Villa Apollon Skiathos
16 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"Before booking the Apollon we scoured the internet for suitable accommodation on Skiathos which ticked as many boxes as possible for the budget we had. After much deliberation the Apollon appeared to be the best option for us and had good user reviews (always important).
Booking was done by email and the owners were quick and easy to deal with. On arrival we discovered that the apartments were located just off the main road. Initially this caused some concern as there is a degree of road noise and was our main gripe and we were surprised that it was not mentioned in other reviews, however after touring most of the island it is apparent that most accommodation that is anywhere near any amenities is located on the road, after a couple of days we had more or less forgotten about it.
The apartment was clean and had adequate equipment (usually in self catering we find a motley collection of crockery and cooking utensils) and also included a safe and air conditioning in the price (a pleasant surprise) and a welcome bottle of wine. Cleaning was daily and linen was changed twice a week. Whilst not large it was fine for a 14 night stay. The balcony was a good size and had a great view over the sea.
The location is good, being a 5-10 minute walk (depending on fitness) to the nearest beach (nice size, sandy, not overcrowded, sunbeds for hire etc), 4 tavernas and supermarket, though this is up/down hill and partially along the road. Buses and a water taxi (from beach) to and from the town are regular and take 15 mins.
Donuia and the Captain (owners) were friendly and staff helpful, the pool was lovely and has sunbeds and towels provided. There is a bar which also does adequate food. For nice food we can recommend The Windmill (expensive but great food and fantastic view), 1901 (more traditional food) and Marias (nice pizzas and salads and reasonably priced) all in Skiathos town.
If we were to return to Skiathos we would use the Apollon again. In fact many of the guests appear to be repeat business which must mean something."

"We have recently returned from a two week stay at Villa Apollon and had a wonderful holiday. Our one bedroom apartment on the top floor had an enormous balcony with fantastic views. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and maid service was excellent. Dounia and Captain go out of their way to look after their guests and make you feel welcome to their home. There is a lovely pool area with really comfortable padded sun loungers and swimming towels provided clean each morning.
The only small criticism we could make would be that the bathroom was very tiny and a little outdated, but apart from that the accommodation was fine with a brand new very comfortable bed. We mostly like to try out different places to eat in the evenings, but on recommendation stayed in a couple of times and the food was excellent, especially the Captain's king snapper that he cooked us one night. Also his "special frappes" are well worth a try. We would certainly recommend Villa Apollon for a very relaxing, chill out holiday."

"We were recommended Villa Apollon by friends who had stayed a couple of years previously. I'm so glad we took their recommendation - it was a fantastic holiday! As I'm sure many other reviewers will have written, what made it particularly special were the Captain and Dounia who were so friendly and helpful and made it feel like a home from home. We're in the process of sorting out some dates to come back again next year!
The food was great - and large portions! The views were exactly as they were on the website - with all rooms having equally great views. Very comfy sunbeds by the pool with towels provided. And there were new beds in the apartments which were really comfy.
All in all a fantastic place."

Roll on next year
"Really enjoyed ourselves at the Villa Apollon. Dounia and Captain make you feel like one of the family in this beautifully situated apartment. Rooms and all facilities are kept to the highest standard of cleansliness. Food and bar facilities are excellent. Right next to bus stop which takes you from one end of the island to the other. Beach is only a five minute walk away."

OK but wasn't as good as reviewers make out
"The Apollon is well located for travel into town or to the beaches. The main road is steep but bus stops are nearby. There are two supermarkets and a great cake shop within 5 mins and they will deliver your shopping for free. A water taxi runs to town from Achladies beach 10 mins away. Skiathos town is full of classy shops and restaurants.
At Apollon the Captain was very helpful but Dounia could be difficult and they didn't always get on too well. Overall however they were relaxed and helpful to guests.
There was a nasty smell from the drain along the driveway. The studio apartment we stayed in was basic with little storage and the bed was really hard. The view from the balcony was beautiful and a great suntrap. We always go self catering but the mini kitchen was not well equipped so unsuitable for cooking anything really. Food at Apollon came in vast quantities which is fine if that's what you like. The pool was lovely and never seemed crowded.
For the price we paid I think it was a good deal but if the rooms were upgraded it would be a real jewel."

"We returned last night from a perfect week at the Villa Apollon. Although we hit an almost unbearable heatwave, we had the most magical and joyous time with Dounia and the Captain, who make your stay feel like you're part of a huge family. The rooms were immaculate - extremely clean, well-equipped, with air conditioning - and the views superb. Captain's food is the best we had on the island, and the whole atmosphere is one of happiness and relaxation. We laughed all week, and met some wonderful people. There is no doubt at all that we we will be back, and very soon."

"Just arrived back from this fantastic place, Dunia and Captain are amazing hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The apartments themselves have everything you could possibly need and very clean. The views from the bar and pool are some of the best on the Island.
Very highly recommended.

The most relaxed we've ever been!
"We stayed at the Villa Apollon at the beginning of June 2007. The Villa is fantastic: there are incredible views across the sea, the apartments are very clean and cool, the food - home cooked by the Captain - is astounding, and it is only a short walk to a number of other bars and, of course, the beach. Skiathos itself is a beautiful island with amazing beaches, and the town - whilst peaceful - has plenty of good restaurants and bars. From the Villa to the town you can walk, drive, get the bus, or - our favourite - get the water taxi."

"We had never been to Skiathos before but reading all the reviews it sounded just what we were looking for, and Skiathos was absolutely stunning, fantastic people (which the Greeks always are) just a lovely place to go.
Reading the reviews on Villa Apollon it seemed just what we were looking for, but I've got too agree with the review wrote by Dakota3 the only plus was the view, we were plagued by ants in the bath room, the sheets and towels had seen better days we actually went and purchased our own towels, never used the cooker but i'm not sure we would have wanted to anyway. The owners have two Alsatians, now we are dog owners and appreciate dogs have to go to toilet but the only bit of grass was below our balcony, it was cleaned on a sort of regular basis although there were times it was left over night! On the plus side you did get airconditioning.
The poolside was in an unacceptable condition loose slabs poor general maintenance no real area to relax on the loungers they were just placed side by side like sardines I'm also sure it was the most I paid for a beer on the Island 3 Euros and the noise some nights was beyond a joke if we'd wanted Kos Malia or Flarakai we would have gone! As stated by Dakota3 go to Skiathos but think very carefully about staying at Villa Apollon!!!"

Our special place. J Mannion. Warrington
"We have just returned yet again from our visit to Villa Apollon. As usuall the reception we got was second to non although we now regard it as our second home. We have been visiting the Apollon for about 8 years sometimes twice We have taken both our children and their partners thinking perhaps it would be to quiet for them but they both loved it enough to return . Dounia and Captain can't do enough for you and the food is just to good they will do their best to provide any special requests Captains Steaks are just brilliant and he will go out specially for fresh fish straight of the boat .(We always come back a few pounds heavier than we went). The rooms are spotless and cleaned every day and if you find anything amiss you just have to tell them and it is done straight away anything from a clean tea towel to a plumbing disaster. We have visited other Islands in Greece and found the apartments very basic where as the Apollon has many extras provided Micowaves, Irons, hairdryers ect not that I ever use them but they are there if needed. All in all the perfect place perfect views perfect hosts perfect place. Yes we will be retuning next year!"
