What a nightmare
"My friends and I stayed at the hotel from 21/06/2010 for one week. The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff were very polite and friendly.
However, a big problem occured on the Thursday 24th June at 02.30 hrs that morning.
A generator caught fire and the hotel reception and many rooms and corridors were filled with smoke, but the smoke alarms were not working and did not sound any alarms and most important none of the fire alarms worked either.
People were banging on doors to alert residents who assembled in the front car park. no assembly point was available and the staff all were in a panic because they did not know what to do. Even the Opilia reps had not got a clue what to do. We were eventually moved from the car park out into the local street because of the risk of an explosion. Fire crews attended but no fire official gave the all clear to go back in and none of the reps took any responsibility of making this happen, nor did the local police who were more concerned with residents blocking the street.
Eventually resident filtered back to there rooms at 06.30 hrs 4 hours later.
The next day some workers were called in to check the wiring of the alarms and smoke detecors only to find these were not connected.
It is clear the safety of residents is a low priority with the hotel owners and the tour operators Olimpia.
In conclusion I would not trust this hotel or any of the other Olimpia hotels in Zante or other Greek and Cyprus resorts ever again unless they can reassure me that all have a approved safety certification from british authourities."

"You could ask at reception for any room key and they would give it to you without question - very unsafe! The air conditioning was an extra charge and it didn't even work properly and the shower was always freezing and you couldn't use it without soaking the whole bathroom!
The way they dealt with the fire was awful and I wasnt happy that they held on to our passports for the duration of the holiday and when we asked for them back they had been "misplaced."
The pool and pool bar were great and it was a perfect location but overall I would not recommend it.

"I went expecting it to be amazing after reading reviews. However, on arrival we were faced with a tiny, cramped room with bunk beds, our cooker was unsafe and caused electric shocks when i touched it. The electricity often went out, the shower was constantly cold and broke down. The security guard was violent and abusive. We had to pay for a safe, air con and a fridge. The air con also broke down. It was unsafe and unsecure as you simply had to ask at reception to get into a room and were allowed without questioning. My biggest concern is that one night i was ill and stayed in while all my mates went out and was woken up at 4am by them to discover that there was a fire in the hotel. No fire alarms or even smoke alarms had went off, despite me gagging on my way out, i was not contacted by anybody and if my friends had not found out that the hotel was on fire then i am positive that nobody from the hotel would have made an effort to come and get me or others in the hotel. I was then refused my passport which they had 'misplaced'. I wouldnt reccommend it to anybody. "

OK if you are young and noisy!!
"We stayed here 2 weeks froM May 20th until June 3rd 2010.
The Hotel was not our first choice -we were sent there as our hotel was still being renovated. We found hotel clean - staff were friendly but it was a good way to walk to the beach. Central if you wanted to use the main strip and it's nightlife. Found the pool was very rowdy with young people and the music was loud and played constantly from 9am until 7.30pm without a break. For a 4 star hotel I would have expected it to have TV channel you could listen to in English -otherwise it was pointless it being in the room. Air conditioning was very expensive 7 Euro per day!!! Heard staff telling people they didn't allow noisy young people there (with being a 4 star) but this was not the case when we were there and that was very early at the start of the season. Avoid it if you are over 25 years and like a rest on your holidays!!!"

"Went to this hotel last year (2009) and honestly had a fantastic holiday. There was a large group of us (about 15) spread out across the hotel and we all had basic, but very clean rooms which had everything you needed. I read lots of bad reviews and was slightly put off before going but i came back with no complaints. I would deffinetly recommend the hotel for young groups or young couples because there was one or two families with small children who were probobly bothered as it can get a bit noisy at night. The maids, bar men and other staff were all really friendly and went out there way to help us. The only thing i could say was the shower sometimes wouldnt work properly but they always sent people us stright away to fix it! Shared a room with two girls and we all had plenty of space for everything. The hotel is only a short walk away from the main strip which is amazing! There is also a great choice of restaurants near by including an Indians which we went to about 3/4 times! If your going make sure you go to Coctails and dreams, medusa and Cherry bay. We went in June and the drink was really cheap with lots of good deals so we didn't spend that much money and still had a great time! Can't wait to go back another year!!!!! Dont listen to bad reviews

LOOK NO FURTHER YOU MUST GO HERE
"Me and my group of friends went to hotel alexander from the 11 to the 19 of july in the summer and im pretty sure we havent stopped talking about it since. Our time here was spent swimming or messing around diving in the the pools or meeting great new people around the pool some of which we still talk to. The bar is great along with all the bar stuff who are top lads! Upon arriving at alexander we were greater with home made wine by kostas (aparantly 75%) and oh my god this sums up this place, this is starting as you mean to go on in its absolute definition. If you are on an 18-30 holidays and just looking for a good time then this has to be your hotel. We went in a group of 10 but in total of all our friends out there, there was about 50 all staying in different places, and i will completely vouch for this beeing the best hotel but a mile and a half. The owners, the bar staff and even the security gaurd (also even the pool cleaner!!) all are well up for a laugh and a drink. Also dont be quiet about staying here got us a lot of free drinks in restaurants. I cannot explain how amazing our holiday was but we owe a lot of it to this hotel, rooms are a good size comfortable, basic but didnt really matter to us, it was everything we wanted. Just one last point, one of our friends had a birthday while we were out there and the owner kostas (the owner) is such a nice guy he got him a (very alcoholic) cake (FREE) and a some free ouzo. If i ever go back i wouldnt ever consider staying anywhere else, Hotel Alexander sets the bar all others must try to achieve. Also go to robin hood just down the road if you want a good restaurant. Oh also it is right next to the strip/the beach/ a supermarket/ the airport. It is damn near perfect. They made our life as easy as possible with zero stress, even with a group as loud as us they had no problems. This is the key to experiencing the "culture" of zante."

