"Hotel staff are friendly and very helpful, Heidi from the pool bar makes a great cup of tea!!! Rooms cleaned every day apart from sunday.
Hotel overall is very clean and tidy, pool area is excellent and spacious. One word of warning the pool is not suitable for young kids as the majority is quite deep, over 2M.

We would have given the Aethria 10/10 but the breakfast was some what of a disappointment, standard continental type offerings with not much of a choice or change.
The hotel is ideally situated, centre of town is only a 10 min walk. Pop into Rumours on the way in and say hello to Wanda and Paul...a really nice couple and excellent bar. We found the Thassian and Twins to be the best restaurants in town.. good friendly service and excellent food at a good price.

A car is needed to explore the island as the bus service isn't what was advertised... only one or two services a day to most locations. The water taxi from the harbour to Golden Beach (7 euros return) is highly recommended, but the same boat to Makryamos Beach may not guarantee access as it is a private area.

The archeological remains are very impressive and extensive. The signposted route to the ancient theatre and acropolis leads you to dead end so instead make your way to the end of the town beach through the boat yard and up to the church on the headland and follow the path upwards. Well worth the effort as the views across the town are stunning. Stop at the lovely taverna on the way back for a Mythos or 3...

Overall Thassos is a beautiful place but very quiet and in our opinion not really suitable for young children. The town beaches are not very good, shingle and pebbles and very crowded but there are some wonderful beaches further afield. The shops are the usual holiday fair, but a nice stroll down the main street and the old harbour after a heavy evening meal is highly recommended. "

"Would highly recommend the Aethria hotel, friendly staff and the pool was great with plenty of sunbeds.

Together with my husband, brother and sister-in-law spent two weeks at the Aethria in July. We really enjoyed Thassos town and will go again, the hotel is five minutes walk to main town and Rumours bar is a great place for a drink and snacks, Wanda and Paul are great hosts. Would also recommend Al Greco as a place to eat but be warned portions are huge."

"We flew from Manchester to Kavala airport on the mainland where you are taken by coach to catch the ferry to Thassos.

The ferries are every half an hour so we were basically straight on. It took approx 30 mins to reach Thassos, and we really enjoyed the crossing feeding the many seagulls that come along for the ride and take bread out of your hands.

The Aethria Hotel was excellent, very clean with helpful & friendly staff. The pool was great along with the pool bar which offer drinks & limited snacks during the day.

Generally the island of Thassos caters for those looking for a quiet & relaxing holiday, we stayed in Thassos Town which was really quite busy in the evenings due to it being the height of the Greek holiday period.

Initially we were a little disappointed in the meals served in some of the tavernas, but the hotel manager advised us that some of the tavernas actually use frozen food & microwave due to it being the busy period. He recommended the following which offered fresh cooked food served in a great atmosphere, Syrtaki by the old harbour, Moyses & Meooyeiog near the ferry which we found excellent and visited several times.

The Island is very beautiful, covered in pine and olive trees. Visit the village of Panagia which has natural springs running through the streets and a water fountain in the small square where many people, both local and tourists, stop to take a drink and fill their water bottles. Opposite this is a lovely taverna that has pork, lamb & chicken cooking on the spit - a great place for lunch.

The beaches of Makkryamos & Golden beach are lovely and can be easily reached by a water taxi. Take the boat trip from the old harbour, Eros 2, (cheaper than Kosmar) great for viewing the island and swimming with a bbq on board for lunch. Hiring a car is a good idea to visit the many small beaches around the Island, great for snorkelling.

Thassos is a great place for a quiet relaxing holiday but be prepared for the long journey home via Skiathos we left the hotel at 09.30 & arrived in Manchester at 18.30."

"The Aethria Hotel is in a fantastic location in Thassos town, within easy walking distance of the shops and tavernas. Only a 5 min walk to the main street.

The hotel is set in lovely spacious grounds with a large freeform pool. There are plenty sunbeds and large parasols around the pool. They are arranged so that under a parasol you get 2 sunbeds ,2 chairs, and a table.

There is a pool bar which is very reasonably priced.

Our room was well furnished with plenty wardrobe space and included a fridge (great for the wine/beer).The shower was a cubicle rather than the usual Greek hole in the floor!

Our balcony was spacious and overlooked the pool (just!).

Breakfast was plentiful and included bread, cheese, ham, yoghurt, fruit, cereal, and eggs.

The resort of Thassos town is fantastic and has plenty shops selling jewellery, leather and gifts. There is a great selection of tavernas serving traditional Greek dishes and a selection of international dishes.

Our favourites were Syrtaki ,Simi, and Thassian."

"We have just returned from a very enjoyable week, staying at the Aethria hotel in Thassos Town.

We were very pleased with everything about the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, any problems were quickly solved. The pool was fantastic, with plenty of sun beds. If they were all taken, there were always some extra ones situated in the extensive gardens. We couldn't believe how much space there was, much more than any other hotel we saw in Thassos Town.

Our room was spacious and well appointed and very clean. The whole hotel had been refurbished in 2005, so looked great. The breakfast was typical of any in Greece, nothing special.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing time during the day and the buzz of nightlife on your doorstep. We would like to return but have too many other Greek Islands to explore for now."

"Just returned from 2 weeks at the Aethria Hotel in Thassos Town. It was difficult to fault anything at this hotel.

It is one of the cleanest hotels we have ever stayed in, our room was cleaned every day, usually during the time we were at breakfast. The swimming pool must be one of the largest in Thassos, it was immaculately clean, although we never saw anybody actually cleaning it, and the pool bar was open and staffed continuously for drinks and snacks.

All the staff at this hotel were friendly and helpful, and after several attempts by reception to rectify our air conditioning 'problem', a new set of batteries in the remote control did the trick. The hotel is ideally situated for the short walk into Thassos Town on an evening, and the beaches of Tarsanas and Prinos were within walking distance during the day.

We were told that Makryamos Beach was only a 20 minute walk but we preferred the 5 Euro taxi ride. We would recommend this hotel to anyone, and hope to return soon."
