Restful holiday - Great apartments
"We had a fabulous week at the Ampelia studio's in September. Poppy and Pantelis were amazing hosts and genuinely couldn't do enough for us. The rooms were spotless and the pool area was fantastic. The food was great and the Greek night was a real highlight of the week. The only disappointing thing was that we only stayed for one week and not two! We're already planning next year's trip..."

Love the Hotel Love the owners Poppy and Pantelis
"If you stay at this hotel I'm jealous because i'm not there! It was the best holiday i have ever had!!!!! The hotel is gorgeous beautifully designed, lovely pool, shaded area & bar. The owners poppy and pantelis are the most amazing and lovely people i have ever met! I went with my partner the first time, liked it so much the next year i brought all my friends. I would go back year after year after year!! I haven't been able to go this year due to buying a house but if i could i would be back there in a flash. The hotel is up a dusty track away from the town and it makes it even better you have lovely views to the mountains but just a strole away is all the shops and bars. I have heard some people moaning about the walk in to the main town, clearly the people moaning are lazy! Its about 10-15 minutes in to the town. and personally i would rather be out of town and noise and have a hotel with complete privacy rather than a cramped town hotel that doesn't have the space like ampelia does. The hotel rooms are lovely two standard single beds with a lovely modern bathroom. The bathroom made the room for me, large shower and lots of space with a large modern sink etc. All balconys view towards the sea... you can sea the other peninsula from your room! I cannot fault the hotel at all and anyone that does must be fussy and clearly shouldnt have booked a greece 3* holiday! The hotel should be a 4* i have been to many greek hotels and nothing has matched up to ameplia! Its so modern and beautiful I never wanted to go to the beach! In the evening pantelis will keep the bar open as long as you want... and drink with you! He is full of stories and funny jokes. Many nights we would go in to town and have dinner then want to go back to the hotel and just sit with him, pantelis and poppy made our holiday, so welcoming and friendly. I still keep in contact with via email and im heart broken i couldnt go to hanioti this year!! I am definately going back next year and im sure in the future it will always be somewhere i would go back to. The town itself is lovely all set around a square and fountain, lots of shops restaurants and bars... The best restaurant is pallini we went almost every other nite for two weeks while experiencing all the other restaurants inbetween! The roof terrace has to be done at least once on your time there, its russian owned and has very pretty waitresses all all blond... unusual obviously from traditional greek restaurants but all very friendly and nice! The beach isn't amazing but definitely worth going to, we rented a boat and went over to the deserted island which was such a good experience although we got caught in a storm which was pretty frightening... while we were out on the boat pantelis the owner of the hotel saw the storm was worried about us so drove down to beach to see if were ok, we were walking back to the hotel when he found us SOAKED and gave us a lift back to the hotel, pantelis was such a caring person with a wicked sense of humour, he would always make you feel very safe. I would recommend renting a car of ped for a few days, we drove over the otherside of the peninsula and saw some amazing views, you could see where there had been the bad fires and many of the trees and land was burnt. there is a very traditional greek village and beautiful harbour. Nightlife in hanioti is great the square is always busy with nice cafes and bars. You have your usual party bars, lots of cocktails etc the best bar was long island they will party with you till the early hours playing whatever music you want! There are clubs, but they arent in hanioti you have to get a cab as the clubs are like warehouses in the middle of nowhere! Ahoy club has a big display of fire and flares. Anyone wanting to visit hanioti to have a relaxing stay but with good nightlife should definitely go there. The hotel is stunning i loved spending all my time around the pool and bar. Pantelise and poppy can not do enough for you! Hope anyone going has a good a time as i did! I'll definitely be going back soon!"

Lovely relaxing holiday.
"Ampelia is a lovely relaxing holiday. Rooms cleaned regularly and towels changed more often if requested. Poppy and Pandelise are a lovely couple who make you feel very welcome.(after a delayed flight and arriving late into the night ,poppy was there to greet us and show us our room.) The town is vibrant and busy later in the evening, with bars and restaurants our favorite being Pallinis which offered an extensive menu, the lamb being a favorite. The pool around Ampelia is great and friendly. With the rooms being out of the sun which makes them cool and lessens the need for air-conditioning. Trips were available, we went on a sunshine cruise where we stopped for a swim at a beautiful beach and food If you want a holiday that is relaxing then this is ideal. A big thankyou to Poppy and Pandelise for making our holiday so special."

"Just got back from the Ampelia Studios....considering we went in May, we were very lucky with the weather, most days were very sunny and about 25 degrees! When we arrived at the studios, we were greeted by the owners, Pantelis and Poppy, who were both lovely and made us feel very welcome. The bar area is gorgeous - modern and clean, with a great selection of 'chill out' music to relax to. Our room was nice, clean and had a lovely view of the green hills and the sea. Was cleaned everyday, and towels changed once during our one week stay. The only thing I would say, is the walls are very thin, and you can hear everything (not good when your neighbours are rather amorous!!) The location is fantastic, as you seem like you're in the middle of nowhere, nestled into the hillside, so peaceful, and yet it it literally a 10 minute walk into the centre and the beach. The centre is really nice, with the main centre square where the fountain is, and off here are numerous streets, all with bars, restaurants and various shops. As we went in May it was really quiet and there were a few places not yet open, but even so, plenty to choose from. I understand that it gets really busy in peak season, so am glad we went when we did. The beach was lovely too. More shingle than fine sand. Be careful in the sea, as can be shallow one minute and then suddenly drop, is also quite rocky underfoot, so would recommend wearing surf shoes or something similar to protect your feet. We found some sunbeds which were only 6 euros for 2 beds, a table and a parasol - bargain!! We went on one trip, which was organised my First Choice, to Mount Athos. This involved being collected at 7am, then about an hour on the coach to the port where we met the boat. The boat was huge and not quite what I had expected. We had to wait for ages while it got loaded up with more and more tourist...must have been at least 300! Then some guy dressed as a pirate insisted to have a photo taken with you.....all a bit cheesy for my liking. I would have preferred finding a local captain to take us, something a bit more personal.... A couple of recommendations of restaurants would be 'Stork' and also 'Pallinis'. Both had lovely food and nice atmospheres. In summary...was a fantastic hotel and resort and would like to go back again in the future Maria & John"

