"Hotel Matina, how to start, Hotel matina is relaxing, no other hotel provides the exclusive care that they do.it is an eccentric place, swimming in the pool or swimming at the beach just 50 metres away. Hotel Matina can give you the ultimate trust and promise that they will look after you under their care. The owners are extremely nice people which give you what you desire from them. If you are a family wishing for a nice Hotel to just pop up right in front of you well this doesn't just stand out, it provides the residenst with Bike hire, Car hire, scooper diving lessons, and a cocktails for young singles or couples. you can enjoy a tour around the Greek villages scattered all over the island and boat rides down the coast of the island to see how the greeks live and spend their time. WOW, this pplace just gives me the gouse bumps. If i were you i'd choose Hotel Matina for its comfortable lounging area and relaxation. "

"I am always sceptical about returning to a holiday resort where I had such a good time. In 2006, my wife and I holidayed in Kampos, Samos and had a fantastic time. This time, using Thomson, we booked in at Hotel Matina in Ireon, Samos, which is the other side of the island from Kampos.
Upon arrival we were shown to a small clean and compact room overlooking the pool and pool bar area. There are only 7/8 rooms here but immediately I noticed that a 3 storey extension had been built which stopped sunlight getting to the pool and sunbed area. We stayed b&b and the brochure stated that a breakfast buffet, pool bar and snack bar were provided. The breakfast was a tray of prepared bread, coffee, small juice and either egg, chocolate croissant, triangle of cheese or processed meat (not determinable) on set days. If you don't like cheese triangles like I don't, there is no alternative and you are left with a jam sandwich.
The pool bat was never open or should I say never staffed, through complete disregard and laziness. When we did sit round the pool, no-one was available to serve and when we brought our own drinks a hastily written notice appeared saying that we were not allowed to consume our own food and drink due to 'taxation purposes'. There were no snack bar facilities. There were no drinks facilities and all in temperatures in top 90's early 100's!!
As for the sun, the recently built extension has stopped the light getting onto the pool and sun bed area until at least 1pm in the afternoon and goes back into shadow about 4.45pm. So a huge portion of the day was spent in shade. No wonder most people went to the beach! I don't know how the hotel will cope with the extension and the guests it will cater for. At present there are enough rooms and dining room spaces for 10 couples. the extension will provide accommodation for an extra 15 rooms, a potential of another 30 people! Not a lot of thought has gone into this.
Although covered by Thomson, the management seemed to favour Greek & German guests and the notice about consuming your own drink/food around the pool disappeared when they appeared in the second week. They were allowed drink and food with not comment.
It is a great pity that this is the fact at Matina because it is the only hotel with a swimming pool; superbly located; very clean and well maintained, but run nonchalantly by an uncaring management who are lazy and sit around all day after 'breakfast'. They make an art of looking busy while doing nothing."