best week of my life!
"Me and three of my closest friends went to the Alexander early august last year and i have never had so much fun! All the hotal staff were so so friendly, especially the barmen as they gave us so many free shots and cocktails! i think i only paid for about 5 drinks at the bar there the whole holiday.. they even let us go behind the bar and pour our own shots out! it pays off if you flirt a bit! The pool is gorgeous with plenty of sun loungers to sunbathe on, but its only a 10 minute walk to the beach if you fancy a dip in the sea. Also, i must say we were quite impressed with the rooms and the cute little balcony. there are computers which you can use in the day for a euro per 15 minutes which was quite nice. If you get air con, dont keep it on all the time because it made me and my mates all so so ill. we could barely talk by the end of the holiday!
also, go to cocktails and dreams. its amazing. and rescue!(the main clubbing strip is only a 10 minute walk away) and id reccomend hiring out a pedalo for an hour or so one day.. great fun! the atmosphere at the hotel is so chilled and laid back in the day time, but it completely transforms at night with everyone getting ready and excited to go out. we all had such an amazing time! perfect for people who are going for the night life. ill be going back there again in the near future!"

MOST INCREDIBLE WEEK EVER
"Seriously, no exagerration saying this was the most incredible week ever. Alexander the Great was amazing. The bar staff Miro, Nestle and Nestle's bro were incredible, always letting us behind the bar, on top of the bar, serving people and getting free shots! Bedrooms were average, whatever you do DO NOT GET AIRCON. Seriously, it made us all ill, none of us could speak. We had four people to a room, pushing three singles together and it worked out fine. Pool was lovely, pool bar food really slow but still good quality. Easy use computers which was handy and the shop sold most things needed for pre drinking in rooms. Good location, 5 minute walk from beach. 10 minute walk from main strip. Deinitely hit BOCCA for the best food in the world, and girls, just flirt like hell and you will get soo many free shots! I would definitely recommend this hotel. Friendly, welcoming and pure FUN. Deinitely go :))"

"When we arrived we were shattered because we had travelled overnight, the reception staff werent friendly at all, we had added an extra person on abut 2 hours before we left and they were arguing we hadnt booked the extra person although we had a receipt. And they took our passports off us. The reception staff dont speak very good english at all. The rooms are basic, very old fashioned, the beds are the most uncomfortable things ever. The pillows are bricks. One night we were sleeping and were awoken by people walkin in our room with suitcases, the hotel had booked someone else in our room too and given them a card for it. Then they had deactivated our card because when we tried to get back in our room it didnt work. When we asked reception they went oh yes that was our fault, and reactivated our card, not even a sorry. After 2 days they finally allowed us our passports back after leaving them on show were anybody could have taken them. Then we had payed to stay 8 nights as our flight was not til 6am friday morning, but thursday at 12pm they told us we had to get out our rooms. our tickets said 8 nights and it took us 4 hours to sort this out, and it only got sorted out because the thomas cook rep turned up, it wouldnt have got sorted otherwise, so our last day was wasted trying to sort out what we had payed for. they wanted us to pay the money up front for the late check out and claim it back. Also, people have been saying this hotel is just for young people, our party were all young, aged 19-20 and we didnt enjoy this. we found it to be full of chavs, and if you have any class about you, dont go here!
A few people we spoke to got spiked and they swore it happened in the hotel bar. We wouldnt know as we didnt drink here.
On a good note the pool was very nice, however we unfortunately witnessed a guy diving in and cracking his head open on the pool floor, and the next day his blood was still all around the pool area, it hadnt been cleaned!
Best restaurant by a mile is Bocca bbq! Found the food in other restaurants to be quite disgusting.
Being a young group of girls, we never felt safe walking back from a night out, the streets arent well lit and there are sleazy men everywhere. I dont like the way every restaurant/bar tries to drag you in, i dreaded walking along the streets! The shops are crap and over priced, the tattooists were a rip off. the beach wasnt nice, however we went on a boat trip to the shipwreck, would definately recommend!
All in all it wasnt the worst holiday ever, but it definately wasnt the best, i doubt ill be going back."

Fun, Livey Place
"I stopped in these apartments for 2 weeks in july. i had a great time although our apartment had afew problems, such as leaking air con and fridge. when reception was told they didnt really understand that much what we were saying but they eventually got fixed. Pool is great and lively and food is fantastic from the pool bar, the drinks are aswell. About a 20min walk from the main strip, flat shoes reccommended for girls and women. i always wear heels and even i ended up wearing flat shoes as its a rather bumpy walk lol. Strip is great (reccommend fishbowl!!!! love it, rescue, zeros and if you like abit of cheesy music then cherry bay which is on the beach(good for a night time dip lol). beach is fantastic. You have to go to CUBANEROS on the beach. its the place to be for great music and a good laugh with the workers (aww i miss it when im writing this). this hotel is for young, lively people, not for families or people over 25, and certainly not for people looking for a relaxing or romantic kind of holiday... party animals only lol x"
