We came back from Pella Beach on 29 Sept...
"We came back from Pella Beach on 29 September. The weather for our two weeks was abysmal so we spent quite a bit of time in the hotel whilst the rain poured outside along with thunder and lightening some evenings too. It was also cold so leaving all the doors wide open was not appreciated as the guests tried to occupy their time in the hope that the sun would come out at some time. Where were the entertainments team? Not to be seen very often that's for sure, just a few worn out puzzles and board games placed on very few tables! The entertainment in the evening would have been fine for children, very amateur although they tried hard. The hotel itself is in dire need of refurbishment which we heard was to take place during the winter months after it closes in October 2008. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, warm welcome from reception staff, likewise each evening from the head chef and the maitre d' at the entrance to the restaurant. The food was okay but very repetitive and very bland; we would have expected far better from a 4* hotel. The bedrooms are spacious and reasonably clean if you don't look under the beds - which we did after finding a HUGE black beetle crawling across the carpet one evening and we were on the 4th floor! There are plenty of sun loungers outside in the very nice gardens and also on the private beach. The pools are fine and the nearby hotel taverna serves meals and snacks during the day. Ask for a room on a reasonably high floor on the side opposite to the car park and enjoy a lovely view (when the weather is good!). There are two lifts so never a problem getting up to higher floors. Also would mention that there are no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms, strange for an allegedly 4* hotel. All carpets are worn, stained and not looking very well fitted (could be dangerous in places for old folk); the towels were sometimes very thin and ragged round the edges. Fruit and white wine is provided in the room on arrival which was a nice touch and there is a small 'fridge in the room. Towels for use on the beach or by the pools are free and can be changed every 2nd day - they were of better quality than most of the white bathroom towels! Ammundes bar opposite the hotel is recommended for both price of drinks and entertainment, friendly staff too. There were a lot of German, Austrian and Russian holidaymakers both at the Pella Beach and in and around Hanioti, very few of whom seem to want to be friendly or enjoy themselves, always looking very stern and even miserable. We were proud to be English and happily mix with anyone who returned a wish to show friendliness whatever their nationality. Hanioti seems to be the largest town on the Kassandra peninsula but there is very little of the original Greek culture to be found anywhere in Halkadiki these days and we thought the Sithonia peninsula was by far the most scenic. Thessaloniki airport was let down by filthy toilets! We are seasoned travellers but felt a little let down by the 4* rating of Pella Beach; maybe it will be better after the refurbishment. However, we would not return there and will never go back to Halkadiki either - if you want Greek culture, look elsewhere. "

"What a brilliant setting! All rooms have side seaview. Hotel has large gardens with lots of sunbeds backing on to its own section of beach. Could get sunbed whenever you got up. Good news for me. Supermarket and bar at hotel entrance and resort centre close by. But just far enough away for quiet. Staff really polite and friendly. Food good, not much English brekkie but so what. Room comfortable, I canât understand previous comments about needing refurbishing. Best air-con I have ever known - stays on when room card taken out. But needed as temperatures were 40 deg. Would I go back? Yes, yes, yes preferably next week! Can't recommend Pella Beach highly enough. "

"This is a lovely hotel with very nice gardens and pool area. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the main "Square" where the bars and restaurants are. There is a very nice bar just outside the hotel gates called ammudes which is family run. George the barman is very entertaining. The prices are very reasonable and stays open as long as you like. The hotel food is very good with a great choice. If you would prefer to have lunch instead of evening meal you can get a voucher from reception and swap. A very good idea as there are lots of great restaurants around to try. The pool area is spacious with lots of lovely gardens to sit in. You have the beach just a few steps away. Beach/pool towels are supplied (Saves on the packing). There was never a shortage of sunbeds. Hotel entertainment was a bot dissapointing. Not much happening during the day and the evening time consisted of bingo etc. Not our sort of thing but if you like that its great. Overall we had a brillant ime and would deffinately recommend this hotel to couples and families."

a fantastic holiday :o) !!!!!!
"We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Pella Beach, a delightful experience. The hotel is situated in a picturesque location surrounded by pretty gardens, overlooking the hotels own private stretch of beach. We arrived at the hotel late at night, however the staff were very welcoming and eager to offer assistance. The interior of the rooms and corridors are a little dated but pleasant and clean, though the views from the balcony made up for this. Breakfast and dinner are served in the hotels main resturant, the choice and quality of the food is most impressive, during our stay we encountered asian night, italian night and mediteranean night. There is a wide selection of salads, cold meats and pastas as well as a a large variety of hot foods, although it mostly varied night to night, the staples of the pella beach diet are spaghetti bolognese, an assortment of veg, mashed potato, chips, a vast selection of grilled meats, mini cheese pies, several types of hot pasta, fish choices, specialist veg dishes ( gratinated marrows and stuffed tomatoes for example), omelettes, local dishes ( such as greek moussaka ), soup etc. The chefs and waiting staff put in an extraordinary amount of effort into the service and presentation of the food. I would highly recommend this hotel for families with children, the entertainment staff are brilliant with them. My partner and I would sit in the pool during the afternoons laughing at them playing with the children in and around the pool. There are shows every night in the hotel taverna , each with a different theme. They usually run from 9.30 to elevenish, we would go there and walk the short distance into Hanioti afterwards. There is so much to keep both couples and families entertained, everybody we spoke to had a fantastic time."

