"There is no doubt that this is a great hotel. The family are excellent hosts and the customer service is superb. So my comments are really the niggles that don't cause problems but may give you clear expectations
Don't bother taking books to read - the free swap library is huge and you will find any type of book you want.
If you can avoid the 'dungeon' these are rooms below ground level. They are larger than upstairs and possibly cooler, but the balconies are small and the rooms are quite dark with poor views. Ask for a room on the top floor overlooking the pool. Spiros or Maria will oblige if they can.
Accept that there is a charge for both air conditioning, and a fridge. Both will cost around 35 euros a week each.
Don't bother will the security boxes - they are in reception - if I was a burglar that is what I would go for. (And there is a charge)
Ask Spiros if you want transport to and from a Taverna, particularly in Aghios Sostis - the Taverna's provide it free.
Accept that the bathrooms are tiny and the shower has a curtain surrounding a basin.
The pool area is spotless with plenty of loungers. Snacks are reasonably priced and available all day.
If you want to pay by credit card make sure you see Maria. Spiros can't do with new technology.
Accept that there is a charge for the Internet 4 euros for 1/2 hour.
If you have any problems at all speak with the family they will help if they can, in fact Spiros will personally welcome you and will apparently be on site the whole of your holiday.
The resort - Laganas is what you would expect of an 18-30 venue, brash and blackpool. But there are good Tavernas along the beach towards Lagana. Med Version is a modern alternative restaurant which was very good, More traditional was Velas?,
Try the Taverna opposite the Hotel, it's new, and good value as you get 10% off as Castelli guests.
Walk the beach way to Aghios Sostis village round the headland. Cameo island is worth a visit 3.5 euro includes a free drink. The beach towards Ag. Sos is more like cement than sand but the swimming is wonderful. Syrtakis is a good taverna in Ag. Sos and they gave us a lift home. It is too dark to walk back along the beach and too dangerous along the road.
We had a wonderful holiday"

Castelli - Superb in all ways!
"We moved to the Castelli half way through our week away as it was superb! Spiros and Maria have a spotlessley clean, comfortable and modern hotel that has a real family atmosphere, excellent facilities, superb values, peace and quiet with all mod cons. Everything is thought of, and you will find as we did that this is an absolute haven to relax in, with the main beach and strip a 5 minute stroll away. What we liked is that the excellent pool is exclusive to guests (all other hotels and pools are not on Zante), the hotel's gates are locked from 2am to 6am when the night porter/security look after the place, there are lemon and lime trees at the front of the hotel, olive groves all around, large private balconies, good sized rooms, good sized bathrooms, fridge, etc, in your room, complimentary safety deposit in the lobby, superb continental breakfasts, and excellent pool bar that does wonderful food. This was our dream hotel, and we will defiantely be going back there - take our word for it and try this brilliant place out for yourself."

Excellent, fairly quiet, friendly, family run hotel in great location...
"Just back from two weeks at the Castelli.
Agree entirely with other reviews - this is a fabulous, very welcoming hotel. It is run by Spiros and his family and they really are committed to making your stay as pleasurable as possible. The hotel is exceptionally clean, the pool area is great (and apparently is the only exclusive pool on the island so there are always plenty of sunbeds and it never got too busy). The food at the snack bar is very good and reasonably priced and Spiros' BBQ (now on Wednesday lunchtime) is not to be missed!
The location is also great about 5 minutes walk from Laganas and about the same to the (much nicer) Aghios Sostis. Close enough to everything but far enough away to be really nice and quiet.
We actually booked this BECAUSE it shuts it doors at 2am. Because of this - as reported elsewhere - this isn't the place for "the young and lively" but if you're a couple looking for a nice, friendly hotel on Zante then look no further than this."