Away from it all
"Just returned from the Ampelia apartments Hanioti, the apartments themselves are quite modern and very spacious, although i was disappointed with our towel change, which was only once in the week we were there.I am glad i had a car for the time of our stay. After reading the reviews of recent travellers to this complex, i was surprised at the distance from the hotel to the resort centre, a few people have stated about 10 minutes from the centre, i can only think they jogged it because, although we did'nt walk it, i clocked it at half a kilometre just to the end of the lane with a further 10 minute walk to the resort centre. Now i'm not old & aged but i would'nt have fancied walking that twice a day once to the beach,& back in the evening for the night. We didn't have much dealings with the owners because we like the beach, & the nightlife at the hotel was non existent, although he did phone us at 9:15 one morning to tell us off, as the previous morning i was loading the car for the day & i left the door of the apartment open, when in turn a kitten sneaked in, so we made a fuss of it as we like cats, but we were on our way out when the cleaners arrived, clocked the cat as we carried it out, made a comment which resulted in our early morning "telling off" from our host which was quite abrupt. Anyway, back to the holiday, we liked the resort, plenty of bars, restraunts around a public square, with streets leading off. The beach was ok but if you like the beach i bit quieter go to the Molos beach bar where you pay 8 euros for 2 beds but you also get a complementary drink of your choice as well, just go to the beach leading from the resort centre but walk to your right. It is more of a tourist resort than the greek islands we have been to, but if you have a car or jump on a bus, go to the village of Athitos, where it is more typical greek than Hanioti, Polichrono is also a nice little resort, all in all not a bad holiday but beware the long lane. One more thing, the design of the apartments could have been better as you only get the sun on a select few apartments in the morning, as the sun in the afternoon & early evening is shining on the front doors of the apartments, the opposite side of the balconies.I would also like to state that i e-mailed the hotel twice leading up to the holiday to check what room we were allocated but never got a response."

Great apartments not such a great town
"Ampelia is a lovely family run complex. Cannot fault the owners one bit, spent many a night up late with them. Aprtment was cleaned daily apart from Sunday. The resort on the other hand ws not great. After visiting many islands in the past the mainland did not live up to our expectations, very dirty with lots of graffiti, would not go there again."

"Long walk uphill from bus stop, so get taxi. Great rooms, everything you would need and BBC on TV. Graeat pool but strange music played all day. Bar not very welcoming run by pony tailed jobsworth who never smiles and entertained his Greek friends most of the time. Not far from town which is very lively and you can find a bar with a large beer for a euro which i couldnt find anywhere else in Greece or Turkey. Great views from hotel."

One of the best holidays we've ever had
"Stayed 14th-24th June 2009, had a fantastic time, the Ampelia is well maintained, beautifully kept and very tasteful, the owners Poppy and Pandelise were so helpful and friendly. We did not think the walk from the town centre was that steep, not any distance at all. It was nice to be away from the centre's hustle and bustle, Ampelia is set in a really quiet area, perfect we thought. The pool was lovely, rarely busy, sometimes we thought we were in our own luxury villa as we had the area to ourselves so often. I believe if you went mid July - end August things get busier though, this is when the Greeks stay on their holidays, so bear this in mind. One tip, we stayed on the ground floor and had no views, this room seemed a lot smaller than friends rooms on the higher floor as well. Ask for a room with a view when you book. We would love to go again someday and have recommended the Ampelia to friends and family, perfect for those who want a relaxing, laid back, quiet holiday. Chris & Julie"

Nice relaxed laid back accommodation
"Great location - short walk from the town and beach (which gets very busy). Very spacious apartments with good basic facilities. Beware air con is extra (6euros a day). The staff were sometimes pleasant and helpful, but sometimes came across as slightly slimey and smug, which wasn't very becoming. Nice small pool."

Ampelia - Hotel from Heaven
"Ampelia is a small family run hotel, situated in a beautiful, quiet location with a panoramic view of the hills and beach, just a pleasant 10 minute walk from Hanioti town. The owners, Pantelis and Poppy, are 'mines of information' about the locale, Greek history and politics, as well as being multi-lingual. They made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. The apartments are well equipped, comfortable and spotless; cleaned daily (except Sunday). The pool and gardens are immaculately maintained and the service is second to none. A very enjoyable and relaxing holiday."

Lovely location, cannot fault it
"The apartments are located about ten minutes walk from the town centre. It isn't a steep walk but if you are looking for central then you may wish to find different accommodation. The studios are simple and clean, exactly what you'd expecxt for for the price. However, the view is stunning and very peaceful. The pool area is very tasteful and clean. There are plenty of sunbeds and the pool even has a bubble bench. The pool food is basic but good and the owners are very pleasant and helpful."
