14 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"I'm writing this to warn other people about this place. The owners were very rude to us, which made our holiday very unpleasant. This was the case from the moment we arrived. They seem to see tourists as their enemies. There was a lack of kindness, courtesy and welcome. In addition, they were not able to control some tourists who behaved like animals during our stay. They were drunk & disorderly, shouting, swearing, banging doors loudly and leaving used condoms in the compound. Their anti-social behaviour meant that we didn't sleep properly, as we were woken up every single night and in the early hours of the morning. The hotel owners threatened them, but this had no effect whatsoever. The hotel is based in Laganas, the party capital, which we will definitely avoid in future. There are much better places to stay on this island, both in terms of location (avoid Laganas) and this hotel. The only good points were the cleaners - helpful and polite, the free car park and the beds, which were quite comfortable. You need to be aware that you will pay for air conditioning, as well as a tax imposed by the Greek government. We hope this review helps others to avoid a bad holiday experience."

"Garden Palace is a quite small family run hotel. The staff were all friendly and so helpful - it works both ways, if you're nice to them they'll treat you just as we'll in return. It's literally a five minute walk from the beach and maybe ten minutes from the strip. There's restaurants and supermarkets within like two minutes and a bar by the pool. Every room has its own balcony, and they're all plenty big enough. It's an extra â¬25 for a safe in the room and â¬80 for air con. I personally didn't get air con in my room though and we were completely fine. You're provided with two towels each which got replaced once during our stay. The only issue I found is the cleaner wasn't very thorough so the floor got dusty which therefore stuck to your feet and got onto the bed sheets - which didn't get changed at all. Everything is very clean and looked after when you arrive though, so if you keep your room tidy you should have no problems. There is some, but limited, kitchen appliances. We had a kettle, hob, saucepan, frying pan, and enough cutlery/plates/glasses etc for us to use, which were also all clean. Even if not, the food at the restaurant at the hotel is really cheap and really good too, so limited kitchen areas in the rooms aren't a problem at all. Overall we all had a great week in Zante, I'd definitely recommend it, and definitely recommend Garden Palace too."

An all round good hotel
"I have just returned form a lovely holiday in Laganas, Zante. My partner and I stayed for 1 week at the Garden Palace Hotel. The property was situated within walking distance of the bars and restaurants on the main 'strip' but far enough away to enjoy a good nights sleep! The revellers were out f ear shot! The hotel was a family run, friendly, clean and pretty hotel. The pool was well maintained and had plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. The rooms were a good size, but be prepared to eat out as the facilities for cooking were limited. The hotel offered a well stocked bar and a god range of snacks and meals. The food was very reasonably priced and was freshly prepared. The owners made sure their guests were happy and comfortable. They were friendly, sociable and fun to have around. I was particulary impressed how they checked the grounds regulary to ensure the safety and security of the guests. We will definitely be returning next year!"

"Self catering hotel consisted of a fridge, camping stove, one fork and three spoons. The owners don't allow alcohol in the room and have a serious frown on their faces if you try taking food in (!!), acting like spoiled kids if you don't buy your food every night from the bar. No air con was available after this was our main criteria. Charged us for a fan that didn't work. Room wasn't cleaned twice in revenge for us not emptying our wallet in the hotel. This place won't be open much longer. Stay away and it could be sooner."

Best Holiday Ever
"To be fair, you get what you pay for, not the most luxurious rooms but has exactly what you need and everything is sparkling clean. I wouldn't recommend it for families but as a group of 13 girls it was perfect! If you chat and have a laugh with the owners, buy a few drinks then they love you. Pete the bar tender is such a cutie! also lots of love for yannis and akis. the food at the bar is amazing, TRY THE SALADS! And the bar is open all night so when you get back from the strip in the early hours, theres always a group talking/drinking at the bar that you can go and chat to. The pool is also spotless and cleaned everynight. It's about a 5 minute walk to the beach and the strip, the perfect distance i think. Talking to other people out there it seemed like we definitely had the best hotel with the best owners! Loved it!"

