"This was our first time to skiathos, and we found it to be the best greek island we've been too.Staying at the filokalia was a memorable experience, nothing was too much trouble even when my son locked himself in the toilet .The apartments were spotless ,towels and sheets changed every couple of days.Shellina's cooking was fantastic especially the lasagne on quiz nights. The food and drink was very good value and good size portions ! The apartments were tucked away from the main road ,with very well kept pretty gardens."

Loved the Filokalia
"Stayed at the Filokalia Apartments last week - our first visit to Skiathos. It was really lovely. Alkis and Shilima were great hosts and apartments were spotless. Shilima did a great breakfast if you wanted to eat there. You could also have lunch. We were made to feel so welcome. Had great fun at the Greek Night. We will definitely be returning next year!"

"Stayed here for a week with my wife and our 6 year old daughter and loved it.
Alkis the owner and his assistant Shilima are very helpful and welcoming to all the guests.
The rooms are very clean and for 8 euros a day have a/c which was very useful. A safe is also available in the rooms for a nominal charge of 10 euors per week.
For a relaxing week in the sun in clean modern and above all welcoming apartments you can't beat the Filokalia."

Filokalia Appartments.... simply the best
"Just got back last night from this brilliant place having read the other reviews on this site prior to booking. What they all say is true! It is absolutely fantastic. We have been taking holidays in Greece for many years, including two previous visits to Skiathos, and the Filokalia Appartments are the very best yet.
Extremely well maintained, spotless with superb staff. The food is super with meals available at the pool bar. (If you're missing home, Sheleena's bacon sarnies are just the job!)
Prices of food and drink are very reasonable, the pool is sparklingly clean, as are the rooms, with top-class maid service.
It is literally a 5 minute steady walk to the main road with a bus every 15 minutes stopping outside, although the Water Taxi into Skiathos Town (2 Euros) is the best way into town in an evening, and runs from the nearby beach (7 minute walk)
A high percentage of the other guests had stayed there before, which really says it all. If we go back to Skiathos, I would definitely stay at Filokalia.
Overall 10 out of 10 for everything, but most of all, the friendly staff.

"We spent two fabulous weeks in Skiathos (31 Aug-14 Sept). We stayed at the Filokalia studios/apartments in Achladies & do not have a bad word to say about the place!
We stayed in an apartment, which is supposed to sleep 4, so very spacious for just us two, with a lovely big balcony & a wonderful view of the surrounding valley & the sea in the distance. The bins were emptied every day, the apartment was cleaned/towels roughly every other day I believe & linen a couple of times a week. We never had a problem with this at all. The studios/apartments are situated at the end of a windy road (with a very slight incline), about 5 mins from the main road that runs through Achladies. Sometimes it was a slight push to get us up there after a hard day on the beach...but a cocktail waiting at the bar pushed us forward! The actual apartments are situated on a hillside, so anyone with mobility issues would have some problems getting to the higher placed apartments, but this was clearly stated before we booked so it wasnât a problem for us.
Everyone was very friendly & couldnât do enough to help make our stay even better. Alkis, the owner, is the perfect host, looking after the bar in the evening & sometimes staying up way too late for the day-job! A lovely lady called Shellina is fantastic running the place during the day, cooking up some lovely breakfasts/pizzas/sarnies/burgers â anything. Sheâll make you whatever you wish! Nothing is too much trouble for her. She organised a days Speed Boat hire from the local beach for us â which we would highly recommend â a fabulous day out. It cost 70euros for the boat hire & then we used 30euros fuel. This was for a full days use â from approx 10am â till 5pm (although they said that we could have it till 6, as long as we rang to say we were OK â very accommodating). We visited the neighbouring little islands, found ourselves a little beach all to ourselves & stopped off at a taverna on the island opposite for some pork souvlaki & a drink while we took in the views â fabulous, fun day.
Back to the apartments, as mentioned in previous reviews, the only thing missing is air conditioning, which is being fitted in January, ready for the 2008 season, so this will help with those hot nights. Although we didnât really have any major problems, other than the first night, which was very humid â I think we were acclimatising ourselves also after leaving dreary Britain.
Achladies is a lovely little place, very low-key with a few taverners scattered along the beach & along the main road. A truly beautiful place for a relaxing 2 weeks in the sun. Would highly recommend both Skiathos & Filokalia."

