"My two children Alice,8 years old and Marc, 3 years old loved playing on the sandy beach. My husband and me felt that there was a gentle touch of care for the children in everything: Special breakfast buffet, special Kinder Menus at the Beach Bar, Children Happy Hour with special Ice Cream reduction and movies at the Kafeneon. This is a family hotel clean, safe and Happy ! I truly recommend this hotel to all young couples who hate large complex hotels and Family Clubs ! This is a cool private resort! "

Our experience in Alexander the Great hotel
"We were staying in this hotel for 5 nights, this year but i can hardelly tell that it is not worthing the money. First we received a very bad room with damp on the walls and especially in the bathroom, i have asked for another room and after a big argue with the guys at the reception finally we have received another room (better and inside the hotel, the first one was in the hotel annex). On the outside the hotel is beautiful with a big garden and a superb beach view. They also have 4 restaurants an bars, and they are organizing "parties" almost every night but nothing special....i enjoyed the greek night. The beach is very clean and beautiful and it is the most beautiful beach in the region (we saw other beaches which were very crowded ).The prices for 2 beach beds and one umbrella is 8 Euro/day, but you can take for more days at half price (we payed 20 euros for 5 days). The prices on the beach bar are very high: one bear 4,5 Euro; water: 2 euros, sandwiches: 6 Euros etc. The food is ok in the restaurant, but you have to pay for the drinks at dinner (expensive too), if you want to drink..but is not mandatory. The conclusion is that the accomodation is bad (it isn't a 4 star hotel....it is a 2 star hotel); but the surroundings are very beautiful."

"One of the best holidays I had! The Hotel is right in front of the sea, keep in mind that at the beach there are usually only hotel-stayers , so its very quiet and clean. The service at the reception was good and everyone there was happy to help us. The rooms were cleaned every day and the towels every 3 days. All in all, we were very satisfied with Alexander the Great in Halkidiki!"

great beach will compensate modest room
"Hotel is really worth the money that we have paid, and I still think we got a good deal. I have been there in July 2008 and I liked the beach the most. You really don't need to go to any other beach as it's the nicest one around. Rooms are modest but clean with big balconies with sea view (at least mine was). My 5year-old son enjoyed so much on playgrounds and pool. Triky part is that you have bed and umbrella for free on the pool, but on the beach you have to pay. It's not terrible: 2 beds&umbrella for 10 days about 35 eur. What is terrible is refreshments prices on the beach and pool: cofee 2-4.5 eur, soda 3 eur, sandwich 6 eur, so my theory is that they offer fair price for accomodation and then they rob you in coffee shops. Food in restaurant was acceptable. Every night they make some kind of party, but nothing special. I like greek night. Hotel stuff is kind and at service. Lovely gardens around the hotel, parking available. I would recommend it for families."

4* beach and territory, 2* accomodation
"We were staying in Alexander the Great beach hotel in July 2007. The choice of the hotel was unusual: we were staying in other hotel nearby two years ago and visited Alexander's beach regularly and it was then that we fell in love with the hotel beautiful buildings and gardens, so we were just wondering how great the hotel might be inside if it was so great outside! I am not sure how exactly the star rating is awarded to the hotels in Greece, but I can definitely say that Alexander the great premises do not deserve 4* rating! Here are just some facts (We were paying EUR 110 per night for a double room, breakfast included): 1) The reception seems to be rather inefficient, with just one person working there at a time, so the check-in process took us around 20 minutes with just one person in front of us; 2) There were no soaps, shampoos, etc in the bathroom (very worn down bathroom, by the way) as we arrived and when we inquired the reception, we were informed that WE ACTUALLY HAD TO SPECIFICALLY ASK FOR THEM; 3) Air conditioning in the room was awful and this was probably the worst thing of all as it was around 40C outside. Normally, in sothern countries you are relived when getting to the cool room from the sun, but not there! 4) The breakfast was plentiful in amounts, but very basic in content: not too many things in addition to continental breakfast (w/o croissants, of course:) 5) We had to pay EUR 6 per day for the umbrella and the sunbeds on the beach, even though we were the hotel guests. The hotel definitely takes a lot of care for the gardens and plants on the territory, the beach and the sea there are amazing too. The distance from nearest town is around 50 min walking. All in all, it might be an ideal resort for peaceful holidays on the sea; however, it's just a pity that the hotel management does not put an effort to make the inside as attractive as the outside!"