Castelli is cool
"Doing our research after we booked a last minute deal to Zakynthos, we found that the Castelli Hotel was exactly what we wanted.
Relaxing, quiet (not too quiet), friendly and far enough away from the strip of bars to avoid if we wanted.
The greeting was warm and friendly and we were personally shown to our spacious, ground floor (which meant there was no need to pay for air con), by owner Spiros.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is exactly what you need in a hot country, bread cheese, fruit, cake, cereal.
I wasn't far from amenitites and the beach. But the Laganas beach isn't great, so it's worth a small trek to Agios Sostis beach, just around the corner.
the pool is quiet and exclusive to guests, so there's no need to worry about random people.
As there's a 2am curfew it's not suitable for young and lively, as a few girls and boys found out on their arrival. but for couples it's great."

Hotel Castelli- Laganas Zakynthos
"Me and my Boyfriend have just come back from spending a week at the Castelli Hotel. We throughly enjoyed it!! The Hotel is very clean and the Hotel Staff were very friendly and helpful! We had a great room which was massive with air con (we didnt use it) Fridge and TV (only english channel was world news) Our room was basic and very small but had everything you need.
My only complaint on the hotel is that the maids who clean your rooms were very noisey in the mornings
I wouldnt stay in the hotel if you are going as a group of Young Adults looking to party but as a young or old couple and families it is a perfect location! About 5 minute walk to the beach and restuarants and about 10 minute walk from the shops and bars of Laganas!
If you are a young couple going dont worry too much about the 2am curfew! We were in before or just after after hitting the bars and had no problems with being locked out!
If you do head into Laganas Town at night be aware of the Young Gipsy Kids trying to sell you Glow rings and hats they are very persistant and get really annoying they literally beg you to buy stuff even if you say no. We heard reports of them pick pocketing people. They are really Young Kids but dont assume they are swet and innocent."

Good Value at a friendly family run hotel
"We spent a lovely week here in May 2007. Spiros, Maria and Anastacia made us feel more than welcome and their barbeque on the Sunday is not to be missed.
The hotel is very clean and tidy and a small hotel compared to the bigger establishments on the main strip of Laganas which means it is friendly and relaxing.
There is a fridge and air con in your room but you need to pay extra for this although it isn't expensive and well worth it.
The pool is great and so is the food from the snack bar.
The hotel is outside of the main resort of Laganas which means it is nice and quiet and the fact that the doors are locked at 2 am means youngsters don't stay here and so your sleep is not disturbed!
It is only a short walk to Laganas and so you can still enjoy the restaurnats and nightlife. We spent many an evening in the Red Poppy bar with Tas and Dimitris which is on the walk down to the beach or on your way back!
Some days were spent by the pool and other days in various places in the bay of Laganas. We even walked down to Kalamaki Beach one day which all though a long walk is well worth it, espeically if you stay there May - June as you can see the Turtles from the beach.
The week we were there there were about 6 older couples who go there that week every year to meet up with each other. They have been doing so for 10 years!
We also did the Sailing trip which is for only 12 people and would recommend this if you like boat trips but don't want 50 other people on the same trip!"

Castelli a home away from home
"Couldn't fault the Castelli hotel for it's price, service, friendliness, and facilities, not to mention the fantastic breakfast! Many thanks to Maria, Spiros and Anastasia, for the warmth of their welcome, and really making me feel 'at home'...although NOT in the centre of Laganas, it was an easy walk to the nightclubs, and so quiet at night around the hotel! Great restaurants and bars within easy reach. Loved the pool and the deck, plus the airy breakfast room. Very comfortable rooms with all the 'mod cons'( air con, fridge etc if desired).I would definately recommend this fine hotel to all my friends and family."

