all we are glad we stayed at the la luna, all the other guests that where there were so friendly everyone got to know each other it really helped to make are hoilday and needless to say we are going to try to go back to the la luna next year. So a big thank you to Dimitris, Rula and not forgetting tony hope to see you all soon, and thank you to first choice, the Clegg family."

Nice one, Dimitris!
"This was a cheap holiday and I didn't expect much to be honest, but the apartments are lovely, the beach is clean and the service is out of this world. Dimitris and Rula are the nicest hosts I've ever encountered ~ the other reviews are right, they never seem to sleep! It's probably best for couples, but there were kids there who seemed to be having a great time as well. Don't worry about the steep hill unless you're really unfit, it's pretty steep but it's not that far. I got home yesterday and already I'm wondering what's going on back there. Everyone on the island is unfalteringly honest, trusting and friendly and it really rubs off on a cynical Brit like myself. "Pay me tomorrow" is the locals' favourite saying. Listen out for Dimitris' singing though ~ flat as a pancake!"

"I don't have particuarly high expectations for my holiday accommodation, however La Luna was a lovely place to stay in. We went last September - the weather was great for the start of the week, but then went downhill for the last 2 days which was a shame. The accommodation was lovely, clean and fresh. It has great views of Troulos bay and was an ideal end to the day to sit on the balcony watching the sun set. The owners were friendly but didn't bother you if you wanted to keep to yourself. The 'steep' track up to the accommodation wasn't THAT bad - it was steep but didn't take long to get up there, and there are steps which take you up past the pool which is a lot easier. The buses into Skiathos town were regular and cheap. I wouldn't fancy taking them in the height of summer, but were a great way to get into town in the evening. There wasn't much to do in Troulos for the evening - a few restaurants next to each other on the beach, but that was about it. Much better to take the bus into Skiathos town where there were loads of nice restaurants and bars to pick from. The only downside was that we found wasps to be a real problem at all the beaches."

Great beach views
"We stayed in Luna apartments end of September the weather was really warm and it was still full here.
Luna is on a steep hill top but worth the huff and puff up with brilliant views of Troulos and the beach(which all the rooms have balcony views of)
The pool is average and clean but not really much for children it is more of a couples place with a great pool bar where you will find Dimitris the manager(24 hours a day!!) who is really helpful and bit of a character when you get to know him.
The rooms are very clean and basic but comfortable and we will be returning in September 2006

Enjoyed the views
"We stayed at the luna appartments during the first two weeks in October. Their location gave an outstanding view over the Troulos bay. There is a good sized swimming pool and a very good pool bar. The driveway from the main road is not just steep it's very steep, not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. A 600 metre walk to the super marketis fine going but uphill going back. The appartment we stayed in while not large, was adequate and was clean and well decorated. The bus service to Skiathos town is very good and cheap. I think the best of the local restaurents was the one called Paradosi which provided good quality, quantity food at reasonable prices. e.g a starter main course and a half litre of wine for around 18 euros, wereas other tavernas charged as much as 30 euros. All in all we had a very good holiday at the Luna Appartmens"

"Have just returned from an absolutely fantastic holiday, staying at La Luna, Troulos with Demitiris and Stavrula being the best host and hostess ever. The apartments have recently been refurbished, and are the best we've ever stayed in. The views over Troulos Bay are breathtaking, and there are all the facilities you need only a short walk away - although the hill back up to the hotel is quite steep.
The weather was hot and sunny for all but one day during our week, which was ideal since we did all our souvenier shopping in Skiathos Town on that day!
I would recommend this place to anyone who would like to have a relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings."