"We really enjoyed our stay at the Grcotel pella beach, the location was excellent - right on the beach & only a 2 minute walk into the centre of Hanioti. The rooms were fine & we were greeted with a bottle of wine & basket of fruit upon arrival. The Food was very good with the option to have lunch in the beachside bar instead of having an evening meal, this was great as we could go out & sample meals in resort at night. The resort itself was very nice, lots of bars & restaurants. I would recommend Halkidiki & Hanioti for a relaxing holiday as there isn't a huge amount to do there."

"The hotel and the surrounding gardens were fabulous. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The buffet restaurant was very good, but sometimes the choice of food in the evening didn't really cater for the English guests. The pools were great and so was the beach, the only thing was that the beach was on an incline but the sunbeds were on an angle. The position of the hotel was great just 5 minutes from the square at Hanioti. "

"This is a friendly hotel with some nice touches - fridges in rooms, fruit on arrival, drying line on balcony, beach towels, and free sunbeds on beach. Some parts of the hotel need some updating, but the gardens are lovely. The rooms are basic and need updating but clean. Staff are friendly. The food was good and varied. Entertainment is low key. We did not like Hanioti - it is a small town consisting mostly of bars and mini markets. "

"I stayed for two weeks at Grecotel Pella beach in the summer of 2005. It was a wonderful holiday with an idyllic setting. The bars in the local village provided us with a good nightlife every night, always with different things happening! The hotel itself was very impressive and the rooms were more than comfortable. The hotel's swimming pools were great and if we got tried of them, the beach is literally only a stones throw away. The staff in the restaurant were all lovely and willing to lend assistance in any way they could. There was always a program of activities running on a daily basis which had something for everyone. The other members of staff in the hotel bars could not have been more helpful of kind either. All in all they provided me and the rest of my family with a unforgettable holiday and I hope to return as soon as I possibly can!!"

much better than expected
"stayed at the pella beach 4th-18th sept 2006 had a very pleasant stay., wine and fruit basket in room on arrival (wasn't expecting that) Rooms are very clean and comfortable maid every day, clean towels etc., beds a bit hard for me but ok. Pool towels provided which were changed whenever you asked so you really don't need to take any (saves on packing) Food excellent, so much choice and great quality and the staff are very friendly. The hotels location is great about 5 mins walk to where all the bars and tavernas are but not near enough to cause any noise, if you get fed up with all the hustle in the centre try Ammudes bar directly opposite the hotel entrance, george & nick make it a friendly place to while away the evening."

This is the second time we have been to ...
"This is the second time we have been to the Grecotel Pella Beach ... a week later than last year. We came back because the hotel was near perfect. The staff were extremely helpful, pleasant and sociable. The food I thought was excellent with different theme nights, but on fish night ... if you do not like fish like me ... there was enough other dishes to satisfy anyoneâs hunger. The waiter service was excellent with many of the waiters speaking 2, 3 or more languages so being understood was not a problem. The rooms were furnished to a good standard, very clean and tidy with maid service every day. The hotel rooms are a bit dated and could do with redecorating but overall 9 out of 10 for the rooms. The pool are was excellent too with free loungers, parasols and of course we had free towels. The private beach was just off the pool area and the water really really warm. You need to swim out 12 yards where there is a sand bank to stand on. The bars were again excellent although you need to shop around for the best prices... you can not go wrong with Ammudes directly opposite the hotel gate entrance, with George the owner - a young guy (brilliant) ... say Lee and Jane sent you (the King) and we will see them again at the end of September. Both Jane and l liked the resort so much we are going back again in September 06 our 2nd visit this year. We can't afford the Pella this time but are staying at another hotel. Having always been on Half Board l can't comment on the restaurants but there are hundreds of bars to choose from and the only complaint is is needs more livening up with a karaoke bar or more live music venues. But we really enjoyed ourselves. Lee 49 and Jane ??? can't tell/wont tell?? "

great older hotel
"Older hotel which in some areas needed a little TLC. Nice pool area with two pools plenty of sunbeds but you needed to put towels out by eight to get a decent one with an umbrella. Sand on beach very coarse. Location was great ten minutes to main square with shops and bars even closer, but just far enough away. Staff all very plesent. Rooms all have sea veiw and fridge. Grounds very pretty. I have left the best till last the food was unbelivable. So much choice and all expertly prepaired. Have to admit we all came home a few pounds heavier."

"I booked this hotel with a friend for a week's holiday for my birthday. I was very disappointed with the hotel, on first glance it looks lovely and looks the part, but look a bit deeper and its in desperate need of a refurb...bedrooms look like they haven't been updated for 10yrs, beds uncomfortable, rooms very noisy, can hear everything your next door neighbour doesn right down to flicking off the light at night, can't say I had one good nights sleep. Food choice was good but food was very bland, everything looked and was over cooked with left over vegtables and fruit being used the day after in other style dishes. Reception were not very friendly, altho I would say waiting staff were great, very helpful. Pool area, in need of an update say no more. Beach, very busy and noisy. Location was fab. Stay again??? Nope!"