good for couples
"Myself and my boyfriend stayed here last year. We had the chance of staying in 3 different hotels, one argassi, one in kalamaki and one in laganas (This one) and this is where we ended up. We did not mind which we were allocated as they all looked nice in the brochure.
After eventually getting our cases, we got on the coach and headed to laganas. The hotel Castelli at first seemed out in the sticks, but once we went for a walk we soon realised it was only 5 mins walk from the centre. The pool area was lovely and the staff very friendly, However if you want a boozy holiday, please do not book here as you need to be in by 2am or the owner spiros will lock the doors, and you have to wait til 6am to be let in.
The rooms are basic, and at first we thought ours was horrible as it was lower than ground level and looked out uop at the car park. We asked to be moved and spiros ensured us it was one of the best rooms. So we stayed one night, and oh my gosh i am so glad we did not move. The room was so cool and we did not once need aircon or a fan. We had a fridge, which was handy and a television. However from talking to other guests, we were aware not every room had these.
If you are planning on having breakfast, get there in good time, as we went up a few times and as soon as time was up it was taken away. The breakfast is very basic, but ok.
All in all we had a lovely holiday! Its a nice place for older couples who want to chill out but have relatively early nights!
One last tip - on your way into the centre of laganas, before you reach the beach on the right, there is a small bar called Poppys, go in there, the staff are all lovely and the cocktails are gorgeous!
Have a lovely holiday!"

"My husband and I stayed on holiday here in May for the 2nd year and it was fantastic Spiros and his family are very friendly and helpful and David our thomson rep was very approachable and not trying to push excursions all the time like our previous reps have. We chose to go on his sunday night show which was brilliant defintely our best night of the holiday. we also went to see the turtles, we went on 2 boat trips first with a local boat which promised turtles but we didnt see any and then with davids thomson boat which we saw 5
make sure u go to the bbq!!!

Very Basic Accommodation
"Me and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks. We had requested a pool view and a double bed. We got shown to our room and it was tiny, it did have a double bed but it looked out to a main road and trees. When we asked Spiros about a pool view he said well you got a double bed.We got moved 3 days later to a room with a pool view which was a lot bigger, but still very basic. We were there in the middle of July so it was boiling hot as you can imagine and there was no air con, you can hire a fan but it just blows the hot air around it doesn't cool you down. Also as it is b&b there is no fridge in the room so if you have any water in the room it goes warm very very quickly.
Everyone says that Spiros the owner is really nice, but he wasn't very nice to us for some reason, don't know why, we were in before 2am which he asked us to be, we bought drinks from the bar and didnt just drink our own bottles of wine like what some people did.On the last day I mentioned I was a travel agent and he couldn't have been nicer to me, he told me to sell his hotel. I just wish I had told him at the beginning of the holiday!!
All in all it was an ok holiday. The main strip is about a 5 minute stroll along the beach with plenty bars and restaraunts. But watch out they try and pull you into every single bar, restaraunt and club you walk past which gets very annoying. And to be honest the clubs weren't really up to much!
If you do decide to stay at this hotel try not to in peak season as there is no air con and you will get no sleep at all, apart from that hope you have a great holiday!"

The Castelli Hotel in Laganas is perfect...
"The Castelli Hotel in Laganas is perfectly located as it is in a quiet location just up from the sea front with all the lovely restaurants and bars and only a short stroll to the busy main strip.
The pool at the Castelli is one of the nicest I've ever seen in a European hotel. There are plenty of loungers - no need to get up early.
Rooms are spotless. the only downside is that aircon, fridge hire and sunbed mattress have to be paid for - this can add up over your stay!
I would say that 50% of the guests have been there before and go back year after year.
Even so the owners go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need and can answer and help you with any questions.
Doors close at 2.00 am so it is not suitable for party animals which is good as there are no groups. A perfect hotel for couples of any age."

The Castelli Hotel was certainly not to...
"The Castelli Hotel was certainly not to my liking, you do get welcomed in with orange juice which gave it a nice touch but after the shoddy introduction it went downhill from there. In Spiris's words :-"it is the best hotel in the island"....NOT!!!
The first day they didn't bother with you until you asked for a safety deposit box or a fridge which you had to pay 40euros for each! Every night the crickets started to chirp and even if the doors were closed it still rang through your ears ,and donât get me started on the breakfast it could not have been worse.
An egg cup full of cornflakes and some bread. For the price I paid I should have been waited on hand and foot. The food was good, excellent pizza bar man cheery, daughter Maria very polite.
If you wanted to watch TV there was a little tiny bit at the corner where you can watch the news the god channel orAPC-H45-1. I would not recommend a second trip.