"We stayed in these apartments for a week in August 2007. The apartments were nearly new, extremely clean and spacious with a particularly generous balcony. They are about 7-10 minutes from the beach and a couple of minutes from the main road. There's no incline to speak of until you reach the apartments where some of them are up some steep steps. However the view more than compensates for this. The only small drawback is lack of airconditioning (it was August!) but work has already begun on getting this up and running for next year.
The owners were terrific and always ready to serve up some lovely food and drink. The Greek night is definately worth a go. The swimming pool and bar area are lovely and there's always plenty of room even in the middle of August.
The nearby beach is one of the best on the island and again you'll always find a spare sun lounger or two. The beach fronted tavernas serve excellent food day and evening. The bus into the town is well worth the experience (perhaps just once though!) but the water taxi is an altogether more relaxing experience. The town itself is pretty and very cosmopolitan.
Overall excellent apartments on a lovely island."

Yasso Alkis & Shellina
"Slight incline off the main road to these lovely self contained individual apartments, immaculate, spaceish & A/C. You will need to climb about 40 steps to reach the more private apartments at the top but well worth the view!
We felt home from home being cooked breakfast each morning from Shellina & being served beverages all day around the un-crowded pool.
Alkis is keeping the personal touch of a family run business, serving wicked drinks & pizza's in the evening & the BBQ night is great even when the Greek dancer falls in the pool !
Great beach location & a short bus or taxi ride about 10e into the gorgeous town. I've been visiting Skiathos for 20 years & travelled far afield but Skiathos is still my favorite!!
See you again2008. Have a great rest during the winter Alkis & Shellina - Yamos love Jeanette"

"Just got back from Skiathos, which was a last minute deal, and what a fabulous holiday we've had!
After reading many reviews about this place, with the steap walk to the apartments and torches needed at night, I can advise that this is NOT the case at all! The walk is a slight incline, if that and the road is well lit.
Filokalia apartments are a perfect choice for a self catering holiday, rooms are basic but EXTREMELY clean. The owner Alkis is very friendly and always waiting at the bar to pour a cold beer, along with Sheilena who is english and very helpful also. With a small swimming pool, nice pool bar and being a 5 minute walk from the beach, we found little to critisize. If we were to, it would be to warn that they are relatively new apartments and have yet to have air conditioning installed and as we were in the middle of a heatwave this would have been helpful, but they did provide fans for â¬3 a day hire and without this we would have struggled!!!! BUT we were advised that air con is being fitted in time for next season.
The bus stop is at the end of the road (bus stop 10) which runs frequently (every 15/20 mins) and runs from one end of the island to the other. However if venturing into Skiathos town, would strongly recommend the water taxi as the bus gets very busy and will not stop to pick up if this is the case. Water taxi time tables are displayed all around the town of Achladies. It picks you up from Achladies beach (from a small Jetty that you cannot miss it's the only one). The cost is â¬2 per person and takes 15/20 mins to take you in Skiathos town Harbour, it is also a very good way of cooling down!
We can recommend a restaurant that is just around the back of Skiathos town harbour bars (cut through the little alley before the Rock and Roll Bar, turn right and it 's on the left) called Maria's, which is fantastic, you will more than likely have to que for a table, but be assured this is well worth the wait and there is an air con pub (Old Port House) next door to wait in. We managed Maria's 3 times in 1 week, but the there is some serious garlic in their bread so be warned.
We will be returing to Skiathos and the Filokalia as soon as we possibly can as we feel we have been missing something here, as it is a truely beautiful Island, with extremely friendly locals and has managed to hold on to the Greek charm that some other islands appear to have lost of late."

Fab Holiday - Magical Island
"We have just returned from a wonderful week at the Filokalia! The accomodation was comfy & spotlessly clean, and the welcome from the owner Alkis & manager Shellina exceeded our expectations. The bar served the most delicious selection of food, prepared by Shellina's fair hand- all at very reasonable prices. The track leading up to the Filokalia is
fairly steep but as it is a gradual ascent it did not pose too many problems even for the older unfit clientele! We cannot wait to return to this magical island and are considering booking independantly at Filokalia for a longer stay! "