"All the reviews seem to be wrong on this website... The hotel owner is as nice as it gets and always are looking out for you. The rooms where nice enough. All this rubbish about not being able to bring drink back is rubbish, they say your not allowed to consume them around the pool which isn't bought from the bar which is fair. But we took alcohol back to our room everyday. I'm not going to lie, it does help a bit to spend a bit of money at the bar as Yannis then will always give you free pool tokens and shots etc. The food from the bar was really good and not too expensive. Air-con was 40 euros per room and a safe was 25 euros for a room. This was cheaper than places our friends stayed in. The apartments are about 10 minutes away from the main strip but there is about 20 bars on the way which you can stop off in. The bar is also open 24 hours which is helpful. And the pool was really nice and clean"

worst hoel ever!!! stay away
"We managed to get a package deal to Laganas in Zakynthos stayng at the Garden Palace Hotel. This was our first holiday of 2010 and we were very excited to get away for a short break, the holiday was going well untill we reached our hotel. The reception we received from the owners at the Garden Palace was not warm and welcoming in the slightest. It was however 6am so after waiting for a long while we were finally given our room keys, we hoped the poor welcome was a one off and after a sleep in the morning things would be alot better. We soon realised we were wrong and could only get worse. Below is a list of several problems and conditions we suffered whilst staying at Garden Palace: - Our passports were demanded to be passed over and held by the hotel during our stay without any explanation of the reasons. - One toilet roll was provided for the whole weeks stay (this is one between four people) - Towels and bedding were changed only the once during our stay - A charge of 100 Euros was requested for the use of two airconditioning units - Our friends whom were staying at another hotel were told they could only visit us at our hotel if they paid the owner every time - Petrol was stolen on two occasions from our Quad bikes which were parked outside the hotel in view of security and managment whom stayed awake all night, when we asked them in the morning if they saw anything we were faced with laughter. - One of our quad bikes was damaged outside by what looked like it had been kicked and again the owners took no notice evan though they w=are sat all night about 15 yards away from them. - I felt very intimidated by the owners who watched every move - The owners demanded us to spend money in the hotel bar and on one occassion I was smoking in the bar whilst waiting for friends to arrive and one of the owners approached me and said I had to buy a drink if I wanted to smoke as it costs money to clean ash trays! - After two days a couple of our light bulbs in the room blew, we asked for replacments but were told to buy our own. - We were told we could not purchase alcahol from the supermarket and consume it in our room, we decided to stick to this rule in order to avoid any traouble but everytime we returned from the supermaket with food shopping we were stopped and they looked to see what was in our bags. - The owner would walk around in the evening flashing his torch to see what was goin on in rooms - During our stay we needed access to our passorts in order to hire quad bikes, when we asked the managment if we could borrow them for a short while we were faced with threats if the passports were not returned. - On our last day we had to check out our room at 12pm on 19th September 2010 and our flight was on 20th September 2010 at 7.25am which is normal hotel procedure and we knew that from before , however we were told to leave our suitcases outside and they will be ready to collect when our transfer bus arrives for our flight. We left the hotel and returned later to get a hange of clothing and pack some shopping, I was shocked to see our suitcases still outside in easy acces for anyone to get to or take and in direct sunlight. I had bought and packed choclates and ffods which to my horror had meleted and also runied several items of clothing!!! Towards the end of the holiday the attitude got to me so much that I decided to stay with friends at another hotel and dreaded coming back to Garden Palace. "

OK, pool is lovely, just beef and food expensive
"The apartment was amazing, sheets changed every other day and loads of towels that we never used. Couldnt bring alcohol back to the room unless i smuggled it in, which is what i did!! Resort is rubbish, black beach sellers desperate to sell you crappy watches and sun glasses. Beggers everywhere and English P.R. trying to drag you into the clubs from 10am even tho i was with my 10 year old son. We hated the place but loved hiring a quad bike out for £13 a day. Back to the hotel and i would recommend anyone go there. It WILL get noisy tho as its a good place for the 16-25 crowd to stay. Avoid laganas beach, you will get offered free sunbeds if you buy cocktails but you will get constant beach sellers offering watches, sun glasses, massage, warm fruit salad, dogs, beggers.. the list goes on. Get a quad bike and head north, just remember to take your driving licence on holiday as they will need to see it, they dont keep it, nor take a deposit."
