Great Price, but Loud!
"My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Orestias Castorias in late June. Being budget minded, we were not surprised by the size of the rooms (very small), but we were extremely overwhelmed by the amount of noise produced by people walking and talking in the hallways. The wood floors and stone walls tend to amplify any and all sound. Street sounds, no problem, but inside, forget it. On the bright-side, the staff was extremely accommodating during our visit, and the morning coffee was fabulous. Plus, you can walk just to about anywhere in Thessaloniki in 15 minutes. Good value, but if you want to sleep, bring some earplugs."

Great location, friendly and helpfull staff, excellent rate quality/money
"Great location, recently refreshed building - rooms, bathroom and interior. And in all rooms and at the reception there is free internet access. Beds are very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpfull!"

Super-friendly staff, above-average facilities
"Nice place, well-located for the sights and the shopping. Hotel has a slighly institutional feel (a former hospital/school?) about the corridors and rooms, but everything was clean and satisfactory. Room size was good (high ceilings give airy impression), although there don't seem to be any doubles (only twins). There was a small issue with the toilet plumbing, but it was rectified very swiftly. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful, both as to the hotel and also in respect of maps/sights/suggestions etc."

Made a woman travelling solo feel so safe
"Everyone on the staff at the Orestias Kastorias was very friendly, helpful, welcoming, charming and kind. I arrived just before 10pm on Wednesday 7 April after being delayed out of Skiathos because it was too windy for the Seacat to leave at 8.15am (eventually got away at 3.20pm), then I'd been on a bus for about 3 hours from Volos, so I was glad to get to the hotel. From bus station to hotel was 25 minutes and 6 euros. The hotel was very clean, freshly painted and suitably idiosyncratic (well, this is Greece!) No lift, but my holdall was carried up the twisting staircase for me as if it weighed no more than an eggbox. My room was on the first floor, with a balcony looking out towards Aristotelous Square. Cool cotton bedlinen, a light but cosy duvet, ensuite loo with shower. You're not going to spend a lot of time in a hotel room when Thessaloniki is buzzing outside, but it served me well. And at 42 euros a night with as much free tea and coffee (and delicious chocolate shortbreads) as I could manage for breakfast, it was a bargain. Free wi-fi too. I wanted to book a taxi for midday to get me to the airport in good time, but I was assured that a cab would be there in two minutes as soon as they rang for one. 90 seconds it took - I swigged the last of my coffee and watched in appreciation as the Thodori hefted my luggage into the boot. The cabbie was funny and friendly and we managed to converse in Greek, English and a bit of German. About 35 mins to the airport - fast. 18 euros. I'd definitely stay there again. Excellent location and alone, I felt perfectly safe and well looked after."

WoW!!! Exceed my expectations
"I relly looked for a low budget hotel in Thessaloniki for 4 days! I looked in trip advisor and i found this little gem. The hotel is so centrally located - just steps above Aristotelous Square. But the most important is not the location but the hospitality. The people there made us feel like a family ( they offered us coffee at any time of the day-great if you consider that the hotel has no food facilities), the owner offered me his car parking because i was a bit worried for that. The rooms are not someting that the hotel should be proud of but they are in process of renovating the building. If i would return there? ABSOLUTELY YES!!!"

Excellent location but...
"This hotel is best for young people on a tight budget. The location is excellent and the staff very helpful, but has a lot of disadvantages. There is no lift in the old building and the bathrooms were built into the existing rooms, with very poor isolation and ventilation. We found old newspapers under our bed and the handshower has no curtain and no hook. For breakfast you get coffee and cookies - nothing more. The price is attractive, but there are too many handicaps."

Gem in Thessaloniki
"This hotel is to be highly recommended. First of all its location in Thessaloniki is excellent. 30 minute walk from the train station, with easy access to city buses. Just above the hotel sits St. Demetrios. Just below lies the ruins of the Roman agora, then a long pedestrian mall reaching to the waterfront. The city market is on the way to the mall. Restaurants and bakeries are everywhere and nearby. The sights are all within walking distance of the hotel. The reception is excellent. The staff was unfailing courteous, helpful, pleasant and friendly. The hotel offers coffee and cookies in the morning and coffee all day, without charge. We certainly enjoyed our frappés on returning to the hotel. This complimentary coffee alone is worth the price of admission given the incredible cost of coffee in Greece. The room was large and very clean. The bathroom came with bar soap and shampoo. The towels were nice and soft and changed daily. On the day before leaving the towels werenât changed. We asked at reception, he apologized profusely and gave us three bath towels to use. Our room faced a street filled with restaurants, so it was a bit noisy until around 11 p.m. We had a nice little balcony to use as well. The hotel provides free WiFi in the rooms and the speed is very good. This hotel is well priced, well located and deserves our full recommendation"

Very good value
"We stayed one night on our way home from Trikeri Island, on the recommendation of someone we met whilst on holiday. The staff were very friendly and helpful, carrying the suitcases up the stairs for us, we were on the 1st floor, and letting me use the reception computer to print our return boarding passes as the guest computer in the lounge did not have a printer attached! The room was clean and quiet, at least when we stayed. There was no breakfast, as such, but they did provide free tea or coffee and biscuits. They also advised us on our travel arrangements to the airport, saving us money! We will definitely be staying there next year on our way to and from Trikeri."

A Gem of a Hotel
"This was a great hotel it was my first time in Thessaloniki and there was such a selection to choose from and I picked this based on previous reviews. Its family run and the staff are lovely and friendly. They don't serve breakfast but that was not a problem as it in a great location. There are bars/cafes literally a 5min walk away. A great fruit shop across the way. Its a 10 minute stroll to the main town. The rooms are great high ceilings with great a/c. Its great value I paid 80euro for two nights. One point try and get rooms at the front of the hotel I changed rooms and got one to the side. There are bars on this side an dwhile it is not very noisy rooms facing the front are quieter. All in all a great little hotel great location and lovely staff. Would highly recommend!!"

"Great little hotel in the center of town. Very friendly and helpful. Let 5 (3 little kids) of us stay in one room which was totally awesome. Had to leave at 4:45am and they had the coffee and cookies ready for us. Lots of Cafes and shops nearby. Rooms were clean. Would definitely return."

Good location, excellent price
"We were 2 families with teenagers. We stayed 2 nights in early June. This hotel is old and kind of funky. The rooms were clean and our rooms were quiet. The staff were great. They let us check-in at 10:30 AM and even offered us cookies and coffee while one of the rooms was being cleaned. They also kept our luggage after we checked out until we could pick it up on the way to the airport that night. The location is excellent. We walked to all the sights we wanted to visit. The price is great."