Simple and great!
"We spend 10 amazing days in September at this uniquely situated hotel. The hotel's beach is definetely postcard material, just amazing! The room was spacious and provided all the comforts one would require for his/her holiday including the breathtaking seaview scenery from our room's window. The people working at the hotel are totally friendly and helpful, so is the hotel's reception which gave us a some great excursion tips. We enjoyed the food alot, the menu had something for everybody's taste, including an excellent greek cuisine selection. Definetely something for people who want to experience simplicity and greek hospitality! We ll definetely come again!"

Do not recommend
"We are a family from Moscow (32, 36 and 5) and spent 2 weeks from 27Aug - 10 Sept 2006 in the Alexander the Great. We do not recommend this hotel to other people because the service was not good, food was not eatable (for breakfast there were 12 trays with the same cookies and one tray with omlette). Dinner was not tasty. Elevator didn't work every day. Sunbeds on the beach were out of date. The beach is good and sandy but the first two meters in the sea with small sharp stones."

absolutely not a 4-star hotel!!
"We spent 7 days at the Alexander the Great hotel in August, 2006. We had a double room at the main building, which was -supposedly- refurbished lately, but, as we could see, the only renovation was restricted to the furnitures, as the bathroom was like those of the 1970's. The mini bar's freezer was full of ice and its door wouldn't open, so we had to defrost it ourselves. The room had a safe box, but you had to pay in order to use it! The beach was great, in fact this was the only 'great thing' in this hotel! We had to rent the umbrella and two deck chairs for 4.5 euros per day- this was the price if you 'd pay at the reception, if you'd go to the beach without having prepaid for the above, they 'd cost you 6.5 euros/day! Beach/pool towels were NOT free as well. The coffee at the beach kiosk costs 4 euros and the small bottle of water (500ml) 0.80 euros (everywhere else in Greece it costs 0.50 euros). The staff was young and inexperienced, due to the fact that they were just students of the hotel's owner's private tourist school...The breakfast buffet was full of pre-baked pastries, but the evening buffet was good enough. All in all, Alexander The Great Beach Hotel is definately far from being a 4-star hotel! It is a relatively expensive hotel, while everything is 'extra'..."

Horrible Experience - Avoid It
"This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my entire life. We checked in and were taken to one "bungalow" which was a double room with four beds wedged into it, and a double on the basement floor of an annex building. The air conditioning barely worked at all, and the room was hotter than ever after it had been on for two hours. There was no hot water, and the room smelled of mold and bug spray. It looked like a $30 motel from 1950. When we asked to change rooms, the staff said that all that was available were suites, and we would have to pay double the price. The staff was rude, obstructive, and completely unhelpful. They said the air conditioning was what it was, and that the hot water would come on when enough people began using it. They refused to move the first evening. The next morning (and the room was still hot after a whole night of the air conditioning running), the front desk manager was no more helpful than the rest and was rude and arguementative. She slammed papers around, but finally moved us to the main building which was 100% better. Then, when we went to check out, they overcharged us, saying that we had full board (inclusive of dinner) even though there was no record of us eating dinner and we specifically asked for breakfast only. They would not change the billing, and we were forced to pay what they wanted to catch our plane and get our documents back. Do not stay at this hotel. The staff is beyond rude, and the accomodations outside of the main building are horrible. I still can't believe that hotel staff would behave in this manner."

"Great sea, with white sand, very clean. A nice pool and a great view from any location inside the hotel. Also a great restaurant, with very good service. Maybe a bit expencive but with this sea infront the hotel... cant be different."

"A great hotel in a beautiful environment. The hotel gives a modern impression and has spacey rooms. The reception staff however was during our stay very unfriendly towards most of the guests and not helpfull at all; in one word inhospitable. This is very unfortunate because they (the reception staff) submits the first impression of the hotel during check-in. Also the organization in the restaurant often was not appropriate or effective. Guests had to wait for food many times during breakfast as well as during dinner. Only the personnel at the poolbar and the beachbar was affable and did a great job. Although we had a nice holiday we don't plan to come to this hotel ever again."

a piece of paradise
"This hotel has an absolutely beautiful beach with clear blue waters. I had several different restaurants to choose from that all offer something a little bit different. The pool is wonderful as well. The staff was helpful at all times. We loved this hotel and would love to go back again. It is near the village of Kalithea. Kalithea has great shops, restaurants, and bars as well. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is a great value."
